This hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff were very nice. The hotel is just off the top of the strip but far enough away from the busy bars and clubs. It was our first time to the algarve and we would definately recommend this hotel and this area of Portugal. Has a large pool with plenty of sunbeds, the bar prices were expensive but no more so than what you would expect, we had 2 teenage girls with us and the place seemed really safe

Very impressed with room size, as we had a 2-bedroom apt. that slept 6. This was 2 bedrooms with 2 twin beds in, and 2 huge pullout settees in the front room. My son, who is 6 ft 4 loved the settees so much he refused to budge - and that was just lying on top of one, not even pulling out the bed!!
The snack bar was very good, if a little expensive - 5 euros for a coke! But good size platefuls, if you just fancied a lunchtime snack.
The hotel has a lovely big pool, and no fighting for a sun bed.Hurrah!
Excellent location. You are 2 minutes from The strip, but well away from any noise.

We arrived to be told that if we sioled the linens we would be charged, not the best welcome. The decor was tatty and dusty with a cobweb hanging from the air con unit. On the plus side towels were changed every day.The receptionist had a mobile phone attached to her at all times even when giving change. Most of the equipment was faulty in the gym and the table tennis and tennis courts were old there as a sign in the gym tht actually said-not running on treadmill!

Excellent hotel, very clean and spacious with all mod cons. Loads of nice places to eat on strip. Bit expensive but this was mainly due to exchange rate.

Bad bit, we choose this hotel due to having an indoor pool and gym. The pool is used mainly for the locals swimming lessons (timetable on hotels website)they don't ask you to leave but it does make you feel very uncomfortable when the pool is full of portuguese female oap's attending auqa fit and your 3 and 5 year olds want to play.

Would go back, but not if we wanted indoor pool.

I was very impressed with the Vila Petra Hotel. It was clean, airy and rooms were very spacious. The air con took a bit of working out but a bonus to have. It was quite close to the strip, in easy walking distance, but we were away from all the hustle and bustle. We were there for New Year and there was a fantastic party on a local beach with a concert and fireworks, all the music was in English! It was the best New Year I think I have had. We will definately return in the future.

Just returned from an excellent stay at the Vila Petra. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Was exceptionally clean and staff were extremely friendly. We arrived at the hotel at 9am and although told we could not check into our room until 2pm the receptionist swapped rooms around so that we could check in straight away. When checking out you have to vacate room by 10am however upon our request we were allowed to keep the room on until 1pm with no extra charge.

The apartments are extremely clean and have everything you need i.e. hairdryer, toaster, microwave etc. Maids came in everyday and were friendly - made a big fuss of the children.

The pool area was really good and kids were in the pool from morning until early evening (far too cold for the adults though). They do have an indoor pool however you have to purchase swimming caps to wear.

We were self catering so did not eat in the hotel however there are numerous excellent restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.

Will definitely be going back next year.

Back here again for another great holiday. The apartment had everything we needed and we got extra pillows and a replacement toaster upon request.
We all had sickness during the week and the cleaners were so good about changing bedding and towels.
The pool area is lovely and the staff did stop people leaving towels and heading off for the day so the people at the pool had the beds.
Bus to the beach is great, although we walked down you would not walk back up!
Really great place for family and couples to stay. Just off the strip and away from the noise.

Have just got back from my second visit to the vila petra and I was not disapointed.

The hotel is lovely and clean and the staff are friendly. We booked the holiday ourselves by using vila petras website and we ended up saving our selves a few hundred pounds by doing so.

We had booked a studio however on arrival found ourselves in a one bedroom apartment for no extra cost which was a pleasent suprise. The apartment itself was extremely spacious and had everything you need for staying self catering. The kitchen was equipped with an oven, hob, fridge, dishwaher, kettle and microwave. The living room had a tv, DVD player, 2 sofa beds and the all important air con!

The bathroom was gorgeous, all done out in marble eefect with a bath and over head shower, toilet, large sink and a massive mirror for vain people like myself to stare at yourself in.

The bedroom also had air con and the beds were really comfortable. Not hard and lumpy like some hotels Ive stayed at. There was also extra wardrobe space in the hall as you walked in so plenty of space to put your stuff.

We had a huge balcony that got the sun all day and there were chairs and a table if you wished to sit out and have food etc.

The room was cleaned every day and fresh towels were always left. The same woman cleaned the room every day so we got to know her and she would always say hello.

We didnt use the pool much as there was quite a few kids and we prefered to sit on our balcony or go out to the beach or the old town. The complex has a good range of facilities including an inside swimming pool, tennis & squash courts a gym, sauna, Turkish bath and massage room.

My boyfriend treated me to a massage which was 40 euros for an hour and it was really good, so relaxing.

We never really ate on the complex either so cant actually comment on the food. The supermarket on sight was good and things were fairly cheap.

The reception were always very friendly and they can change travellers cheques which makes it easier.

The hotel is situated just back from the strip so its easy to get to but at the same time you dont get the noise from the bars.

Like I said at the start this is my second trip to the vila petra and we like it so much we are going back for a third time next year with a group of family and friends.

I would definitely recommend to anyone.

Spent a fantastic fortnight in Vila Petra 26th may to 9th june. 2 adults and 1 infant in a studio. I e- mailed ahead to make sure a high chair and cot would be available and they were in the room on our arrival. The apartments are very well kitted out with full oven, hob, dishwasher etc and plenty glasses and crockery etc.

Everything was spotless, all lights worked, great power shower and always hot water which is a change.

Very child safe balcony (concreted walls instead of rails) but lost the sun as early as 11am but this was goos as our 20month old was wandering about and this meant he didn't get the sun on the balcony at the heat of the day. We were located in the 2nd block outside, there are 3 incl reception/main block but just a few minutes walk.

Laundry was €3.50 for a wash and same for a dry but both machines were huge and took a large load, get the key and tokens from reception.

Night entertainment looked pretty average but we were out most nights and only stopped in for a nightcap the odd night. Large beer in the hotel a bit more expensive at €3.20 compared to as little as €1.50 around the Strip. Tasted the same to me!!

Large pool area but a few times not enough to go round if you go down after 10am but lovely gardens and grounds to put your towel down on. We did this a few times with the bairn as it was lovely lying in the shade and he wandered around happily. Main pool was warmer than the baby one strangely. Sunbeds were reserved contrary to what the sign said at the poolside. I was at the pool early (9am) and the 2 beds next to me had towels on with no people. I left at around 1pm for lunch and still no bodies on the sunbeds. Selfish, as others were coming down and couldn't get one.

Health centre, jacuzzi/whirlpool, massage, indoor pool, onsite supermarket, laundry, 2 bars, restaurant, excellent gym, tennis, squash.......plenty to do.

Very well equipped, smart, clean, well run apartments with lovely gardens and location. Okay, it's near the Strip but not noisy at all.

I would highly recommend these apartments to couples and families alike and would definately return to them. Only downside was we not only e-mailed ahead to First Choice and the hotel but also asked the hotel several times while there for a late checkout as we had a 7 hour gap between vacating the room and being picked up for the airport, but they coudn't/wouldn't accomodate us. We even offered to pay a full daily rate so our son could get a sleep during the day but no go. The hotel was not full so I don't know why?

Great apartments in a great location so go for Vila Petra. Definately 4 star.

Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to others. It was obviously a quiet period when we were at the hotel and the weather not always brilliant. Never the less, the facilities were first class.

A superb pool, tennis, squash, sauna, pool and tennis tables.

The hotel was very clean and the rooms spacious and comfortable with all the equipment that you would need.

The staff were always pleasant and helpful.

Restaurant is very good, a la carte available and also 'set' menus at 15 Euro for three courses with a bottle of wine. Breakfast excellent value at 6 Euros.

The hotel is just far enough away from 'the strip' so that you can't hear the noise etc. As importantly, the position of the hotel is such that only those using the hotel would have a reason to come close by. Oura beach is a half hour stroll away, a bit longer coming back up the hill. Some nice restaurants nearby.

When we were there there is a large holiday home construction nearing completeion to the rear of the hotel (not too noisy though).

All in all an excellent hotel with very good facilities. We will certainly visit again.

This was our first holiday with our five month old son and we were delighted with the facilities.

The apartments were very well equipped and its location, just off the top of the strip was excellent.

The pool is lovely with no problems getting beds and parasols anytime of the day and the staff are very helpful.

We did not see any of the entertainment so cannot comment.

The place was very quiet at night and we did not get disturbed at all.

Would really recommend this place for families and couples alike.

Excellent accommodation, very clean and well equipped. However the outside pool was very cold even in August, although the poolside gardens were very attractive.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

The location was ideal for us, not too close to the hustle and bustle of the bars and restaurants in the town, but within comfortable walking distance when we wanted to use the restaurants. However we found that the live entertainment in the bar area did continue into the early hours and unfortunately our room was above the bar, so this was disturbing for us.

We requested a room change and this was dealt with speedily and efficiently by the reception staff.

We can recommend booking the excursions to Lisbon, the Best of the Algarve tour and the traditional Portuguese evening (be prepared for the mosquito invasion!) Zoomarine and Slide and Splash are enjoyable for all.

We visited the Vila Petra and thought it was an ideal
choice for the family.
The hotel was spotless, the staff were friendly and approachable. The food was excellent and the entertainment was fine even though the world cup dominated the early part of the evening.
The pool was very clean with many available sunbeds although the water was cold, the weather was so hot you didn,t really notice too much.
We will certainly be returning there in the future.

This place is absolutely fantastic - just can't fault it. We had a huge studio with a lovely view of the beautiful gardens and the pool. It had a microwave, full oven (tho we ate out all the time), toaster, coffee maker, dishwasher, iron & board, hairdryer and the tv even had english channels!!

It is in an ideal location just off the strip about halfway up. There's a gym, squash court, tennis courts, aerobics classes, hairdresser, beautician, supermarket. The staff are really friendly especially on reception where they know your key number straight away without you having to ask for it. The accommodation feels really safe as its all enclosed and reception appear to be very security conscious. The cleaners always are always working hard and our studio was immaculately clean.

We didn't eat here so couldn't comment on the food and with it being March there wasn't much entertainment going on here but there's so much going on nearby that it didnt really matter.

We were so impressed that we've booked to go back here in August with our friends.

Really can't recommend it enough - it's fabulous.

We had read some reviews of this hotel before we travelled and were not disappointed.

The hotel is very clean. The housekeeping staff were good, on our first morning the toaster wasn't working we had a new one within a few hours of reporting it. The apartment was very well equipped, plenty dishes and glasses, with the added bonus of a dishwasher so you don't even have to wash up! When we visited the hotel was quite quiet.

The only real noise was in the late evening when people were coming back in, our apt was next to the lifts.
If you want to be close to the resort centre but far enough away not to have noise from pubs this is perfect, one street away from the top end of "the strip".

Reception staff were very helpful and friendly, our children loved handing in the key and collecting it when we returned and the staff got to know them and they soon didn't even have to say which room number they wanted but were handed the correct key much to their amazement.

Can't really comment on the entertainment in the hotel as we never visited the bar or restaurant, had a live act 2 nights a week when we were there but we went out to eat every night.

The outdoor pool was really cold, but the kids still went in, it was clean and there are plenty sunbeds around it.

I felt it was a large pool for the size of the hotel. Our children didn't use the playground as the equipment there was aimed at pre-school children.

We have been to the algarve 8 times and this is by far the the best all round accommadation we have had. cleanliness was superb, rooms were large with two balconies overlooking the pool.

We only had snacks which were good and reasonably priced.

The location for us was ideal as I would never drink and drive, everything is in walking distance with some great eateries in Aura.

We found the staff extremely courtious with good inhouse facilities, squash, sauna, jaccuzzi, indoor pool, table tennis and games room.

This is one place we will be going back to.

I would highly recommend the Vila Petra. The hotel was lovely, rooms were very spacious and very clean with maid service everyday except Sundays.

The pools were of a good size but a little cold.

The hotel is situated 2 minutes walk away from the strip, but you don't hear any noise once you return to your rooms.

A trip to the old town is worth visiting, children will love the mime artists and the puppet shows.

Vila Petra is an extremely well equipped "Apart Hotel"

Located 300mts from the North end of the "Strip".

Maid service is each day except Sunday.

The buildings, pool area were all exeptionally clean and well maintained.

Our apartment had 2 large bedrooms - one with a balcony, a large lounge with a 20 channel TV & another balcony, the kitchen had loads of cupboards a dishwasher, toaster, microwave - overall loads of space.

The staff were fine - there if you needed them.

In mid September when we stayed there was some entertainment - key board/singers parrot shows etc but we chose to venture out for entertainment.

The pool area is quite large and safe, sunbeds surround the pool and as you can't reserve them were usually available - (in September though) - there is a free minibus to the beach.

In July 2005 this will be our third year at Vila Petra.
We saved considerably by booking direct and arranging our own flights..in fact the holiday in 2005 will cost less than 2004 and considerably less than 2003 when we booked as a package holiday!

Vila Petra is ideally situated. Not too close to the Strip, just a pleasant walk and there are many excellent restaurants and bars.

As a golfer I book with the travel reps who come to the hotel and there is no problem.

The apartments are kept extremely clean, the pool and surrounding gardens, and particularly Maria and Sofia on reception are wonderful.

I would recommend Vila Petra to anyone.

I have stayed at the Vila Petra twice now and am booking to go again (October 2004). It is really very very nice.

The apartments are superb: fresh, clean, well decorated and everything is shiny and new. The kitchen is a real bonus as you get a dishwasher, microwave etc- lovely.

The first time I went, I booked direct with the Vila petra. You can e-mail them at reservations@vilapetra.com.

Their prices are fixed but you can sometimes make a saving on brochure prices.

The Vila Petra is by far the best apts I have ever been to,seperate kitchen with all mod cons :- full oven dishwasher toaster blender coffee maker fridge very small ice box hairdryer air conditioning t.v. with bbc1 bbc2.They are very spacious and clean, clean towels daily, clean bedding twice weekly, the staff is very nice too although don't speak very much english but reception staff are fluent. Situated near the top of the strip and back off the road. The apts also run a mini bus daily for guests wishing to travel to oura beach (but not the old town). Pool area is excellent with plenty of loungers mattresses and parasols for everyone. We did'nt try the restaurant although the menu always looked quite good. The only minus was that there was no entertainment at all when we were there, maybe they do have some in the busier season.

We have just got back from our holiday in the Algarve. We had booked to stay at another hotel but upgraded to the Vila Petra. The studios are extremley spacious & comfortable with a separate kitchen/lounge/bedroom & full bathroom. The pool was great, just a bit cold for the time of year we went. We would definately go back there & recommend it to anyone wanting a nice relaxing holiday. The TV in the rooms also has channels such as BBC 1 & 2 so you can keep up with the latest with the programmes back home.

What a fabulous place. It was first class accommodation and I would recommend it to anyone.

The staff are so friendly and the complex itself was spotlessly clean.

The pools were clean, all the areas around the pools were clean.

The rooms were cleaned everyday, apart from a Sunday.

We most ate out at nights along the Strip - there are some great places to visit.

Our daughter was 6 when we were there and she loved every minute of it.

A visit to the old town is worth while because there are a lot of street acts about.

These are without a doubt the grandest apartments we have ever stayed in - the 2 bedroomed/2 bathroom/2 balconies one we had with pool view, separate kitchen, enough storage space to stay all year and fantastic marble floors and huge velvet couches etc. The grounds, snack bar and indoor health spa facilities are very well kept and from the back you could never guess just how close you are to the infamous Albufeira "Strip".
The weather was still fantastic end of Oct. begin of Nov. which was a bonus, and we did get to use the sunloungers and the indoor pool a lot.
It was not too noisy or rough outside the complex as it was the end of season, but the staff at the Vila Petra are not as friendly as we are used to in Spain etc. and seem to care more about the "locals" who pay for the Leisure Spa and Conference facilties at the Hotel, than for package tourists. We travelled with STYLE holidays (booked over internet) and it was a REAL BARGAIN would recommend THEM to anyone. But won't be going back - Portugal had nothing that Spain, Canaries and Balearics don't do so much better.

The apartments at the Vilapetra are very spacious and extremely clean. They have a separate kitchen which is very well equipped and lovely marble bathrooms. The apartment also has loads of storage spaces for your suitcases and clothes. The pool area is very nice, but when we went in June the water was so cold that hardly anybody went in it! The hotel offers buffet breakfast but we were very disappointed with the small selection and amount of items offered, so I would not recommend taking this option. There are loads of restaurants within a few minutes walking distance. The best one we found was Liza's Pizzas at the beginning of The Strip. Worst one was El Ranchero at the end of The Strip - this place looks lovely from the outside but the food is terrible!
