| said: We travel abroad 4 or 5 times a year. We have cruised 5 or 6 times and stayed in good and bad hotels all over the world. Last year we stayed in the Hilton in Honolulu, we have stayed in good hotels in Australia, Singapore, Thailand, USA, Hawaii and many other destinations. I therefore feel fairly well traveled and able to comment on a hotels quality.
We arrived home today 6th Dec 07. What a nice place to visit, Grand Cayman. On arrival you find it has a small airport with friendly staff. The Beach Club Colony Hotel and Dive Resort is right on the beach. We had the slightly dearer apartments that open directly onto the beach. They are old wooden buildings painted in different pastel shades. The accommodation is fairly basic but more than adequate. The staff get to know you well and are all very friendly. The food is very good with a different choice every day, breakfasts are always the same but we fully enjoyed the culinary pleasures of eating here. The local drinks and cocktails are also included in the all-inclusive option and you can have as many as you want (we did). The scuba gear is also included and even though I took my own wetsuit I didn't need it as the water was 28 degrees C. The diving was exceptional and cost me nothing.
Ask yourself, what do you want when staying in the Caribbean, a posh modern hotel (that you can find anywhere in the world)?, or a well located all-inclusive hotel that oozes with Caribbean character & has very friendly staff. Well I can tell you from now on we will not be looking for any classy hotels, we will be searching for places to stay such as this.
I took over 300 photos during our 7 night stay.
As you will see from other reviews some days cruise ship tourists visit the beach, but that is a section set aside for them, and they were no detriment to our holiday at all.
If you hire a car, watch out for 'Andys', we hired this car and the rear windscreen fell out. The reason it fell out was that it was not a proper glass screen they had bodged it with perspex, the second car we had in exchange was better, but only just...
You can drive around the entire island in less than a day, so if you don't intent to go it alone diving then I guess 1 days hire is enough, not the 4 we had.
As per my title, we were so impressed with this hotel that the rest will always be compared with this one. If you stay in Grand Cayman you will make a big mistake if you don't stay here.
If we go back to Grand Cayman (and I like to visit new places every time) then I will either stay at this resort or not go.
