| said: There seems to be 2 sets of reviews for this hotel, in addition to this one please see the ones for “Blue Lagoon Resort” above…it’s the same hotel.
This is the first time we have stayed at on an All-Inclusive basis, having previously normally stayed Half-Board, I would certainly after this experience stay on that basis again.
So about the hotel –
Location:
The First Choice brochure stated that this hotel was “on the outskirts of Kos Town”, a more accurate description would be “Almost half-way between Kos Town and Tigaki”. The hotel is literally in the middle of no-where apart from a very small supermarket and single taverna there is nothing within a 1.5km radius of this hotel. And it is a very long walk (about 4km to the centre of Kos Town). Having said that there is a very frequent (every 30mins) bus to Kos Town which cost about 2 Euro each way and take about 15mins. Also they run up until around 2am.
Accommodation:
Again a slight inaccuracy in the First Choice Brochure, we thought we had requested a two-room family suite as described in the brochure, instead we got what the hotel called a Junior suite. This was a very spacious room but was not split as expected. The Room was always kept immaculately clean by the maids and was equipped with flat screen tv (3 English channels), Kettle and fridge.
Food & Drink:
I had head from others that All-Inclusive drinks were weak compared to what you normally find. This was certainly the case with the Lager and spirits/cocktails but the Wine was very good and there nothing stopping you asking for several vodkas which when combined were equivalent to one normal short!!
The Food was slightly above the quality we have found in Half-Board Greek Hotels with a quite extensive choice and not smothered in salt as is usually the case. The section at breakfast was ‘interesting’ with Brussel Sprouts often being served amongst other veg.
There are two sittings for the meal, we recommend you choose the second sitting which was much quieter. For an even better dining experience choose the ‘other’ alleged Theme restaurant. The theme had nothing to do with the food being served and only related to the nationality of the flags above the dining area. For example we went on ‘Italian Night’ expecting to find Pizza, Pasta, Spaghetti, Garlic Bread etc….but we found the same food as in the main restaurant even down to the Sprouts!!!
If you wished, you could sit and eat food all day (some people did I think!) apart from between 6 and 6.30pm…Like another reviewer I recommend the Pizza in the pool dining area, but be warned – you are not allowed to collect the pizza on napkins (to take to eat at your sunbed) before 2.30pm, you must collect on a plate (and transfer to napkin at the table) – thems the rules!
The other strange rule in force at the hotel relates to where you can sit when drinking the alcohol-free all inclusive drinks – don’t sit too near to the non-inclusive bar – you will be asked to move!
Entertainment :
The hotel had the usual team of ‘red-coats’ running around trying to get people to join in the water polo, beach volley ball, knobbly knees contest, etc but this was pretty non-intrusive except for one very annoying guy who seemed to want to play load dance music and shout for 1 hour continuously on the P.A system between 3.30 and 4.30 every day so don’t forget the charger for your iPod!!
Thankfully we were not subjected to the red-coats entertaining us at night, instead there was some reasonably good singers and acrobats/fire eaters in the main ‘tent’, or you could just relax in the Piano bar.
There were some good activities for the kids (our son was 11) during the day but the very large sports area (full size football pitch, crown green bowls, tennis, basketball, crazy golf, pool, and much more) was very under used and it would not take much to organise some evening activities for the 11+ youths in this area during the evenings.
Grounds/Pool:
The hotel has the largest pool in Greece (5 million gallons apparently) and water was pretty much everywhere around (and under the hotel). The kids pool was also fantastic with a pirate ship for the little’uns and 3 water slide for the under 11s. The only problem was for some reason the Hotel turned off the water running down the slides at 2.30 pm so the children were able to easily climb up the slides and were forced to slide down without the aid of running water…this was quite dangerous and very strange.
In addition to these pools there was an indoor pool (for over 16s) along with full Spa and well equipped Gym – all as good, if not better than anything you would find in a similar hotel in the UK.
The grounds were immaculately kept and landscaped with all manner of exotic plants.
The one big problem with the Hotel, however, was the lack of sunbeds. OK we went in the middle of August but they were about 75 beds short of having one available for everyone. To get one around in the ‘front’ row around the pool you had to be there at 5.30am (I heard some people claimed them at 3am) and ALL the beds were taken well before 9am every day…and not by Germans – by the English!!!!…Maybe they will get some more for next season.
