This was our second visit to the hotel (see earlier entry April 2006), previously I was critical of some of the more senior hotel restaurant staff being quite rude at times, to be clear this is no longer an issue, I cannot commend the politeness of all the staff enough.

Quite simply this hotel is fantastic, worth the little bit extra that you pay, we did take in some of the shows and they were excellent (particularly the riverdance Irish type dancing).

Our daughter who is 4 years old attended the mini disco every evening, the lady that runs this (Judith) is quite simply a natural with kids.

Food is outstanding.

This hotel is excellent we will be going bak next year.

The food is outstanding

I have just come back from San Antonio Hotel and it was lovely.
The good points -

Food was nice, i am a very fussy eater so i was worried i wouldnt like the food but when i got there i loved it, theres lots of choice but the only bad thing is if you go for tea late then the food can be cold.

The hotel was clean and the room was cleaned everyday.
The room was simple, with 3 beds, average bathroom and fridge which you have to buy (11euro). The view i had wasnt very good as my balcony was on the roof so you could only see a bit of the sea but most rooms you either have the sea or landscape.

The staff were all happy and chatty and made friends with quite a few of them. They all spoke very good English which was good.

The entertainment was excellent. There was singers, dancers, acrobats and magicians on. However if you are staying for 2 weeks then some of the acts you would have to see twice.

The activites they had in the day were good. There was waterpolo, darts, minigolf, frech bowls (everyday), aquagym, beach trecking, tenis, pingpong, volleyball, rifle shooting, archary, dancing. I may have missed one or two out but they were all good and you won free drinks if you won.

The location was good. It was by two supermarkets and the 'strip' had lots of nice retaurants and shops and going to your right was the main beach.

The beach is right outside the hotel. It is very quiet but if you walk about 2minutes away then you can get to the sea and where everyone usually goes.

Bad points -

The room could of been a little bit bigger with perhaps a kettle for tea and coffee.

The drinks could be a bit cheaper.

Overall the hotel was great and i reccommend it to all ages. I think i will come back to this hotel in the future.

This hotel is in a quiet area and is just round the corner from the main street.

The food is very varied and we found the restaurant staff were very helpful.
The hotel is very spacious and is very clean and very comfortable.
The entertainment was well presented , perhaps geared to the more mature client! I'm not good at ballroom dancing. There were a variety of acts who were very good.

The hotel is only 4 floors high which was great.
We had a really good holiday.

The manager is usually around overseeing, and making sure that everything runs smoothly. We spoke to a number of older guests who come to this hotel more than once year. It is very popular.

We stayed at the Hotel San Antonio for one week from the 5th to 12th July. (Wall to wall sunshine all week). This was our first visit to Lanzarote and I chose this hotel after reading the reviews on this and other review sites. Our party consisted of myself, my wife and 4 children (16-19 years).
Generally we had a very good holiday at this hotel. For what we paid it represented very good value for money.

Good points.
The reception staff were great, the food was plentiful, varied and of a high standard....something for everyone, no matter how fussy you might be.
Restaurant staff were brill.
Hotel was spotless and the 'chambermaids' were faultless.
There are 2 main pools, both of which were very clean. We used the 'upper' pool most days as it was less salty than the other. There are plenty of sunbeds although if you want some shade, (and you will!),you will have to get up early to 'reserve' those beds......the sun 'umbrellas' are in a fixed position.
Great beach location, stunning views and direct access to a brilliant beach of 'Los Pocillos'.
Daytime events...boules, waterpolo, water aerobics, pistol and rifle shooting, archery etc. Great fun with prizes.
A comprehensive kids club.......the younger ones were occupied all day finishing off with a 8pm disco.
Taxi rank and bus stop immediately outside of the hotel...taxis very cheap, bus to Teguise market on a Sunday is 2.80 Euros one way.
Quietish location but only 5 min walk to the nightlife on the 'strip'.
2 cheap supermarkets close by (make sure you hire a room fridge @ 11 Euros !!!).
If your into an early morning jog, leave the hotel, turn right and run along the new promenade towards Matagorda..fantastic.

Bad points.
Well there aren't any really.
If you want to be picky then the bedrooms are a bit on the small side, in particular the bathrooms.
The drinks at the hotel are a bit pricey and the service was sometimes slow.
Extra charge for a fridge (a must).
The evening entertainment is what you expect in the Canaries......average (alcohol does help!!)

Have just arrive back from Lanzarote after a 2 week stay full board at the San Antonio Hotel.

I was a little concerned about previous reports about grumpy, unfriendly staff, but found the opposite when we arrived. Very friendly and made a fuss of the children and always polite and helpful. They even offered us breakfast at 3am so we could have something before our flight home !!

Food was excellent, the themed area offered, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Italian, Spanish food as well as the main selection - you could not go hungry.

The childrens pool and playgroung were perfectly positioned so the children could have freedom but couldn't get to the main deep pool with out being seen.

Mainly older couples and a few families with young children like ours when we went. Everyone so friendly, it was like having 20 sets of grandparents with you with them making a fuss over the children. Other families, though not many were very friendly and the children were never short of anyone to play with.

The evening entertainment was varied - Abba, Bee Gees, Beatles tribute bands, Acrobatics, Dancers, Magicians. All very good and kept a 2 and 4 year old entertained till past 11pm.

The hotel position was a the start of the road of shops leading down into old town of Puerto Del Carmen. Away from the noiser bars but close enough to have a lovely walk in an evening. Taxis just outside the hotel for the 2 or 3 euros ride directly down to the old town if you didn't want to walk.

Excellent holiday will go back.

We found the hotel to be in a good location. A pleasant walk to either Matagorda or the lively part of Puerto Del Carmen.

If you stay on the side of the sea whilst walking at night you don't get pestered by the touts trying to get you into the bars.

The hotel was very clean and the food was second to none. There was a superb range of different dishes on offer each night. The staff were friendly and helpful enough, and the entertainment was very good.

The pool area was very acceptable with a choice of the beach as well, next to it.

We will definitely be visiting the hotel again and again and again.

Lanzarote is my favourite holiday destination.

THE FOOD IS GORGEOUS!!! I don't know what some people are going on about. Both of us loved it and ate there 6 nights out of 7! Waiters are friendly enough if you make an effort with them.

It's not really near all the bars but its only 3 euro to get to the main central area so thats not bad!

The entertainment around the pool during the day is so funny and gets everyone laughing and joining in. The evening entertainment is also fun but is mainly for families.

I would visit the San Antonio again definitely!!! It well deserves it's 4 stars!!!

We went to the San Antonio for our Honeymoon as we thought it looked really nice in the brochure.

The first night we arived there was a power cut, this was about 11.30 at night, when we checked in we were just left to find our room in the dark with no explanation what was going on!

The hotel was clean and had a lovely poolside area overlooking the beach. This got very busy though and if you didnt have your towel down by mid morning you didnt have a chance all day!

The food wasnt up to much it was mostly cold and it got very samey. Needless to say we were eating out every night by the 4th night.

Can really comment on entertainment, we stayed in the hotel one night and were bored so most nights we were in all the main bars along the front

Staff werent the most friendliest.

Location was quite but still close enough to be near everything in Puerto Del Carmen.

Lanzarote however is excellent and we would definitely go back!

Have stayed in better 3 star hotels! We were dissapointed

This hotel is lovely, very clean & tidy, there was a vast selection of food to choose from with a varying daily menu.

The reception and cleaning staff are very polite indeed, the junior staff in the restaurant were very polite indeed, however, the more senior staff in the restaurant were at best abrupt and at worst quite rude at times despite how polite and courteous you are to them.

With a young daughter we never went down for the entertainment, so we cannot comment.

Great poolside, would recommend the balcony with the sea view.

Despite the impoliteness of the senior restaurant staff, we would definitely return again.

This Hotel is where you want to go to spoil yourself.

We went half board & the food was top class instead of staying for dinner every evening you can opt for lunch instead.

The pools & grounds are super, clean & well kept the hotel it self is a good walk from the old town but taxis are very cheap.

The staff are friendly & helpful & the room spotless this is our second time staying & we will be back again.

The entertainment is for older couples & could be updated a bit.

This being the second visit in twelve months.

Staff are friendly.

Food choice good.

We did experience a few problems on arrival we found the carpet was damp as well the balcony was rather slippery to walk on. The bathroom floor in the corners was dirty and remained that way the whole stay.

We were distracted by the musical entertainment being transmitted into our room was like being in the same location. This did affect the sleep that we had.

We did enjoy other elements of the holiday with the pool side bar and eating midday. We left feeling refreshed

We have stayed in this hotel 3 times now and it is by far the best. You can't fault the food/rooms/service or staff.

The entertainment was superb. We have travelled to many countries and various grades of hotels but you would have to go a long way to beat this one for value for money and variety.

Only thing we didn't like was one member of staff at the pool bar ... very ignorant man .... but it doesn't spoil the rest of the holiday.

Expensive really for just half board but well worth it. Kids club was very good and laid on plenty of activities to keep the children occupied, including piano lessons!

Would recommend a visit this hotel.

My wife and I stayed in the San Antonio this year for the second time .

It was even better than we remembered (and we thought it was great last year.) The hotel is well presented which must be difficult being an older hotel, there was some painting going on when we were there but it was done in a way that disturbed no-one and kept the place looking bright.

The food was better too with more choices , better cooked every night and I'm 1/2 a stone heavier now I'm back. The walk to the old town is not for the lame but the main strip and the promenade are worth the stroll even if you are going no-where.

The only criticism I heard of the hotel was of the staff, this again has improved from last year, they are making a real effort (even though it must hurt for some of the 'old guard'.)

The younger staff are excellent really helpful and friendly and I earnestly believe they enjoy their jobs. The majority of guests were Spanish with equal shares of German and British/Irish, which made for an international feel.

We ARE going back; this is a first rate Hotel it may not have all the marble and waterfalls of the Yaiza or Natura Palace but , The Location! The Food! The Cleanliness and the Vast majority of the Staff!

This was our second time at this hotel and enjoyed it just as much as last year. The food was lovely and was always being replemished. There was plenty of variety and catered for all nationalities. We experienced only one very rude waiter in the dinner hall but apart from this one exception we found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful at the hotel.

We found the hotel to be very clean although this year when we stayed it was a month earlier than last year and we found that there were more people staying at the hotel. As a result of such crowding we were disappointed that the pool area was not cleaned to the high specification of last year. This did not ruin our holiday and we still spent most days around the salt water pool.

The hotel is located in the New Town and, in my opinion, is perfectly located. You do have to walk some way for the old town or take a taxi for approximately four euros but the hotel is definately in the better part of Puerto Del Carmen.

The hotel entertainer for this year was a guy named Ramon(d). He was second to none and without him our holiday would not have been half as good. The children were kept entertained throughout the whole day and Ramon(d) would always treat them as if they were the only children in the hotel (which they were not). He is perfect for this job and we only hope that he will still be at San Antonio when we return next year for a third visit.

I would most definately recommend this hotel to anyone and will return again. The majority of people we met at the hotel this year had visited this hotel many times in the past and say that they will continue to return to this hotel for many years to come.

The hotel was lovely, but I thought, if you looked closely it should really be a 3 star rating. Disappointed that there were no tea & coffee making facilities in the room.

The bar and restaurant staff were extremely rude and unfriendly. Many times we were shouted at. It spoilt our holiday. It got to the point where I used to dread going to the restaurant and I felt extremely nervous each time I was there. There was not one smile from the bar staff.

The food was OK but cold, had to heat it up in the microwave.

I stayed at the San Antonio Hotel between 28 October and 11 November 2004. The holiday was with First Choice. This is the second time I have stayed here. The first was in 1999.

The weather was okay. A bit cloudy, but always around 78º F. We got a special offer with First Choice – Full Board for the price of Half Board. At lunch I saw that service was included when you bought drinks. This allowed us to put all our drinks on our bill with a clear conscience.

There were always plenty of sunbeds in the morning. However, if you wanted one on the beach you would have to pay, as they are owned by the council.

The staff were very good. The evening entertainment was excellent. I am surprised so many didn’t like it. During our time there we had acrobats, Backstreet Boys, Drifters and Abba tribute acts.

Our view was over the tennis courts (Room 2610). Our balcony didn’t much catch the sun. The hotel offers a laundry service, but it is quite pricey. There is a washing line in the bathroom, and for less than the price of cleaning a shirt you can buy hand wash at the nearby Spar (make sure you pick MANO which means hand, not MAQUINA which means machine).

The meals were excellent. All buffet. Gentlemen are expected to wear a shirt at dinner. There was normally one special which you take from a small kitchen in the entrance of the restaurant. There were Italian, Chinese and Pizza specials while we were there.

Outside are two bus stops. If you want to take a bus go early in the morning – 9ish. By 10 o’clock the busses are full, and will just pass without stopping to pick up passengers. We used this to reach Playa Blanca (90 cents) and Costa Teguise (2.25 I think). We could only buy singles, not returns. Although, of course you will be able to get a return journey. I believe you can buy a special ticket which gives you several rides, but I will have to investigate that in the future.

I fully recommend this hotel, but I can’t recommend the excursions. I think First Choice compete on price. So, while you go for about the same price as the operators for which you are handed leaflets in the streets, the trips are cutdowns. We did the trip to Fuerteventura with them and were sorely disappointed. Read my review:

http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=16650&sid=bb4400b6be5c50c266f73178ad2926ed

I think they compete on price to give their reps commission but, for instance, we could have got a Fuerteventura trip in which we would have visited two towns and not been simply abandoned at the sand dunes for just 4 Euros more.

This was the first time my husband and I had stayed in a 4* hotel and I must say, if they all live up to this standard, we will be doing it again!! Went for our 5th Wedding anniversary and were pleasantly surprised to recieve a bottle of champagne from the hotel management to help us celebrate!! This was a lovely touch and definately not expected.

I challenge anyone to say that there was not enough selection for food, I've never been so impressed in my life!! My husband is quite a fussy eater and even he couldn't fault it.

The rooms were cleaned on a daily basis and always to an extremely high standard with pleasant and courteous staff.

It's a shame the restaurant and bar staff weren't as nice. Found them to a be a bit rude and abrupt, and they also seemed to have their favourite guests whom they talked to every night.

Having been to Puerto Del Carmen numerous times, we didn't really stay in the hotel often, although when we did, we noticed how talented the singers were. Even if they did repeat themselves!!

Definately on to remember, I'm sure we'll go back in a few years.

This is one hotel which actually lives up to everything that the brochures say about it.

We took a taxi transfer (recommended) from the airport, and were there in 10 minutes. Our cases were put in our rooms.

The rooms were very clean, and the beds were changed regularly.

The hotel food was as wide a choice as you could wish for.

Very quiet location, and on the beach straight from the hotel, although we did not use the sea, as the hotel pools were better. You could say that the prices were topside for drinks and snacks, but no more than you would pay in a bar in UK.

We found the staff very helpful and friendly.

The entertainment consisted of a duo (who sang the same songs every night, but sang them well) followed by a first class act, changed every night.

The hotel would suit an older class of person (we are 62, 63 & 82). The "kids club" looked derelict, and if you are taking children, it is worth checking about the facilities. (Admittedly we went during term time)

The "round the Island trip is worth while, as is the market trip. Taxis are cheap. And we didn't think it necessary to hire a car.

Oh, and one last comment, First Choice Airways really should have a little more legroom, so if you are more than 5ft 6inches you may wish to pay extra for more legroom. I would certainly recommend the hotel to all my friends, enjoy!

Stayed for 2 weeks. Hotel is impressive when arriving, only took 5 mins to check in, took one passport but we got it back the next day. I had previously emailed ahead to ask for a room on an upper floor with a sea view and we had room 3721, looks out over the tennis courts and Los Poscillos beach, we were well pleased. The room was on the side that the wind hits and the breeze was lovely at night and when sitting out on the balcony. My sister had room 3720, they were overlooking the pools and that area of the beach and their balcony was like a sauna, a real sun trap.

Although check in took 5 mins, it took us much longer to find our room, the hotel is like a maze, there are about 4 or 5 different blocks and the lift you think is right is not and you have to go up one lift and walk round half the hotel corridors or walk up 1 flight of stairs and then use a more convenient lift - it would be better if there was a ramp as well as stairs beside the row of shops just down from reception to make it easier with your cases.

The room - nice and big! Very clean, our sink was leaking on arrival but we contacted reception and the 'handyman' was there in minutes and fixed it. TV was free and we had Sky One, Sky news, BBC world news and Channel 4 for English speaking channels. MiniBar/Fridge, 12€ per week as a fridge or 24€ per week (min) filled. 11€ per week for the safe, which is an electronic keypad, saves you having to carry a key, very handy. Floor is carpeted, very nice compared to the tiles in most hotels. Beds were very comfortable and got extra pillows from the maid with no problems. Balcony was just like most but big, lovely to sit out and watch the planes land at the airport (don't be worrying about the noise). No tea/coffee making facilities though (this would have been nice). Lock the door if you want a lie in as the maids will come into clean the room even if the do not disturb sign is on the door!!

Bathroom - ok size, have had bigger bathroom in 3* hotels, a bit dark but you get used to the lighting, shower over bath, sink, toilet & bidet, all marble around the sink and tiled elsewhere. Maids changed the towels and cleaned everyday. Hairdryer was useless, hair dried quicker walking the street with the heat.

Pools - Excellent! One freshwater with a waterfall coming from one end, but a barrier to stop you getting swept away with it. One salt water, this one is better for swimming in. You could always find a sun lounger at anytime but you know the usual people were up at 7am putting towels down even though there are signs up everywhere saying you cannot do this. You could also hire pool towels for 5€ during your stay from reception, changing them each day after use. The pools were cleaned every night. There is a pool snack bar facility. Toilets at pool were a bit smelly. There was also massage, Turkish bath, sauna facilities but you had to pay for them. The gym was free and looked good but of course I never used it!!

Restaurant - Breakfast - 7.30 - 10.30am - A real mixture of food to suit all nationalities staying, cooked food, cereal, meats, cheeses, breads, juice, tea, yogurts, fruit etc. Very nice.

Dinner - 6pm - 9.30pm - You will eat lots in your first few days then you get fed up eating!! again a real mixture of food, always 1 type of fish, 1 meat being carved and another type being freshly cooked. There were others as well already cooked along with potatoes, chips, salad, cold meats, vegetables, soup, breads, etc Only 2 nights we were disappointed with the choice but then they can't please everyone. A few people did complain that they could not get tea/coffee after their meal in the restaurant, they had to go to the bar after and pay separately.

One downside was the matre'd(s) and some of the waiters/ess and bar staff (very slow in serving) could have been more friendly no matter if you said ola, gracias etc they just grunted at you or kept talking to other members of staff while serving you your drink, unless you were fluent in Spanish (then they were nice) and this was mentioned by other guests we spoke to also. They really let the staff down as all others were helpful even if they could not speak English and even with my broken Spanish!! Some nights they were just down right rude. I did think it was just me being paranoid but other guests were saying the same thing. Need to get this sorted!!

Reception changed travelers cheques 1% commission on AMex euro and 2% on £stg cheques. They were helpful when you needed anything, taxis, information etc. They also sell stamps and there is a post box.

There are also a few shops inside the hotel, one selling daily papers and the others, clothes, bikinis, bags etc and a hairdressers as well.

The hotel does not have any public internet access, in this day and age a 4* hotel should have that, plenty of space for a computer or 2.

The hotel entertainment was terrible that we could see, but the bar was busy every night, just not to our taste, mostly an older crowd. It was very expensive to drink in the bar as well. Cheaper in town.

The hotel is in a perfect location 10 minutes from the airport, right on the Los Poscillos beach and taxi rank and bus stops right outside the front door. 5 mins walk to the main bars, shops, restaurants. There is also ample parking at the hotel if you hire a car.

All in all, the bad points I am just nit picking but I believe they are valid points, but I would definitely visit the hotel again and would recommend to anyone.

Superb hotel, we only stayed for the weekend we where actually staying in Fuerventura for 2 weeks and decided to go for the weekend as when we where there it was our anniversary and we had spent our honeymoon in Puerto del Carmen.

Excellent hotel and would have loved to have stayed there for the remainder of my holiday lovely clean spacious rooms with excellent sea views.

When we came home my husband was telling a friend about it and he had said his parents stay there for 1 month every January (can't be bad).

We only had bed and breakfast however the buffet selection was massive I dare someone to say there was nothing for them to eat.

Hotel staff where excellent and where very helpful as we just arrived and asked for a vacancy. Well done keep up the good work.

We stayed here last March and would definately revisit. The hotel rooms are spacious well equipt and very clean, to high standard. Reception staff were extremely helpful. Enjoyed the meals everyday there was plenty of variety from the more adventurious to the fussy eater, all were catered for. Plenty of pool area leading straight to the beach, easy to find a nice spot in the sun. The evening entertainment was of a high quality but the resident band became a bore everynight when they did the same act before the main show. Not enough bar staff on in the evening but all very friendly.
Had a great holiday at this hotel.

We have visited this hotel many times as, my aunt, goes about six times a year staying for as long as a month at a time. She has been doing this for over twenty years! Need I say any more. We really enjoy our stay when we go which is usually in the winter.

The staff are very good, with a few exceptions; sometimes the waiters can appear rude and believe this should sorted out. If you ask for the Director, Martin Crucez, he will be happy to sort any problem you may have.

We always have a room overlooking the sea or sometimes a suite, the maid service is excellent.

The food is very good and we for one see many faces returning.

This is a first class hotel being complimented by personal touches such as flowers in your room or even champagne if they know it’s a special occasion.

Go and enjoy!!!
