Stopped here for two weeks Feb 08. Initial impression wasn't good. On arrival allocated a ground floor room which had no natural light and an appalling view of a drain, some rubbish and a wall. Complained and got moved to a room above with a lot more natural light (balcony)and where we could at least see over the wall. This room however had a basic thin door connecting it to the room next door. And you could hear a pin drop next door. Not ideal. But in fairness, room allocation seemed a bit 'pot luck'. Other people we spoke to got better views and rooms with no ajoining rooms seperated by a rickety old thin door.

We went B&B and the breakfast was terrible. On a morning you would usually have to clear your own table wait for cups to arrive so as to make a drink. The toast was like rubber and you had to chase down a waiter just to get your order in. Choice was EGGS. Much all else accept toast, canned juice and cereals yoiu could get but had to pay for it. A pitty really. It seemed as though no thought went into organising breakfast. When all it would of taken was some better organising on the part of the staff. For instance either providing facility to of been able to make your own toast!

The location of the hotel is niether good nor bad seeiong as taxis are so cheap. But if you want a room with a sea view then look else where. If you want a room in the heart of Calangute then look else where, but if you want a room within easy reach by Taxi of Calangute, Candolim and Baga then this might be an option if you are on a budget.

The rooms boys where a class of their own. The room was cleaned everyday with clean towels and everything you'd expect from a 4 star but knowing Somy is only a 2 star. No problems here.

Staff in general are friendly and helpful, accept at breafast time! When Chaos ensues.

Entertainment was infrequent, and repetative. A singer and an Indian theme band every week each week during our stay.

I would not stay here again personally. I would prefer to pay that little bit extra an get that little bit more such as a better view, nearer the beach, better orgainisation of breakfast, and varied more frequent entertainment. But if you are assertive enough (don't be affraid to complain on allocation of room)then maybe you'll get lucky, unlike us.

Plus, right next to the Somy is a lovable little Chinese restraunt where service is very friendly and whose staff appear to have no hidden motive other than to sit and talk and offer up good friendly and informative advice information and general chit chat to those that want it. I would highly recommend visiting it.
