We can thoroughly recommend the Portelet Hotel. It is like stepping back in time and is extremely comfortable. The bathrooms and fittings are not very modern but we liked the fact that they are in keeping with the feel of the hotel. The service is fantastic and the atmosphere very relaxing.

The food is wonderful, and plentiful! with Silver Service in the lovely restaurant. The view is spectacular over a bay of sweeping sand with great sunsets. The waiters are very friendly and made our 11 year old daughter very welcome. There weren’t a lot of children in the Restaurant but the ones that did come into dinner were very well behaved so it was a relaxing atmosphere. The hotel also does early dinners for children if required.

The swimming pool is a good temperature, plenty big enough with good sunbeds around it. The view from the pool is again wonderful.

There is a tennis court, boules and a little putting green. Just a short walk away down a little lane is a nature reserve, some beautiful heather and this leads to the headland where the views are amazing.

We hired a car and found this useful although you can walk to the beach/pub if you don’t mind the climb back up.

There was a duo playing live music each night and a low key disco a couple of nights. There is also a pianist in the restaurant during dinner which is enjoyable.

A great hotel to stay in on Jersey
