The hotel was really good - the staff were very friendly and helpful; the meals were buffet style but well-presented (when we stayed in mid-January the hotel was very quiet, seemed to be only a small number of rooms occupied).
Breakfast is served right through from 7.30 till 10.30 a.m. so you don't need to get up too early! The food itself was very good, we had the table d'hote dinner each night and there was a choice of dish at each course, including a good selection of fish. The puddings were mostly fresh fruit or a type of Portuguese cake (different each evening).
The room was of a good size and very comfortable. The only gripe was that we had paid extra for a sea view and I expected the room to be south-facing, but it seems all the south-facing side of the hotel is taken up with apartments, so the double rooms mostly face east-north-east (the hotel is triangular in plan), so not much sun on the balcony! But then, in January we were mostly out during the day.
The entertainment seemed to consist of a guitar/vocals duo playing in the bar in the evening - they were good but there wasn't very much happening: this suited us but some people may have found it too quiet (as I said, there weren't very many guests at this time, anyway).
There were also some guided walks and visits to local sights during the day - we didn't go on these as we had a hire-car.
The hotel is located directly above the beach, there are beautiful cliff-top walks at the bottom of the hotel grounds, and lovely beaches within a very short walk.
There is a courtesy bus and also a service bus to take you into Armacao. There are one or two small mini-marts within walking distance of the hotel, and as I said there is a bus service from outside the hotel into Armacao and on to Albufeira - but no timetable posted, it did not appear to be very frequent!
If travelling independently, a hire-car for a few days costs no more than taxi transfers from Faro Airport.
