The Rubicon was an excellent hotel and the food was even better. We paid extra for a sea view and what a room, we had our own balcony with seats and loungers with cushions so if we wanted privacy we had it. A car took us from the impressive receiption to our room as it is a complex of villa type buildings dotted around the sea front. There was plenty of sunbeds at all times and plenty of swimming pools to dunk in. The pool bar which served afternoon food was also fantastic. Beer and soft drinks on tap proper coke, tango etc.
The only bug was the courtesy room which was not a room but a row of showers and two sinks - not very private as was very busy even though booked a slot!

We all had a great time here the food was fantastic and hotel grounds were clean and the room was made spotless every day by the maids. A lot of Spanish people in the hotel for the first half of the week followed up by Brits in the second half. The only thing that let the hotel down was the entertainment (IMO) they catered for the Spanish moe so than the British and everything was repeated at the sametime every day with the same music so by the end of the week you knew the order of the songs!! All said and done we are already looking at booking again next year which is the first time i can say that about any other holiday-it was great!!!!

This is the 2nd time we have stayed here (May 2008 / August 2009) We enjoyed it the first time enough to return but have to say that it was even better the 2nd time due to the animation team being fantastic fun. They are worth their weight in gold... never a dull moment. You could join in whenever you wanted or have quiet time if you pleased. (Martin and Walter were like H10 Morcambe and Wise - very very funny together) The hotel was very clean, and spread out so you never felt it was too busy - even in august. The food as ever was fantastic, although some of the drinks were local brands (Gin was Gordons and Whiskey was Ballantines, however everything else was local unless you upgraded you AI to green band - an additional 9 euro pppd. The first week the ratio British / Spanish was about 50:50 and the second week 30:70 - so popular hotel with the Spanish too although good fun. Enjoyed so much will be returning again next summer.

My fiance & I went to this hotel at the start of January 09 & we had a fab time. Hotel grounds were absolutely beautiful, all spaced out very well. The food was great, always plenty to eat, I can be quite a fussy eater but I always found plenty to choose from & it was always superb! The staff were great too (apart from one grumpy bar manager, but I only ever saw him once!). Hotel was very clean & they keep the grounds very well, while we were there there was maintenance teams giving some areas a freshen up with paint (not that it interfered with our holiday at all). The entertainment team at this hotel were fantastic, seemed to work all day & always had a smile on their face. Then some nights they also put a show on, which was always very funny, & even seemed to keep both adults & kids amused. We will be returning later this year & plan to take the rest of our family. I would recommend it to anyone, they seemed to have something for all ages.

We spent Christmas and the New Year at the Rubicon Palace which we have stayed at three times before. Last year we stayed at the Timafray Palace also a H10 hotel. We have enjoyed our stay at both Hotels.
Each year we fill out forms for their H10 Club and each year nothing happens. No new card arrives, no points for our stays at the hotels and no benefits.
When we booked our holiday we asked for ground floor room but the room which had an excellent sea view had four flights of stairs to navigate in order to reach the dinning room. No good if you have a bad leg and asthma. They did change our room for one with only a few steps and a view over the pool.
Has anyone else had problems with their H10 cards or are they just a myth.

We were allocated a Club Palace room (due to problems encountered last year - see previous post). I can't really see a lot of difference in the rooms - the furnishings were slightly better and we had a samsung flat screen tv. We were also given free use of the fridge and some other benefits. The Club Palace rooms however, as they are so much closer to the sea get extremely windy and at times so much so you can not sit out on the balcony - our room last year was closer to the hotel and therefore more sheltered. Room was fine although a little squashed with two doubles and two singles (1 z bed and one chair convertible).

Food - can't see what people complain about - there is so much choice for breakfast lunch and dinner and usually of a good quality and staff always bringing out trays of more food - apart from last half hour when they start to maybe run out of some items. Although will cook you fresh fried eggs/pancakes/omlettes right up till end of breakfast time. We always had lunch in the main dining room (on the right) rather than the snacks from the pool bar. We got to the point during the second week when we actually didn't want to eat we were always so full!! No idea how you can get bored with so much choice - there are more items to choose from than on a normal restaurant menu!! Ok it may not all be 'English' but I like to try the various dishes that are a bit different - some I like some I don't - but never short of choice!

Entertainment - ok not quite west end but they tried their best and it was usually ok for the hour it lasted. Starlight Express was interesting but because majority of audience were Spanish not sure if they understood what was happening. Most entertainment was in fact in English. There was a magic show, Abba Mania, Brazilian Dancers, Quiz Nights etc.,

Sunbeds - as Grovee says it got busier during the second week of August although there were always sunbeds spare but not always with umbrellas. We usually stayed around the large pool as the boys loved playing in it and once they had acclimatised to the coolness (!) they stayed in there for hours!

There are a few tiles missing from around the pool area but I can't imagine what a hassle it would be to close the pools down for a week to do maintenance! Probably easier to put up with the few moans they may get!

I didn't have any problems with the spanish guests - they all seemed fine and some where even very polite and spoke to us. A couple of the men were infact very charming!

Not a day went by without seeing some maintenance happening - renewing the 'cactus beds', putting up new fencing around the perimeter, replacing light fittings, window cleaning, sweeping, repairing.

The Directors of the hotel were often seen in the general areas inspecting and were totally friendly and would say hello and chat.

For the amount of people passing through I think they do an amazing job. The receptionists were always courteous and pleasant, the bellboy that took us to our room always waved every time he saw us after that, every member of staff who passed you along the paths wished you an 'hola' or buenos dias - or some other greeting.

We usually sat in the same area of the restaurant and Yilda the waitress would always be so pleasant and brought us our coffee without us having to ask for it. Always ensured we had enough cutlery and napkins.

We encountered the odd large bug/beetle/insect and even had a lizard visit our room - but this is a hot country and these are to be expected. I have ants in my back garden and flies sometimes come in to my house - so I am not surprised when I encounter these abroad. I either ask for spray or go and buy my own to deal with them.

We would definitely go back. I would recommend this hotel to all.

We arrived at the Rubicon Palace around 10pm at night and from the bus it looked very impressive. Walking in through the doors the reception is to your right hand side. We were checked in very quickly and efficiently and our upgrade to All Inclusive was very smooth. Within around 10 minutes we were walked to our room with a staff member who was very informative about when the pool bar opened and closed. There is a safe in the room which costs 30€ for 2 weeks with a 6€ deposit. Towels can also be hired for 10€ and cost 50 cents to change them.

Walking in to our room we were more than happy with the 2 double beds and chair bed. My in-laws room had a king-size bed and a fold away bed. Although we should have had a garden view and some people would have complained we had a very nice view of the sea and the walk to the beach and could see the playa flamingo beach from our rooms too. The rooms were bright and looked fresh and were very clean and the maids did a good job every day. There are fridges in the rooms which can be hired for 3€ a day or you order 6 drinks from the mini bar instead.

We headed to the pool bar for something to eat and we weren't too impressed by the sight of hot dogs and hamburgers and chips. But we found toasties and a toastie machine and got some water. The deputy manager stopped to speak to us and welcomed us and explained how the pool bar at 10.30 had more hot dishes etc.

We set about exploring the next morning. There are 2 restaurants to eat in. Having tried both, the one on the side next to the toilets and to the steps seems to have less choice and wasn't that great. We mostly ate in the other restaurant where we found much more choice and happier staff. I know a lot of people have complained about the food and people did complain in the airport queue but I thought I had fussy children but having spoken to others it appears mine aren't so fussy when it comes to food. There is always soup, chips, pasta with a wide range of choices for fish. chicken, pork. They do have a wide selection of fruit at all meals but Puddings aren't spectacular. For breakfast made to order omelettes are available and the pancakes were lovely. My only complaint was the kids buffet, the tongs got very hot and on 2 occasions I burnt myself painfully. But otherwise the food was pretty good.

There are plenty of pools and the first week we had no problems at any time getting beds but just towards the end of the holiday our nice quiet pool seemed to be full of people. You could always get a sunbed but not necessarily in the shade or with a parasol. But the pools were regularly cleaned and yes they were cold but get yourself under and it could be a lovely refreshing swim. All around the hotel you constantly found cleaning staff or maintanence staff. In fact one night we had a power cut until 1am. Thank goodness for mobile phones and nintendo ds's to get round the hotel.

We didn't discover the spa until the end of the holiday but some lovely treatments were to be had. The actual spa cost 15€ to go in and had a range of things to relax you as a Turkish bath steam room, Sauna, Jacuzzi, Pebble Walk and relaxation rooms. The idea's are fantastic but sadly the pool had some missing tiles and I feel a refurbishment for new tiles and a lick of paint wouldn't go astray. They have a kids hour for 5€ per person. Beware though some parents deliberately send their child in with you making it look like you have 2 children with you when really you only have one because the child wants to go in but not the parents. We had that situation and it was only because I queried why we had 4 towels and I hadn't got 5€ change.

My only complaint about the hotel is that the Spanish really have it in for Brits and can be down right rude and there were a few fights in the taxi queues between the Spanish who felt it was their right to walk into a taxi that the brits had ordered. Standing in the bus queue for a while was very interesting viewing in the taxi queue. We found all the staff to be fine and we made an effort to speak Spanish and got served with ease as well as smiles. So learn how to order your drinks in Spanish and all will be ok there.

The entertainment team always made a good effort. They regularly spoke to our children outwith the clubs and the entertainment and the shows may have been "that anyone can sing along to a tape!" but take a moment to look at all the choreography that Erika and her team put in and they really work hard for the 12 hours they provide entertainment. They don't force you to join in, but they make things fun.

Nearly every night there are stalls of some sort in the foyer next to the restaurants. Saturday/Wednesday is market nights and mostly jewellery stalls the rest of the week.

We really enjoyed our 2 weeks. The first night I wasn't sure but there is so much to do round about the hotel as well as kids clubs (we rarely used as they weren't run the way I'd want them to be run but that's a professional thing with me), the golf, tennis courts and play park. It's a short walk to the rock pools as well as about 40 minutes to an hour into playa Blanca. The most we every paid for a taxi was 4€.

I'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and believe a holiday is what you make it and it was a really good holiday which all 6 of us enjoyed.

went to this hotel with an open mind after reading the reviews on here, like we have done in the past.
You walk into the hotel and it is very impressive. But look a litle further and you'll see how tired it is

Reception

was very rushed the receptionist couldn't wait to book us in and get rid of us. gave us a scrappy bit of paper to say where the AI was allowed and a badly photocopied bit of paper trying to encourage you to upgrade to a better AI blue band, and telling you what you're allowed to have and not allowed in AI.
she pointed us to our room and that was it, next.No have a nice time or anything. On checking out handed over our keys and safe key gave us our deposit back and walked away, no goodbye nothing very un welcoming.

Followed her instructions at to where our room was long walk away from the lift on the seventh floor.
bedroom were clean but very dated, two large beds and a put me up for our 13 year old son, and a balcony with two chairs and a table with a nice view.
beds however were very very very hard. Bathroom was large, howver felt very dusty and a bit grubby, The maid cleaned our room very well.

Fodd was ok in snack bar by pool time it right and you get fresh pizza's but they go very quickly. A little tip, buy a bottle of water in the supermarket up the road and fill this up with the free water for your room, don't get bottles of water.

food in restaurants well presented an lots to choose from, included stuff for diabetics and some diet bread seed nuts etc. but can understand how people have said it would get boring. Waiters were ok but two mornings for breakfast there was no coffee and they just shrugged there shoulders and walked away. couple of the plates were cracked and dirty.

The entertainment is a joke the worst I've seen, spent most of our nights in the piano bar, which was not a lot better, however it was easier for us as it was near the pc where our son spent every evening on the internet, as there was nothing for him to do.
One day we did take a look at the teen club, supposed to be archery but they were playing chase (my son is 13 not 6)

The pools are impressive, and on most internet sights you see them all lovely and blue and empty, that is because they are so cold, they don't even warm up in the afternoon only went in once or twice, also watch around the pools tiles missing and quite slippery cos of the scum around the edges. Also by the poolside snack bar, you can see where the food and debris from there gets blown into yep the pool.
plenty of subeds loads of them so no worries there not a lot of umbrellas

the hotel was full of spanish and only really geared to them ,
The hotel is huge and spread out, but not much to do or see.
there are a few bars a couple of minutes from the hotel that you could walk to.

there is a little rocky bay outside the hotel that is great for snorkling

We caught the free bus to the town, not much to do there either.
On the whole very disappointed.
I quite but my finger on it, nothing wrong with the place but nothing right with it either
would not reccomend this hotel to my friends or family

We were in a club palace room but not on the black band. So didn't have the perks but to be honest you didn't need them. Our rm was ground floor overlooking sea to Feurteventura (rm 1112)great fpr 2 5year olds as no balcony drops to worry about. It had 2 double beds and a fold down bed, huge bathroom. Maid service was ok but floor could have been done better. Hotel was lovely very clean. Food was very good pizzas in snack bar at lunchtime were great. One of our little boys went to the mini club he was the only British kid there but he loved it and the staff were amazing. Entertainment was good. There were tribute nights where the staff dressed up and sang along to grease abba etc but they put their hearts and souls into it. Some of the best animation teams i've seen in a long time. We were lucky to be there the night Spain won Euro 2008 and the atmosphere was electric wouldn't have missed it for the world. Reception staff were always helpful and polite. Restauratn staff were lovely great with the kids. Overall a great holiday so much so we got back Thrusday and booked again on Saturday for next year.

“beware the black band brigade…”

We came here in 2005 and we loved it then but now the attention to detail has slipped abit. Don’t let that put you off if you have booked to go here we enjoyed our time here but there were a couple of things that need attention.

The hotel itself is still as impressive and clean as ever but you can see signs of wear and tear and things like the central hand rail going up a set of stairs from the 2nd to 4th floor is wobbly. However they are having a refurbishment program some walls were being painted and a whole block of club palace rooms were out of action because they were being redone so they do seem to be addressing the decoration of the place.

We had a nice room which was spacious enough for us and a view of the sea so no complaints on that score although the first week we were there the room was not cleaned that well – the floor was never swept but we didn’t feel it was worth complaining about but the 2nd week we obviously had a different cleaner as the room was actually swept properly.

The food is the best thing about this hotel there is a wide enough choice for all tastes and the theme nights add something different to the mix. There is a separate kids buffet which usually consists of fish/chicken nuggets, chips and some sort of pasta dish apart from the variety on offer on the main buffet. The pancakes and omelettes at breakfast went down well as did the assorted Danish pastries and cakes! You help yourself to drinks at lunch and dinner which are soft drinks, beer, sangria, red, white and rose wine and tea/coffee/fruit juice at breakfast. I don’t drink coffee so don’t know how well it works but coffee seemed to served in flasks left on the tables at breakfast but you could also get coffee out of the machines.

The pool bar does food most of the day - sandwiches, cakes and icecream are available most of the time. We had lunch in the pool bar a couple of times which is the usual burgers, hotdogs etc which are fine for a snacky lunch by the pool but if you can time it right they do lovely pizzas but you have to be lucky enough to get there just as they put them out as they don’t last long.

Drinks at the pool bar are available from 10am you serve yourself soft drinks, hot drinks and juice but have to ask for anything alcoholic.

Now I will get to the reason for this title of this review…unfortunately there is now a very obvious class system due to the colour band you wear around your wrist. Yellow is normal all inclusive, blue for people who have upgraded to get premium drinks and black for club palace. All I can say is its unfortunate that the extra money spent on getting club palace rooms and a black band is not spent on politeness and courtesy lessons for the people wearing them – not only to the unfortunate staff who were expected to jump to their commands but to their “less fortunate” fellow guests. One lunchtime we came into the main restaurant to find that there was no table big enough (we were a party of 5) to seat us partly because some selfish people who were only in couples or a group of 3 had taken tables set for 6…and you guessed it those people were wearing black bands so the staff obviously hadn’t dared asked them to move when they pounce on normal people asking “how many sitting?” before they let you sit down. we had even tried to catch the eye of a waiter for help and he just shrugged and indicted the terrace area where there was a big table in the corner where we could sit. but it was obvious when we sat down from the insolent stares of the other diners nearby that it was supposed to be a club palace only section but there were no signs up to indicate this (although signs did appear later in the week) and we really had nowhere else to sit but then had to sit and eat our lunch while trying to ignore the stares from a fellow diner even though my family were sat quietly and eating their lunch properly which was more than can be said for some of the other diners table manners. The waiter also looked quite surprised to receive a thankyou from us for clearing our plates from the table and judging by the way he was spoken to by other people in there I would guess he doesn’t get thanked very often…Im not trying to tar all of you black band people with the same brush its just unfortunate that a few snobby people let down the rest.

The waiters in the restaurant were mostly fine but can sometimes be a little slow in clearing plates although they all up their game on Wednesday nights which also happens to be the night that customer surveys are left on the tables. The waiters are also not above a bit of bribery on Wednesday nights giving out balloons and lollipops to all the kids there in the hope of getting a “good” tick on the survey!! We found this more amusing than annoying though and our girls were not complaining as they got balloons and lollipops!

The rest of the staff were fine, reception staff were helpful and polite and the kids club staff were very good too, especially when you realise the hours they put in not only doing kids club but most of the other entertainment around the hotel. My girls enjoyed the mini disco every night even though the routine never really changed but that was good in a way as it meant they learnt the routines.

To sum up – it is still a good, clean, comfortable 4* hotel with great food and we would happily go back there tomorrow if we could as we did enjoy ourselves and the little niggles were not enough to spoil our holiday in any way

The hotel is huge and very well designed. The only downfall is that the rooms are in need of decoration due to being tired and used. However i saw a programme of decoration occuring whilst we were there. Dont let the size of the hotel put you off beacuse there are ample pools and eating areas. there is no issues with sunbeds has no one seems to book them at 6 in the morning.

The hotel food was the best I have had and we have completed 7 AI holidays. Plenty of choice and they cater for special requests. The dinning areas are very clean and staff excellent.

Altough this hotel is a majority of spanish guests, mthere are a high percentage of Brits. The AI package is excellent and well worth the extra especialay if you have kids as they tend to eat and drink all day.

I would recommended this to anyone but ensure you hire a car to see the sites. There is a hire car company based in the hotel with reasonable rates of 35 Euro a day.

we would definatley use the H10 chain again.

Walked in and the foyer/reception is massive. Having read some reports expected reception staff to be rude and surley but they were the complete opposite – very nice and helpful. They gave us all the info about the hotel that we needed. Bellboy took us to our room on the golf buggy. Massive room – well actually a suite. Two rooms with large archway between the two – massive double bed for us, sofa put you up for boys. Bathroom large, two sinks, and the usual other facilities. Boys not happy about sleeping in same bed so requested an extra put you up which we got without any problems (although a slight delay before it came). Asked for more pillows – delivered no problem.

Went to the pool bar for something to eat as it was mid afternoon – very nice. At this point we wondered if we should upgrade from half board to a.i. as hotel quite out of the way and seem very geared up for a.i. Checked prices – 18e per adult 9e per child – per day. So following morning we upgraded.

That evening went in to the walk in wardrobe and got wet. Looked up – water pouring through the roof. Immediately contacted reception about it. Maintenance man came who was brilliant (and others subsequently)Extremely friendly and helpful. He tried to sort it but it was a problem with the piping not draining away properly – anyway – we had this problem four times and hotel were very good. They laundered all our wet clothes free of charge. They offered to move us but I really liked the room – had the afternoon sun and no wind, was nice and quiet and near to mum and the others – so in the end they let us have some fans and we stopped using the a.c. No idea if the problem was ever solved but hey ho! As compensation they have given us a voucher for 20% off next time we use the hotel and also free vouchers to use the spa and hyrdrotherapy pools…. Which we used and it was lovely.

Hotel is massive – over 800 rooms but so well laid out you wouldn’t know it was ever full.

A lot of Spanish in the hotel – most of whom were very nice but as in all countries you get those that you are not so keen on! They did tend to sit on top of you around the pool where as we British ‘like our own space’. We could have moved to quieter pools but they would have been more awkward for mum to get to restaurants and toilets etc., I probably pushed in more than they did in the queues for food – gave them a sweet smile and an ‘excuse me’ grabbed what I wanted and went! Probably on some Spanish hotel review site are a few words about the rude blonde British woman!

Food – absolutely lovely – probably the best we have ever had. Plentiful and then more.

Ants – there were a few ant nests but maid always had spray on her trolley and with a ‘por favor’ I picked it up and sprayed to my hearts content and then returned it to the trolley with a ‘gracias’….

Cleanliness – maids and maintenance are always around always doing something.

Rooms – are a bit on the drab side and need to be updated/refurnished and this is the only thing that really lets it down. Things like : plug came off chain in bathroom, some grouting hanging off mirror in bathroom, wobbly towel rail on wall, some rust around bath, headboard could do with replacing, some sockets didn’t work (although more than we needed), fridge door a bit dodgy, – etc., these to my mind take it from what could be a 4* to a 3*. Having worked in the hotel business these would not be acceptable in a 4* hotel and would be sorted straight away. The colour scheme of blue and yellow in the bathroom is very dated – they should stick to classic white,

Drinks – on the ai menu you would probably have trouble getting drunk if you drank solid for 14 days and nights but hey ho! We bought a bottle of Baileys from supermarket and had a glass in the room each night. Although the wine and sangria in the restaurants were very good (from a total non wine expert!)

Beds were comfortable but noisy – no idea what was in them but it woke you every time you turned over.

Trips – we hired a car – and did the usual trips in Lanzarote – it was hard to keep going for three days there really isn’t that much to see and do. Hubby booked a separate trip for him and the boys to go out sea fishing for the day which they loved and he had the biggest catch of the day (apart from me!)

If you could pick up the hotel and all their staff and put it in Menorca we would definitely be returning but we will not be going back to Lanzarote – a case of seen it, done it and although it was nice, didn’t have enough magic for us to return.

Hotel is quite a way out of playa Blanca but we did the walk a few times fairly easily. Meant to hire one of those electric bikes but never got around to it.

Mum found it a bit difficult getting around the complex although no need to use steps it is quite vast.

Hotel now has wi-fi!

Entertainment – didn’t really join in this year (unusually!). Just never really got the urge. Didn’t like the show the evening we went in – people were waiting to jump in your seats as soon as you moved. Had to get in fairly early to get a seat and as we always had dinner late we didn’t bother. Went to piano bar had a drink and then bed…. And still couldn’t get up in the mornings!

Hello all. We stayed at the H10 Rubicon Palace for 2 weeks in May. I honestly cant fault anything about this hotel.
We stayed all inclusive and apart from extras outside of the hotel, we didnt have to spend any extra money.

The hotel was perfectly clean with maids coming into our rooms everyday and cleaning them from top to bottom.

The buffet resturaunt had a great selection of food every day. If your a lover of veal you had the choice of that every day.

The location of the hotel was lovely. Your right on the edge of the island. Although there wasnt really a beech where we were. there was a long promanade that went as far as the eye could see.

The hotel staff were ok. They didnt really speak much english which ment we struggled abit when asking for help. The animation team were so friendly and happy to help. I felt like they took that extra mile to make our holiday one to remember.

During the day the entertainment was ok. Not to in your face, but they gave you the option to take part in games and stuff.

Of a night the entertainment picked up. With the minidisco for the kids, then the adult shows and entertainment.

Me and my family enjoyed this holiday so much that where preparing to book in july for a futher to weeks. So I better start saving up.

We arrived at the Rubicon Place at the beginning of the Easter holidays, with a bit of anxiety after reading some of the reviews, but I must say we all had a fantastic time.

The hotel was very clean with the rooms being cleaned daily, and the maids left chocolates on the beds, weather forecasts for the following day and swan shaped towels in the bathroom!

Our room had a lovely sea view and we had lovely views looking over to Fuerteventura. We knew that the hotel was a little bit out of Playa Blanca, but were a bit surprised quite how far, however there is a hotel courtesy bus which leaves hourly, and a good coastal path which takes you to the centre of Playa Blanca and also down to the new marina, it is possible to do, but it is a long walk. We tried it on a cloudy morning but by the time we got into Playa Blanca the sun was shining and it was very hot so we got a taxi back, which only cost about 3 euros.

The staff were very friendly and helpful not only to the spanish holiday makers but to everyone, especially the animation team, which I must say work extremely hard, they try and get people involved on the daytime activities but were not offended if you said no.

This was the first time we had gone All Inclusive, and the standard of the food in the restaurant was very high, although after a fortnight it did become a bit repetitive. Also, the men should be prepared to wear long trousers everynight, as shorts and 3/4 lengths are not allowed. The first week the hotel was quite full and so both of the restaurants were open, however the second week was a bit quieter and so only one restaurant was open, so breakfast and dinner became a bit of a free for all!

We ate our meals out in the terrace which was quieter and more relaxed as you didn't have everyone walking past you trying to get to their food. My only disappointment was the snacks throughout the day - they were extremely limited - you had a choice of 3 different types of sandwiches, 3 different pots of ice cream and a cake and that was it, and when lunch was being served in the restaurant the snacks were taken away, so you had to go into the restaurant, I must admit I was expecting more choice ie chips, hotdogs, burgers etc which you could get in the restaurant but not as snacks throughout the day.

The hotel provide pool towels for everyone, which was really handy, and cost 50cents per towel to be exchanged for a clean one, and even though you're not supposed to reserve beds everyone does!

Quite a few people we met had been staying at the Rubicon Palace for years, and mentioned that standards had slipped, but as it was our first time staying there we were really impressed, but if you looked really closely there were a few things that needed attention to make it perfect!

My family would definately visit the Rubicon again

Hotel itself is very impressive quite large with a few swimming pools plus a Spa centre. They was a small kids club plus a couple of playgrounds. Entertainment staff were fab as were the bar and restuarant staff. The food was very good with lots of choice and of a good standard. The rooms were the only thing that lets this Hotel down. They were quite shabby and in need of updating but apart from that would recommend this Hotel.

We booked this hotel for a weeks break, having stayed at similar standard hotels previously.

On reflection, we enjoyed our stay and on the whole this hotel was as billed in the brochure, cleanliness was OK.

The rooms were kept clean on a daily basis.

The pool area was in need of cleaning prior to guests taking up their places for the day, in doing so there is no need to clean around you. I know that most of the rubbish, I include cigarette butts, are discarded by the guests but a rearrangement of cleaning times would sort this out.

I do agree with other comments that the staff are geared up for Spanish guests but never the less they were curtious and helped when asked. As for the comment that Spanish guest push in during meal times, well so does everybody else, it's the way the buffet is set out, would you wait behind other people walking along a line of food if you only wanted one item at the end, Not likely!

We were disappointed with the AI bar, suggestions that you get only locally produced drinks is rubbish, you don't even get that, there are plenty of spanish drinks that are not part of the package and the bar staff needed to enjoy their work. Whilst in Mexico last year the bar staff were always smiling and looked as if they enjoyed their work, maybe this would result in a good tip at the end of your stay, but this lot, I wouldn't give a cold to let alone a tip, and it's not the language because I speak fluent Spanish.

This Hotel is OK as a one off and I do recommend it to others, personally I wouldn't go back.

Very disappointed with this hotel. Arrived at our expected time but had to wait for two and a half hours before our room was ready although they did give us a meal ticket to pass some of the time. Very large room with two double beds for party of 2. However, walls had dirty marks and damp patches and not all the electrical sockets or lights worked.

Food was good and plenty of it but was very repetitive. Restaurant was clean but had cracked and dirty crockery. Free water at all meals.

It is a brisk 20 minute walk to nearest supermarket, seems further when you are carrying water. Beautiful beach at Playa Dorada, about 45 minute walk. You have to watch your feet as hotel has lots of different levels. Some areas had 2 or 3 inch unexpected drop, enough to jar you or stub your toes coming the other way.

Staff at reception were not particularly helpful. Whole hotel seemed very unfriendly and cold. There were exceptions and must mention our waitress Elena who was delightful.

Piano bar was nice but other entertainment seemed to be mainly for the kids until 10.00pm, then some sort of game (mainly in Spanish)for another 30 minutes before the animation team came on. Played pool on a few occasions but sometimes balls had been mixed up and tables weren't level.

Definately wouldn't visit again and don't think it is 4 star standard.

What a fantastic hotel! We had no complaints about anything. Everywhere is sparkling clean, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and there are small touches which make your stay even more pleasant. For example, they give you towels to use by the pool so you don't have to use your own, the cleaner used to leave us fresh flowers in our room every day and the waiters in the restaurant were friendly and worked very quickly to ensure that tables were not left with dirty plates etc after people had finished their meal. They have a courtesy room you can use if you have a late flight as you have to be out of your room by 12pm. We left our luggage in their safe room, stayed by the pool using the hotel towels, then went to reception who gave us the key to the courtesy rooms. The rooms (1 for men, 1 for women) have 4 shower cubicles, a bath, toilet, hairdryers, plentiful sachets of shower gel, shampoo etc. The rooms like the rest of the hotel are spotlessly clean. It's great you can spend all day by the pool and then use the hotel facilities to get showered and changed ready for your flight - I have never experienced this in a hotel before.

The pools are great, some of them have waterfalls which the children loved. They are clean and safe. By the main pool is a large enclosed pool bar where every day lunch consisting of burgers, hot dogs, pizza, salads, sandwiches etc are prepared if people don't want to go into the main restaurant. There is a freezer full of ice cream that you help yourself to as well as plates of melon and other fruit. You help yourself to water, coke, fanta etc as well as coffee and tea from machines. Bar staff serve you with beer and/or spirits.

The food was great. There was a chef carving meat from freshly cooked joints, then there was a further chef who cooked the "theme" of the day, eg on chinese night he cooked special fried rice, prawn crackers and chow mien. Then there is the buffet which has a huge selection of meats, fish, vegetable dishes. Then there's the salad bar filled with fresh salad along with coleslaw's, pasta salads etc, jugs of olives, salad dressings etc. There was a bread section where there were loaves of fresh bread and rolls which you cut yourself along with bottles of olive oil, garlic cloves and fresh tomatoes so you could do as the Spanish do and rub the garlic and tomatoes on the bread before drizzling with the olive oil - delicious! The desserts were great too. There was always a selection of lovely pastries, creme brulee type dishes, platters of fresh melon, pineapple, kiwi etc, there was 3 different types of ice cream and always a hot dessert such as rice pudding or crepe Suzette. I've seen on this site that people complained there were no "children's food" such as chicken nuggets - well I think that's great! My children are fairly fussy but always found something they were happy to eat.

I have also read on this site that the Spanish guests get priority and if you are not Spanish you have to queue up for ages to get your drinks - absolute rubbish! We never had to queue for more than a few minutes for a drink and always found the bar staff extremely friendly. There were a lot of Spanish guests and I have to agree that the game shows and quizzes are a bit biased in their favour but then it's no big deal. The entertainment staff were the hardest working animation team I have ever encountered. They put on shows such as Grease, We will rock you, The lion king - which meant they basically acted out the shows in great costumes, miming to the song tracks but great fun. The professional shows brought in to the hotel were great - a really fun clown show, an Earth, Wind and Fire tribute act who were amazing and other shows such as a dancing show, a parrot show etc. Entertainment was great. Even if you don't like the entertainment you can go upstairs to the Piano Bar where there was a great duo singing and playing guitars.

I could go on and on about this hotel. We had a fantastic time and had no complaints about anything - apart from the weather which tended to be a bit cloudy and the "light breeze" was in fact sometimes a gale (but then nobody can be held accountable for the weather!). I forgot to say the rooms are in low buildings dotted around the place which makes the complex feel very spacious and uncrowded. Lovely rooms with huge bathrooms and lovely clean towels changed by the maid on a daily basis.

The hotel runs a courtesy bus to the Lanzarote Princess hotel about 4 times a day. This is great as the Princess is only a short walk from lots of shops and the marina. Be aware, nobody queues for the coach and when it arrives it's every man for himself! To recap, this is a fantastic hotel, very clean, spacious, great entertainment, great food - what more could you want?

Just returned from this holiday on the 10th july, and would like to say how great this hotel is. Myself and my partner went with two friends.

We have stayed at three 4* hotels and this one over shadows the other two by miles. The reception staff, entertainment team and restrurant staff were extremely helpful and welcoming and always said ola when passing.

The food was very nice with different meats being cooked every night by request. There were theme nights also in alternate resturants. The hotel is unfortunate not to have a beach outside although there are 2 small beaches 1 either side that can be sun bathed on or the sea is accessable but the main beach is about 20-25 minute walk away which for us was I nice stroll.

The snorkelling at this beach is really good as there are lots of bigger and more colourfull fish around the rockery.

The hotel entertainment was good, the game shows tend to be a bit sided towards the spanish but most of the actual shows are English i.e. 'we will rock u' and grease.

The cleaners were also polite even though most do not speak English but do say hello when passing. The reception staff were very helpful as they book several excursions for us as we were unable to find any excursion shops. The animation team also speak a range of languages.

The hotel is a spectacular sight. The main reception area is enormous with internet access (1euro for 10 mins) and a bar which has live piano and singers of an evening with and outside view of the pool and across to fuetuventura.

The next level down houses the entertainment room of the evening. The next level houses the 2 resturants that are for the half board and all inclusive customers.

Constantly through the day there are staff watering the plants, checking the pool water condition which I have never seen before, on one instance they drained one of the baby pools and refilled also they are always cutting the grass or the trees and generally maintaining the complex.

The pool bar serves burgers, hot dogs, chips etc at lunch time.

The room was spacious and cleaned to a high stanard.

Absolute fabulous hotel will definately go back looking a booking for November.

This was our second stay two week stay at The Rubicon Palace, having stayed there for the exact same weeks last year.

Whilst this hotel is still a very nice there were several things that we felt the standards had slipped in and although we still had a lovely holiday we felt the hotel had lost a bit of its gloss and perhaps needed a bit of umph to bring it back up to it’s 4 stars.

The food itself is plentiful and the quality is very good – however it is very, very repetitive. The two restaurants themselves now no longer seem to observe the dress rules for the evening (men long trousers/shirt) as they did last year and we saw lots of people in shorts.

The restaurant staff, although extremely busy, were always very courteous and efficient and one waiter in particular (we should have taken his name) could never do enough and really went that extra mile with all the guests).

The restaurant was very busy, very noisy and full of people pushing and shoving. One thing in particular we really did not like was the fact that there were now birds flying through the open windows of the restaurant and depositing their wares on tables/floors (in the main restaurant), we were horrified to find that in the pool bar a member of staff was actually putting large pieces of cake onto a table to attract the birds – and it attracted plenty of them.

The bar staff – again very busy – always seemed to serve the Spanish guests before the English, the Spanish guests we found to be very rude and certainly didn’t like to queue for anything – at reception, the bar, the reception, waiting for lifts, anywhere!

We were also a little disappointed when we tried to order a packed lunch for the following day and were told that they were no longer available.

Whilst the hotel and grounds were clean we felt they could have done with a real spring clean, the canopy’s in reception could have done with a good dust and the toilets in the common parts only seemed to be cleaned twice a day (early morning and afternoon), as you can imagine by the end of the evening there was often no soap or toilet roll left and they weren’t in a very pleasant state due to the number of guests staying. The ladies toilet by the pool bar didn’t even have a soap dispenser, it had been ripped from the wall.

We were a little surprised that we had to pay €30 to hire the safe in our room for two weeks and to use the mini bar just as a fridge there was a charge of €3 a day – we felt this was a little steep and wouldn’t have expected these extra charges in a 4 star hotel.

Our room, whilst very spacious with a lovely sea view was infested with ants – we woke up one morning with them crawling on us. We asked house keeping to spray the room (twice) but we ended up buying a spray ourselves to keep them at bay. We also had a nasty sewage smell in the bathroom.

The pools and grounds themselves are spectacular and spotlessly clean, with plenty of sunbeds (we never had a problem finding one) but they do need more umbrellas. Although the hotel has signs everywhere saying it is forbidden to reserve the sun beds nobody observes this.

One thing that we really did feel had improved from last year was the entertainment – it was a completely new animation team and they were much friendlier and more organised than last year. Don’t miss their “We Will Rock You” and “Broadway” shows – spectacular. There were also outside entertainers, on the whole these were also very good.

I just came back from the Rubicon and would just like to comment on how wonderful it was. I am from Canada and from what I gather, there are a few people who are very hard to please.

Not all spanish people are rude or pushy perhaps it's a cultural thing that some have failed to notice. I have done my fair share of travelling and this resort is top notch for being a 4*.

Food excellent, resort is large, keep and open mind and you'll have a relaxing vacation as that is why you leave your country right??

We have just returned from the rubicon palace having spent a week there,we arrived at the rubicon having upgraded from another complex.

The hotel itself was very clean the rooms were cleaned regularly on one occasion the maid had taken the time to bleach our travel cups (tip here take your own travel kettle as none was provided). We never saw one cockroach during our whole stay at the rubicon.

The hotel is quite large but it is laid out in seperate blocks all accompanied with their own pool.

The hotel itself is a colonial style with contemporary decor to the rooms, which were quite spacious containing two double beds.

The food was fantastic, lots of variety fish, meats, pizza, salads, pasta, and chefs cooking fresh food on the themed evenings, the chinese was delicious my daughter especially enjoyed the fresh pancakes cooked in the morning.

The drinks were fine with a good choice although if your not used to drinking ice cold red wine this may come as a shock.(if you ask they will bring room temp wine).

The location was at the far end of the resort a bit away from playa blanca around 50 mins walk to the centre, but their is a pleasant walkway which runs alongside the sea.

For the less energetic there is a free bus running a few times a day.

The staff were very friendly and the entertainment team worked very hard to keep the guests happy. Any paella fans can enter a paella making competition which was good fun to watch.

Entertainment was very good compared to other hotels we have been to,which included a parrot show,a brazilian dance group, and various other shows.

The room where the entertainment was held was spacious and had waiter service.
We had a brilliant stay at the rubicon palace and would go back tommorow.

ps Its up to you if you want to pack your towels but they are available as the hotel provides you with a coupon to exchange for a pool towel.

We cannot fault this hotel, the staff were very friendly, the rooms were cleaned every day to a very high standard, the food we superb, catering for every possible taste.

I do feel however the location may put some people off as it is situated out of the main part of the resort. This we found this to be a bonus as it we quiet.

The one thing I do feel lets this (and many other hotels down) is having to pay for the use of a safe and fridge. I find this a little petty when one has paid a lot of money for a holiday.

I cannot comment on the entertainment as we did not see any, but the entertainment team seemed to work very hard keeping both children and adults happy.

We would visit this hotel again. One little tip, take a travel kettle with you, we find it to be invaluable.

Having previously stayed in H10 hotels, I was very attracted to the Rubicon Palace and had recommended it to the friends that we were travelling with. Check in and arrival was satisfactory.

Our room was lovely and clean, and had a nice view, no complaints so far. Our friends unfortunately who were staying on level 6, had a terrible smell in their room and outside their room, so much so that the next day they were moved to the other side of the complex. This smell became more apparent as we moved around the hotel, so bad infact that we had to cover our nose & mouth in certain areas of the hotel. I complained to reception and they stated something must have broken somewhere??? and basically were not interested.

The food in the hotel was average and we ended up eating out most night as it tended to be the same style every night, and the cockroaches were a bit off putting.

The service in the piano bar was a hit or a miss sometimes efficient or they would ignore us! We were on a half board package but the bar staff still served us our drinks in plastic cups and charged us full price!

I can't recall ever seeing our tour rep, luckily I had been to the resort before so I knew my way about.

On a positive note the Health Spa in the hotel complex was first class.

I would not rush back to the Rubicon Palace and as far as H10 hotels are concerned I was very disappointed on this occasion.

We stayed as a group of 3 in the Rubicon Palace from 25/08/05 - 08/09/05.

First impressions of the Rubicon Palace are excellent. A grand reception hall with beautiful views of the sea and fueterventura.

The hotel is generally kept clean with daily visits from room maids. We did see lots of cockroaches at night, but only 1 in our room during the whole of the 2 weeks. We were in a room close to one of the smaller pools which is better as you don't get as much noise as from the main pool which was a 30 second walk away. The rooms are an excellent size and easily fit 3 adults in.

The pools never get too busy and we were always able to find a sun lounger no matter what time of day it was.

We chose the all-inclusive option and the food, with the exception of the cold buffet at the pool bar which was infested with flies, was excellent. Lots of variation and themed nights throughout the week and the drinks, with the exception of the beer, were good too.

The Rubicons location is at the far end of Playa Blanca with the closest shops about a 20 min walk away along the sea front. Definitely the right place if you are looking for a relaxing holiday, but not if you like to have the shops (and proper beach) on your doorstep. If you do want to go into Playa Blanca get the courtesy bus provided free by the hotel. The walk along the sea front is nice, but can be difficult in the heat.

The worst part of the hotel is the entertainment which is geared towards the Spanish guests. All the other comments about Spanish people pushing in queues, being quite rude and getting served 1st are true.

That said, overall we had an enjoyable 2 week stay and would go back. Definitely the place to relax and unwind in beautiful surroundings.

We stayed here from Aug 8-22nd and overall have no particular complaints. The hotel rooms were cleaned every day and the head maid called once a week to ask if there were any problems (and to leave a carnation for the ladies and sweets for the kids).

The food is of excellent quality and you can always find something you like. Does get a bit boring after a fortnight but you can't please everyone. Spanish people do tend to just get a plate and push in wherever they like which was a bit annoying but as they say 'when in Rome' so just do as they do any no one seems to mind.

Location nice and quite but if you wish to travel into Playa Balnca resort it is a good 30 mins walk or a 3 euro taxi ride (about £2). Beach is spitting distance away and if you buy snorkels and masks there are fish near you as soon as you look under water. Scuba schools here but 10 Euro's for a mask and you see just as much as they do.

I must agree however that the hotel staff do tend to favour Spanish clients over any others but only until you are nearing the end of your stay and they think they are more likely to get a tip. Evening entertainment was ok and the animacion teams are great (Hola Pablo Picasso)hotel tends to rely on balancing acts etc so if you stay here ensure that you either like geezers balancing bikes on their heads or make alternative entertainment for your evenings.

All said and done we had a really good holiday, very relaxing and hot, plenty to do and main pool was fantastic and generally empty. If I had to recommend a hotel to stay in in Playa Blanca it would certainly include Rubicon Palace. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

Having just returned thought I would post my comments on this hotel.

Overall found it very good room was always very clean well it was until we returned to it the kids soon turned it into a mess again. But couldn’t fault the cleaners, kept on getting a single carnation in room, only saw one cockroach (on the balcony). Towards the end of holiday noticed that a lot of rubbish bags from cleaning staff were not picked up that day & would look unsightly.

Food was good I expect some had chips everyday but there was enough choice to have something different everyday.

Location was also good quite a quiet part of Playa Blanca some building work going on the north & west sides.

We were in the middle overlooking one of the smaller pools with great sea views of fuerte I guess the room allocated would make a difference to overall enjoyment.

Staff I found overall courteous though if you waited patiently you wait longer, many times if a Spaniard came up to reception/bar they would immediately engage in conversation with the staff & would be served next I guess the Spanish don’t queue like us queue loving brits

Entertainment was mainly the animacion team with a few outside acts some were good some were weird (a woman in her late 50s hanging by her hair in a thong type suit juggling will always leave an impression)

Hotel seemed half empty the 1st few days & noticed that a lot of sunbeds were still free by lunchtime though after a week nearly all were saved by 9am though you wouldn’t see an occupier on them until early afternoon in some cases even though there are signs everywhere saying not to.

Not the kind of person who goes back to the same hotels but if I could get another good deal here I just might

Stayed in Rubicon Palace 2 weeks all inclusive first two weeks in August. The hotel was recommended to us by my wifes parents who have been 3 times before and are members of the H10 Club. They have not stayed in peak season however.

I found the hotel to be in a superb location, from my room I could see Fuertaventura and a true "Sea View" no binos or craning of neck needed here!

Some rather distasteful things occurred during our stay. The reception staff I found courteous and helpful as you would expect from such a Hotel. However in the bars it was another story. It became apparent very quickly that it was a case of Spanish first everyone else last. I was standing for example at the Piano bar with nobody at all standing anywhwere near me.

It was 5pm and the 3 or 4 bar staff ignored me. After about 5 minutes a Spanish man came to the bar and stood next to me with just me and him waiting. The bar staff came straight to him and served him ignoring me. I walked away in disgust.

Also there were cases of Bar staff talking to Spanish guests at the bar making references to the English turning towards you and laughing!! Needless to say we complained on more than onwe occasion.

I found some of the entertainment to be more holiday camp than anything with only a few professional acts although these were good.

The food was a little repetitive but I found myself choosing better as time went on.

There is a cockroach problem here but it is the canaries I suppose and they are big and fast!(the roaches that is)
can't fault the maids, rooms were well cleaned.

Thought the pool areas were good and the hotel itself is very nice.
If this was a school report it would be - Could do a lot better.

We had stayed at this hotel at Christmas and were really looking forward to our stay - big disappointment! Standard of everything has dropped dramatically in 6 months. Big staff cuts, you now help yourself to drinks and the drinks that are served from the bars are now of a much cheaper ingredients

Food very repetitive and cold and dining room like a children’s playground - absolute chaos - we have stayed in many 4 star hotels and a dress code usually applies for the evening meals - not here you had people in the dining room in beach wear and football shorts. We did complain but were told by the under manager that there was noting they could do!

This was a Spanish version of Butlins! and if you could not speak Spanish you understood nothing - 95% of the guests were Spanish therefore that’s who they catered for most.

For ten days there was a terrible smell of sewerage and as there are drain covers lifted everywhere it looks like they have a problem. There are plenty of hazards around the complex e.g. drain cover by one pool had been lifted and left half up causing my father to trip on a number of occasions.

We had air conditioning water leaking into wash hand basin and above toilet and had to be reported twice before anything was done and we had to complain a number of times about lack of cleanliness of maid.

We had been recommended this hotel and it was very nice 6 months ago but not now.

I was really looking forward to this hotel, as it had great reviews. The rooms were clean, but ours had some problems that were never sorted, the verandah door needed he man to operate although this was reported on a number of occassions it was never fixed. I see that someone has put they had a seperate room this was never given to us although there were 2 adults and 2 childrens in camp beds stuck in the same space.

I dont know how these things are priced but we paid more than other people and they got access to a free fridge (the fridge in your room is locked and is charged at about £15 per week although its turned on constantly so I don't know what the big deal is in using it as they are using elec anyway). There is also a cockroach problem dont know if that's a Lanzarote thing.

The restaraunts were a nightmare as soon as you get in you have to find a table, cutlery, especially in the morning, it's like runaround and they would move stuff constantly, this was very stressful when you have children and all you seem to do is get up to look for stuff and avoid the crowds doing the same. There was about 90% Spanish at the hotel the rest european with about 2% British so the kids club and the entertainment were in spanish.

I spoke to people who had been a couple of times before and they thought it was very different a lot of cost cutting seems to have gone on at this hotel.

The hotel was fantastic, we were staying in the Club Palace and had an open terrace overlooking the sea with sun loungers provided by the hotel. The room was always spotless as the maids were very thorough. We didn't have any electric when we got there but we rang reception and they sent someone very quickly, they were very helpful.

The food I found was average but as a couple we prefer to go out for meals on the evenings. The Italian Restaurant within the hotel is nice but you have to pay for the meal.

The location however was very disappointing, there was a lot of building work going on around the hotel as Playa Blanca is still developing, it was also a 10 / 15 minute walk to the beach, nearest shop or restaurant.

We did not use any of the hotel entertainment.

The Thalossotherapy centre / Serenity Spa is well worth a visit! You have to pay a day's entry then pay for numerous treatments but it is excellent. It is better than it seems in the advertisements!

We have just returned from a great weeks holiday at H10 Rubicon Palace, Lanzarote. The hotel is really big and spread out and although our rooms were located as far as possible from the main building this really wasn't a problem. We had 2 interconnecting rooms for our 2 children (aged 11 & 8) and ourselves, these were big, really clean and the bathrooms sparkled - the children particularly liked having sky TV in their own room!

Upon arrival at the hotel I thought what have we booked - the complex seemed so vast and I really didn't think we would have a good time, but by day 2 my opinion had changed. There was a good mix of Spanish, Italian, German guests staying in the hotel - as well as plenty of English. The Food was absolutely fantastic - we usually come home loosing weight from holidays abroad - but not this time. The choice and quality was so vast - fish, pasta, salads, pizzas, meat every evening as well as a chef on hand to cook special themed dishes of the evening. My husband has a huge appetite and he was a very happy chap with after every meal. The dining room is extremely large - but don't let this put you off, once you have got used the helping yourself and finding everything just enjoy. One point there seemed to be a distinct lack of spoons in the dining room whilst we were there - it was like playing hide and seek some meal times.

The staff were brilliant - lots of entertainment both day and night and our daugther really enjoyed the kids club on the days she went. The shows the staff put on at night were really good.

The hotel is located about 20 minutes from Playa Blanca which isn't a problem - taxis were cheap and it's quite a nice walk into town. If you want a quiet, quality holiday with good entertainment, excellent food and staff then this is for you.

We have just returned from a fantastic 2 weeks at the Rubicon Palace and we want to go back already!

The hotel itself is impressive all very tastefully decorated and the army of cleaning staff keep everything spotlessly clean - everywhere you look they are cleaning something!

We had a great room which was a good size with 2 double beds, a single bed for our 3 year old and a cot for our 1 year old but there was still plenty of space in the room - however be aware that you need to pay for the safe (15 euros a week I think) we didnt bother and one afternoon I saw a security guard checking the chambermaids handbags before they went home which reassured us.

The food is fantastic there is something different every night over the 2 weeks there was king prawns, mussels, crab, salmon and lovely rare beef as well as all the vegtables, pastas, rices and chips etc and the desserts were great too.

The chefs stand behind one desk and will cook things fresh for you (my husband had omelettes every morning cooked how he liked them).

They also do themed evening (italian, chinese etc) the chinese was wonderful - we agreed that it was probably the best chinese we had ever tasted especially the spring rolls.

You will have to be a very fussy eater not to find something you like in the array of food that comes out for every meal and there is champagne to drink at breakfast if you want.

The staff were all great especially with the kids all very polite and helpful.

The hotel is about 20-25 mins walk from playa blanca - it is a pleasant enough walk along the pedestrian coast path in the early morning or early evening when its not too hot but the hotel runs a courtesy bus service to its sister hotel the lanzarote princess which is only 5 mins walk from the main shopping area of playa blanca - the bus does tend to turn up early though and doesent hang around a second past its departure time!

I would advise you to be there 10 mins before its meant to leave just to be on the safe side!

I can't really comment on the entertainment as our kids were too young for it anyway and our 3 year old was happy enough just playing in the pool.

The entertainment staff did seem to work hard and have alot of things going on if you wanted to join in.

To sum up we enjoyed our stay here and didn't want to leave we think the Rubicon is worth every one of its 4 stars and should maybe even be 5 stars.

Very very pleased with the whole holiday - highly recommended for families with toddlers!

Our son 2 and our daughter 1 and my husband are all fussy eaters, however, we had no complaints about the food.

Although the hotel was away from the town, that’s just how we liked it, it is set on a lovely promenade, and is a perfect walk, and fairly buggy friendly.

As we went I January, the only negative thing we have to say about the hotel was that the pools were too cold, even the heated one, if you were swimming fast, it could or been bearable, but as we had the kids, who were literally shaking, we paid to use the health spa pool, which is limited to one hour at about 1 o'clock (cant remember exactly) and cost us 20 euros, a bit steep for an hours swim, but we had to let the kids swim, we used this on 2/3 occasions through out the week. The water is beautifully warm, I’d guess about 18 degrees.

Mums if you get a chance to go, it’s a must!

Staff were extremely helpful, and fantastic with the kids.

There is a superb little play area, with sand, perfect considering the nearest beach is 10-15 mins walk (although it is a lovely little beach)

as our kids were too little to be left in the kids club, the staff were happy for us to go in and stay with the kids and join in with the painting etc.

On a whole a fantastic hotel, and holiday, would definitely go again!

Highly, highly recommended, for families with toddlers.

WOW! When I told our friends that we were booked into the H10 Rubicon Palace they said "You lucky So & So's" well I now know why.

It’s a huge complex and our rooms were absolutely enormous my wife & I had a room that had two double beds side by side, we used to wave goodnight to each other.

The maids were top notch the room always looked & felt clean they never missed a nook and cranny, not an ounce of dust anywhere. Towels changed every day, bed linen every two days.

The staff were the friendliest yet!

The Entertainment was superb, we used to alternate our evenings to the Piano bar where we had Duo's and even an Opera singer one night. The middle floor hosted the Animation Theatre and this was really professional, or we would go to the pub on the site and listen to country & western singers every night.

We booked the Rubicon Palace for 2 weeks arriving on 30th Dec 04.

The room we were allocated was very spacious, clean, comfortable, with a lovely view across to Fuerteventura.

However, our stay was very disappointing. We had a choice of two restaurants but with poor service. Apart from the odd excellent waiter most of the staff were miserable and you usually had to find your own table. The tables were placed very close to each other.

New Years Eve was not very special. In hotels we have stayed in before there has been waiter service but at the Rubicon it was buffet only. The choice of food over 2 weeks was very repetitive (same soup for 10 out of 14 nights). We had endless cups, glasses, plates, with chips and cracks in them. Halfway through the holiday one of the restaurants was closed until further notice meaning that everyone was packed like sardines into the one that remained open. They said it was closed for maintenance but an inside source said it had been closed to cut costs.
There were only 2 waiters on duty in the piano bar over the New Year period. It was nearly impossible to get a drink. The first night we went to the piano bar we waited 40 minutes to be served and another 20 minutes when I went to try and get served at the bar. Most of the tables were full of used glasses and people were waiting for so long and walking out.

The entertainment team seemed to work very hard through the day and evenings and a lot of the evening entertainment was provided by them. There was only an hour or less of any adult evening entertainment and it was quite a poor standard.

There are a lot of grounds to the hotel to walk around and some large pools which were that cold it was impossible to swim. There was supposed to be a heated pool but it felt icy cold and wasn't been used by anyone.

In general they have tried to do something different with the Rubicon Palace but it doesn't seem to work. The hotel is too big and they don't seem to have the numbers of staff to look after the place. It doesn't have the feel of a hotel or a particularly welcoming atmosphere. You can have a long walk to your room and some of the corridors are quite grubby.

On leaving your room you are looking at rubble that has not been properly landscaped on the slope up to the car park. We were told a new manager had taken over just before we came home. He has a challenge ahead of him but with a lot of work he could make it a lovely hotel.

We stayed in the Club Palace section of the Rubicon Palace and although it is more expensive, it is definitely well worth the extra. We had a suite which was down on the seafront as are all the Club Palace rooms. They are changed twice a day, you get a weather forecast and a chocolate on your pillow every evening! Plus you get tea/coffee making facilities in the room which is quite unusual.Don´t take beach towels as they are provided, at one count, we had 17!! The Club Palace guests have the exclusive use of the Venecia Restaurant. It is a buffet/a la carte restaurant.Breakfast is buffet style (as are the 2 main restaurants) and dinner is buffet style starters and desserts and a choice of about 6 main courses. The food was excellent! And the service couldn´t have been better. All the staff in the hotel were exceptionally friendly. It really is a huge complex so you never get the feeling of being crowded even though the hotel was at full capacity when we were there. One thing worth mentioning is that there is a sort of roadway running through the resort as the cleaning team get around in cars, as does the train that collects you and your luggage so just be careful of letting toddlers wander around freely. They don´t race round like Formula one drivers but nevertheless, it´s worth mentioning. Also, the Club Palace villas are on the front, and the main gates to the resort are always open so anyone can wander in or out! The rooms on the ground floor have a garden out front but not fence so we had to keep an eye on our 14month old daughter!

We would definitely go back. It is a super family hotel with lots to do. For a 4*, we found the standard very high. The pools however are a bit on the cold side and we found out towards the end that the pool used for water polo etc, is the heated one!

It is dificult to fault this hotel. Large number of rooms but never seemed crowded even when full.

Our room was in the same block as the English Pub, but the insulation was so good that we never heared any noise.

Although the hotel describes itself as " on the sea front" it fronts on to the (walking only) promanade and the immediate beach is rocky. The nearest sandy beach was Playa Flamingo about 2km walk, but we did all our swimming in the many hotel pools which are very safe for children. Even the main pool is only 1.4m at its deepest.

Playa Blanca was 3km and the hotel provided a free coutesy bus. Taxis are plentiful and cheap £2 from Playa Blanca back to the hotel.

There was plenty of entertainment and nightly shows. One critism was the volume of the sound, too high for us oldies, but that seems the trend.

If want you want a quiet relaxing holday with excellent food and guaranteed good weather this is it

The hotel complex is huge (I think the rep said it was 2sq Km) though it was well laid out; it did take us a day or so to work out where everything was, though once sorted everything was logical and easy to get to. The main building houses the reception, 2 restaurants (buffet style), piano bar, card room, small shop, patios, internet area, conference rooms, pool table area and loads of open plan informal seating and there are pond/fountains on each of the 3 floors. Initially I was confused by the floors being numbered 2, 4 and 6 (ground level – reception, is on level 6) and couldn’t work out where 1, 3 and 5 were! It transpires that the accommodation wings on either side are 2 thu 7 and it is the even numbers that link to the main building – logical once you get it. I think most of the block accommodation throughout the complex was called levels 8 & 9; these were blocks of 16 (?) rooms on two floors and appeared to contain the family type accommodation.

The hotel is immaculate, each day an army (I do mean army) of staff are mopping, washing, cleaning and polishing and all were polite, friendly and conscientious. It does need an army as the place is so big as you can tell from facilities mentioned above. Out in the surrounds there were pool cleaners and garden staff out tending the plant etc. There are (I think) 6 pools, one was winterised (warm) and the rest cold, quite a shock to the system after lying on a sun bed for a while. Some of the pools were salt water, some chlorinated. The health and safety appeared to be taken seriously; there were plenty of life rings around in easy access and good repair and a life guard doing the rounds. Though I did notice that some of the patio area tiles were cracked and broken which could be tricky for small feet. On a similar note; each day the internal floors were mopped and this made the marble floors (there’s always marble) very slippery, take care!

What can I say about the food? It was almost an embarrassment to see such variety, considering that they were catering for Spanish, Italian, German & British (and I’m sure others) there was always a superb choice and plenty of it. The buffet style food may not be to all tastes and yes, at peak times you may have to wait behind 3 or 4 other people, but it was all fresh and cooked to how you want it. Apart from the set options, (the fish was spot on) there were themed options each evening. And you can go back again and again. And yes, there was champagne for breakfast. The wine list had a reasonable selection and a fair price; what I would expect to pay for a bottle in Tesco say, if you like Spanish reds then you’ll love it – we didn’t have a duff one. As for the bars, the prices seemed comparable with UK pubs which I didn’t think bad for a hotel. A word of warning though, in the piano bar I was short changed twice; once is an error, twice gets the alarm bells ringing. (maybe just a coincidence and if so I apologise).

I could go on and on so if you want more or specifics let me know. I’ll finish by saying that if you are looking for a relaxing anonymous holiday (we found it just a little too big to get to know anyone) then this is definitely the place to go. For a 4 star, it has it all in spades.

Huge impressive lobby, good check-in. May seems to be quiet in Lanzarote, and the hotel was no exception. It seemed like the Marie Celeste at times. Probably explains why we only paid 50% of brochure price.Rooms O.K., but nothing out of the ordinary, and not as impressive as the hotel in general. Almost mind-boggling choices at meal times, and generally of a high standard, although I had something that disagreed with me the first night, and this put me off buffet food a bit. Chefs on hand to cook to order (omlettes etc at breakfast)and plenty of staff. Dont know if it was because the hotel was not full, but only one of the 2 dining rooms was open, and the pub was closed down - no reason given.Plenty of entertainment, but the excellent musicians in the piano lounge spent most of the time entertaining themselves, as so few people were their to watch and listen.Outside, excellent pools and plenty of sunbeds. The hotel is massive - a "train" is on hand to take guests to their rooms at the furthest parts of the hotel, but thankfully our room was close to all the main amenities. It is classes as being in Playa Blanca, but anyone who came here 4-5 years ago wouldnt recognise the place. It has expanded rapidly, and the Rubicon is a good 10 mins drive from the harbour - nothing is within easy strolling distance after dinner, so if you dont fancy the hotels entertainment in the evening, its a car/taxi trip into town

Nearly always make our own arrangments, always looking for a' value' deal and travelling at times that most suit us, rather than what high street agents tell you are available.
For our sins, only ever fly out of Gatwick, very convienient, for flights use all online search facilities, ba.com, brittania etc, use all teletext searches, www.med-hotels.com, kwik travel, and security travel, who I have to say in our experience have been very good.

Flew out by413a 14/03/04 brittania dep 13.55 approx

returned by413b 28/03/04 brittania dep 17.55 approx

nice flights and recommended

Booked to stay at the H10 Rubicon Palace Hotel in Playa Blanca via security travel, 14 nights for two of us 900 half board.
Airport transfer 20 / 25 mins taxi 30 euros

Having previously stayed at H10 hotels, including the 5 star Melonaras Playa in gran canaria, that was good,
but the 4 star Rubicon is better in our opinion.
What to tell you, well the place is vast, very easy check in, excellent information at check in, having a bit of experience at getting the best out of a break, at check in we asked for saftey deposit key, fridge key, extra coat hangers and pillows, which arrived instently. Our room 5094 was great, better than you would expect for a 'basic room' excellent views sea and hotel, ( or at least part hotel as the place is massive).

Tip take a travel kettle,(or ask for a kettle at reception) your fav brew /coffee or what ever, on arrival walk in to lobby bar and order dos cafe con leche ( two coffees) and uno leche freeo grande, large cold milk so that for starters in your room you can make all hot drinks you want! sounds mundane bit if you like a coffee / tea v early/late this is so simple, and keep the cups from the origenal coffee order!

Room immaculate, about 20 free tv channels, four English, Sky news, cnn etc,Eurosport some football shown on various channels, and it seemed you can subscribe to Canal plus? we didnt but apparently shows uk football?

Cold bottled water already in room on arrival, and totally unexpected, bottle of champagne and large fruit spread in room gratis. Our room was great, but it seemed if you wanted a different room / view this was not a problem. Also we were offered a 25% discount on a meal in the a la carte Valencia resturent, which we tried, charged us 30 euros after discount for three course meal and decent wine which seemed fair, and excellent food, but the food in the main resturents was so good, it just seemed a waste of extra money, to give you an idea, as mentioned having stayed at h10 melonaras playa 5 star, the food their was vauxhall conference, at the rubicon premier league, unbelievable choice, breakfast evening, as much as you could eat and more, all you have to do is ask, and have a real proper look at what is available.

The frendliest group of hotel staff ever encountered, the whole place seemed to be constently cleaned, and yet if you wanted peace quite solitude it is there in spades, sunbeds everywhere around the five + pools, and sunbeds eveywhere else as well, best day / night entertainments team ever encountered at a hotel, something going on all the time if thats your thing, or different pools quite / peaceful.

Do try once the Thalaso health spa,(in the hotel grounds) 12 euros for five and a half hours total luxury. Weather was superb throughout, can sometimes be windy, but plenty of sheltered places, do not get caught out, plenty of protection.
last night Sat 27th , heavens opened rain like you have never seen, we were out in Playa, got soaked, on arriving back at our room, so was the room!, well not quite, but water getting in, within two minutes of reporting this to reception, I had the keys in my hand to a suite room 5098 ten yards from our room which was like a lux apartment, shame it was our last night! but hey fun ending, Sunday weather back brill, and by the way asked for a late check out, no problem 12 euros.

Sorry for spelling, still not unpacked cases!
pps, if you like snorkelling / diving, hotel has in house team, free learning in pool etc everyday, and I kid you not an English pub on site!

Will go back 100%

What can I say absolutly wonderful, very spacious, very clean, very friendly. Our room had two 3/4 size beds, a sofa bed and a cot and we still had plenty of room. If you can't find something you like in the restaurant then there is just no pleasing you as there is definitly something for everyone. As we flew out on the 16th December they were getting ready for the busy christmas period, decorating one dining room and re-tileing one of the many pools but you wouldn't have known had you not been able to see them they were ever so quiet. childrens entertainment very good a little disco early every evening that was over with before the adult entertainment started. Quite a walk from the resort centre but a very nice one along the coast line and is just footpath so no cars to worry about. So good were going again this December. One thing I would say though is that the hotel is so vast I'm not sure I would like to be there in the busy summer periods.

The staff are very friendly and attentive, the food is outstanding, (the choice is unbelievable) and the entertainment is 1st class, the Animacion staff seem to work 24 hrs. The Daisy club is excellent and very safe and the mini-disco was the highlight of our children's holiday. Rooms are very spacious and clean.

We had a fantastic time and didn't want to come home. One year on and both my children are still talking about it, so much so that they have decided that if we don't book our summer 05 holiday at The Rubicon, they won't be coming!!!

Only downside is the distance to Playa Blanca town, approx 45-60 mins (with small children).
