| said: We stayed at the Sun Palace during the last two weeks of September 2007. We stayed in the '4 star' part of the hotel (more like 3 star) and found the rooms to be spacious, with plenty of cupboard space, a TV and very clean. The Bathroom was very basic, although a hair dryer was provided.
There was only one small all inclusive bar tucked at the back of the hotel resturant. No problems obtaining beer, spirits and soft drinks although there was no diet/sugar free options available. None of the above was available until after 11.00 am.
The staff worked very hard at all hours keeping all the communial areas clean and tidy. There was plenty of room around the pool area, no problems in getting a sun bed. Both pools though were very cold.
Our main complaint along with the majority of people in the hotel was with quality and variety of the food. It was always cold and seemed to be made up of left overs from the previous day. Definitely not to the english palette, even the most adventurous amongst us struggled to find anything to their liking. The coffee tasted like luke warm mud and I would advise you to take your own tea bags and coffee (and a travel kettle if you want a drink in your room when you get up).
Overall we booked two weeks too late as things in the resort were starting to close and the weather could get quite nippy im the evening, so would advise you to take jeans and a jumper. We would not visit this hotel again due to the standard of the food, which is a real shame as it could be a great hotel if they sorted this problem out.

We would certainly go back to Bulgaria but would definitely go to a different hotel.

| said: this hotel is clean upon our arrival was given a welcome bag with sandwitchs, apple, bottled water.staff very friendly , and do work long hours and always busy very helpful if you needed anything . cleaners never stop cleaning .hotel is in middle of a very busy resort , i would say about 200 meters to the beach, past all the shops ,and in the evening very busy have to keep an eye on children as could get lost easily in the crowds. the hotel food in our opinion was not all that great the same thing was repeated over and over again, veal pork and on a few nights did have chicken which was ok, but that did not bother us as we have been to bulgaria before and expected this, you have to try diffrent things in a diffrent country, but my children and our selves miss the food we have at home so had to go to macdonalds and k.f.c. also had some nights out at a steak house whitch was really nice, and didn't cost much either.the hotel wasn't much more to book than a b&b and was worth it for us to book even if we didn't eat there as kids could go get icecream and drinks allday also adults could have drinks from 11 to 11, overall was a nice holiday ,nice pool ,had a good time proberly go back again, but there are so many other diffrent places to visit, been there done that got the t shirt, but my family are going back next year as they ate the food and enjoyed the hotel .

| said: I was concerned before going on our holiday after reading previous reports posted on here. Having just retuned, I had nothing to worry about.
The hotel and room was clean. The cleaners never seemed to stop working. They were out from 8am till 10pm some nights.
The staff could look a bit miserable, but if you had to work those hours, I don't think you would be jumping for joy. A few of them were ok if you took the time to be polite and say hello to them.
I was expecting the worst when it came to the food, but I was pleasantly suprised. There was always something you would like, plenty of meat, salad and of course chips. Some of the stews were a bit strange, but you have to remember you are not in England so you won't get English food!
The German kids, I was told, were going to university, and they had a week away arranged by their respective colleges. They were sometimes boysterous but by no means offensive. They never got up before dinner so getting a sunbed by the pool wasn't a problem.

| said: We spent two weeks at this hotel in May/June. Our family room was very spacious and had a large balcony over reception. It was very quiet in this location but we would not have been happy if our room was facing the poolside as it was very noisy there.
The food was OK. Yes, you did have to wait ages for the toaster on a morning but you can always get the rest of your food while you are waiting.
At the grill, you could get fried eggs and pancakes which were nice. They seem to under cook the meat over there so I was unable to eat any meat at all. There was plenty of choice though and you could get pasta and pizza all afternoon at the BBQ.
Sadly, the thing that annoyed us most was the unjustified complaints from fellow Brits. If you want English food, why go to Bulgaria? Stay in England!
The young Germans didn't really bother us at all except when they pushed into the queue at the bar.
The staff were OK. Very polite on the bar if you were polite to them.
There was very little entertainment on a night but there was kids and adults games by the pool on an afternoon which kept our kids amused.
The pool was freezing so not recommended if you don't want to come out with blue lips!
Overall, we had a very enjoyable experience at this hotel but maybe it's not the best place to stay if you have children.

| said: Felt aggrieved when we arrived at 3 am Bulgarian time to be told that our room was not ready. The hotel had provided food and hot or cold drinks whilst we waited.
Reading other reports I am dismayed and surprised about the attitude of staff - we found them excellent and especially when they realised that we took the effort to say please and thank you in their language. We,British, can be very arrogant and think that everyone should speak our language whilst we cannot understand a word of theirs.
Yes, the toasting machines were not up to what we are used to but you could always put your toast in and come back for it later.
Meals overall, for what we paid, were okay although I have to admit that the evening meal often left a lot to be desired but our second weeks meals did improve. But it was so cheap to eat out if you found nothing on the menu that appealed to you.
I agree 100% with the review that mentioned the German youngsters. It was evidently a 18-30 holiday for them but we have to look at our own Tour Operators who did not inform us of this.

| said: The hotel is club 18/30 for Germans, very noisy, one all inclusive bar with two staff. Average time for service at the bar 10 Min's!!
Food is great if you like cold meals and salads, breakfast great if you like scrambled egg and pancakes, staff claimed not to speak English but were fluent in German.
No kids club. My advice to UK residents is stay well clear of the sun palace that is unless you want to feel like a second class citizen.

| said: What can we say about the Sun Palace - well it was certainly clean. The cleaners never stop and the bedrooms were spacious and cleaned daily.
Even though you are all inclusive take enough money to eat out every day unless you are going on a serious diet or plan to eat cold chips for tea and soggy scrambled egg and beans for breakfast, not forgetting the 10 min wait to toast some bread along with all the other people waiting each morning.
As for drinks there are three bars, one that only serves paying guest, a pool bar which only serves beer and local spirits (forget that one if you want a soft drink and is only open till 6pm) and then there is the main bar which is very limited and you have to join a rather large queue in the evening that has a serious lack of glasses. My advice is if you get a glass hold on to it otherwise you will have to have a very flimsy plastic cup.
We were quite lucky with regard to our room, it was quite out of the way but a lot of people had problems with disturbances throughout the night and early morning with the 150 german 18-30's that arrived on a weekly basis.
If you are a family and thinking of going to Sun Palace - think again. I don't think you can mix families and 18-30's in the same hotel. How do you explain to a seven year old what they are doing when they are in a group smoking a bong by the pool in the middle of the afternoon or falling over drunk in the evening.
Final note - this was the worst holiday of our life and had to suffer it for 2 weeks. If we could have got a flight home after day 1 we would have.

| said: Sun Palace superior that’s a joke lets start with food in this all inclusive hotel. Cold chips meat like trying to eat your flip-flop some dishes you would not give to your dog unless you did not like your dog. If you go to this hotel take extra money to eat out or you might starve.
Staff not rude just so unhappy all the time.
Entertainment none just loud bang bang music from 10am until 12.30am so if you want a here we go holiday with bad food 10 mile queue's to the bar and unhappy children with no kids clubs this could be the one for you as we found out thank god it was only one week.
The one thing it has got going for it is very big rooms and clean that’s in the 4star. Its a bit club 18 30 with us poor families stuck in amongst it

| said: Reading previous reviews, we were happy to book the Sun Palace for our holiday. We booked into the 4 Star part of the hotel and expected 4 Star service, but we were sadly disappointed.
The attitude of the staff was terrible. They were unhelpful and rude. The bar staff spent the whole time watching TV and smoking cigarettes. If you tried to attract their attention you were greeted with very distainful looks.
The maids were usually quite jolly and friendly, although could speak little or no English.
As for the food, well what can I say. I was very interested to read in previous reviews that pancakes could be eaten for breakfast. We would have been delighted with pancakes. We had (soggy) scrambled eggs every single morning, with a strange sort of sausage that you could not swallow because the skin was so tough. Our evening meal consisted of cold buffet which was partially edible, and hot buffet which was not. The food was barely lukewarm. Every evening was the same, cold spaghetti and cold chips. I can say however, that the salad was very palatable. Also, in the evening they didn't put out bread for the soup, and you couldn't have tea or coffee as they didn't put out milk in the evenings (many guests bought their own). Being in a four star hotel - having paid for half board - we didn't budget for eating out.
The hotel had no atmosphere at all. Although there was a bar, there was no music.
I am pleased to say that the hotel was not all bad. The 4 star rooms are enormous, the bed bigger than a king size, and very very clean. The toilet was also very spacious.
All in all, I would encourage anyone to not visit the Sun Palace Hotel.

| said: Having read the reviews on this hotel before going I thought it would be ok I was so wrong.
When we arrived the staff were friendly and helpful taking our cases giving us a bottle of wine and comp dinner for two nights. Then we were told our rooms were not ready until our 3rd day there. We were all put in one stinking room with a broken shower and fridge a filthy carpet (NOT JUST STAINS ACTUAL FILTH) bugs in our bed as they had to open windows due to pong! And there wasn’t a balcony my son slept in a chair and my mother on a couch whilst my husband & I and my daughter slept in the bed. After we got our rooms they were clean as we were in the 4 star part where we were supposed to be.
The reception staff were nice as was the manager, but the bar staff (all female ) were rude and lazy as was the opinion of everyone who used the bar. If you stood for 10mins you were lucky its usually 20mins to get served (and no one else is waiting)
The hotel has no entertainment what so ever nothing! The only positive thing is the location and the food DONT EVEN GO THERE NO-ONE DID.
So our first time in Sunny Beach was rubbish!

| said: We were very happy with our choice of hotel. We had one of the family rooms, with no balcony, but the room was very clean and very big.
The staff at the hotel were fantastic, especially the pool bar staff, they were great with the children and even though they work very long hours always found the time to ask how we were.
We loved the pancakes for breakfast and also fried eggs, yum.
The hotel is right in the middle of the resort but despite this the noise at night was minimal.
There is a small shop in the hotel also an exchange booth, although there is also a safe exchange shop directly in front of the hotel. We hired a safety deposit box, they are in reception and cost 3 lev per day. Worth every penny in my opinion. And our valuables were safe and sound.
We will definitely go back to the Sun Palace hopefully next year. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

| said: We stayed in the 3 star section of the hotel in a family room. The room was large and clean with two single beds joined together and a double settee, fridge and air conditioning, the only problem with this room was that it had no balcony (excellent if you have small kids). We asked the hotel staff and the balkan rep (Milan) if we could have a room with a balcony, they were very helpful and moved us after 3 days.
I didn,t mind the breakfast which was geared up for the europeans, but my wife and kids had the pancakes with chocolate spread. To improve breakfast they could of put more grills on for toast and some beans and bacon.
The pool was o.k. but it does need updating and the surrounding the sun lounger section could be made larger. The pool bar area was good and the staff friendly and polite.
But to all those of you who have booked the 2 star wing don't complain, you get what you pay for!!! But they are upgrading the wing to a 3 star and the main hotel to a 4 star for the 2005 season.
