| Paul & Philippa from Suffolk travelled to Mellieha in 1/2010 |
Paul & Philippa rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| Paul & Philippa Posted this report and said: Mellieha is very quiet and much prettier than other areas of Malta. It is a steep walk down to the bay - but you can always walk down and get a very cheap bus back up the hill.
There are some stunning views from all around Mellieha - lots of walks too.
This is not the place to go for nightlife as there are few bars and only a couple of hotels - but if all you want is a quiet drink and stunning views then it is a great place. |

| Peter from Chorley travelled to Mellieha in 11/2009 |
Peter rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| Peter Posted this report and said: Mellieha is unusual in that it consists of a seaside promenade and beach, with the town centre separated by about half a mile up a hill. When I visited, in November 2009, the seaside/promenade area was practically deserted and most facilities closed, but this was OK as we are not beach people.
The “upper” town is one main street with side streets running off. It has some good shops, supermarkets and restaurants. Most of the facilities in this area were open when we visited.
The church is well worth a visit and looks lovely when lit at night. The Band Club right next to the church on the square is very welcoming and quite a sight inside – don’t miss the staircase!
The Commando Bar near the police station does a great steak.
If you only visit one restaurant, go to Guiseppe’s, which is up the main street in the “upper” town, just up from the Solana Hotel. You will need to book during the season - and at weekends even out of season. The atmosphere is very welcoming, the service immaculate and the food out of this world.
The best thing about Mellieha and Malta in general are the people. They are by far the most friendly and courteous I have ever encountered. They make you welcome at every opportunity and they love British people.

Leelaka rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| Leelaka Posted this report and said: Beach was great. However, this is a very quiet resort at night and we ran out of options after a 2 week stay. Snorkelling is best, as is a trip to Valetta. Much of Malta looks half-finished. It seems that the livelier resorts do not have beaches and those with beaches are generally quieter. I enjoyed Malta as a one-off, but I do not think that I would like to go back any time soon (not as a family resort) |

| M Vickers from Northampton travelled to Mellieha in 2/2009 |
M Vickers rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| M Vickers Posted this report and said: The Riu Seabank is in the beach resort area of the village, the main part of the village is three quarters of a mile uphill. Resort entertainment during our stay was none other than the patching of some of the roads, where EU standards for health and safety seem to have gone out of the window. Resort cleanliness is typically Maltese and lacking. Beach standard is normally good but stormy weather meant seaweed and litter blowing about although put into piles for collection later. This beach would be totally different during summer and probably a great beach then. |

| Brian Newbould from Harrogate travelled to Mellieha in 10/2008 |
Brian Newbould rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| Brian Newbould Posted this report and said: Mellieha is a small one street town somewhat out on a limb at the far N.W. end of Malta. (Apprx 50mins transfer time on a good day from the airport at Luqa).
Its set on a steep hill with a noisy narrow main street running through its centre. This broadens out at the bottom of the town before its final 1km+ stretch winding further downhill to the beach. At this end it also has a large spectacular church offering a stunning vista over the bay and beyond to Comino and Gozo. The summer sunsets are spectacular!
The street is typically Maltese in being a little grubby around the edges, not particularly attractive apart from the lower end around the church but apart from the traffic noise its essentially ok.
Evening entertainment is virtually non-existent apart from a few bars and restaurants. The usual smattering of shops occupy its length and you can purchase just about anything you need. There are jewelers, car hire places, mini- markets, a pharmacy, a fruit & veg shop et al and a little further on over the very top a petrol station and a few more misc. shops too.
As said the beach, the best in Malta is a further 1km+? away down the hill. It is essentially clean, wide and sandy with shallow waters and like the rest of Malta & Gozo of a brilliantly clear deep blue/turquoise colour. Two sunbeds and a parasol can be hired here for 10 euros a day.
Be warned there are literally only a couple shops/cafes on/next to the beach. If you want provisions/drinks/sandwiches etc there is an excellent little mini-market backing the beach. Its part of a Danish (Danske Folke Ferie) holiday village. This can be reached by car turning off at the roundabout or on foot via a tunnel under the road leading directly from the beach itself.
Back to the towns main street; running parallel on both sides are areas of residential dwellings the majority being of typical square Maltese 'style' complete with water tanks/aerials/aircon units placed on their flat roofs.
Within about 1km of the beach these give way to cliffs /green areas and newer buildings that are easier on the eye. |

Carl & Gemma rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| Carl & Gemma Posted this report and said: The resort was a nice clean place to be,and entertainment wise is not really a nightclub mecca as it only has bars and resturants,so if your looking for a BOOM BOOM nightclub style holiday try ST Julians Bay or Paceville. But the bars and resturants in the village all offer a good food choice and a good service. The beach in Mellieha is top notch with a sunbed and brolly hire 2 sunbeds and a brolly costing 10 euros for a whole day, also a host of watersports are on offer ranging from the good old bannana boat to the more extreme paragliding. Also the sandy beach and shore is great for children and familys as it stays shallow for quite some distance out,the beach is also kept tidy as it is cleaned at the end of each day.Mellieha is a great resort to stay in and visit and we will deffinately be coming back again in the near future!. |

Mr & Mrs Davies rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| Mr & Mrs Davies Posted this report and said: The resort is clean and generally tidy, the hotel is on a main road,(sea view side) with a crossing to the beach, all bus stops are just outside the hotel. The resort is fairly quiet very few shops in the bay itself, you would need to go to Mellieha village for shops and resturants. The village is up a steep road and is worth getting the bus (bus No's from recep)a supermarket is about 100mts left out of the hotel at the Mellieha Bay complex and is open up to 7pm. The bus to the Gozo ferry is on the same side as the hotel, ferry is 4.90 euros return, when you land the No 25 bus will be waiting that goes to the Capital Victoria. The buses are timed from the Victoria Terminus to facilitate your return ferry (every half hour.) Boat trips to Comino and Gozo are available from Tunney Net Jetty, to right of hotel if you want to save money and go independently. |

Make sure you catch a 46 on the way back up at 58cents or you will be charged 1euro 16 on others but the restaraunts all provied excellant menus, although based mostly on Pasta meals & Pizza(Italian). The fish menu's were wonderful. The beach area looked clean and Popeye village is a must to see, which is about 1 hours walk and you do see the proper Malta on that walk. They use windmills to pump up the water and keep goldfish in the tanks. |

Kizzyfur rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| Kizzyfur Posted this report and said: Mellieha is a quiet pleasant town, suitable for people looking for a relaxing holiday. Nice choice of restaurants, sandy beach, quaint shops. However it is very hilly, although there are cheap local buses that operate every 10 mins throughout the town to various locations, inlcuding the beach. It also lacks entertainment on a night.
Not suitable for young people or families looking for a lively or entertainment filled town - try Buggibba or St Julians instead. Also not really suitable for people with disabilities due to its hilly nature. |

| M Williams from Blackburn travelled to Mellieha in 8/2007 |
M Williams rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| M Williams Posted this report and said: The beach at Mellieha bay was packed, especially at weekends, when the locals came to visit, but it was peak season & to be expected.
If you like, or wish to try SCUBA diving, Aquaventure diving have an office at this hotel, but are based at the other side of the bay. Each day they will pick you up & drop you off & take you on some great dives, the set-up is good & they are well organized.
The air temperature was 32c during the day, & the water was 26c...great for diving.
Mellieha bay is not lively at night, so if its night life you are after, try somewhere else.
Malta has some very historic sites & is well worth a visit.

liam Macgarret rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| liam Macgarret Posted this report and said: Melieha is a busy, attractive town in a very pleasant area of Malta. The main street on which the hotels, restaurants and shops stand, can be very busy and noisy at times, but this didn’t spoil our stay there.
There are plenty of places to eat and shop in Melieha Village with a fairly wide range of restaurants and different food styles available. There are several hotels and other accommodations in Melieha which also offer restaurant, bar and bistro facilities. There are also acouple of pubs and a car-hire firm in the village.
The very pleasant Melieha Bay and beach is about half a mile from the village and can be reached easily, and at small cost, by means of the frequent, local bus service. Sunbeds and parasols can be hired on the beach and there are several places to eat.
Nightlife is low-key and is centered around the pubs, bars and restaurants near the beach and in Melieha Village. |

| Leigh family from Manchester travelled to Mellieha in 8/2007 |
Leigh family rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| Leigh family Posted this report and said: The beach was disappointing as it was so crowded and the number of boats anchored in the sea made it feel like you were swimming in a port not at a beach. We only went on Mellieha beach once, we explored the other good beaches on the island and found Golden Bay much more to our liking and a very short drive once we had found the short cut through Manikata.
We were self catering and felt there was little choice in the Bay for eating out as none of us are particularly fish eaters and don't care for rabbit either! As there was only one restaurant that suited all 4 of us in Mellieha Bay we alternated each night with trips out to different resorts to find somewhere else to eat. The town of Mellieha itself had a few eating places but a bit too far to walk up the hill for the kids. The chinese there was very nice.
Car hire definitely recommended but Mellieha was a good base for seeing many parts of the island from. |

All in all mellieha is a great resort for those who want a quiet and relaxing holiday with a bit of hilly excersise. |

Our hotel was in the village near to the church. Most bars and restaurnts open nearby. Steep hill up from the beach but a good bus service.
Arches Restaurant reportedly the best in Malta and we were very pleased with the service and food.
I would recommend this resort for all age groups, families and couples alike. |

We visited the cafe on the tunny net harbour but the food was both dire and expensive and the service was very poor-very rude staff.
The Riviera blue is on its own at the start of the big hill but they are very nice people-a visit up the hill is a must must take a bus its very steep.
It was nice to see how Maltese people live-its hardly commercialised at all so I'll go back to Malta but probably not this resort. |

| Nicola Posted this report and said: Mellieha village is up a very steep hill...we were told it would take us 15 minutes to walk up it....we took the bus as it was very hot....took us 30 minutes to walk down it!!!!
Once in the village there are just a few bars and restaurants, nothing to write home about.
Mellieha Beach - when we first saw the beach we were very dissapointed, it was dirty with rubbish floating in the water and ciggarette butts everywhere, however this was mid afternoon on a Maltese public holiday. When we returned the following day the beach was clean...but the butts remained..although not a lot you can do about that I suppose, can't have a 'no smoking' beach!!
Places to hire sunbeds and brollies - 4 beds and two brollies was 7.50 LM...about £13, also places to get a sandwich and ice creams and drinks etc on beach. It was particularly hot when we were there, even the locals were suffering so you had to wear shoes as sand was to hot to walk on. Beach gets very busy, family report that they saw more sea life swimming off the rocky coastline in Bugibba than they did swimming on the sandy beach....saying that he beach is good for younger children as it is very shallow.
Plenty of bars and restaurants on the road from the luna down to the beach although pavement was non existent in some places so you had to walk in the road. W e did not use the bars but kids had ice creams in the Tunny Net which they said were very good. |

| Keith and Julie Wilson Posted this report and said: Mellieha is a beautiful old village with some fascinating areas to walk around. Great value restaurants abound, our favourite was l'Escargot at the top of the hill. Our favourite spot however, was the Sea View Cafe (No I'm not kidding!) on the seaward side of the church, where you can get a beer, a bottle of wine and food whilst enjoying one of the best views in the Med, especially at night. The bay itself is safe to bathe, the water is clean but I would imagine can get v.crowded in summer. My strongest advice to any visitor would be to buy season tickets on the buses (6Lm in Oct 2005) and a map listing bus routes for the cheapest travel around. Beware however that bus timetables only list times of departure from the route terminii, so make a note of when they pass your stop for future reference! |

The best restaurants we found were the punta prema just a short walk from the apartment. There are a lot of restaurants in mellieha village a short bus trip up a very big hill.
Would recommend getting the bus passes a good way to see the island they vary in price depending on how many days you would like.
Best value to comino was with the English rose cruises lm3.75 per adult half price under 12 they were just as good as the captin morgan and a fraction of the price.
When going to gozo barter a price deal with the taxi driver for a tour we managed a 5 hour tour of the islands main sights for lm25. |

Jeff rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| Jeff Posted this report and said: Since Mellieha Bay is one of the few resorts on the island with anything like a substantial beach it inevitably gets rather crowded in high season. Especially since the sea is so clear and so shallow for a long way out that swimming for all ages is very safe. Water Sports participants (Jet Skis, Parakiting, Water Skiing, Surf Boards, etc) are all kept well away from the swimming area.
Other than that this is a very enjoyable place to spend a week's or fortnight's holiday. |

Crawford Butler rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| Crawford Butler Posted this report and said: Litter seems to be the order of the day both in the streets and in the sea.Pavements are diabolical and the roads must have been used by tanks for training exercises.
There is very little to do in Mellieha in the evenings so we took the bus to Bugibba mostly.
The beach varied day to day.
Some days it was clean, others litter strewn including used toilet paper. |

In Mellieha bay there a lots of resturants we ate mostly at a resturant called..JUST FOR YOU..1st class meals and very frienly can not fault it at all.
The beach is very clean and water very clear plenty sunbeds and shades for a small fee, sea ideal for children as very shallow.
Several places to buy drinks,food,fruit.
You can hire boats, canoes, jet ski, ect from the Tunny Net just as you approach the bay.
Also boat trips to the Blue Lagoon, Harbour cruies, From The ENGLISH ROSE, just behind the Tunny Net from the jetty.
Staff from the ENGLISH ROSE are great and very friendly.
I will definatly return to Malta. |

I would recommend both of these hotels. |

| Rachael Posted this report and said: If you want a quiet holiday, Mellieha is perfect, but if you are looking for a livlier resort, I would recommend Bugibba or St Pauls.
Too be honest, as we were on honeymoon, we didn't see an awful lot of the place, we didn't go to the beach, but I know other people said it was lovely.
The main square is lovely, a few shops and bars and the church. All the locals are friendly and I would recommend a drink in the Stop Inn bar, Johnny the owner is extremely friendly as are all of his family. |

Plenty of cheap buses to all parts of the island. You must visit Mosta to see the fantastic dome even if you're not into churches.
Valetta too has some good shops for the shopaholics. also, you must try 'Maltese bread', it's gorgeous. |

Lorna Holley rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| Lorna Holley Posted this report and said: Location of the hotel was excellent as long as you don't mind being away from shops and bars.
The beach was nice with shallow water for a long way. Storm stirred up the seaweed but this was cleared away. Sun beds and additional matress for the beds available for local charge. Very grumpy man walking up and down the beach selling nougat and nuts from his basket. He could be very rude if you looked and then didn't buy anything. |

Deborah Clayton rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| Deborah Clayton Posted this report and said: The village is situated on a large hill with usual gift shops and small supermarkets etc either side. There are two banks with ATMs. The beach got very crowded especially at weekends as probably the only sandy beach in Malta. The sunbeds cost 3.50 Lira in the week but double that at the weekend. It is extremely safe for children and you can venture out for metres and metres before without going out of your depth. |

| J. Martyn Posted this report and said: The resort was generally quiet although we did have a lot of noise over the weekend from boats in the harbour and parties from the other side of the bay- this went on until about 1am. Because the hotel had a private beach we stayed on this when not travelling further afield- this was the best thing about the hotel. Don't bother to visit the popeye village- its very shabby and a waste of money. |

The lido at the hotel was excellent and residents had free use of the sunbeds and mattresses.
Plenty of watersports would recommend the lido booking office for boats trips etc, a lot cheaper than travel company’s equivalent.
Comino boat trip was great but glad we only had 2 hours as there are only so many people you can fit onto a small lido and not much shade, however most of the time was spent in the sea. |

Christie rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| Christie Posted this report and said: Mellieha is the most beautiful area I have stayed in on Malta, particularly because of its lovely beach. You have to walk out in the sea quite a way for the water to reach your chest, it is perfect for swimmers of every ability.
The sand is fine and clean too. There are toilets and a spotlessly clean sandwich takeaway, there was also a fruit barrow selling sliced melon etc. You can stay on the beach all day and not starve.
There are plenty of restaurants and bistros all eager to serve you dinner in the evening, you can enter most of the hotels too for a meal.
We didn't find any entertainment, but then we weren't looking for any!
I don't think we had a bad meal anywhere in this town.
Although the main village and shops are up on the top of the hill (you can take the bus up) they are well worth a visit. Also the resort is on the main bus route to the ferry point to Gozo, about 10 minutes away. And also to Valletta, calling at all towns and villages on the way.
I highly reccomend it and we have returned and will do so again. |

| Mike Craven Posted this report and said: Mellieha is in the North of the island and is perhaps a little quiet for the holidaymakers who are looking for "beer and skittles".
Mellieha Bay is one of the only safe sandy beaches on the island, and we found the beach bars, etc. offered good food and good facilities at reasonable prices, not the rip-offs that you get in other Mediteranean countries or indeed our own.
Lots of history to the Country, but the landscape is a little brown!!!

Joe Andrews rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| Joe Andrews Posted this report and said: Melliha Bay was very picturesque. The beach was dirty though and overcrowded. Melliha is very much for the locals which i liked. They would line the coast at night for BBQS with the whole family. Maltese people are extremly friendly and curteous.
The excursions offered by the rep are a waste of time and money."the best of Malta" was a horrible day of a suffocating bus, deplorable dinner in the worst hotel in the world. The fernades boat trip reminded me of a refugee ship you would see on the news. we were cramped in so tight there was no lying in the sun, even though they provided mats to do so.
There were 2 great points to the trip.
1. Zefirinos restaurant in Melliha is well worth the trip. Food and Hospitality were 1st class every time.
2. Sicilly trip was a long day but really enjoyable. Mt Etna was awesome and Toarmina was beautiful.
The trips in Malta needs to realise we do not want to be shipped to gift shops and glass blowing factories in a 40C heat.
If you do go to Malta, Stay at the Meriden Hotel in Valetta - we will be the next time. Central location for anywhere on the Island. 40cent only on the bus for all over. Valletta is well worth the days visit as well. |

Fred rated Mellieha as follows:| Cleanliness | | | Resort Entertainment | | | Beach
| Fred Posted this report and said: We walked around the resort quite a lot and found the bay area very pleasant. Entertainment is either in the hotel (nightly) or quiet bars the other side of the bay. There are also bars and cafes up in the town (2.5 km away). The beach is nice and sandy with safe bathing. There are a number of good walks e.g. Popeye Village, Marfa Ridge, Ramla Bay etc. |
