It is a fairly low key resort, nice and quiet which suites us but if you want lots of night life Skiathos Town is only about 7 kilometres away and there is a regular bus service(about every 20 minutes) plus taxis are plentiful and quite reasonable. It is best to flag a taxi down because if you pre book one there is a 2 Euro booking fee and they are plentiful enough in fact if you are waiting at the bus stop a taxi will invariably pull up and offer a ride to save you waiting.

Skiathos is only a bus ride away from our hotel and the buses came at regular half hour intervals. If the buses were full (which was often the case) then taxis pull up and offer to take four of you to the town for 8 euros total. We did take advantage of this on a couple of occasions but as a rule, the buses were fine. You can either get off at bus stop 4 or go straight to the end of the line (the port). Either of these stops are fine as it is quite a nice short walk to get to the harbour. There are many bars and restaurants. The prices are average and not particulalry cheap but the standard is very high. Skiathos is a very pretty place to visit. It is very clean and the walk around the harbours (old and new) is most pleasant. There are some steps which during the day are just that-steps- but in the evening, big cushions appear and turn the steps into most comfortable sitting places. We ate at many places but the most memorable one (not only for the amount of steps to get to it) was the Windmill. What a view! An oxygen cylinder would be most welcome when you reach it but a beer almost does the same job!
As a resort, Skiathos has lots to offer for all ages. The beaches are fabulous and very clean. I can certainly recommend it for the more able bodied. I am not sure how people with walking difficulties would go on as there are many steps, but I think it is a beautiful resort and would certainly go there again.

Ayia Paraskevi is ideal location as it is in between Skiathos Town and Koukounaries. Beach is lovely - such clean water and sandy beach. If you snorkel you can see quite a few fish but nothing fantastic.

There is a shop just across and down the road (opposite Kohili bar) which changes travellers cheques and GBP for only a fee of 2%.

Koukounaries is lovely - not the beach if you are looking for a quiet day but at the same time I have been to rowdier beaches! Water is lovely and clean (agean blue) and the sand so soft!

I highly recommend doing a boat trip round the island - we went on one called Efthia. It stops at Lalaria (the only stone beach on the island) and a few others. Gives you a good idea of the island's beaches to explore further.

Restuarants which i can highly recommend is a family run fish tavern on a mountain over looking the sea in Acropolis. It's name is Amfiliki. We had the lobster and spagetti and then went back again for the craw fish and spagetti - so tasty!! (rather pricy though - but no more than one would pay back in England). Another nice one was called Scuna which was overlooking the port in Skiathos town. (you are literally sitting over the water!) We had a fish platter which was very nice.

I will definately be going back to this island!

P.S. the landing wasn't scary at all!! (it's over exagerated)

Platanias has a lovely sandy beach, with areas to sunbeds but also sections for people to use their own beds etc. Watersports are available and refreshments at one end of the beach. Terapins are can also be seen in a pool at the back in the bamboo. Plenty of small fish to be seen in the sea which is extrenely clear. This beach is only a short walk from the Magic Hotel

Quiet and laidback with easy access to the main town and the other beaches. Public transport was a definite experience. The beach at Aghia Paraskevi is reached by a track which runs past the small church and bus stop, the track itself runs for about 50m from the main road and although its not maintained and may at first glance look uninviting, the beach at the end is an absolute gem with fine white sand which safely and gradually shelves into a crystal clear waters. Expect to be able to walk out into the Agean for quite away whilst watching the fish swim around your feet. The usual watersports can also be found here.Nightlife is low key based mainly around the tavernas. I heartily recommend Avili - set back from the mainroad but its an unpushy family run taverna with great food.

Skiathos is an island that hasn't been ruined yet by mass holiday makers- not many people have even heard of the place let alone been there- so the beaches are fantastic ( all 66 of them)!! its so friendly- the greeks are a fantastic set of people. My opinion is give it 5-10 years and it will developed on so much it will become as tedious as spain and places like that so go and see this wonderfull island now- i went in the height of the season and it wasn't a case of go and reserved beds on beaches, theres so many of them none of them are completely overcrowded. its also a place that caters for all ages, quietly relaxing with a town that offers everything- even clubs! it all seems a million miles away! i am waiting for a bad commemt on skiathos and can bet anything no-one ever says a bad word about the marialena apartments

The resort itself is very clean and the beach is one of the loveliest. The only real entertainment around the island is in Skiathos Town.
