THE ROOMS.
As it was our honeymoon, we were upgraded to one of the best rooms in the hotel. Even though they are self catering apartments they are well furnished and well equipped for cooking and eating. We went on a bed and breakfast basis and chose to either eat outside the hotel or in one the hotels several restaurants rather than cook. The bed linen and towels were changed daily and supplies of soap, shampoo, coffee sugar, etc were replenished where necessary. Even though we were upgraded the other room were just as good if only slightly smaller. The furniture was well maintained and carpets clean.
THE FOOD AND DRINK
Whether eating in the hotel or out, the food is always fresh and inexpensive. The Med Restaurant in the hotel is excellent and the quality of the food is great. A 3 course meal with a bottle of wine came to around 65 euro’s. We were on a B&B basis and after 3 days queueing for breakfast at the Alfama restaurant we tried the Alantida instead. A totally different scenario, with virtually no queueing and coffee jugs placed on each table instead of a waiteress keep coming round. Much more of a selection of hot and cold food too.
THE HOTEL IN GENERAL.
The cleanliness is second to none. Everywhere is spotless. The staff couldnt do enough for anyone and were very helpful and polite. The hotel is very quiet when walking from room to room and plenty of seating to take a rest whilst exploring the various facilities there. The hotel overlooks the sea and every room from what we gather has a sea view and balcony.
THE SURROUNDINGS.
Madeira is virtually an island of volcanic rock so the beaches not up to much. The sightseeing tours are excellent when you get there but when several coaches a day are going to the same places expect things to a be a little busy. The faint hearted will have to close their eyes when going on these tours as you seem to climb hills rather rapidly and you are soon staring down at the town after only a few minutes of being on the road. The views are breathtaking when you get to the top of the island but don’t look down to the road you have just come up as you might be surprised how you actually managed to get there !!!!!!!!
Some places might be a bit difficult for the less mobile but a steady walk up the incline out of the hotel and you are on the flat main road where buses are fairly regular and a wide range of shops and restaurants are available.
All in all a great holiday and will hope to go back one day

| said: Exellent staff, friendly, helpful, polite. We had a superior suite with bedroom, balcony with clothes airer, en-suite and living room with kitchenette. There was a t.v. in the lounge and another in the bedroom. A huge choice for the buffet breakfast, lovely fresh fruit, bread etc and nice hot cooked food.
Room cleaned daily, with the pool towels refreshed daily and any used bath towels, hand towels, flannels, complimentary soap, foam bath and shampoo also replaced daily. When we left washing up it was done for us. Bed covers and furniture were rather drab. we didn't eat in for any other meals so unsure about those.
Both the indoor and outdoor pools were heated and not too crowded. Jacuzzi pool was on the blink whilst we were there.
Handy for the lido area of funchal but otherwise a bit far to walk to town. Complimentary bus service available.all-in-all better than we expected.
