This hotel is a lovely hotel very central to shops and the tower. We were given a first floor room overlooking the road which was very clean with a lovely view of the tower. We arrived at the restaurant for our evening meal at 6.10pm (restaurant opens at 6 pm)only to be told that we would have to wait 20 minutes for a table for 3. We obviously had to accept this as we had evening meals included in our holiday price. After 15 minutes we were offered a table for 5 instead. The meals are very 'posh' and everything had a 'sauce'. We were given vegetables seperate with the meal and on one occasion we had cauliflower with tinned tomatoes ! Very strange. There is a choice of one meat dish, one fish dish, one vegetarian dish or the salad bar. My vegetarian mother had salad most nights because there was nothing to suit her (unless you like stuffed peppers of course !). I had a childs meal one night as there was nothing to suit me also and we are not fussy eaters, we just like plain simple roast dishes etc. I really think that this hotel forgets that it is in Blackpool.

The hotel has entertainment in the hotel everynight which should finish at 11pm. Our room was directly above the bar which is next to reception and at 3.40 am on the first night I had to ring reception because of the drunken singing and general noise that was still coming from the bar area. I was told that drinks were still being served. 10 minutes later there was alot of noise coming from outside and the noisy offenders walked out of our hotel and into the hotel next door ! They weren't even residents at the Ruskin.

On the last night we were told to place our suitcases outside the bedroom door before 7.30am to be collected by the porters. I put the alarm clock on for 7am but I needn't have bothered as the porters started to walk around the hotel at 5.30 am onwards, wheeling cases and calling the lift which was right outside our door. I was really glad to arrive home to get a good night's sleep.

We shall be returning to the Hollies next year which has everything we need.
