| said: my husband and i stayed in the lord bagenal for 2 nights. on arrival we were greeted by extremly helpful staff who couldn't do enough for us. we booked into the waterfront restaurant for the 1st night after reading john and sally mckenna's '' top 100 restaurants in ireland''. what they said about the food lived up to expectations, it was excellent. so good infact that we booked in for the second night again, bearing in mind that there is plenty of restaurant and bar food options in this beautiful little village. the lord bagenal has all the charisma that soo many hotels lack at present.we had our 1st drink on probably the most romantic(and largest) decked area by the river(smokers paradise).the feel - good factor bleeds through the staff and ambience of this hotel like a perfectly timed orchestra. it is perfect for quite getaways with your partner, summer walks along the river or just a bit of everything. the only thing it lacked for me was the gym... but the are soo many walks and bars along the way why ruin it thinking of things you should be doing. iam still thinking of the dish i had at the waterfront, rump of veal, potato and smoked gubeen gratin, creamed peas and bacon, bernaise sauce. sounds simple, i awake thinking of this dish for breakfeast, lunch, dinner.....

| said: Walker's paradise and very peaceful. Good for young families, singles of all ages, over 50's etc. Not recommended for families with teen-agers 'seeking action' - otherwise fine!
The outside of the Hotel hides a modern and stream-line steel and cushioned renovation of interior which has been done very well. We stayed on half-board (B & B and one evening meal). We were given a complimentary upgrade to one of the Hotel's 'Signature' Suites - one of 5. The cost per person was €89.00pp (about £70.00pp?).
The Suite we were assigned was spotless. The furnishings included a king sized four poster (no poster cover) bed along with a single bed, large sofa and coffee table, large wardrobe, tea/coffee, large dressing table which could be used as a writing desk. En-suite facilities included included both a full bath and separate shower compartment in the large room. Lots of little extras including better quality shampoos, body lotions and vanity kit for ladies plus bottled water and glasses.
We had dinner in the Lord Bagenal Restaurant (smaller of two - there is the Waterfront Restaurant as well - more formal and a la carte with view of the River Barrow). When we arrived we discovered the room held two real coal fires burning brightly and candles were lit on all tables. Diners were seated nicely apart from each other so everyone had a bit of privacy. Starters, Main Courses and Desserts were well presented and although we were on a package deal - we were given the regular menue - there was no fixed menue.
Hotel location was very handy - two blocks from the River Barrow walks and right on the river itself.
Hotel staff - very accomodating and polite - warm welcome when we checked in.
We did not experience any entertainment - but were not seeking any so may have missed some music or entertainment in the Bar area. We both wanted a good break from parental routine and this allowed us just that - a good rest.
Would I recommend this hotel to anyone? YES!
