we loved it here, the 2bedded apa
rtment was massive,2 bathrooms, very clean and a good pool view on the 1st floor.didnt find the reception staff all that friendly but the couple in the hotel bar were very friendly.brits abroad will love it here cos you get gmtv on the tv!!!!
The snack bar was brill for a bite to eat and the lady who owned it was lovely and food was great for lunch.
The pool was clean and an ace diving board, gardens cleaned every eve and washed down in the morning.
Position was great for us as it was a lovely 20min walk to the old town/square.
we were not keen on the strip(10min walk)however, we loved to eat in liza's resturant and to say ello to mr.popcorn man.for a family of 4 go for the 2bedroomed apartment,3 x air con units, needed it as not a cloud in the sky all week-we loved it and will go back again to these good quailty apartments

On the GOOD side, spotlessly clean rooms, maid service 6 times a week, good location, near enough to the strip but far enough away to be potentially peaceful, great pool bar service and food and drink, nice grounds and swimming pool, great bakery around the corner for fresh bread and cakes. On the BAD side, all sunbeds reserved by 7:30am, only 102 for 76 rooms, some families reserving 10 at a time and not arriving until lunchtime, other occasions saw 4 reserved and not used until 4:30 and another 4 not used at all, apparently external guests are allowed to come in as well – heard the Oura Hotel collect towels off beds if vacant for an hour (a good precedent), children running riot along the corridors pressing door bells after midnight while parents are presumably still in the bar (we disabled ours for the rest of the holiday to try and get some peace), guests noisily going to their rooms after midnight (walls seem to be very thin and bedrooms are alongside the open corridors), guests arriving and leaving all hours with wheely trolleys (hotel cant help that though), we visited the hotel bar 3 times which was often deserted probably due to better prices obtainable elsewhere.

We’d recommend Farnels on Rue D’Almeida (just off the strip) as best restaurant all meals fantastic, and suggest Windsurfer on the strip as one to avoid unless you like a lot of salt and prefer brown chicken and bones to breast, Portofinos as the friendliest family refreshment bar on the strip and it also had the funny mime artist performing a nightly session outside it. Lisa’s for pizzas and any local supermarket for cheap supplies apart from the little one nearest the hotel as they seemed to charge almost double the price of others. Zoomarine about 15 minutes from Albufeira was fantastic, and the land train from Sao Jaoa to the old town is good if there are more than 4 of you otherwise a taxi is just as cheap. We also explored along the coast and visited the marina at Vilamora and the beach at Praia do Vau where we found a brilliant little restaurant near the beach called Patrimonio, basic but good quality food at great prices.

I wouldnt recommend booking car hire with Thomsons before you arrive. We did and were asked to pay a second (and higher) excess when we collected the car which we refused, the local rep didn’t want to know, referring us to complain to the Thomson shop when we got back, and although they said they would ring us back they never have.

Hotel is really lovely and clean.

We had a studio. All studios are on the ground floor and they all look over the pool the apartments overlook the pool as well. The studios are really big, lovely patio area with table and4 chairs + 2 sun loungers with mattresses. We didn’t use one of ours as we got a visitor every night when we came back from the strip (a cat).

Bathroom was also big with lovely clean tiles. Large mirror above sink and even a hairdryer. Kitchen area had microwave ,kettle ,toaster. Even a table. Living area had 2beds table 4 chairs, television you can even get English channels. 2 arm chairs a sofa, coffee table. You have table lamps ,a floor lamp . Its like Blackpool illuminations when all the lights are on. Maids came in every day except Sunday with clean towels ,oh they even provide you with tea towels as well.

Pool area is clean with plenty of sun loungers with mattresses that are free. Pool bar is nice as well ,you should try their breakfast. Everybody is so friendly and always say ola.

Our only grumble has to be we were in studio 008. Right next to the toilets. That didn’t bother us, it was one night we stayed in as I wasn’t feeling very well had a terrible headache, it was 9 30 at night, and right above the studio is the games room. We hadn’t noticed it before as we weren’t getting in till one or two in the morning. Anyway from 9 30 till 1.30 all you could hear were snooker balls bouncing of the floor and kids running around. So if your the type that wants a early night forget it, The resort itself has loads of shops ,bars cafes restaurants all on one long strip. There are also bars hidden away in the side streets if you go looking you can find them /all in all the Tropical Sol is the best,

This Hotel is clean and staff very friendly apartment are a good size and very spacious, rooms are cleaned daily, and the hotel is only 5 mins walk to the strip.

The only problem was that there was three apartments broken into while guests slept in their beds, and had personal belongings stolen as well as their passports. Hotel security is very poor and no guards patrol at night which is unbelievable considering the resort is in the grip of a crimewave. We slept with the lights on at night and put furnishings up against the doors to ensure our own safety as the hotel would not up its security by putting security guards on at night.

We were very impressed with our hotel, the rooms were very spacious and we had a balcony overlooking the pool. We were on the first floor but luckily had nobody above us either. We were in room 101 which we did find to be quite noisy at night but we soon got used to that and it was never a problem. We had not intended to eat in the apartment so did not pay any attention to the utensils provided but were very impressed with the welcome pack that appeared after a few hours, unfortunately we discovered this on our return from the supermarket with our own essentials anyway!!! The rooms were cleaned out every day and the beds made up for us which was a welcome sight after coming back after a long day at the beach, clean towels every day if needed too.

We never stayed in the hotel to make use of their entertainment at night so cannot comment on that.

The hotel staff were very polite and friendly, and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them.

The location was perfect to walk to the strip each night and we ate out every night, our favourite restaurant was the Grill Room or Grill House, even though you had to wait a while (sometimes up to an hour and a half) for your meal to come as it is prepared fresh as you order, we found it well worth the wait. On my birthday, and our last day of the holiday, we went there and the chef produced a bottle of champagne for us on the house which was a very nice touch and just ended the holiday nicely.....!!

These apartments are superb! Would definitely recommend them to anyone.

Absolutely spotless, the location is fantastic - although abit of a walk to the beach, but there is a free bus from the apartments. Only 5 minutes walk to the strip where there are some lovely restaurants - we ate out every night for 2 weeks and only had one bad meal.

The Staff in the Apartments are very friendly and helpful. The Family who run the poolside bar are great and the food is lovely and very reasonable.

Evening entertainment is provided 3/4 nights a week, which consists of a guitarist on Mondays (he is very funny), a parrot show (we didn't see this) and 2 karaoke
nights.

There is a lovely bakery just around the corner, which is very cheap.

A taxi to the old town costs around 3.5 euros and it is absolutely lovely - would recommend the "Bravo" restaurant, in the square.

This was our first visit to the Algarve and will definitely go back and to these apartments - we had a fantastic time!

I travelled with my hubby and our 16 year old daughter to this hotel 1st 2 weeks of August. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment which was on the ground floor. It was an excellent position for the pool. Just walk out of the terrace area and you are on to the grassy area beside the pool. The rooms were cleaned every day and the general cleanliness of the rest of the complex, pool, bar, snack bar, etc were all of a high standard.

Staff were nice, especially in the Tropical Bar.

We were self catering and the location was great as there were good supermarkets nearby and an excellent bakery just around the corner. There was some road noise, especially when trying to sleep at night, but after a few nights we got used to this.

No daytime entertainment and evening entertainment consisted of Karaoke, Guitarist, Parrot Show. The strip just round the corner and old town, a short taxi ride gave us all the entertainment we needed with great bars and some lovely restaurants.

Would definitely recommend these apartments if you want to be near the Strip.

There were quite a few teenagers staying at the apartments when we were there (not rowdy though!) which was great for my daughter as she met some lovely friends who she will stay in touch with.

We stayed at the Tropical Sol apartments. Rooms very well furnished and very spacious, cleaned with new towels everyday.

Pool and pool area cleaned every day.

Hotel staff were excellent.

Poolside cafe/bar was excellent and the family running it were lovely.

Entertainment limited but very near to strip. Loads of restaurants close by with variety of good food.

Rep could have been more helpful not very interested.

Would definitely go back to these apartments.

Excellent acomodation, our party had a two bedroom apartment and a studio. We could have all fitted into the very large two bedroom, two bathroom apartment very comfortably. There was air conditioning in the rooms at no extra cost. The rooms were very clean and very well equipped.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and even made a special effort to come and say goodbye whem we left.

Food in the poolside bar was very good.

The entertainment was poor but with the "strip" so close by this was not a problem.

We were not disturbed by any late night noise and the strip club across the road had shut down so no problems there!

On the whole this was a lovely place to stay and we will definitely try to go there again.

We stayed in a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment.Very very spacious and very well equipped. Rooms cleaned everyday and we never had to buy a toilet roll in the 2 weeks we were there. Plenty of sunbeds and always plenty available. Although it was the end of september, it was still pretty busy and yet nobody hogged the sunloungers with towels. Hotel location was very good. Only ten minutes stroll to 'The Strip'(a very long road with plenty of bars, restaurants, shops etc). Yet far enough away to be quiet. Was a little worried on arrival as there was a strip club opposite our apartments, but there really is nothing to worry about. Although we were always back in our apartment by 11pm we never saw anything, day or night. And we certainly didn't hear any noise either.A first class apartments.A courtesy mini bus is provided to take you to the old town. Well worth going.

The Tropical Sol Apartments in Soao Jao are spacious, clean and well equipped. We stayed in Room 306 which was a two bedroom, two bathroom air-conditioned apartment located three floors directly above the reception, hotel bar area. There was a maid service six days of the week. The kitchen was well equipped with hob, microwave and sink/drainer but lacked an oven.We have stayed in far worse both at home and abroad.

There was large pool with a diving board which ran from a depth of 0.5m to nearly 4m deep. The pool and surrounding area were cleaned daily.Bagging sunbeds was rife, towels would be placed on beds hours before the sunbeds would be used. The vast majority of Holidaymakers at the Tropical Sol were British with a few Spanish towards the end of our stay. There is a full-size Tennis Court available to hire at €8 per hour including equipment.

There are at least six supermarkets within a ten minute walk and a bakery within 100 yards.

We found the Staff friendly and efficient. The entertainment available was not to our taste consisting of a singer/guitarist,a Parrot show and two nights of Karaoke which went on until after 1am.The noise from the Karaoke and holidaymakers taking up to an hour to settle down afterwards meant sleep before 2:15am was difficult on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Directly opposite our apartment was the Oura Hotel which had a Female Strip Club attached. The Club was open until 3am for six nights out of seven.During the day it caused no problems but at 3am when it closed, the drunken yobbish behaviour of its' visitors mean't you would be woken up.With men shouting and screaming, taxis arriving/departing with horns tooting and wheels screaching, you were guaranteed a broken nights' sleep.

The apartments are located within five minutes walk of the Strip which consists of lots of shops and restaurants.Though the meals were reasonably priced, there was no quality. Some bargains were to be had in the shops especially leather goods. We visited Albufiera old town and found it expensive, crowded and not worth the visit.

The roads around Soao Jao were busy with poor driving and speeding common amongst Portuguese and British alike, especially at night.

Overall,we found the Algarve a pleasant place to holiday and the Tropical Sol was a good base. The weather was superb with a steady breeze 24/7.It rained on our last day for approx. 2 hours but soon dried.

This is a very clean and friendly place in which to stay.

We were allocated this "on arrival" and it far exceeded our expectations, especially as we travelled to Portugal during Euro2004.

The staff is exceptionally accommodating and we were lucky enough to have a poolside apartment which was very convenient.

Nice clean pool and facilities.

Recommended.

TROPICAL SOL; The hotel was very clean with maids visiting everyday. The hotel is only a very short walk to the main strip in Albufeira although it was quiet in the hotel for a relaxed atmosphere. The staff as with all portugese people I found were friendly and accomadating, and with a games room and lively hotel bar with live entertainment it was a most enjoyable holiday.
