The hotel stands in a quiet position within the Troutbeck Valley, with views to the local fells, namely Garburn Pass, and the Ill Bell Ridge.

We have stayed in the Queens Head at Troutbeck at least 6/7 times and have always found this hotel to be excellent with friendly staff. It dates back to the 17th century and the bar area is made out of a four poster bed. It has retained many of the original features throughout and has a reputation for an excellent choice of beers The wine menu is also extensive.

It's about 2 miles from Lake Windermere and the same from Ambleside. You can either stay in the main hotel part or in the annexe. Have stayed in both - this time we had a refurbished annexe room that was very modern with a LCD T.V.

The hotel rooms are comfortable and all have en-suite, T.V. tea/coffee making facilities. Some rooms have a four poster bed.

The breakfasts and food served in the small restaurant and bar are excellent with a good choice. You can either stay on a B & B basis or breakfast and evening meal. In winter there are cosy log fires to keep you warm in the main bar area. Bank holidays require a minimum of 3 nights stay.

No entertainment is provided and is not expected. Lots of fell walkers stay here because of the area, but it by no means known as just a walkers hotel.
