| said: As it was my 30th birthday at Christmas time, a group of us decided a trip to Stobo Castle was the best way to celebrate it. When phoning to book with 4 months notice we were only able to get a deluxe room and a classic room.
We arrived on the day and checked in right away. They took us through to the spa courtyard where we were meeting others staying with us for a late lunch. We got a bit mixed up in the cafe trying to add things to our room bills. But we had a lovely lunch before heading to get our rooms.
My friend and I were given the luxury of the Maitland Suite. We had a double bed each, lounge area and a lovely bathroom with Molton Brown bath and body products. My mum and friend were in the Montgomery room with gorgeous sleigh beds and stobo's own range of bath and bed products.
The others in our party were in the castle lodge and had a clean and tidy room which reminded me of a travel lodge room without the extra beds.
We had some treatments booked and we took advantage of the steam rooms and spa pools. Our only complaint was that there is only one mixed sex steam room meaning it could be along boring time for couples. The free towels were faboulous and it was great being in a dressing gown the whole weekend.
The treatments ran on time and were off a high standard. I managed to book 2 last minute ones too. My mum had a fabulous hot stone therapy massage. And another friend rated the reflexology very highly.
Dinner was a 3 course meal which was yummy but unless you are a wine drinker only expect water with your meal. After dinner we took coffee in the drawing room where my party had arranged a birthday cake which was a huge surprise. They are more than happy to take your cake and surprise you once coffee has arrived. They do advise not to light it in your room due to the smoke sensors.
After coffee we retreated to our room with everyone for snacks and some drinks. As it was cold the windowsill outside make a fantastic bar.
Early the next morning we were up and wideawake so off we headed to the pool for a swim and early morning steam. It was lovely to do before breakfast and then a fruit/cereal/hot breakfast. They offer to cook your eggs. If I were you take them up on it as the scrambled egg was disgusting.
Lunch I expected to be a buffet lunch but it was another 3 course lunch of soup or juice. then some cooked options or a buffet of salad and then puddings. All the food was gorgeous but too much for lunch.I would have slept all afternoon had I not gone home.
Check out was easy but busy. So it is advisable to try and do it as early as you can if you don't want to add anything on to your bill.
I hope to go back for a 2 night stay in the summer but the one night seemed rushed. Would possibly do a spa day too. But value for money and worth every penny for my 30th birthday.
