| said: My partner and I recently stayed at the Solferias. We had a room on the ground floor and the room itself was large, with two double beds and a balcony overlooking the pool area. The trouble was however that there was such a terrible smell in the room that we asked to be moved to a different room. The staff were happy to oblige and we were move to another room on the ground floor. The room was just as big as the previous one, but unfortunately, almost as smelly. We had to buy air freshener and were constantly burning incense sticks to ease the smell. It did help a bit but that awful smell was the first thing that hit you when you first opened the door. I reckon that the smell was coming from the carpet which, same as the rest of the room decor, was outdated and long overdue to be replaced. As for the dark ceilings, I'll never understand the reason behind that.
The hotel is on top of a long steep hill and bearing this in mind, the courtesy bus service was pretty diabolical. It only ran three times a day with the last service being at 5:30 pm. The hotel didn't have a restaurant on site and after 5:30, the courtesy bus would only take you to the hotel's restaurant in the town centre, providing you have a table booked. We compared the prices with other restaurants on the resort and found that the hotel's restaurant was overpriced and it was cheaper to get a taxi and eat in one of the many restaurants in the resort. The Oasis is highly recommended.
We'll be back to Portugal as we loved the Algarve but we'll not be back to the Selferias.

| said: We first stayed at this hotel in June 2005 for 7 nights. After arriving we found we had been allocated a ground floor room overlooking the car park.
We asked if we could move to a room overlooking the pool, (we were willing to pay extra for this) this was granted without any fuss and at no extra cost.
All staff are friendly and courteous. The hotel runs a bus 3 times a day which is handy if you need to do any shopping.
The hotel also own a restaurant away from the hotel and if you a book a meal here they will provide transport free of charge. We enjoyed the Solferios so much we returned in July 2006.
Yes the hotel is situated up a steep hill but after a good night out you do not notice it and the view of Carveiro from the top of the hill is spectacular.

| said: Our room was huge - we had 2 double beds, a basic kitchenette, a large living room area with a sofa and table and chairs, a huge balcony and - best of all - 2 bathrooms both with a bath and shower! All the rooms have air-conditioning, and are cleaned daily. We also got clean towels every day (and plenty of them!). The decor of the room was somewhat questionable, however we didn't care as it was clean and comfortable - and huge!
The pool and bar area were good enough, nothing spectacular.
The only negative aspect of the Solferias Aparthotel is that it is quite far away from the centre of the resort and up a steep hill. However, there is a courtesy bus 3 times per day, and a taxi only costs 5 euros.
What really makes the Solferias Aparthotel great is the staff, who could not have been more helpful and friendly.

| said: Just had a short break in The Algarve and felt I should share my views with the site readers to help others out.
Firstly I will talk about the accommodation which we booked through Broadway Travel. We paid only £78 for the 2 of us for 4 nights in a self catering studio. Now I used to be a holiday rep for probably the biggest tour operator and I know what a typical studio is like, i.e. sofa-come-bed in the corner of the room, small kitchennette, small balcony.
The room we had at the Solferias was nothing of the sort. It was huge with two single beds, plenty of wardrobe space (however only 6 coat hangers between us), a table and chairs inside and out on the balcony ad dressing table and couple of comfy chairs. There was a small but adequate kitchenette whcih could be closed off from the main room and a fair sized bathroom.
The Balcony was massive with a lovely seaview. Granted the room was very 70's/80's but does that really matter. It's not like we were staying there permanently. The room ws cleaned regularly so to me thats more important than the decor.
The staff are really friendly, there are some lovely public areas in the apartments and the pool area was also really pleasant.
There is a lot of building and development going on around the accommodation, however we never heard any noise and there wasn't any dust or rubble coming near the apartments or on the balcony.
WARNING: this accommodation is really out of the way and up some very steep hills. We had a car for the 5 days we were there and I can safely say we couldn't have done without it. Taxi service is very good in the resort so if you don't have a car you could get taxi's around but that could work out quite costly if you are having to taxi everywhere you go.
The apartments do have a courtesy bus to the resort 3 times daily and also a bus which takes you to their restaurant if you wish to use it. We did visit the restaurant and thought it was really lovely and good prices too.
