Flights – a total nightmare, planes were too small and having booked a platinum holiday for extra leg room and TV in seatbacks totally disappointed. On the way back we had a 19 hour delay due to pilot running out of flying time. They knew about this when the pilot left Gatwick so why we were all up-rooted, taken to airport, checked in and then told we had to go back to different hotels is beyond me. What made is worse is that people who had an all inclusive holiday were put in a half board hotel and those who paid for a half board holiday went to all inclusive hotel, shocking!
Riu Garope – Hotel was OK, very clean and well kept. Rooms were nice too. However please make sure you use safes provided as a couple in our party were broken into, and by the looks of some of the doors it happened quite regular. The hotel does offer some activities; recommend quad biking and a visit to the Spa, very professional service. Staff friendly, however some of the cleaners could do with smiling.
Food – What can I say, I am a fussy eater and I thought it was OK towards the end it all smelt the same but you cannot please everyone all of the time. Tried Mandalay restaurant – I enjoyed it but you do have to book in advance. Did have a booking for Cape Verde / Grill restaurant but it was the night we were broken into and even though we explained what had happened they still told us no.
Weather – Cloudy most days with a lovely breeze. However it did make it a little chilly when coming out of pool (which was freezing), I would bear in mind if you have children.
Sea – Great fun, not for the faint hearted but lovely clean, warm and the waves are fantastic. We saw a pod of Dolphins swim past one day which was excellent.
Trips – did Sal Island (half day) and did enjoy it. It shows you how so many people live in poverty in Cape Verde. Did find it a little intimidating outside hotel so didn’t go far.
Delay – we were moved from Riu Garope to Morebeza Hotel. In my honest opinion I thought this was the better hotel, more personal service. Food, beer and rooms were good.
Overall would I go again – No, but I think people should go before it turns into Tenerife as building work is going on everywhere.
