Have just returned from a wonderful break at the Coronas Playa. I found everything about this hotl to bee exceptional, the food was great and plentiful, there were some weird combinations, or so I thought, until I tried them myself and had a pleasant surprise. I cannot for the life of me understand what people complain about, the breakfasts were varied enough, from fruit through to full English, are my expectations lower than others? The evening meals were lovely too, I decided that rather than turn my nose up at some of the food, I'd try things out, it is a buffet, so if you didn't like what you had chosen, go and try something else. The booze was expensive, but unfortunately, Spain is no longer the cheap place it was, we did buy duty free on the way over, so we would have a couple of drinks before we went out to offset the cost, the bars over the road were slightly cheaper, on our second last nite, we found a bar in the centre, which is a 15-20 minute walk (or 3 euros in a taxi) which only charged 4 euros for a gin and tonic and a beer, the spirts were probably locally produced but at the price, who's caring!

The hotel was kept in tip top condition, the general areas, as you would expect were lovely, but so too were the rooms. We e-mailed to get an upgrade and paid on arrival, our room overlooked the top swimming pool, which had the sun in the balcony all day, so if we didn't feel like going to the pool that was always an alternative.

I must admit, I did enjoy the entertainment, I didn't think I would have, again I'm not sure what people are looking for when they go on holiday, it doesn't matter where you go, it's all the same. The reps, in my opinion were great, Lewis and Carys had me in stitches most days, their antics were a joy to behold, they managed to keep most people entertained each day, I never joined in and was never forced to, so that was fine by me. The evening entertainement was fine too, there were tribute bands, which we thought were quite good, on our visit we saw Elvis and The Beatles who were entertaining enough, if we didn't like the look of who was on that evening, we just went over to a karaoke bar over the road.

The hotel staff were very pleasant, it does help that the reception staff could speak English, I did like the refreshment on arrival too, I thought that was a nice touch. The waiters and waitresses in the dining room were pleasant, on your first evening at the hotel, the matre D will speak to you to let you know what the routine is, it's the first time that this has happened and I liked the idea, I really hate going into a dining room and trying to find out what to do and where to sit.

One of my friends recommended the hotel to me and I'm glad she did, I too would have no hesitation in doing the same.

We arrived at the hotel at lunchtime on our 25th wedding anniversary and were made very welcome. We had emailed the hotel previous to arrival to ask if they did anything special for anniversaries but they told us definitely NO. Our room was very spacious and very clean, overlooking the bottom pool where the daytime entertainment took place. There was a lot of space on the balcony and the sun was on there most of the afternoon. After reading the book in the room on arrival, it became apparent that they do things for special occasions including birthday cakes, special meals etc. but, of course, it was too late for our anniversary. When I questioned the Manager at his cocktail party, it appears that the Reception manager thought I wanted some sort of special treatment for nothing and was a misunderstanding, so I never got any sort of celebration, just an apology.
The food was plentiful and well cooked, we never had an evening when we couldn't find anything to eat. we did go to the chinese restaurant a couple of doors away one night for a change, and would highly recommend the food there. We had our lunch at Steptoes most days, but this was more expensive than the hotel pool bar.
The daytime entertainment was excellent, and our thanks go to Louis, Laura and her replacement Cerys who were really great and always approachable. If you did not want to take part then that was fine, no pressure is put on you.
The evening entertainment was not really my thing, dont like acrobats or dancers, although we did go and see the Beatles and Abba Tribute bands who were very good.
There is a promenade at the back of the hotel which leads to the main part of Costa Teguise. The back of the hotel is a bit of a let down, looks derelict and has grafitti on it. If you were on holiday and passing the back of the hotel, you would never think it was the place it is.
We spent a lot of evenings in the Monkey Bar where it is bogof between 11 p.m. and 12 p.m.on San Miguel and cocktails. The entertainment in there consists of a a duo twice a week called the Harrison Brothers who are good but do the same act with the same songs twice every week. Also is a spanish singer once a week, he is really talented. We also spent evenings in Dickens next door where they show dvds of concerts robbie williams, sting, etc. if that is your cup of tea. The atmosphere in here is good and the drinks cheap.
There was never a problem finding a sunbed, no need to put towels down. However, it was very windy and your sandals would get blown away so you had to hang on to your things. Some mornings it was quite chilly, but warmed up during the morning.
all in all, we had a good holiday and would probably one day go back, but the world is too big a place.

this hotel is spotless the maids work very hard and clean every day fresh towels daily. and nice touch having hotel issue towels daily for the pool etc.food was good but repetative.(especially breakfast).table wine was astronoically high priced. as was the beer and shorts in the bars. entertainment was mediocre. not to bad if you like circus acts 2 or 3 every week.first week we had a very ordinary comedian second week was a lot better.thomson team did their best but although very hard working were clearly out of there depth.tribute bands were an absolute load of **** .the elvis singer especially. my missus sounds more like elvis than he did. after the second number we went out and over to the bars outside.the so called music in the monkey bar was two duos alternating nights. also not very good. these people seem to think if you turn up the volume enough you will drown out the mistakes.(dont think so). wont be doing this one again

we have just come back from a 7 day break at the coronas playa on the 16th july 2008 room big and basic but if you are in the 400's rooms dont expect a lay in as we were woken up every morning with delivery vans, cleaners and radio's blaring from 6:30 onwards.
rooms cleaned every day.
food mostly the same each day.
hotel staff friendly.
usual thomson entertainment but we saw an acrobatics group which i would class as juvernile it was quite embarresing to watch.
i do not class this as a four star hotel at all as we have been to better ones.
would we go again no it has also made us reconsider our holiday for next year, it may be time to try another tour company, quite disapointing.

Have just returned from a 10 day break at this hotel, having been before I knew what to expect and as usual it lived up to my expectations.
The staff are friendly and pleasant, the rooms are large and are cleaned every day, the balconies are of a size that you can spend all day out in the sun on your balcony.
THe food on this occasion was good but the combinations of vegetables with the main course was a little odd, brussel sprouts on one occasion on italian night.
The entertainment was tribute bands and the one most likely to disappoint was the Elvis impersonator who kept doing costume changes.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to chill out and relax.

Our third visit to this particular hotel. We keep going back because we now know the high level of service and attention to detail. Although the standard rooms are basic (no tea/coffee makings, etc)they are huge. We have found that the rooms on the top floor to the left as you go out to the pools get the sun on the balcony most of the day...glorious!! The rooms closest to the road can be noisy at night in peak season, so avoid if possible. Also, there is one room on the top floor (in the 400's) that has an air conditioner on the roof, which can also be very noisy! If you email the hotel directly a couple of weeks before going, they make no promises but will try to accommodate your requests.
The Thompson excursions are a bit pricey and not to everyones tastes, but a couple of them are okay if it's your first visit to the island. We found that with two days car hire, you can go to exactly the same places as the excursions but at a fraction of the cost. Also, you don't have to wait around for the coach when you've had enough!!
A large majority of the visitors were retired couples, which we (both 47)found fine. Big bonus....NO KIDS! We've had, brought up, and got rid of our kids, so we loved not having others offspring spoiling our relaxation!
All in all, a great place to stay for the price (try Portland Direct on line for the best prices) and we would recommend it to anyone who wants to unwind and relax.

The Management and staff of Coronas Playa have got it right! It is very hard to find a criticism of this place, from the time you are greeted on arrival with a cold drink in reception to your departure you are looked after in every sense.
The transfer time from the airport is minimal,(15 mins.), check-in is quick and efficient with English staff on duty.

The hotel rooms are huge, pleasantly decorated, spotlessly clean and have the largest balcony area I've seen. You have several English language TV. channels as standard(mostly news) but can get BBC,ITV Ch4 and a few others for 3 Euro's per day.

The variety and quality of the food available at all meals is as good as that of any hotel I've stayed at,including some 5 star establishments. It would be difficult for even the most fussy of eaters not to find something to their liking.

The vast majority of staff on duty are very friendly and helpful and carry out their duties briskly.

Two large swimming pools are immaculately kept and there is a plentiful supply of loungers, with beach towels available for a small deposit.

Entertainment is a strong feature of Thomson gold hotels and it lives up to expectations at Coronas Playa with top quality acts playing in both the Pavilion theatre and the "Monkey Bar".

Drinks measures in the Hotel bars can be disappointingly small but if this is a priority then more traditionally generous ones are available at nearby bars.

The bulk of shops, restaurants and good beaches are about 15-20 mins. walk from the hotel but this is along a pleasant seaside promenade.

In summary,my wife and I were so pleased with our holiday we have decided to return to this hotel later this year - something we have never done in 25 years of holidaying abroad!

Travelling - from Cardiff, everything went like clockwork, we walked into Arricife Arrivals to find our luggage coming straight at us as we arrived at the collection belts, straight out into a nice coach, and after about 40 mins we started off for the hotel. The drive was 20 mins and everyone on the coach was for our hotel (40 odd people) so when we arrived at the Hotel we had a good 25 min delay standing in reception queued for our rooms.

The return journey started smoothly but inside the departure lounge they called our gate, and we stood like lemons for 50 mins with no explanation. We were an hour late arriving at Cardiff, and as usual, the baggage handlers there took a good 40 mins to start the belt up in the arrivals hall. One of our two cases came in the first five mins, the second one arrived 20 mins later. Thank you Cardiff Airport!

The important bit - Hotel
Layout - The accomodation & facilities are set out in the shape of a very very large number 8 when viewed from above. i.e. two large quadrangles. There are two equal sized pools, one in each quadrangle, with a connecting path between them. Both pools are overlooked and surrounded by balconied apartments, and each has it's own pool bar. The 'top' pool near reception has a proper kitchen and produces a range of simple fare at lunch times (pizza, burgers, baguettes, etc), which is reasonably priced. The lower pool has a more restricted menu and was located nearer to the sea.

The pool areas are well kept, and modern. The water could be a little cold, take an ice pick along! During our two weeks, the first week we had no problem getting a nice sunbed with a shade, but as we approached our second week it got a bit competitive. Service at both hotel pool bars was typically Spanish, with the top pool being table service (if you stand at the bar they will serve the waiters first anyway!) and depending on who the waiter was, and how many people were using the area at a given time, you could be in for a lengthy wait for that desperately needed coke or beer. It was often quite a long wait for the bill after you'd finished, I think this is deliberate hotel policy to make it appear the bar is busier than it really is.

Drinks prices and measures are, unfortunately, a serious issue here. A beer served in a San Miguel glass (at all times) tastes like yak pee. Everyone agreed, there is NO WAY this is San Miguel, and I noticed that there was no label on the beer pump, it was just shiney chrome and blank. Same goes for the beer in the bar near reception 'the Monkey Bar' where the beer was served in S.M. Glasses but tasted like pee. The price was 2.80 for this. In resort, you could get vastly superior beers nearby for 1.60 and they were the real deal, though some of the nearer bars charged more, knowing what the hotel prices were, no doubt! The shorts were also 'short' and in a narrow, six inch high glass you got about 30mm of spirit poured VERY carefully over two enormous ice cubes, and got charged 3.80 for that, with an extra 1.20 for a mixer (coke, tonic, dry ginger etc) which made a round of one beer and one short with a mixer cost nearly 9 Eu. I tackled the barman about the short measured 'shorts' and he was clearly agitated to be asked. All he would say was it was Hotel policy. On resort, my wife ordered the same drink in a nearby bar, and it nearly knocked her off her feet - the difference in strength was remarkable. I expect value for money within reason, at least, but it has to be said, the Hotel is completely exploiting the 'captive' residents and should be ashamed of itself for being so blatant. A LITRE bottle of Smirnoff can be bought for 9.97 Eur in the nearby Netos Supermarket (if you buy two, the second one is just 6.97) - exit the hotel entrance, walk out to the roadside, turn right and keep going for approx 150 metres, on the same side as the hotel. A litre of Smirnoff 9.97 or a small shot of it at the bars in the hotel 3.80! Do the maths!!

To add insult to injury, the Hotel owner's orange Lambourghini was more often than not parked right out front. (no, I am NOT kidding).

Rooms are large, well lit, spacious with good sized balconies. Well kept, clean bedding every other day, clean towels every day, toileteries etc renewed as required. There is a 15" TV which picks up Sky News but to receive BBC1 & ITV you have to pay 3 Eur a day. Same with the safe located in the wardrobe. If you need it, you have to pay 3 Eur a day. Nice bathroom, water ran cold once in a two week stay, approx 6pm so be sure to bathe / shower early, unless we had a one off glitch. If you like using your balcony as we do, you may be disappointed if you are NOT on the highest level, because the tapered building facace means that if you have anyone above YOU on a higher level, they can see 80% of your balcony area at all times. We were ok, being on the highest floor, but we could see down and across over several balconies both left and right.

Reception is efficient, friendly, very helpful and oddly, everyone seems British so communication is very easy indeed. The Restaurant is nicely laid out with views over the pool area in the periferal area, or, nearer to the food counters it is a simple dining hall. Food was very good with a few main meal choices each night. Watch out for the Sea Bass, it was particularly good. Breakfast's were repetitive, but with a little imagination you could easily vary your choices to make it interesting, and, there was a wide selection even though it was a little repetitious - just be prepared to vary your choices and you'll be fine! The evenings drinks have to be paid for when exiting the restaurant, the gentleman usually on that desk was particularly nice and gets our top employee vote. Nothing pretentious about him, just a cool, friendly and well educated Lanzarotarian.

Entertainment - If you have done a Thomson Gold before you will know the format. Alternate days the Thomson employees 'entertainment team' put on some kind of show at 10pm, alternating days we had a 'bought and paid for act' which, during our stay comprised mostly of Tribute bands. We had an Otis Redding / James Brown (very good) Beatles (top knotch) Elton John (not sure, the volume was so loud it was unenjoyable) and a very good comedian. The other nights were very poor and we have done five of these 'Gold' hotels and have to say the entertainment has been ok at all of them, with Atlantica Bay, Rhodes, being exceptional. There, the Thomson entertainment team seemed to be people from proper stage school, properly trained, good dancers and singers, and we enjoyed every night, be it the team, or alternate nights, the 'act'. At the Coronas Playa, it was a very different story with the team being worked to death by Thomsons, who clearly were not spending enough of our hard earned money on entertaining us.

I feel sorry for the team, because they were a lovely friendly bunch, but they were not supported by a professional enough singer / dancer and were thus punching above their weight.

In conclusion then, nice hotel, good food, good service except all bars, drinks absurdly expensive, poor beach, pools ok but cold, and entertainment needs £££££ spending on it. This has put us off GOLD and we will be doing something else next year after this experience.

Excellent Hotel more laid back than the other Thomson Gold hotels we have stayed in, and a greater mix of ages, I would say the average age would probably work out to be about 45,lots of couples in the early to late twenties

Food was typical hotel food, however, plenty of choice and tasty, although poor in the desserts department.

Staff were excellent but clearly not enough of them quite often you would only have two or three waiters serving a few hundred people and getting a drink could involve quite a long wait.

The same problem was also apparent in the dining room with people being stopped from coming in whilst they cleared tables and we were sat with dirty dishes from every course on the table, but that aside couldn't really fault it and would definitely go back.

If you have any requests - email hotel prior to your departure. They are very accommodating!

Room - big but basic.

Don't pay to upgrade room - take a kettle etc!
Food - good - but lack of choice and plain.

Hire a car to see the island and don't use supermarkets in resort - much better and larger ones just outside the resort.

Lots of local birds - very tame - they love digestive biscuits! They will eat out of your hand!

If you are young or very young at heart you will probably find this hotel too quiet! The majority of the guests who stay here are pensioners or coming up to that age. We don't mind this age group, but we did find it very quiet!

As for the hotel entertainment - we didn't go to the evening entertainment but we could here it loud and clear from our room - and that was enough for us!

We only visited this hotel on a late deal for just 2 days (3 nights) in the Middle of February.

Possibly one of the best short breaks we have taken outside the UK.

As others have said before me the hotel was totally spotless both in the rooms (which were massive) and outside also (the Resort was also spotless, it should be said)

We were a bit unsure about the weather as we have had experiences before when visiting spain early in the year, but the suntan after 2 days speaks for itself!

Only ate in the restraunt 1 night as we were on a romantic break and the hotel restraunt, which although very nice, was not particularly condusive to romance. The resort is full of fine Italian (and many, many chinese) restraunts so other eating options were not a problem. Breakfast were also pretty good by the way

Nothing particularly bad to say about the place. All in all a great break at fantastic Hotel.

This is the second Thomson Gold that we have stayed in in the last 6 months and to say that it lives up to it's 4 star is an understatement.

Food.
The food at this hotel is of a very high standard and if any thing is not quite right it is very soon rectified.
Rooms.

The room's are very large and are absolutely spotless.
Staff.

The staff can only be described as not only the most friendly you will find, but also the most highly trained.
Entertainment.

The Thomson team work very hard and can only be described as fantastic only to be complimented by a very professional duo The Score who undoubtedly help the young entertainers with there vast experience.

I can only say we cant wait until January 2008 to return to this hotel.

This hotel has to be one of the cleanest ones we have stayed in.

The cleaners here don't just push the dust from one part of the hotel to another they do clean it. This place is spotless right down to the pool area.

The food was to a good Gold Hotel standard with a wide choise the only fault I would say was that the hot food at breakfast time was only warm and never hot.

Set on the outskirts of the resort it was a 20 minute walk to main bars, there was a few bars near the hotel some selling beer for 1.50 euros a pint. Nice walk from the back of the hotel along the new prom to the resort with nice sea views.

I must say that the staff were very good our cleaner Loly was very nice and cheerful and in the restaurant Alberto made our stay.

All the staff speak good English I think some of them were English one of the bar staff I am not sure of, he used to call me Messieur not sure if he thought I was French or if he was French.

We go to Gold Hotels because there are no kids not the entertainment, but did watch the show new years eve they got a singer from Ibiza, the best thing they could have done was left him there and got one from one of the many bars in resort. But if you like this sort of entertainment and a lot of people do then it most be ok.

Would we go again? Yes great hotel but with three other islands to go to it may be a few years as it is Tenerife's turn next New Year (2007/8)

Myself and my partner stayed for 2 weeks in November at the Coronas and we had a fantastic time.

All areas of the hotel were spotless due to the hard work of all the staff .Bed linen changed reguarly as were the towels. All staff were excellent providing excellent customer service 24/7.

The food was out of this world no matter what time you walked in that dining room. The only gripe I had about this holiday was the price of drinks especially in the dining room. The bottles of wine were very expensive considering how much they were in the local supermarkets often 4x the price. Spirit measures were also small in the entertainment bars.

We used to enjoy sitting outside Steptoes opposite the hotel which were much bigger measures at a much fairer price !

We had a fantastic relaxing holiday and would definitely return.

We were a couple. I am in my 40,s and my partner is in his 50,s.

Just returned fron Coronas Playa. Excellent rooms, very spacious & spotless. Towels changed every day & bedding every other. We had rooms 607 and 607 which I can recommend, close to reception & dining with a lovely view of the top 'quiet' pool, the lower pool being the place for the games/quizzes

Reception staff very friendly, can't do enough for you and always a smiley face happy to help

Far enough out of the way, so a gentle walk into the centre but good to walk off your evening meal, although bars next door, Dickens and across the road, Rock Garden

Always plenty of food and there wasn't any repetition in the 11 days we were there

Very quiet due to the age of the clientelle and there being no chilren allowed, bliss!

Something going on during the day thanks to LJ and Dave, a credit to Thomson these 2

Would definately recommend to others and hope to return

Travelled with my parents, 60+, and even though my partner and I are in our 30's we had a relaxing time and didn't feel out of place

Had almost a week of lovely weather, into the late 70's which I think is great for Nov/Dec time, couple of cloudy days and rain on the last, we left with the forecast of tropical storms that evening! Oh dear for those arriving on that day! Ps, cardigan/light coat needed at night due to the breeze but not every night thankfully

Top hotel, lovely relaxing holiday *****

This is very well run hotel and very clean and is ideal for the older clientelle.

Nati in the restaurant is very kissy, kissy with the guests and the older ones love it. Most of the staff walk around with a big beam on their face.

We had room 501 on the 2nd floor and being an end room was absolutely massive.

The restaurant is not too bad but the buffet area seems too small for the amount of guests and the food is basic English food with a lack of vegetables.

There is very little nearby and about 10 mins walk to Teguise centre.

A big plus for us was that it was no smoking in the hotel building.

The staff were very good and the entertainment hosts were very good.

We may visit again probably in about ten years time when we are pensioners.

Hotel Coronas Playa

Located about 20 minutes walk from the resort centre, and thus not plagued by the noise of late-night revelries, the hotel is built in the modern low-rise ziggurat style offering sun on all balconies.

Twin rooms are big enough to sleep four people in ample space. They are furnished with superbly firm beds. Bed linen is changed every other day and towels are changed daily.

Room televisions offer only CNN as an English language channel when a BBC or Sky channel would better suit the almost entirely British clientele. Rooms have a fridge in which you may put your own drinks and there is a hair dryer in the bathroom.

The restaurant is all buffet and offers a very wide choice of food geared towards British tastes with a Spanish option for all meals plus a pasta choice at dinner.

In late September the average age of holidaymakers was over sixty but they were a very lively lot and many took full advantage of the activities organised by Thomson’s “hosts”.

The Thomson entertainment staff are excellent and even if you don’t join in the activities there is plenty of amusement to be had from simply watching. In the daytime, this takes place around one of the hotel’s two big pools. The other pool is separated from the first by a line of rooms which provides some sound insulation and is thus fairly quiet.

Facilities are good except that the gym has no view out and is not well-equipped.

If you spend your evening out of your bedroom, whether in the hotel’s own Pavilion Bar or off the premises, you will not be disturbed by the noise from excellent the evening entertainment which ends at midnight.

If you retire to bed early then you are likely to prefer rooms 220 to 240 (ground floor [garden rooms]), 241 to 262 (garden suites) or rooms 320 to 340 (first floor, better sea views) or 429 to 447 (top floor, even better sea views). Rooms 421 to 425 offer top floor sea views over a pool. Rooms 301 to 316 look towards the sea over the same pool but being lower offer less of a view.

Hotel staff and the Thomson staff are excellent, friendly and offer very good service.

The hotel definately didn't have a 'wow factor' on arrival. It's a very basic, though sprawling complex, and strangely most rooms do not face the sea, but are based around two swimming pools!

We've stayed at many hotels with Thomsons over the last 10 years, and wouldn't rate the facilities or accomodation 4 star.

That said, the accomodation though very clean, is also very spartan. We were on holiday with friends and on our arrival we asked to be transferred to other rooms as the 'Garden Suite' rooms we were allocated had an 'Ant Problem'(And offered little or no privacy at all).

The Thomson team leader was particularly unhelpful and patronising at first and kept on repeating that this hotel was a Gold hotel and had a very good rating, but after informing the reception of the ant problem, the hotel staff responded immediately, spraying the rooms.

We were eventually offered new accomodation (although we were told that the hotel was fully booked). One to thing to keep in mind is that if you want to book a late check out room, you should talk to the reps at the beginning of the holiday, not at the end to avoid disappointment!

On the plus side, the hotel staff we're very friendly and helpful and the food was very good, both breakfast and the evening meal. A good choice of fruit and vegatables was on offer and the bread was always fresh, morning and evening.

We wouldn't go back again, but the couple we went with would. Which goes to show you can't please everyone!

Fantastic hotel just had 2 weeks of bliss didn't want to come home. Our maid Louisa was superb folded up clothes if you left them out room was spotless she also folded hotel towels into swans and boats very clever.

The food in the restaurant was very good we had been here before so we knew what to expect from Nati the maitre d she kisses everyone lovely lady she remembered us from 2 years ago bought a bottle of wine to our table as a thank you for returning.

The Thomson reps were very good.

Our only gripe was some of the male bar staff had a bit of a attitude a smile now and again wouldn't have hurt.

Evening entertainment good would definitely come back here again.

The Coronas Playa is one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in! The daily maid service was very efficient, towels were changed daily and bedding every couple of days.

The food was varied and there was enough to suit all tastes - and all of a very high standard.

If you are after a loud and lively holiday this is not the place for you. it is a quiet and relaxing hotel, and the entertainment focuses on the lower pool area during the day, so that if you want total peace and quiet their upper pool is almost silent!

The daily entertainment was good, and the evening shows were excellent, with a mix of in-house and speciality acts, concluding at around midnight in the pavilion. The Monkey Bar provides entertainment after this time for those who still want it.

The Thomson reps and hotel staff were excellent. All very friendly, courteous and very helpful. The reps in particular deserve a pat on the back for giving 110% effort to everything they do, and also being very knowledgeable about the area.

We wanted a holiday for couples only - and it was very quiet and relaxing, although catering to an older clientele of 50+ in our opinion -(and I mean that with no disrespect to anyone!)

We have just returned from a weeks holiday to the Coronas Playa. This was our first visit to a Thomson Gold hotel and I can honestly say it won't be our last. If this hotel is an indication of the level of service that can be expected from Thomson Gold hotels, it don't think we will ever do anything else.

The service from the hotel staff, right from our arrival, was superb. Everyone went out of their way to ensure we had a great holiday. All staff were very pleasant, friendly and helpful.

We had a Garden Suite with Sea View and what a view that was. Everything was spotless, and our cleaner left everything sparkling each day. The towels were changed daily and the bed was also changed a couple of times during our stay.

The Thomson, local interest Ref, Leigh was lovely and took us on a ramble to the three nearest beaches and the town centre. The whole team put in a lot of effort and for the first time on a holiday we stayed in for the entertainment every night.

We returned feeling very happy and refreshed so a very well done to all at the Coronas Playa.

I feel compelled to complete this review partly as a thank you to all the staff at the Coronas Playa. My husband and I wanted a quiet holiday without having to be around a lot of families with young children, and the hotel certainly gave us that. Having stayed at hotels previously that catered more for families it was really refreshing to stay here. The staff and the entertainment team, reps, everything is geared to ensure that your holiday is as good, if not better, as you had hoped for. Thank you Coronas for a brilliant fortnight.

Booked a sea view suite, but could not see the sea unless you stood on a chair because of concrete wall, quite a walk from the suite to the main building and up steps. Suite very clean if a little bland, daily maid service very good.

Two good size pools with plenty of space and no sunbed rush required.

Staff service a bit hit and miss especially in the monkey bar after main evening meal, but in general staff very good.

About a mile from the resort centre but good walk to burn off the calories.

Not an attractive hotel a bit like concrete bunkers but relaxing with no screaming kids. Very windy.

My husband and I stayed at the Coronas Playa to celebrate my 40th birthday! We had a fantastic time and can't wait to return.

It is our first Thomson Gold holiday and certainly won't be our last. It was lovely having no children running around and the standards of the hotel and the service we received was 100%.

The rooms are huge and extremely clean. The towels were changed daily and the bedding every other day! You really could not fault the rooms!

The food was to die for ! We did say at the beginning of our holiday that we would eat out some of the evenings even though we had paid half board - but we really could not justify it! There was so much choice of food - everything for anyone's taste! The meat in particular was always of good quality and not what you would normally get abroad.

The staff were very very nice ! Always helpful and gave you service with a smile!!!! Even the reception staff were great!

The weather was not great when we were there. You definitely needed a jacket or cardigan - especially at night. We did not let the weather spoil our holiday though - the sun always came out - even if it was for just a couple of hours. Our last 5 days were fantastic though !!

On my birthday, the staff came out with a lovely birthday cake during our evening meal and sang happy birthday !!! We even had a few free drinks during the day which was a lovely touch !!

I have heard many reviews about the entertainment being poor! Quite a few reviews say its like going to Blackpool ! I have to say that myself and my husband really enjoyed the entertainment! The resident duo were very good and also a laugh. There was a different show every night - magic shows, jugglers, circus acts. If you are out for a good time then you will enjoy the entertainment!

We hope to go back to the Coronas Playa in September - funds permitting!

My husband and I just came back from a two week stay at the Coronas Playa yesterday and it is the first time we have felt compelled to post a review to one of these sites.

We had a wonderful time here and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for rest and relaxation. Definitly a plus with no kids allowed under 16!

All areas of the hotel where spotless including our bedroom (with thanks to the lovely Mary)- a pleasant change from other hotels where the rooms do not match the public areas!!.

The food was very good with lots of choices and we only ate out on 2 occasions out of the fortnight. The Staff were the friendliest and most helpful we have came across -particularly in the dining room, and were always smiling.

The hotel location was about 10 mins walk from the centre of town, but one of the ways into the main area was a lovely walk along the path by the sea and a most welcome way to let some of the food settle at night. It did get quite cold and windy at night which usually for us meant a taxi back which cost just under 3 euros.

There were enough bars, some with Sky sports, beside the hotel though if you did want to stay nearby. We did not catch a lot of the entertainment (due to watching the Golf Masters on telly!!) but what we did see was very good, especially the Four Tops tribute band.

The hotel had everything we needed, although it could be a bit quiet for those looking for livelier surroundings.

All in all for us, a perfect holiday.

My wife and I have just returned from a week at the Coronas Playa, and have provided a fairly detailed review, which we hope will assist in your deliberations.

Both flights from and to Birmingham were delayed (on return by almost 2 hours), the reason given that the plane was delayed on its previous flight back to the UK from Cancun. However transfer from the airport is around 20 minutes, with very little aircraft noise at the hotel.

Weather. The weather was excellent, no rain all week. A couple of days started cloudy, but the sun generally burnt through by mid-morning. Lanzarote is renowned for being a windy island, and so it proved. Whilst refreshing, it does lead into a false sense of security and we saw a number of people who were clearly suffering from sunburn.

Location.
The hotel is situated outside of Costa Teguise, although it is only a 10-15 minutes stroll along the paved seafront to get there. Whilst on the coast, due to the rocks there is no direct access to the sea. However there is a beach with sea access around 200 yards away. The hotel is situated on the main road from Arrecife to Costa Teguise, with buses and taxi’s readily available. There are a number of shops, bars, restaurants etc. in the immediate location (including 3 supermarkets!). An ATM machine is also located within 50 yards of the main entrance.

Rooms.
Generally we agree with the majority of the comments here. The rooms are much bigger than average (we estimated that it was around 36 foot in length from the entrance door to the patio door), and whilst simply furnished, were comfortable (if slightly echoey). The beds were firm, but comfortable. Our room was on the ground floor behind the pavilion (essential a large tent where the evening entertainment is held). Once this had finished at 12:00 midnight, it was very quiet. There are also some Garden Villa’s situated adjoining the lower pool. Although not physically attached to the hotel, I don’t believe they were any bigger, and certainly their patio areas were not private. Upgraded rooms are available (both on booking or on arrival), but these are no different to the other rooms, they simply have tea/coffee making facilities and towelling dressing gowns. Our advice would be buy a travel kettle from Argos before you go (they cost less than £10) and either pack some tea bags or coffee, or buy it when you get there from the local supermarket.

The hotel itself is on a very large plot, and therefore if you are in one of the rooms close to the sea, you are quite a distance from the reception area and restaurant. Although it is on split-levels, ramps have been installed for the less mobile and there are lifts between floors.

Facilities.
The hotel does not offer a lot of additional facilities, other than the swimming pools. Tennis and squash is available (at an additional charge, €6 per hour for the tennis), but most people seem to just want to sit around the pool. The hotel has two separate pool areas, one known as the ‘noisy’ pool, and the other the ‘quiet’ pool. In our view interpret this as the ‘quiet’ and ‘very quiet’ pool. The hotel was virtually full during our stay, however there was no problem in getting sun-beds and there is loads of space if you want to sit in quiet isolation contemplating whatever.

Staff.
The hotel staff were excellent. The reception staff speak perfect English (the one receptionist told us that he had been brought up in England to Spanish parents). The other staff were also very competent and nothing was to much trouble.

Food.
Whilst the quality of the food was good, it was rather monotonous, and clearly geared to the traditional roast and two veg style. However the salad starters and abundance of fresh fruit for desert was good although we were disappointed to find no coffee was available after the meal. (You had to go to the bar if you wanted one.) If we had been on a two-week stay, we would certainly have eaten out more.

Entertainment.
This is co-ordinated by the Thomson entertainment team, who put on the usual ‘killer’ darts, pool, bean-bag boules etc. during the day, and then host the evening entertainment. This generally consisted of local acts (River dance tribute, Chinese acrobats, Argentinean dancing etc.), and a resident duo. The acts were generally good (the Four Tops tribute band were excellent if you like Motown music) and the Argentinean act is also recommended, although I won’t spoil it by saying why.

Summary.
The Coronas Playa is a Thomson ‘Gold’ hotel, and as evidenced by the certificates in the reception area, has been their ‘Gold’ hotel of the year on numerous occasions. This was our 3rd visit to a ‘Gold’ hotel, and we had been told by Thomson reps at other resorts that this was considered to be the best. However whilst not disappointed, other than for the size of the rooms, we did not consider it to be any better than the other two we had stayed in.

Whilst not wishing in any way to detract from the hotel, it is in our view deliberately geared towards a particular type and age of tourist, i.e. average age of 60+ looking for a ‘home-from-home’ in the sunshine, where they can sit, read, socialise and do the 4:00 p.m. quiz. If this is what you are looking for, you will have a great time. If you are looking for something a bit more livelier, or with more local influences, then we would probably advise looking elsewhere.

Stayed here over the New Year period and had a fantastic time. This was our third visit to the hotel and we still got the same high level of service we received when it first opened in 2002.

The hotel is very spacious. Rooms are very large and clean. There is a safe in the room which you have to pay a charge for. There is also a fridge with a complimentary bottle of water. Our room was at the main hotel end which was handy for the restaurant and the entertainment which was held in the Marquee.

Food:
There was a very wide selection and if you could not find anything then you must be pretty fussy.

Entertainment:
This was held every night in the Marquee. There was a resident band on before the main show. The shows were OK - the Gold Team did do a few of the shows.

Staff:
Everyone is very friendly and not just on your last night!

Bars:
The Monkey Bar was great for the Happy Hour (5.00pm I think)You got two drinks for the price of one even their Cocktails.

Pools:
On this occasion the pool was a bit too cold - only a very few people braved it!!

Overall - we throughly enjoyed our stay and will return again. The best bit was no children are allowed. A very peaceful place to stay.

The Hotel Staff and the Thomson Reps were the most helpful and pleasant I have ever met in ANY hotel.
Lots of little touches to make you feel welcome from a drink on arrival to a rose for the ladies on Gala Dinner nights.

Our flight was late but and meant we were too late for our evening meal but we were immediately, and without asking, told that we would be given an evenig meal on the day of our departure instead.

The Hotel Staff were so helpful and pleasant.

The size of the rooms puts other hotels to shame!

This was the first time we had visited Lanzarote and the Coronas Playa hotel, and we were not disappointed with either.

The hotel is in a quite seafront postion with just a short walk into the centre of Costa Teguise, with plenty of bars and restaurants.

The meal choice is as good as other gold hotels we have stayed at. All the staff are very helpful which made for a very good holiday. The resident entertainers are very good, but some of the visiting acts where to say the least terrible, but with good company and a good rock bar nearby no problem.

All the little extra's that were offered to us was an added bonus i.e bottled water in your room with free fridge, welcome drink on arrival, invite to the Manager's cocktail party and free champagne for breakfast! Hotel was extreemly clean with large bedrooms and a great view. The location suited us because it was quiet but you could also walk or catch a taxi for more night life. Hotel entertainment was ok and suited some but we prefered our own entertainment.Thomsons Reps worked really hard to make sure you enjoyed your stay

Had a good week at Coronas Playa in June. Was not as hot as we expected, very windy most days. Cannot fault cleanliness of hotel and facilities. Massive room with balcony but not much of a view for us. We could have paid extra but not really bothered as we don't stay in much! We weren't very keen on the lady in the restaurant who kisses everyone but some people thought it was great to be fussed over. I think she might be trying to "gain points" ... we were given a small questionnaire to complete about staff etc on last night and one of the waiters told us that the most popular staff member gets a holiday somewhere nice!!

Very quiet resort in June but clean and some nice walks around hotel.

What a pleasant stay,a warm welcome at reception, cases arrived quickly to the room which was large and immaculate.
Food was good and plentiful waiters very polite and helpful.Grounds kept very clean and two large clean pools which were children free!!

Only moan is lack of shades around pool and the management's inability to carry out its warning to collect towels placed to reserve sunbeds--this started at 7.30 most mornings and there were only Brits in the hotel!

Went there on a last minute allocation on arrival. Can only say very happy with hotel. Rooms large and spacious, fridge and telly.

Telly only picks up sky news. No kettle but we took our own to be on safe side. Although kettles are provided in the suites, we thought about upgrading to one at 24euros a day, ones available garden suites, with patios which have no privacy. Decided not to bother as our patio was very private and a sun trap for about 6 hours of the day.

Beds comfortable for us, but did here one lady complain about them, but we prefer firmer mattresses, again just a question of personnel choice.

As it is a gold hotel the clientle are usually mature or couples, looking for a comfortable relaxing holiday. The entertainment was certainly geared towards this. The bars on site are all non smoking, but there is a smoking area in restaurant.

Entertainment finished every night at 12.00.
The food in the restaurant was the usual Thomson type hotel buffets and did not struggle any time to find something pallatable and occasionally delicious.

Location for us was excellent, we walked down side of hotel on to front promenade and walked for about 10 mins and we were in the centre of Costa Teguise.

Also in good postion for taxi rank and bus stops which run every 20 mins to Arricife and puerto del carmen.
Only hitch we found with this hotel was when we arrived, at 10.00pm there was no meal provided, they had decided to add the extra half board paid for at the end of stay. Which we found strange and unexpected.

While I unpacked hubby went out to find restaurant, luckily just round corner, brought back delicious pizza and lemonade to mix with duty free whiskey from plane, all was well.

Overall the hotel is modern clean and comfortable. Has 2 swimming areas, a tennis court, squash court and table tennis area. Tennis and squash cost about 6 euros an hour, table tennis was free.

Also a nice patio area a back of hotel which looks onto the sea, where you can sit and watch the cruise liners docking at Arricife and the rest of the world go by

This was our second visit, having stayed February half team 2004 and we were not disappointed on our return. The rooms are very big and clean and are equipped with a small room safe, fridge, clothes airier and television, with table and chairs on the balcony.

We also took a travel kettle (the supermarket is 50 metres from the front of the hotel and is good for getting milk and bits for lunchtime snacks (if you don't want to avail yourself of the lunchtime menu at the pool bar).

The food is excellent and the waiters and waitresses very friendly. The restaurant is basically in two parts - the main bit inside where the buffet is and a huge sun lounge down two sides. (we preferred the sun lounge).

The entertainment was very good and varied and when we were there we had a Motown group and also a "Russian" riverdance tribute. There were plenty of activities organised by the Thomson Gold team.

We stayed at the hotel Coronas Playa for the second time on a half board basis.

We felt that their standards had slipped we were disappointed by the lack of food for a couple of our age. The food is all very nice if you like heavily salted potatoes and stiff meat but then the meat is never the same as it is back home. Anyway with this we found ourselves eating chips every night - but the restaurant staff were fantastic they were very efficient with collecting plates and our waiter Robert was great he had our drinks ready as soon as we walked in.

The hotel cleanliness was great our rooms were cleaned every day.

The hotel location is good but there isn't much close to the hotel. There is a supermarket and some small shops and a couple of bars. The resort center is only a ten minute walk away but there are not really any attractions nearby.

The entertainment was average and only any good when our two Thomson gold reps Nicole and Luke were performing (Nicole has fantastic voice and is a real wonder woman!!!!!!!!!)

I wouldn't visit the Coronas Playa again because this was our second time and we would like to go somewhere else but overall a fantastic 4 star hotel.

Huge variety of food at breakfast time. Did not eat evening dinner, not because it wasn't any good but just our personal choice to eat out.

Monkey Bar had a very relaxed atmosphere during the evening. The evening entertainment seemed quite varied although we didn't really take part, once again our choice, not because of quality.

The location of the hotel suited us 100%. There are sufficient bars and restaurants next to the hotel (we can recommend La Tumera) for those people who do not want to take the 10-15 minute stroll to the busier part of Costa Teguise.

If you take the beach path up to the little roundabout, turn left, this is a short cut to the centre. We will definately stay at this hotel again should we visit Lanzarote.

Loved the hotel from the moment we arrived, staff so friendly.

Thomsons staff always available without being pushy.

Would have prefared to have been a little closer to main resort but this was not really a problem.

Without doubt this is the best hotel we have ever stayed in on a package holiday. The hotel was spotless, both in the rooms and outide areas. The rooms were huge. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. The choice of meals was excellent, as was the quality of the food. Cannot fault this hotel on anything, would definitely stay there again.

Loved the hotel and hopefully will stay there again. The rooms and balconies are huge. Great choice of food served by nice friendly staff. Enjoyed the quietness of the hotel due to the no children rule. Came back home with no complaints about anything, couldn't fault the place. Look forward to our next trip.

The Coronas Playa hotel is one of the friendliest cleanest hotels we have stayed in, the food is very good and the staff were excellent nothing seemed to much trouble for them. the entertainment programme was good and the thomson entertainment reps were spot on. the hotel location is good, a 10 minute stroll to the resort centre and right on the small beach at st bastian.

Having been a 40th birthday suprise from my wife, I found the Coronas Playa undoubtably the best hotel we have stayed in.

The quiet surroundings gives a most relaxing stay. The staff were exellent and the pedicure staff kept my wife occupied for quite a while which gave me a little freedom to pub crawl.

The food was of the highest quality and the little things like free champagne at all meals really adds to the friendliness of the hotel.

The rooms were immaculate and I take my hat off to their cleanliness and to the staff who obviously take time and care to ensure their guest are well looked after.

All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I have no hesitation in saying that we will be returning in the not too distant future.

We have just returned from a stay at the Coronas Hotel.
In short, a first class experience.Wonderful place.Huge rooms, spacious pool areas, spotlessly clean, great food, very friendly and efficient staff always with a smile for you, good facilities and excellent entertainment. How refreshing to find exactly what the brochure offered! Thomson's promised us this was a great place for a couple seeking a relaxed (No Kids!!) quality, mature holiday and that the big emphasis of a Gold holiday was on lots of excellent day and night entertainment. We found all of the above. Everything there is so lovely and professional all day long you find yourself relaxed at the end of the day without a complaint and looking forward to the huge entertainment effort at night. This deserves a special mention.Having been in the Entertainment and Music Industry for many, many years I can tell you that this is why we specifically choose a Gold holiday and we were not disappointed. All the shows were good but if you're into music look out especially for a young singer from Scotland,Lorraine Mclaughlin and if you're into dancing, the Lord of the Dance show.Perhaps not for those looking for a party night or rowdy sing along,we felt the singer was at her best with her big ballads and show songs. We thouroughly enjoyed her beautiful voice and genuine manner with the audience.Really talented. The Lord of the Dance night was equally top-notch, amazing dancing, colourful costumes, beautiful young dancers who had us all clapping along, great night.
Other special mentions about the Coronas are the sheer size of the rooms, much bigger than a lot of 5 stars I've seen and the maid service is immaculate, and of course the two big clean pools with lots of sunbeds, heaven! All in all we had a great time and will definitely go back.

This is a great hotel for couples. We stayed here as a break before Christmas and could have stopped. So much so we are going for Christmas 2004.

We had a seaview room overlooking the lower pool and great views of the ocean. It was a large room with a large balcony and a good sized bathroom. Also supplied were bathrobes and slippers.

The room was kept spotless and the towels changed each day.

Food was excellent and the staff faultless.

Entertainment each night was from the Thomson Reps and they did a really good job.

Looking forward to Christmas and being pampered again.

Overall this hotel was lovely, definitely deserves lots of praise.

We ended up on the second floor on a corner room, which meant our room and baclony was twice the size of our neighbours - it was great. If only we could remember the room number to ask for the same again next year.

The hotel is located the furthest away from resort centre but this di not bother us as it was a nice walk along the beach front.

Staff very friendly and cheery.

My boyfriend and i stayed at the Coronas Playa in march 2003 and the weather was fantastic, we were hoping for a quiet relaxing holiday and that is exactly what we got. Our room was on the ground floor and was in a perfect position right next to the smaller pool which was the quieter of the two.

The staff were excellent and on arrival we were greeted with a cold glass of fresh orange juice whilst we waited to check in. our luggage was delivered to our door by a porter about five mins after we reached our room.

The restaurant staff were also excellent and we were greeted with a peck on the cheek every evening by the matre d
