On arrival was greeted with a carrier bag of rubbish in our room (maid had probably forgotten to remove it). Bathroom floor hadn't been mopped and stray hairs in the bath. Also only 1 hand and 1 bath towel between the two of us.
POSITIVES - decent sized room with t.v. Clean comfy double bed. The room and bathroom were cleaned to satisfaction by the following day.
Nice bar and lounge area although bar opening times were restricted which was annoying as there wasn't anything else in the vicinity.
Gentleman at reception was extremely friendly and helpful.
Had to stay in this area of Manchester due to a hockey competition up the road, therefore the hotel served our needs. Also, cheap rates.

First offered a room with no bed in it!
Carpet being laid throughout the hotel, so there was a strong smell of glue. I did NOT appreciate being woken at 8 am by carpet fitters asking if I could let them into the room to refit the carpet ...... the ONE day in a year or so that I had decided to allow myself the luxury of sleeping as long as I naturally could.
Sanitary bag in the bathroom had been used and then rehung. DISGUSTING.
'Bar café' food overpriced and DISGUSTING. I have never eaten such an appaling burger - cold and stale. Breakfast overpriced at £7.50 for cold and greasy 'cooked' breakfast.
Manageress was necessarily apologetic for the points I raised. I told her that I didn't want compensation or a refund, just the assurance that other guests would not have the same disagreeable surprises. I believe that the chambermaid was a temp, and got shown the door.
