We stayed for a week over the Easter Holidays.

We were aware before we booked that this complex is not geared up for entertainment and most guests make provision for dining out or catered in the apartment. If you are prepared for this, you will not be disappointed.

The apartmentments are not huge, but spotless. I have paid a lot more money and stayed in dirtier places. The maids were excellent at their job. The reception staff could be hit and miss. The clientele is mainly scandinavian, but are very friendly and put us to shame with their english! Pool area is very small, but has astro turf so great for the kids (ours are 3 and 2) and did not have the usual concerns regarding slips! The pool bar is adequate and we went into Puerto Rico to eat at night (4 euro in a cab).

We were not in the main hotel on the hillside but halfway between pool and reception. Our children are in pushchairs but we managed fine - you will be fit. A tip - there is a lift in main block that will take you down to squash court level, walk past courts and out fire exit door, and you are on Balito Beach. Walk across this and follow round to Anfi, which is very nice. Anotherr handy tip is get the cab drivers to 'take you to he top' if your apartment is up there. The barrier will be opened for them and it saves you legs! The mini market is limited, expensive but handy for essentials. Go into the Netto/HiperDino in Puerto Rico for a cheaper shop.

Dont want to go on, but we paid £180 for an apartment over the Easter Break and we were more than happy. Would we go again? Yes and I would recommend it but please bear in mind that you are not in a resort and you do have to be prepared to make an effort to get to places. (Car hire might be good, as there were plenty of spaces and very secure as barrier operated)

Stayed here for Christmas 07. Booked through somewheretostay.com ( Cosmos). Now we usually don't do half board as we like going out to different places to eat but seems we were to arrive late on Christmas Eve and we weren't sure as to what would be open Christmas Day etc, we decided HB.
As it happens, our flight was changed to 9 hours earlier! So we arrived in the afternoon and need not have worried as lots of shops were still open in Puerto Rico.

We were on the bottom floor of this huge complex, so it was nice and quiet.

The complaints that I have about this hotel is;

-Reception is too small for this large complex and there is always a queue for it. THe staff are not over friendly either. You have to hand your keys in when you go out and one particular night we handed them in to a lady there and when we came back at 4am ( yes...dirty stop outs!!) the man could not find them and then accused us of losing them! A few mins later he found them in the till of all places!!

-Breakfast is only full saturated breakfast served at the pool bar. You are handed a menu with 6 choices of all fried food. Not mine and my husbands choice of breakfast every day. We only ate there once and bought cereal for every other day.
Breakfast is served 9-11AM and we like to be off by 8.30am on our travels.

-There is limited hot water. I complained twice about this and they said "all share". I can honestly say that we did not have a warm shower all week.

-The restaurant food is lovely.....when you get it!! The service is appaulling and no-one seems to know what anyone else is doing. We had to wait 45 minutes one night for our starter and did not recieve an apology. The service did not get any better the whole week. In fact, 3 nights we asked for takeaway so that we did not have to endure the poor table service.

The good things are-

-Close to Anfi

-Nice walk to Puerto Rico over the mountain as you come out of reception ( go under the tunnel under the main road). Not ideal for those with mobilty problems.

-Very clean rooms. Some of the cleaniest that I have ever stayed in.

I would go there again, but would not be a choice of mine and defo would NOT to half board again. We felt like second class citizens in the restaurant ( those who were paying appeared to have been served quicker)

I stayed at these holidays on a last minute allocation on arrival deal. The apartments are clean, maid was in every two days and towels changed just as often. There was a microwave, toaster, cooker and kettle in the room.

It was slightly outside Puerto Rico so you have to get a taxi in but there are loads and are pretty cheap (4 euros). Because PR is in a valley, most apartments are up high so you would have to get a taxi down anyway so this made no difference to us.

Reception are very helpful. You can cash traveller’s cheques and they will call you a taxi when ever you need it. The receptionist spoke perfect English was she was very frienldy. There are safety deposit boxes in the rooms and it cost us 15 Euros for the week, well worth the money to keep your belonging safe. The pool bar is good, around 3/4 euros for burger and chips 2 euros for slush drink, that sort of thing.

At night there was entertainment from a dodgy Spanish singer with an electric keyboard but it was funny! And on a Friday night there is an Elvis impersonator who was very good, not at impersonating but he made some good jokes as well.

We had a sea view apartment which was amazing. The onsite shop was a bit expensive, cheaper in Puerto Rico but by the time you pay for a taxi into Puerto Rico, you’re just as well buying from the shop.

The pool was an OK size, very clean and there are plenty of sun loungers to go round. There is also a phone box on site as well which is handy.

Was so hot at the time of year we went that i asked to hire a fan, was told at the moment they don’t offer that service but the receptionist did say that is will be available in the future as lots of guest had been asking.

Overall I think the Balito Beach Apartments are really handy for PR and we really enjoyed our stay there.
