we found the galeon playa apartments very centrally located.the beach, shops and restaurants are all a stones throw away.the hotel is made up of different blocks, some blocks are better placed than others.our apartment balcony faced the road but we had a sea view too.the bedroom had a high window but you only sleep in there so no big deal.the rooms are basic but very clean and spacious.the pool area is nice though the water is cold!not much in the way of entertainment, abit hit and miss.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and had a lovely time.

The food was ok theres were some choices but if we was to go again I think we would got Self Catering as there are so many restaurants with resonable prices around. Breakfast was good especially the pastries!!

The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful, especially the reception staff. The cleaning staff made swans out of towels for us because they found out we were on honeymoon. It was a pity about the entertainment as it was mainly aimed at kids but we did go in the lowest time of the season.

When we travelled we went with Thomson but I now think it has dropped from their brochure which is a shame.

The location of the hotel was perfect, we walked for miles alonge the beaches to either side. We had a great time and are hoping to go back in a few ears time with our own family.

We have just got back from a week staying at the Galeon Playa, the apartments are in a good central position just across the road is a lovely beach(Playa Jablillo)theres a supermarket and various bars and restaurants, bank and car hire all outside the apartments for anyone wishing to hire bikes the hire shop is also just outside and we would recommend the Eco bikes you dont even have to pedal these just twist the handle and of you go Brill!

On arrival we were greeted by the reception staff who were friendly and helpful, our room was in block 9 which is facing the childrens play area and pool the room was clean and there was plenty of room for four it was cleaned six days out of the seven and bedding changed twice.

We stayed Half board the food was basic but we managed to find something to eat there just wasnt alot of choice.

It would be easy enough to go self catering as there were loads of places to eat nearby or you could just book for a few days food at reception cheaper than brouchure price.

I cant really comment on the entertainment as we went out on an evening but they did have something on most nights and there was a childrens club.

In excellent position, across from netto, which is brilliant in Lanzarote. Just down road from a nice beach with great sea, little bay to swim across. Back of hotel goes onto sea and other beach, with a view of the white buildings, and mountains, alond with the sea and beach. Has lots of bars, really nice square with lots of bars and restaurants not far from the hotel. Hotel next door to a cafe, and near a bike rental store-recommend the e-co bike rental. The hotel has an internet cafe and a bar, 2 pools, and 2 childrens pools, a childrens play area, and fun club, and has terapins in reception which you can stroke. Hotel also has games room, squash court to hire and snooker table. Greeted by friendly staff on arrival.

We really enjoyed our holiday. Our 1 bedroom apartment was very clean, spacious and looked out onto the main pool area.
We did not eat at Galeon Playa as there was lots of restaurants close by and a supermarket across the road.
The staff were all friendly and made you feel welcome.
The Atlantic Bar was ok but we tended to go out and then arrive back for 10.30 when it was 2 drinks for the price of 1!
We enjoyed our stay and would maybe go back in the future due to its location.

Fantastic flights out of Cardiff ,which was a good start to the holiday, would definatley recommend,(mind you quite windy and did need a jumper)

Plenty of supermarkets near by (the spar being the cheapest)

Rooms cleaned every day ,clean and tidy, not 5 star but good overall, would go back.

Food everywhere is good and cheap,by all accounts if half board breakfast very good but same eveing meal everynight,

Kids club excellent ,but have to put names down day before and only allow 13 kids at a time so dont forget to add names.

Entertainment not the best but my 5 year old loved it.

Would return.

We arrived at the Galeon Playa and was very impressed with the place. The rooms were very spacious and clean we never tried the food as there are so many places to eat within walking distance.

Costa Tequise is in a quiet location but central to local shops and 3 minute walk from the beach.

The staff were friendly and the complex was kept very clean, it has 2 swimming pools and plenty of loungers.

We ate out and could get a full English breakfast for 2.50 euro about £1.80. beer costs about 2 euro. Plenty of eating places along the beach front many are English owned.

There is also a Sunday market for those who like to shop.

Although Costa teguise currency is the euro it is not part of the EU, so the place is duty free but you are limited to what you can bring back.

We really enjoyed our stay at this complex and would go back again

Stayed here for the 3rd time. Room 365 in block E10 is a great apartment. 2 large rooms with 2 balconies. Accomodation spotless. This is the newer end of the complex. Would not go to this complex in the summer as no air con. Also if you do not have young children. March is a fine time.

The hotel location was great, the rooms were basic but i think we were in the old block, but they was cleaned everyday and clean towels everyday .

The staff was good the entertainment was poor but they did try their best. The swimming pool was quite warm considering the weather was cold and the surrounding pool area was clean and plenty of sunbeds if the sun came out.

Eating out was reasonable you could eat as cheap or as expensive as you wanted. The best place we ate was a little snack bar next to the Spar supermarket where you could get a steak with homemade sauces cooked in front of you for about 7 euros, and of course the Chinese was the best value a set meal for 7 euros.

We found the buses were great value and went mostly everywhere for a couple of euros, we would go back again but in the summer when you could take advantage of the lovely beaches.

We stayed at the galleon for 2 weeks in November, location was excellent, rooms imaculate (new block 11, staff really polite and helpful.

Daytime entertainment was great for kids and adults (volley ball, table tennis, rifle shooting etc) nightime entertainment was fab, (quizzes, live music, kids disco, reptile show, parrot show etc) too many to mention.

Thomson reps, esp crazy Craig and dippi Danni brilliant with kids, great fun. And hotel animators Jamilla and Adrian made me laugh all holiday, Jamila is hilarious.

Would def go back to this hotel next year. AAA***

Just returned from a weeks self catering at the Galeon Playa Apts, which are in an excellent location just metres from the beach/shops/restaurants. The rooms are quite basic and I would recommend that you take your own bath towels, although the maids cleaned our room on a regular basis the towels smelt disgusting. The apts were generally average however the pool area was cleaned every morning for approx 2 hours. Although the brochure states that one of the 4 pools are heated, it isnt, "climatised" was the word the reps used. Which was disappointing as the weather was cold.

Upon arrival at the apts I reported that we did not have a kettle & the fridge was leaking, it took 2 days for someone to respond.

I would not return to these apartments due to the level of security, we had our room broken into on the last night - easy access through the patio doors (which my partner managed to open when the lock was still in use!!) Luckily we hired a safe immediately so our valuables were not stolen, however I felt very uneasy with my children, knowing that someone had entered our apartment, whilst we were out.

These apts are very basic & if you are looking for a cheap self catering holiday in an excellent location then the Galeon Playa would be suitable however I would definately recommend getting a safety deposit box & asking for a second floor apt.

We visited the Galeon Playa in July of this year and we had a fantastic time.

The Hotel is situated in the heart of Costa Teguise, not far from the beach and some brilliant bars and restaurants. It is in the perfect location and ideal for families. If you stay here you must visit Saxos bar it is the best bar on the island and the DJ Grant is the best lad ever.

We cannot comment on the hotel food as we never tried it being self catering.

The Hotel is very clean the maid visited our apartment nearly everday however the towels were not changed often and were fairly digusting.

The staff in the hotel, mainly reception were rude and ignorant on several occasions to guests, my mother was told off for letting a Thomson Rep who was queing before her push in the queue by one member of staff. This resulted in the receptionist saying some rather unpleasent things about Janine our Rep.

Entertainment during the day was brilliant thanks to Jamilia n Martin but we never experienced it at night.

Overall, we would definitely visit this hotel again. We were wary after reading reports on here but we had a lovely time do not worry.

We have just returned from a week half board at the Galeon Playa. |We had the misfortune to have booked half board.. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!! The food is the absolute worst we have ever had. It was bland, cold, nothing 'went' with anything.. i.e spring rolls. croquet potatoes and peas and carrots swimming in some kind of manky sauce was supposed to comprise a meal!! There was no kids buffet at all while we were there. You cant even fill up on desserts as those too are awful.. tinned fruit, stale cake and if you are lucky ice cream (although within half hour of being put out it is melted due to the ancient freezer unit it is put in. Really really bad..please don't take the chance by booking half board... this is an ongoing problem admitted by the reps.. its not going to improve!! There are loads of great places to eat nearby.. go self catering and save yourself some money.. you will have to pay to eat out regardless of the board option you choose. The breakfasts are ok.. you can buy the breakfast option when you get there cheaper than the brochure price.

The rooms are a bit manky.... we were in a 2 bed apartment.. very spacious but needs an overhaul. We fused the apartment electrics when we used the cooker but to be fair they fixed it very quickly.

The pool area near reception is lovely but while we were there many of the children reacted to the chemicals in the water leaving red raw areas to the tops of their legs and genitals. Several kids were shipped to the doctors paid for by the hotel. Ours had to stay out of the pool several days because they had open sores on their legs. It worth taking some allergy cream just to be on the safe side but beware the kids scream when you apply it. The hotel have reduced the level of chemicals in the pool but by paying for the taxis and doctors I think this speaks volumes.

The beach across the road from the hotel is great. The kids reps are FANTASTIC.. really give the kids a good holiday.

So all in all folks.. don't go half board.. EVER

Keep an eye on your kids skin... starts off as small spots on the legs and tummy and if you notice anything go to reps or reception. Weather was fab!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are thinking of booking .. DO IT!! but self catering.. resort is lovely!!! Have fun!!

On arrival we found the reception staff a little abrupt and not particularly friendly.

We stayed in a one bedroomed apartment, which was clean. I would describe it as above basic - due to the decor, it looked as if it had been recently painted. There appeared to be fairly new curtains, bed covers and sofa's.

The food was not to the quality we were expecting. The food was bearly luke warm. One reason we booked this particular hotel was due to the children's buffet which was advertised in the brochure. The children's buffet was not on until we and several other parents complained. It appeared on our 4 night there, which consisting of burgers, chicken nuggets and fish fingers. The adults meals were of poor quality and we would not recommend that you stay on a half board basis.

The entertainment was okay - there is a children's disco which commences at 8.30 p.m. each evening lasting 1 hour. The staff try there best to keep the chldren amused by dancing competitions, pass the parcel etc.

We stayed for 1 week, which was okay for the amount we paid, however, we would have been upset if we paid anymore (like some families we met). We would not visit this hotel again.

We have previously stayed at Pueto Del Carmen, which was a much better resort.

Hotel was very basic. I would give 2 stars at the most. Entertainment was very poor and the entertainment room was full of unruly kids and push chairs. It was far to small and cluttered. You had to climb over furniture get in and out. Its only good point was its location, It was very handy for all the other hotels that had good entertainment.

Why dose this hotel command such a high price.

The hotel itself was very clean and tidy, we were in block 5 room 325 and I found it a little off - putting to find the lights in the corridor were on a timer and once they went out it was very dark, as I am partially sighted i found this uncomfortable.
The room itself was very clean and the maids did a great job.

The balcony was also very clean with a great view of the pool (it also caught the sun nearly all day).

Watch out for the odd cockroach in the iguana bar as this gave the wife a shock when she saw it running accross the floor, when i killed it it stayed on the floor for at least four hours before getting cleaned up.

Just got home from two fabulous weeks in Lanzarote. The Galeon Playa was a very pleasant suprise. Understandably it was in March and so wasnt going to be too busy, but the weather was fantastic and the hotel was in the most ideal location you could think of.

Only minutes to the beach, the shops, and restaurants/pubs to suite every budget. Theres plenty of playparks in the hotel and near by for the kids, and lots of amusement arcades for the older kids as well.

The room was clean and well presented, okay the kitchen appliances were probably old and not working to their best, but to be honest we ate out every night or had take away in; and bought rolls for lunch from the supermarket across the road.

The reps were very knowledgable, and unlike a lot of hotels in lanzarote, they were based in the Galeon and so there every day. If we ever needed directions they were very helpful.

The balcony was superb, it caught the sun most of the day, so why cry over a sunbed when you can lie in peace on your own balcony? In addition, the Costa Teguise promenade is right outside which gives a lovely, safe, and easy couple of mile stroll right along the sea front.

I would have no hesitation in going to this hotel again next time i'm in Lanzarote.

We Had a good week at the Galeon Playa. The weather was mainly good but did get a bit chilly at times when cloudy and windy. There are currently some improvement works being carried out on the apartments and complex but nothing that caused too much inconvenience. The apartments are ideal for children with lots going on. Thomsons run regular kids clubs and the Galeon's own entertainment team ( Jesus and Martin ) were a hit with the kids. There are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance of the apartments and in the quality of food available is generally good. If you want to hire a car do not arrange it through thomson. We used suncars ( just infront of the apartments to the left) they charge approximately half of what Thomson do.

We have just returned from the Galeon Playa and I must admit after reading the reports before we went I was not looking forward to the holiday.

We have had a great time the kids absolutely loved it. The kids club was excellent and Matrin and Jesus second to none, they were fantastic with the kids and made everyone welcome.

I took my own towels and plenty of antiseptic wipes which were not needed as the room was clean and fresh towels everyday. The maid came almost every day and made beds, swept, cleaned windows etc. I must say the corridors in our block 6 were a little tatty and the carpet was past its date.

The weather was a bit mixed, quite a few cloudy days but with the kids clubs they were well entertained.

The pool was cleaned everyday and mopped around the pool area, and when asked for extra chairs at reception they were delivered straight away.

The hotel is right in the centre of things easy access to both beaches.

Galeaon buffet was very good probably wouldn't want it every night though. Recommend the Taj Mahal, La Pardela near the lighthouse.

All in all had a great time would return but not in summer as I think it would be too busy in the Atlantic bars and around the pools.

Stayed at the Galeon Playa on a half board basis for the second time in as 3 years, the hotel is fairly clean, but the state of the kitchen area in our appartment[room 120] can only be described as old and taty.

Windows and mirrors dirty, all electric sockets loose, smelly tiolet, bedrooms smelt of fags,so bad infact we could not hang our clothes up.

Hotel food can only be described as disgusting. Hotel staff were o.k but reception can get a bit busy during checking in and out.

Entertainment was terrible smokey and second rate.

We will never go back to this hotel again. In 2 years this hotel has gone to the dogs.

On arrival I did feel a bit worried. The hotel definitely needs a paint job, it just looked a bit tatty.

The apartments weren't the cleanest I've ever seen but the balcony was lovely and big and we had a great view of the beach across the road.

Only went to the hotel bar once and it was ok.

We were self catering and didn't really spend much time there but I would say it was average, I didn't hate the place but I would recommend it and would try another hotel.

On a plus, the location was excellent!!

Playa Galeon Costa Teguse, after reading previous report I asked for a room in block 10 with lift access and we got room 265. It was spacious and clean with balcony over looking the pool and play area.

The room service was excellent and when we reported a balony door which would not lock it was dealt with quickly. My grandson aged 10 was happy with the daytime activities and Martin and Jesus were excellent with the kids. The mini disco in the evening was enjoyed by the younger kids. The later entertainment was not very good but at this time of year we don't expect too much and were happy to chat and have a drink.

We experienced a tropical storm which caused much chaos during the night, but the staff got on with the job of clearing up and it was business as usual in no time at all. We would certainly stay there again.

Just hope the weather is better next time.

Upon arrival found the hotel had overbooked rooms (even though we had booked holiday 10 months previously). Were placed in different hotel in outskirt of resort, needing taxis with each trip into resort. 3 days into our fortnight were booked into the Galeon but were allocated a double room instead of 1 bed apt as booked/paid for. Took half a day to get that sorted. Eventually we started our holiday in the Galeon with 10 days left. What a disappointment.

Room was grubby including utensils. Couldn't bear to use the very basic facilities provided except for tea and coffee. All meals eaten out. Towels smelt musty even when "laundered".

The "entertainment" room was substandard in that it was poky, smoky, overcrowded with the entertainment team trying their best. Only 3 professional shows in 10 days. Kids club was second to none. Our 5 year old fell in love with Carl, all the other kids reps were fab too.

The swimming pool was turning peoples hair and cozzys green!

Half way through holiday found out that the "superfamily" part of the Galeon was being removed as it didn't come up to scratch apart from location.

Would not recommend this hotel to anyone but highly recommend resort.

We have stayed at the galeon playa twice before, reading pass reviews we were worried what we were going to.
the hotel was great, ideal for my kids, play area, drop in centre, kid clubs.

The hotel is in the best area of the resort, we had friends in two different hotels that said they wish they had booked here due to its location.

The staff were very helpfull even when my little one had on accident in the night.

The swimming pools were coldand be carefull if going with little ones as the floor is very slippy.

We have just come back from 2 weeks at the Galeon Playa. We had a fabulous time.

We were in one of the older blocks, in a 2 bed apartment. It was cleaned 5 times a week, towels were changed each time, beds made, bins emptied and floors swept / washed. Absolutely no complaints with the maid service. The beds were good quality and the kitchen facilities were good too. We took things like cork screws, travel kettle etc but they were provided. Towels were clean but a bit smelly! We didn't see a single ant or cockroach (thank goodness!)

The pools were cleaned everyday and the sunbeds are locked up until 9.30am so we had no problems getting them when we wanted them. The only complaint about the pool was that it turned my bleached hair green and the chlorine destroyed all the swimming costumes.

We had no problems with noise at night, everybody has kids and seems to be mindful that they are sleeping when they come home late at night.

The location is spot on, a 2 minute walk to either of 2 beaches. Lots of bars (showing premier league football) and restaurants and shops on the doorstep. A visit to Rancho Texas if you have kids is a must - 54 euros for the five of us for a day visit, with a free bus there and back. The night trip was 180 euros for our family, but lots of fun and lots of food!!

It was such a relief after reading other reports to find that everything was so good!! We all had a wonderful time and really unwound and recharged our batteries.

One last thing, watch out when you shop at Netto, the supermarket opposite the hotel, they will overcharge you and look at you blankly when you complain!!!!

The hotel itself was great, clean, no bug and the maids came in all the time, which we didn't have a problem with.

The pool was fine itself, but you always have to fight for a sunbed, so in the end we gave up and went to the beach, which was great!

The staff were great and the holiday overall is good, but not much entainment for kids over the age of 10.

Good food, but if we ever came back to Lanzarote, we wouldn't come to this hotel because or the lack of entertainment for kids over 10!

This was our first visit to the Galeon Playa. The hotel was nice enough but is in desperate need of a refurbishment which is starting. Blocks E8 and E10 have been updated.

We stayed in E7 and our room was nice enough but our bedroom overlooked the play park and Atlantic bar which were noisy. Older children hung about the park until just after midnight. Our room was a 1 bedroomed apartment with twin beds in the bedroom but we had to use the dining room seat as a bed for our 5 year old. We did ask Reception and the rep for a separate mattress and despite the hotel not being full nothing appeared meaning once she'd gone to bed, we had nowhere to sit.

The Atlantic bar is all indoors and is too hot and smokey but our daughter loved the mini disco.

It did get very busy by the pool and at 7am there were already more than 50 towels reserving sunbeds, after 7.30am there were no spare sunbeds making an early start to each day.

The reps worked very hard often with little or no resources but some of the evening shows were a little inappropriate for a family hotel ie the drag show. We did hear that this hotel will not be a superfamily hotel next year but with Skytours instead.

Just returned from a 2 week holiday staying in the Galeon Playa. Was a bit apprehensive after reviews on here but thought it excellent.

Had emailed hotel to ask for room in the new blocks but got a room in block 5 ground floor. Appeared to be recently refurbished, and was very clean. Ok we had some ants but come on what do you expect?

Thought the entertainment reps did well and kids loved Danny (ding dang doo).

Would definitely go again.

We have just returned from a Thompsons Superfamily holiday. We had room 215 in the complex which was a 2 bedroomed (sleeps 6) room for the 4 of us. We paid extra, but the additional area was worthwhile.

The pools were cleaned daily in the mornings but gathered rubbish later in the day and would have needed cleaning later.

The Atlantic Bar where Thompsons entertain family's was very small. The entertainment from the reps was very poor although during the day tehre were various events on the hour for everyone to join in.

Overall, we would choose this apartment complex again although we would be wary of the many varied comments already posted in this review.

It would appear that some can be well pleased and others can get into a nightmare situation.

Having faxed and emailed the Hotel asking for a room in the new block we got one in block E7. This wouldnt have been much of a problem if one of the beds hadn't been infested with ants and the other wet.

We were moved to another room in the old block with two bedrooms (we had only booked one) so we were fairly happy. This was in Block E3 right on the front and just down from the Jellyfish which has been criticised for noise, we didnt hear a thing when we were in this room so don't be put off by the noise reports. Things were going swimmingly until we were asked by reception to move rooms once again as they needed the two bedroom apartment. We asked to speak with the Manager but the receptionist called again to reiterate he wanted us to move. We once again asked to speak with the Manager but nothing else was heard.

The following day we came up for showers to find that our water was off, we received a call from reception to tell us that due to our water problem we had to move. The strange thing was we hadn't reported this and we were in the middle of the apartment block so they couldnt have known. When we went to reception, we were told that 3 rooms had been affected but they only had us down for being moved. We had no option to move to a room (in the new block) which involved packing and unpacking for the 3rd time. Conlude what you will!

The Galeon was pretty clean but the low score is due to the state of the main pool, it was by far the worst I've been in.

The food was well presented but pretty bland. They promote a kids buffet but it isnt, its a menu you order from and they prepare. Unfortunately they restaurant staff don't let you know of its existence.

The stay was made by the entertainment and kids facilities, our boys 4 and 7 had a great time. I can't speak highly enough of the Thomsons staff on site from the moment we arrived till they waved us off when we left.

This complex should be listed as 2 star not 3! The complex was a bit tatty and was in need of updating (which was underway during our stay). There are carpets in corridoors and by the sun terrace which was a bit strange, especially as these had to be shampooed!

The maid service was carried out at different times daily.

The entertainment was a bit naff, the morning wake up was a bit cheesy.

The pools were very clean and well maintained, they were not as cold as most people have posted on this site and were always well used by all the children and most adults staying there.

The rooms were adequate, the bedroom was a bit dark as we were on a corridoor, although some appartments have 2 balconies.

The bathroom was clean, do take your own towels as the ones provided do smell!! The kitchen was well equipped. Although we would go to this resprt again we would choose a different hotel next time as this did not really qualify for being a superfamily hotel.

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Galeon Playa apts and didn't want to leave!

The entertainment reps and the normal reps were absolutely fantastic and we're missing them already. If you and your kids want a fun holiday, this is the place for you as there's always something to do and you'll have a ball.

I can't speak highly enough of the place, the pool was fine although I'd read reports of it being freezing!

Hoping to go back at the end of the year if finances allow, best holiday in years!

We booked this twelve months in advance paid full brochure price. This holiday really made us think seriously what Thomsons standards really are.

This was not at all superfamily room was disgustingly dirty, well worn and tatty furnishings. Hated every minute of it.

Reps didn't want to know, filled in resort report whilst there will be taking this matter further.

Ok we moved rooms, but no improvement whatsoever. What a dirty place.

My family and I have just returned from the Galeon Playa.

We were bitterly disapointed ! We emailed the Galeon several times before going requesting a room in the new block but we were put in the old block. Our bathroom stunk of sewerage it was comming from every plug hole on the place. The smell was foul.

We complained about this but it took a week of complaining to be eventually moved to another apartment which also stunk. Our kettle was mouldy in the bottom so they brought us another mouldy kettle. The shower tiles and floor tiles were covered in mildew. We had to buy plastic knives and forks as the ones in the apt were unuseable. The bed and towels smelt stale. I felt like crying!!

We didn't once go in the pool as there were dubious things floating in it.

The entertainment was cheesy to say the least!!

But however, the location was excellent and the kids clubs seemed well run and our little girl enjoyed the slides very much.

I do hope that after all these bad reports the Galeon Playa will do something about the above issues as it can only get worse. We have complained to Thomson about this and are awaiting a response.

We have just come back from the Galeon. We have a teenager in a wheelchair so before we went were able to request a ground floor room which we were given in the new block, if this was the new block then god help those in the old blocks!!!

The reception is like a postage stamp so you often bump into people.

The room was clean but very basic. The kitchen is as others have mentioned but must add that a draining board would have been useful, just a sink so wet crocks have to sit directly onto the work surface! The bathroom had a constant damp smell, having no window or even a fan extractor made things pretty difficult when 4 of us took daily showers, walls dripping with moisture, mildrew over tiles, slippy floors etc. The towels had an awful smell, as if they hadn't been dried properly when washed, left in un-aired cupboard, then put out. Musty with a capital M!!

On 4 occasions our wet and smelly towels had been removed from the floor roughly folded and put back on the rails!! So you can imagine wet dusty and even smellier!!!Disgusting.

Entertainment was rubbish.

Pools were freezing. The hotels manual stated one pool was supposed to be heated, and this is incorrect.

We found the hotel to be very small and very basic compared with any other 3* that we have visited all over Europe.

Fortunately for us family and friend had booked into the Puerto Tahiche and Barcel Galea hotels just up the road. These are 3* and I would rate them far superior to the Galeon. Pools larger, cleaner, entertainment excellent. Hotel grounds spacious and comfortable. So we spent all the time away from the Galeon. We just slept there on the noisiest beds we have encountered. I always strip the beds on the last day of any holiday, just to check we haven’t forgotten anything, I wish I hadn't when I saw the state of the mattress’s - yuk!!!!

Summary - if you are not too fussy about where you sleep, or having basic accommodation and a small complex, kids club that only operates for a couple of hours a day, freezing pools, which are small, one of them with very little sunbathing terrace then this is the place for you.

I am very surprised this is classed as a super family complex - Thomson’s standards are definitely dropping in that case.

On a good note if you are in a wheelchair then the complex is flat, bathroom has sliding door so room for wheelchair.

We stayed self Catering which was no problem because within a few steps of the apartments was a bigish supermarket.

The kitchen area was a bit sparse but you could get by.
The many places to eat near by made it a waste of you holiday to cook in the apartment.

The location could not have been better. Near to everything.

Staff were kind and helpful.

The entertainment wasn't very good but then we didn't stay in to watch that much. Too many other places to go.

Pools were very cold we spent most of our time on the lovely near by beaches.

We had a room in block E11 we had very little noise and none after midnight.

We had a lovely week there and would go back again. We found it very good value for money.

I requested to be on the ground floor as I have a 9 month old baby and a 5 year old. When we got there we were told that we were in E7 on the 3rd floor which has no lifts!

When my partner found out we went back to reception and were then changed to block E9 on the 2nd floor right outside the lift, which was certainly better. My parents who also came could not be moved into E9 as there was no availability which was a bit annoying as we had to carry the pushchair up and down flights of stairs when we went over to their room.

The hotel was clean and the cleaners came everyday except Wed and Sundays. The toilet in our room always smelt but overall our room was comfortable.

The room was cold at night and we had to ask for extra blankets. If you have a baby do bring sheets and a warm blanket.

The TV is a rip off- 1 Euro per Hour and we didn’t even get half the channels!

The location was excellent within walking distance from everything you could possibly want. The Beach is right across the road and is much better than the pool!! - Very cold did not go in as my little girls lips were blue after she got out!

The beach is a lot warmer than the hotel complex! And is a nice size as you can keep a close eye on your children whilst sunbathing!

Entertainment was okay the kids disco was on at 9pm but the adults entertainment went on till about 11.45p.m - The only thing I would say is don’t let your children come along with you to the Drag Queen Show as there is lots of swearing or The Spanish dancers Show as that was like having two lap dancers running around! They are definitely not suitable for children!

The kids Club was on at 10am till 12pm Mon to Sat and my daughter seemed to enjoy it, the staff were friendly and good with the children.

The hotel was at night time very noisy people up and down the stairs shouting and screaming, if you are after a quiet hotel this is not for you.

On arrival we were told our room would not be ready for another hour and were given a voucher for a free drink at the bar. Within 10 minutes, a staff member came and gave us our key. We had requested a room in block 11 and this was the block we were allocated. (Room 370).

The one bedroom apartment was spacious and spotlessly clean. The living area had a bed/setee, coffee table, pay tv on cabinet, dining table and four chairs. TV was 1 euro per hour and we found there were plenty of channels, including Sky movies.

Kitchen area had microwave, 2 rings, fridge, kettle and toaster - plus all crockery and cutlery you could ask for. The manager rang the room about half an hour after we went in to ask if everything was OK.

The bedroom was large with fitted wardrobes along one wall which contained a safe. If you needed to use the safe there was a small charge.

The balcony had a patio table and 4 chairs as well as a drying stand. The balcony was large and, again, spotlessly clean. No signs of beetles, etc.

When we got there, we had to wait an hour for the room, as it wasnt ready.

The staff were lovely, they were all ready to help.

The room was a lovely size, the beds were in a state and very uncomfortable. Every time one of us moved we both woke up because they were really squeaky.

The day entertainment was absolute rubbish, always cancelling things. I asked when things would be on, no staff seemed interested. There was kids club but not sure how good this was.

The tv was a total con, no channels as advertised, no sky sports, only thing that there really was Sky News. You had to pay 1 euro an hour for the tv and if you didnt watch it for that long, your money just went down anyway, what a rip off!

The pool was freezing, we watched a young child jump in and she just froze in the water, her dad had to jump in fully clothed to get her out. We didnt go in!

We just got back from our 2 weeks holiday yesterday, and I've never been so happy to leave a place before!!

I had read this board before going so I was looking forward to it, I was even able to request a room in one of the new blocks (E10 room 263) Which I got no problem.

Firstly let me give you the PRO's of this complex:

The staff were all very helpful and friendly.
Any problems with maintenence etc was dealt with extremely quickly and efficiently. We even got a call from the manager to check that the work had been carried out to our satisfaction, I thought this was a nice touch.

Towels were changed daily, loo rolls topped up and apartment cleaned daily.

Location is great for restaurants, beach and shops. The beach is just round the corner and is lovely!

The bedroom in our apartment was ENORMOUS (a good thing when you have nowhere to put your suitcases)

I never saw a single cockroach, not even one!!

We got a nice big balcony.

CON's:

This is by far the NOISIEST complex I have ever stayed in. You can hear every sound resounding down the corridors, footsteps, furniture scraping across the floors, people talking/laughing/shouting.

I would definately NOT recommend it for people wanting a peaceful relaxing holiday. We were kept awake every night, being woken up constantly.

The pool, well its already been mentioned by everyone else, but you have to try it to believe how cold it is!! My daughters normally spend the whole holiday in and around the pool, but they gave it a try and said it was like iced water. It took them ages to get warm again afterwards, and they refused to go in it again. In fact the pool on our side was always deserted, apart from the odd brave individual who tried their luck but never came back again.

The beds in the living area were really uncomfortable. The mattress on the camp bed was just like material stretched across springs, and had holes in and dubious stains (eww) We got this changed for a slightly better one, but still disgusting. I felt so sorry for the kids, they just kept saying how much they were missing their own beds back home.

The towels are really smelly! Even when they are replaced and are 'clean' they smell. We only used them sparingly and to sit on on the balcony. We took our own thankfully.

The pay TV is a rip off. It costs 1 euro for an hour and most of the channels are in foreign languages (?!)
We did get Sky news which was useful for keeping up to date but nothing else really worth watching.

The sofa was SO uncomfy, I think I have a bad back now!
We found the patio chairs more comfortable to sit on, but that gets a bit uncomfy after a while.

The entertainment was a bit naff. Darwin gets 11/10 for his energy and enthusiasm though, and he's a nice guy.
The bar was always packed with families sitting smoking whilst their babies tried to sleep in pushchairs til 11pm!

I hated the atmosphere, we did catch a good magic show though, only spoiled by other peoples kids getting in the guys way whilst their parents ignored his pleas to get them away from the stage. This seemed to happen every night though.

The kitchen is really tiny too. The smallest I've ever seen in SC accomodation. Not very well equipped either. It has 2 rings, a microwave a kettle and a toaster. The latter 2 sat on the dining table as there was no room for them in the 'kitchen' area. Nowhere to prepare food really, very disappointing. I'm sure the fridge was too warm, so I didnt buy meats etc. The freezer didnt keep things frozen, we just bought fresh food daily.

I would not stay here again, I hated it.

If you really want to go, try requesting room 363, its the one above where we were and had a big balcony like we did. It will only have people below so might be a little quieter than ours.

Location is Brillant, the hotel is situated in the best possible place on the resort. Hotel was clean but the blankets felt a bit itchy.

This is an ideal place for children aged 3 and above who can stay up late. I had a child that was just under 2 and she was not really catered for. But on the plus side spent a lot of quality time with her.

Hotel about 15 mins from airport, flight takes about 3hrs and 30 mins. Ideal for first holiday experience for baby.

The best thing about the Galeon is its location.
It is moments from the beach and right amongst the restaurants and shops.

In December there was no noise at night from these, even on New Years Eve! But there may be more in the summer months.
The Galeon is well maintained, inside and out.

Our room was cleaned 5/6 days, and the maid kept forming the towels into birds, butterflies etc.
The pools are spotless, but very cold - heating would improve matters.

We did not use the bars or the restaurants on the complex, though reports from other people were favourable.
The only gripe we had was that the mattresses on the beds were not very comfortable.

We would stay at this complex again.

We came to this hotel for Christmas and had a great time, despite our 5 year old being sick from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day!! Tip - don't let your children swallow sea water.....

Room was situated exactly where we had requested - in new block E8 - as recommended by previous reviews. It was spacious and clean, although the toaster fused the lights every time it was used!

The bathroom was clean, but although the towels were changed every day they were very smelly as if they had been stored in a damp place - I'd definately recommend that you take your own.

The biggest dwonside to this hotel is the noise - not from the bars but from general noise.....it is very echoey and not well soundproofed. You can hear every step taken in the room above - and the toilet....!! The doors bang loudly and have very irritating buzzers which can be heard from all over the rest of the block. You can also hear the echoes of running footsteps from several blocks away. Do not come to this hotel expecting peace and quiet!

Although my children did not use the Kids Club it seemed well attended and well run - the reps were great! However the children's disco was not held until 9 o'clock - far too late for my children. Tip - the mini disco in the 'Teguise Playa' (the posh hotel across the road) is fab - very well organised, at a sensible time and the children get a lolly at the end!!

The children's outside play area was good and we could see it from our room (254) so the children could play whilst we sat on the balcony. The general location of the hotel is good too - right on the beach with plenty of restaurants around. There are several beaches in the resort, some of which have more sheltered areas for paddling and swimming. Also, try the 'family' bikes for hire from a garage on the prom by the diving centre were brilliant fun!

Rancho Texas still remains our favourite excursion - we went on Christmas Day night and had a great time. The food is good and the drink plentiful - well worth the money. We also went back on Boxing Day during the day as the zoo etc is well worth a visit. There is plenty to see, a great children's play area and the food is good value.

The hotel pools are still freezing - try the sea, it's warmer!

ROOM 123 - Stayed at the Galeon Playa and wish we hadn't. On arrival it took 45 mins to check it, then we found our room. We were dismayed to find our room was dirty and smelly but the worst thing was we were right next to the bar. The electrics were dangerous with a wire trailing right over the bed. The bedroom did not have a proper window and as it was located under a passageway it was always dark. There was an "MFI" style wardrobe with broken drawers. The bathroom was equally horrendous with a stained bath. We complained immediately but the reception staff would not help us. They gave us the 24 no. for Thomsons but we got no reply.

We complained first thing the next morning after a sleepless night due to the constant noise. The rep finally arrived but was unhelpful and uncooperative, at one point walking off. We could not get a straight answer out of him. We showed him the room but he made no comment about it.

We phoned the helpline again. Apparently Thomsons have a "no worries" guarantee and if you have any problem they are supposed to have a trouble shooter to assit you within one hour. We never got any troubleshooter. The rep then said he would assist to get us moved and we waited and waited.

At around 6pm the rep then informed us that we would be moved the next day, meaning we had to spend another sleepless night in the horrendous room, we were exhausted and had not been able to have a shower due to the dirtiness of the bathroom.

The next day we were finally moved but the new room was not much better, it was just on the otherside of the passageway and had a dreadful drain smell. We had to buy our own air fresheners and have the windows open at all times.

We later found out that Thomsons know room 123 is a horrendous room but still use it as they want to pack in as many clients as possible.

We also found out the day before we arrived an elderly man had been placed in that room and also asked to be moved, and the day after we moved a couple were placed in that room and also complained about it.

Be very, very wary when booking this hotel, you don't know what kind of accommodation you are going to get and the reps don't want to know if there is any problem.

We have since complained to Thomsons in writing but again, they don't want to know and will not compensate us for the two lost days of our holiday and the distress they caused us.

We stayed at the Galleon Playa and found the hotel to be clean and well kept, the communal areas and also the rooms were of a very high standard. Some of the hotel blocks are newer than others but they all seem to be well looked after.

The Thompson Reps are very friendly and helpful, with great personalities, however the animation guys Wilko & Darwin are the real entertainers. They made the holiday great for my kids!

One downer is the pools, they are freshwater and the coldest I have ever encountered!! OMG!!

We would return to the Galleon without a doubt, but maybe make sure that there is guaranteed sun or else the pool would be out of bounds again!! Maybe the management at the Galleon could consider heating the pools!!!

We didn't go for entertainment so can't really comment but the Bowes and Belles drag artists did visit the Galleon and were absolutely brilliant!! We were not offended but I heard that some parents didn't think it appropriate for children, thing is you know what is coming with a drag act and if you don't want to hear the innuendo's then don't go to see it.

Last drop-off from the coach and wasn't too sure when we arrived, as we were told rooms weren't ready for another hour. Reception staff very friendly though and we were given a voucher for a free drink at the bar while we waited.

Room was good - in the old block (E2) overlooking the sea. Loads of space and very clean (although we did have to leave the plugs in sinks and bath to stop the usual "continental odour" escaping into the room during the evening)

Hotel location is great. Choice of beaches, bars and restaurants within easy walking distance.

Food in the restaurant was okay - nothing outstanding but we never went hungry.

All the staff were very friendly and efficient - had a problem with the water heater one evening. By the time we came back from dinner it had been replaced.

Staff in dining room (Patricia, her mother and sister) were lovely. So friendly and attentive - they all came out to see us on the last morning.

Can't comment on entertainment as we didn't use it although there was something going on most days.

Thompson reps very good - there for 6 hours a day but never pushy.

We booked our holiday a week before we left as it was a spur of the moment decision.

We were on the evening flight from Manchester and we arrived at the Hotel at about 2130hrs. There was a full bus full checking in and I finally got to the front of the queue (only one person checking people in) at about 2300 hrs. I was given a key and we proceeded to go to our room (105) I opened the door and it looked as if there the room was still occupied. I went back to reception and we were given another room. I again went to the new room and when I opened the door I was greeted with "hello, who's that". Oh dear, there were people in the room - I shut the door quickly and legged it back to reception. My patience was wearing thin!!! and my kids were very tired and grumpy. I got the keys to our third room and hurray it was empty. The location of this room (I think it was 315) was not ideal as it overlooked all the bars and was very noisy. It was 2330 by this time and we just wanted to get to our beds and we would deal with the room issue the next morning.

Next day, I spoke to the rep saying how unhappy we were with the service the previous night and I requested that we were given a different room. The hotel were quick to deal with our needs and promptly offered us room 104. I had a quick look at the room and we were very happy with it.

We went to the kids entertainment every night and top marks to Darwin he was great. There was the kids disco every night followed by the entertainment for the adults.

Despite all our problems on our first night, there was a bottle of champagne left for us in our room courtesy of Thomson complete with a letter of apology. A very nice and unexpected gesture.

We never went on any of the trips. We found them to be pretty expensive and the main aim of having a holiday was to chill out for the week and that is exactly what we did.

My main complaint with the hotel was the pool. It was freezing and I would go as far to say it was Baltic. There was hardly anyone going in it as it was that cold. Darwin managed to get me in the pool playing volleyball and I was still shivering an hour after we had finished!!!!!!!!!

Thank you to this site which enabled us to request new block e8 room 152.

What a fantastic holiday we had. The weather was hot the staff were fantastic especially kids club.

If you want a night out you must try the Texas ranch eat drink and have fun it's free.

Now I must disagree with a few people on here, we went self catering but still tried the restaurant on site we did not have a bad meal there it was hot and good and plenty of it, so give it a go.

The complex is very well placed for everything you want from bars to beaches fabulous and well done to Thomson's

Excellent place to stay and we will be going back but on half board this time. Only had 3 ants and 1 cochroach in room but boy can they move.

The kids club was very well organised especially Princess Paul (sorry pirate Paul) and Suzie and all the rest. They kept the kids going for hours.

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday, made so by staying in this great hotel, from the moment we arrived the staff were friendly and helpful, I had requested a room in the new block (after reading reports from this wonderful site) and was given one in block 9, can't fault it, clean, spacious, and well equiped.

The location is excellent, right next to two beaches, a two minute walk and you are there, also to shops and restaurants, so central.

The reps were helpful, without being pushy, and they were there every morning, all morning.

We didn't use the children's reps, but they seemed popular and cheerful.

The entertainment was in a very small bar, not our scene, and we did experience some noise being right across from it, but nothing to worry about.

So so many great eating places here, I think we tried most of them and did not have a bad meal, we did try the buffet at the Galeon one night and would rate it just ok.

We will definately return to this hotel, and to this resort as we all enjoyed it so much, especially the nice cool breeze.

We have just returned from this hotel, and in our opinion one of the best we have stayed in, I had faxed before leaving and requested a top floor apartment, in the quieter blocks, on arrival we were allocated just what we wanted.

The apartment was spacious, well equipped, and very clean, as was the whole hotel. The reps were on hand, but cannot comment as never had to use them, same for the children reps, and entertainment. The buffet restaurant we only used once, it was fine, but preferred all the outside venues, which in our opinion was way better.

The location is excellent, just a two minute walk to either beach, and shops. We just loved it here and would definitely return.

This is the first time we have stayed ay Galeon Playa, although having spent the last 6 years on holiday in Costa Teguise we were aware of its location. We knew it was a Super-Family hotel before we booked. Although it was not half term there were quite a few children on site. With a few exceptions this did not bother us to much.

The hotel staff and Thomsons Reps combined to ensure that everthing was done to make sure our stay was happy and enjoyable. With this particular "Reps Team" there was no hard sell for trips, if you asked the question you were given all details, and if you wanted to book then it was done immediately. The soft a
