| said: We have been to Gran Canaria on numerous occasions and have always had good accommodation (apart from Aqua Sol) and this was no exception.
Our apartment was clean and tidy upon arrival and was kept that way by the staff during our stay.
We had one cockroach which was quickly killed with the spray which they provided so what people moan about we dont know.
The view out to sea was very good and overall it was very quiet except on new years eve but that was to be expected.
We think that these apartments were very good and would not hesitate to return in the future.
Finally the lift only breaks down when idiots mess around with it because we had no trouble when we used them.

| said: Booked the Blue Star as a last minute getaway, and read some horrendous reviews before we left - especially about the lift!
Couldn't disagree more with the bad reviews... Room was great and suitable for purpose - how much time do you spend in there anyway!??!?! Cleaned well twice in the week we were there (and no cockroaches), no clean sheets, but how often do you need them changed in a week!?!! Pool was fantastic, practiced now at towelling beds early! Pool bar was good for lunch, and had no problems at all with staff. Better to be at the top of the hill than stuck in the middle of Puerto Rico with a million other people and noise!
Wouldn't recommend going to Amadores unless you are prepared to get a taxi back or take the long steep walk... As for the lift - take it for its novelty value and it's fine, if a bit strange! Only broke down once while we were there, and it was fixed within in an hour. Already looking to book for a larger group next year - would recommend to anyone.

| said: I have only been back for 3 weeks after staying at the blue star, I have to say that we did not see one cockroach in our apartment, which had been a worry after I had read a few forum posts, we were on the top tier of apartments, I had read about a 'dodgy' lift, again no worries there! I did see a removed lift in the grounds which might suggest the 'dodgy' lift has been replaced.
Overall accommodation is quite basic but not bad ( If you want better pay more ) there are no luxuries on the inside but then the price reflects that, staff are friendly and helpful, ( even when faced with daft Brits like me and my man, whom could not even open our apartment door! And had to be shown how, and then managed to break our hotel safe on 3 occasions!! ) each time we had a problem staff acted very promptly at helping us out ( even though the guy fixing the safe spoke Spanish, it was easy to understand like, 1 KAPUT, 2 KAPUT, 3 KAPUT, 4 KAPUT ) Translated into even our English means do note use buttons 1 to 4.
Maids came every other day and did the whole shebang, bedding, cleaning, towels, even our washing up! ( which I kept having to tell the O/H was OK as we were on holiday and it was expected , still he did not like to leave it but kept forgetting to buy washing up liquid in his overly drunken state!! < His first time at foreign measures lol!! > )
Our balcony was fantastic ( remember we are on the top tier ) We had glass balconies which were great on an evening just chilling out having a drink and looking at the views, We brought out the sofa cushions ( sorry don't do plastic chairs they do my back in, I am a comfort kitten all the way!! ) lit a few candles and sat on the balcony every evening, It was huge as far as a balcony goes and I loved it so much more than the interior, I even slept out there one evening :o)
The pool is fine, But I have to admit that we were a bit naughty and we walked down the hill to the Gloria palace to use their pool as the water is so soft and warm (the luxuries of 5 star I guess) even so, As much as the Gloria may have better interiors and pool they could never beat our balcony!
Also we are late risers and never found a problem getting 3 loungers together by the pool with a little bit of moving loungers around.
As far as how high up it is, I loved the location; it is quieter on a night, Close to the Europa centre, 5 mins walk, if you want more relaxation rather than in your face hassle when you go for breakfast (or evening meal) the top of the Island is where you need to be!
Plus the top of the Island is much cleaner in all by far, Anyway a taxi from top to bottom is just 3 to 4 Euro, and believe me once you have been to the bottom a few times and have gone through cat pee park you will be glad you are at the top (do not get me wrong I am a cat lover, I have my own) But down in the bottom it reeks. Top of the island for me every time.
I think top tier is level 8? Not too sure right now will ask the better half (He is not the brains of the duo, But he is the memory!)
Oh biggest bugbear, 2 beds shoved together to make a double, As we all know NOT Ideal for a couple but does seem the norm in most hotels abroad, even the luxury places, when we went to Anfi ( on a trip to try sell us as formerly known ‘timeshare’ now known as ‘owning your own holiday? ) Even there in 5 star luxury with every other luxury included ( Jacuzzi, sky TV, microwave etc) The beds were also singular and pushed together (albeit they may have been screwed together) What is with this? They do have Ikea in Gran Canaria!! And my mattress at home is a memory foam king size which was very affordable, Oh how we missed our own mattress!!
OK rant over, That was it our biggest complaint about our apartment which as I said is a very common denomination of staying abroad.
Oooh nearly forgot the biggest bugbear (apart from the mattress) was that we were self-catering and only had a double hob (free standing like you would use camping) no cooker or oven which when you have a 13 yr old that will only eat pizza is a bit of a problem if you wanted a cheap night in, we ate out every night but if you did want to do home cooking this would be a problem, However we did not complain about this so cannot say what the response would have been.
Overall - Good, Clean, Friendly, Best location (I believe) Basic, Get what you pay for but definitely not bad compared to what I was expecting after reading some reviews.

| said: When we arrived at 2am we were given our room keys and advised to go into the lift and make our way to level 1 (reception was on level 9)
The lift was like a cable car lift but it got us to the level we required.
In our rooms we were greeted with dirt, a bin that had not been emptied and only 2 beds made up and not enough sheets for the 3rd bed as we had 3 people in our appt.
I then had to make my way back up to level 9 to ask for more sheets and to complain about the dirty room and the bin, I was given more sheets and told the night receptionist would advise the manager in the morning and get someone to come to our room.
No one ever came to the room the next day and we had to empty the bin ourselves as it was overflowing.
Also the windows at the back of the appt did not close properly and the patio door if you touched it the glass almost fell out.
Day one and we went to the pool area to be greeted by hardly any sunbeds, what beds there were was reserved by towels and no one on them, this happened most days, there was no children's enterainment as advertised on our holiday website and this was mainly a hotel for the spanish as most of the guests were just that.
The room was cleaned twice whilst we were there if you could call it that as all they did was empty the bins and leave towels they changed the beds once but if I'm totally honest we were probably better off left with the previous sheets as one set were blood stained and the others were Grey not white!
We complained about the standard of cleaning but nothing was ever done.
On the final day I was using the lift upto reception at 4pm (may I just point out this is a lift on a hillside with 4 sides of glass in full hot sunlight) and I got stuck in it, I was left there for 10 minutes with only a spanish responce on the alarm before someone reset it and it went back to the bottom.
When I complained to reception I was told it was a totally safe lift and I should just chill out - not the reponce I was expecting at all.
Later that evening it our last day and we were preparing to leave as we had paid 36 euro for a room extention till midnight we called for the lift and found it to be out of service.
We called to reception and told we had to use the one poolside.
The route we had to take was up 4 flights of stairs to the 4th floor across and along side the pool, up a lift to the 6th floor along and acroos to a second lift to the 8th floor along a walkway to below the reception then up a spiral staircase to the 9th floor. My dad had to do this 6 times as we had 6 suitcases.
No help was offered by reception.

| said: Well, dont take any notice of the negative reviews, if your staying at these apartments, its because your on a budget, so your not going to find gold plated beds!!
The staff were really friendly, the lift didn't break one, and not one cockroach, we stayed in room 701, no problems at all!!
I have just booked to go again in April on this year (2008) and I cannot wait.
The location isnt ideal if you have problems with walking, but the reception staff will book you a taxi, which is about 2.80euro, although it doesnt take too long to walk down to the main centre.
The Europa centre is about 5 minute walk away, plenty of nice shops and restauarnts,.
We went to a a place called JONAHS, for breakfast (opposite netto) every day and they were amazing!!
so don't believe all the negative, your holiday is what you make of it.

| said: When we arrived it was glorious sunshine the view was magnificent. We thought how lucky we were. That ws until we had to carry our suitcases down 6 flights of stairs as the lift was broken. The lift seemed to be broken more than it worked.
We thought our room was a bit on the shabby side but we wern't going to be in it much and the view was great.
What we had not bargained for was the cockroaches. We did not notice them when we arrived but at the night time they were everywhere.
When we complained the manageress just started singing La cucaracha la cucaracha da da. I now know that is spannish for cockroaches.
They thought it was no problem and said everywhere had them when we asked to be moved so there was no point moving.
We had paid for a fan and a room safe and when we returned these we asked for a complaint form for the rep and we were told there were no complaint forms.
Our rep on the island was useless and told us we were better off finding our own rooms.
Which we did and they were great.

We named this cockroach city as they were everywhere. The satff could not care the manageress was surly the reception staff did not want to know.
The accommadation was in poor repair and very unsecure.
We had read some of the bad reports but also noted some of the good reports and thougt the good outnumbered the bad so we decided to give it a try.
What a mistake. Never ever again.

| said: Arrived late Saturday evening found two cockroaches in living room which we killed. Awoke Sunday morning to find several cockroaches around the kitchen area. Even in the fridge.
Complained but were asked if we would give housekeeping a chance to sort the problem, we agreed. When no sign of housekeeping by lunchtime we decided to buy our own spray, when we returned housekeeping had been in and left a can of spray. We used both cans as directed but this had the result of bringing out even more cockroaches. We decided we had tried our best and that the hotel should move us to another room as our next door neighbours were not having any problems.
We were told that they would shift us first thing Monday morning, however, when Monday morning arrived we were told that they were not going to shift us. The Manager came to our apartment after we had rung our rep. She agreed we had a problem as there were cockroaches around when she was there. She told us that they would fumigate the apartment but we would have to stay in the apartment while this was done and the problem would last for several more days as it was apparent that there was a nest somewhere near.
We spent the whole of that day trying to find somewhere else to stay.
We were advised by our rep to go back to the Blue Star and get a complaint form from Blue Star. However, when we asked for a form we were told that as we had moved out we were no longer guests and could not have a claim form.
We met up with the people from the neighbouring apartment who told us the room had been sealed and that they had cleaners, plasterers and decorators in our room and that they worked on it for 4 days.
If only they had done that before we went there.
Be very careful if you decide you want to go there.

| said: We hadn't heard of these apartments before and as there had been a few bad reports posted on this site, we weren't sure what to expect.
When we arrived, however, we got booked in quickly and the apartment was clean and adequately equipped. The best feature was the balcony, ours had great views looking out to sea, was totally private and was a real sun trap ( not everybodys was as private )
The pool was a decent size, the sun terrace was a nice feature and there was plenty of sun beds.
The lift ran at the side of our apartment and was used constantly all day without breaking down.
The staff were helpful and we would definately stay here again.
The only advice I would give is that the best apartments in terms of location and views are on the higher floors i.e. floors 6 and above.
P.S. We didn't see one cockroache!

| said: I have just returned from an 11 day stay at the Blue Star with my boyfriend. After I,d booked I read some of the reviews and thought `oh my god what have I booked us in to`.
We had a lovely apartment, basic yes but what do you expect for that price, we had a great view to wake up to every morning and eating breakfast on our terrace with a view like that was heaven.
The beds were ok, the plastic covers on the mattress,s were a pain but i,v slept in worse. We were on the 4th floor and we said we would,nt want to be any lower bacause if the lift broke down you can use the pool lift but it only goes down as far as 4.
The tv was good though the BBC 1 channel signal always started to break up about 7.30 in the evening.Cant comment on the food as we always ate out. The pool was nice, a bit cold but we spent a lot of time on Amadoras beach which is lovely.
The maids came every other day and all the staff were pleasant and helpful. We did book a trip over to Tenerife with the girl on reception but i,m afraid she booked us onto the wrong day so we got up at 6 to get a bus which was,nt goin to arrive. We were dissapointed about that but we,ll go next time.
All in all the Blue Star was value for money and its in a great location, near to the Europa centre if you dont want to go down into Puerto Rico and if you do its a cheap taxi fare.
We will definatly be staying there again..cant wait !

| said: I was very disappointed when I read all the reviews on the blue star before I went to it. So I was shocked when I arrived to find very friendly staff that greeted you everytime you walk through the reception.
The mini shop was being refurbished at the time so I never got to use that but I will say that having to walk up the slope to get to the shopping centre every night and day is not good for older people or families with prams.
The rooms were very clean but basic. The windows were not the safest because they weren't secure but it is very secluded around the rooms that nobody could ever get to it with walking through the complex.
There is no indoor bar but a pool side bar that did do reasonable food. There is no entertainment but the shopping centre is a short walk up the slope and straight around the corner.

The apartments are very basic we were in room 827 which is the top floor and had 5 cockaroaches in the room in the week we were there I took some spray with me and used it everyday, the bedroom window didn't lock and the windows at the front of the apartment wouldn't close properly.
The beds were very uncomfortable and there is no air con in the appartments I would not recommend the blue star apartments .

| said: We thought the apartments were fine - what I would expect from 2 star accommodation. Our room was very basic but clean. We were only on the 7th floor so we didn't really use the lift much but it did seem to break down a lot.
The location was fine but no good if your not very mobile. It's quite near two small shopping centres but quite a long way from the beach and the busier area of Puerto Rico.
The pool was fairly clean - it did have a bit of a problem with floating rubbish. There aren't many sunloungers though and the ones that are there sem to break very easily.
The reception staff weren't very friendly but the cleaning staff were always polite and the one that cleaned our room kept insisting on washing clean dishes. I don't think I would stay here again but that was mainly due to the location. If we go back to Puerto Rico, I would prefer to be nearer the bottom of the hill.

| said: Lots of stairs, the lift only works when it feels like it, it reminds me of the glass elevator in Charlie & the chocolate factory, except some times it doesn't even move (and when you have a baby in a pram it can be a right pain tackling the stairs).
The apartments are really basic but very clean the room consists of 2 single beds, a sink with 2 electric rings(for cooking), 1 sauce pan 1 frying pan lots of plates and so on. The settee is so uncomfortable (according to my husband who had to sleep on it for 2 wks) because there wasn't enough beds. Watch out 4 the travel cots if you have a small child (as some of them are awful). We got a good one after we complained.
I can't fault the cleaning staff, they came every other day with clean towels.
If you go out you must, I repeat must, leave all lights on other wise you will be riddled with cockroaches.
The pool is great very clean, it gets cleaned every morning. (couldn't get my 6yr old daughter out of it). The pool side bar is great, staff very friendly.
Food great.
The reception staff..... well there there was only one nice one Maria, the rest were arrogant and ignorant.
Overall the holiday was great but the accommodation (blue star no star) I think that says it all.
The view was out of this world as long as you're on the 4th floor up. We were room 531 which was great.

Was not told when we booked that we had to pay 100euro deposit when we arrived. Very disapointed there was no entertainment for the kids at all.
They had 1 small pool which wasn't the cleanest and the locals were allowed to come in and use it taking up the loungers staff was not very helpful at all and was quiet arrogent. Lift kept braking down and when it happened on the last day when we were getting picked up for the airport none of the staff offered to help with peoples bags up to the reception.
Reps were not very helpful. Trips were fab loves the camel rides and also reps night out.

From the rudeness of the reception staff, so ignorant. the lift....oh my god it was a deathtrap and thats when it was working, broke down everyday sometimes more than once.
Three kids went down with ear infections I believe it was the dirty pool which caused it. There was hardly any sunloungers.
I didn't visit restaurant so can't comment on the food. The maids came every 3 days which was fine, but they didnt sweep floors or mop.
Our rep told us about all the complaints about Blue Star that I think first choice will be taking it out of brochure soon.
Apart from the hotel the holiday was great.

The reception were very pleasant throughout our stay and we checked in and got to our room in mnutes. Staff always willing to get a very prompt taxi to anywhere yo may want to go.
The room was great! Very clean and modern, the view from the huge balcony was amazing! The pool could have been cleaned a little more often but with our facor 50, we were probably the main reason for the cloggage! Cleaning staff were great - our room was cleaned 3 times during our stay.
Location was excellent, 2 minutes away from anything you may need and a 5 min/3 euro taxi ride to the everything else.
Would definately come back, we didn't want to leave!

Just to warn you if you want a ground floor room ask for floor 7 or 8 (1 is the furthest away from the exit (about 100 steps)

| said: What can I say about the Blue Star apartments apart from filthy and smelly. We arrived on 20th December to find the lift broken (were told this happens often) and had to walk down 2 flights of stairs with our luggage.
The apartment itself looked promising with a huge terrace to sit out on but then we walked in. The bathroom smelt of stagnant water the whole time we were there and everything was covered in dust.
We also found a cockroach which was a nice surprise. We had breakfast at the poolside restaurant one morning and to say it was disgusting was an under-statement plus the restaurant staff were quite rude.
They're not ideally situated either but on a whole they are foul and I'm in the process of writing to complain to First Choice who we booked with. It's the first and last time we ever book anything with them again as the service was terrible. Book these apartments at your peril, they really are horrific!

The room was basic but clean. The towels provided were very good and changed twice during our stay. The beds were very comfortable and made by the cleaning staff at least twice while we were there. The cleaning staff were very polite and did a good job.
The 2 pools were clean but cold. The bar and snack bar were reasonably priced and the food was pretty good. The lifts were a problem at times but over all not bad.
The reception staff were very helpfull and sorted any problem quickly and with a smile.the rep "Shelley" was a joy, always smiling and couldnt do enough to help,we wish her every success in her new job.
For the price that I paid, I was more than satisfied and would go back time and time again.

| said: The Blue star apartments are both dirty and no good for children.
We arrived late on Saturday to feel quite disappointed mainly due to the Cockrouches and ants that were staying in our appointment!! Oh and the cot being left outside. We decided to make the most of our holiday.
The next day we spent most of the day waiting for the maintenance staff to repair everything Inc safe deposit box, etc. We hired a kettle and a toaster which didn't work. In the evening we went out for a meal upon our return the bathroom was flooded. We where then told to collect a key to move apartments in the dark with our 22 month old son and we had to move the cot!!! We thought at least we would get a better apartment oh no. The enamel on the bath was floating on the top when you filled it but you couldn't fill it with water from the tap you had to use the shower. The final straw was the ants in my son's cot it was awful. We nicknamed the whole complex faulty towers!!!
The lifts continually broke down which meant we had to carry our son and his pram up and down steps. The apartments are the worse I have ever had the unfortunate pleasure of staying in.
By Tuesday we had had enough I asked our very very helpful rep for a flight home or to move us which she did to some fantastic 4 star apartments. Only to find out after chatting to a couple that our holiday had cost £400 more than theirs!!!

| said: Well i'll start with that bad points and leave the good til last.. The lift was shoddy, kept stopping, travelling when and where it liked and the were also a few days where the lift was out of order. Secondly, there should be a services lift as everytime the lift was working it was mainly occupied by cleaning / maintenance staff. Cleaners were okay, but really depended on who you got as some were pretty obnoxious, which is the same for maintenance staff who were all very obnoxious and dont even try to acknowledge people staying there. The showers were disgraceful and the towels that were provided by the hotel were used to clean the floor up of the water that turned our bathroom into a swimming pool.
The main pool was of good size, but was very overcrowded at some points and we were put off by going in because of this. The baby pool was used mainly by older kids, or even worse by adults with no children. The sun loungers around the baby pool were all used by adults mainly with no kids (as this was the quieter area of the pool), there was nowhere near enough sunbrolly's around the baby pool, where they are most needed and there wasn't even a shower! The cleanliness of the main pool i cannot account for as i never went in, but the baby was pretty bad...
It would get to about 13-00 hours and there would be al sorts in the bottom of the pool, also we had to get the cleaners of the Blue Star to wash my partners bikini top as she lent against the side and washed off suncream stuck to it... and when we tried to wash it off it never came off...
I've rated entertainment as 1 as Blue Star never provided any, but there was plenty around, so there was no need for any, plus there was enough noise made by new arrivals at 3 in the morning.
Now for the positives.
There was three staff in the Blue Star Aparthotel, who were great and we really will miss. The First and second were both reception staff, one was Guiseppe and the other was a lady who wasn't there for the second part of our stay, which was a shame. The third is Leonardo, who was the evening waiter at the poolside bar (which during our stay was the main restaurant) he was great, was always very friendly, always smartly dressed and created a very pleasant atmosphere at night when it became qieter. The Apartment was okay for the price we paid although comfort was not at the maximum.
The last positive for the hotel isnt actually about the hotel, but our rep - shelley. We send our wishes to her and good luck in going for an air hostess position!

The apts are very very basic as you can not cater for yourself as you only have afridge and 2 cooking rings. The apts are clean(ish)and they are cleaned 2 or 3 times a week. All the apts have balconeys and are sea view.
The pool area was clean and the pool was cleaned every morning The pool side bar was ok but needed smarting up and this closed at 6pm so after that you had to go out as the hotel doesnt have another bar.
The hotel as a shop which is well stocked and isnt expensive.
The apts are not air con which is arful at night as it gets to hot (but we did hire a fan even though it didnt do much)While we was there we did see some cockroches but only saw 2 in our room.
The hotel staff was ok but i didnt find them to helpful.I wouldnt go to these apts again as they are not air con and you have to hire everything to cater for your self .

| said: Well what can I say but this hotel has to be the worst we have ever stayed in. When we first arrived we were amazed at the state of the lift to the rooms, it was like Doctor Whos tardace.
The rooms were very basic, which at first was not a problem. But then the lock to the front door broke and this took about 7 days to be fixed. The hotel does not have air con, and after several promises from staff that we could have a fan this was not granted and so didnt get one decent night sleep at all throughout the whole holiday.
If you like waking up and finding cockcroches strolling up your tummy and finding about seven in your room after a night out then definately visit.
Overall the hotel was a total joke and wouldn't put a monkey in it. However had a brill holiday.

| said: The Blue Star are very basic apartments but they are clean and airy with a lovely sea breeze going through the apartment. We spent alot of time at the pool which was great for us as parents and great for my 2 boys aged 14 and 10. They met kids of all ages at the pool and we had a brilliant time. The pool bar was good with lovely toasties and cold beer and not expensive. The views from our apartment were fantastic and as I said the breeze was lovely especially at night. We all got a good sleep at night as where the apartments were situated there was no noise and they were cool at night actually some nights we needed a sheet over us. The apartments were situated at the top of Puerto Rico and just a 5 minute walk from the Europa Centre which we preferred to the centre at the bottom, and the Hotel Staff were happy to order you a taxi if required (you will need one if you go down the bottom to Puerto Rico Centre). I would certainly recommend the Blue Star if you are not looking for anything to fancy, and myself and my family intend to return next year I can't wait. We really had a great time and the apartments are absolutely fine.

Blue Star is an excellent economy aparthotel. You get what you pay for.
Positives:-
Clean basic apartments with brilliant views,
Great balcony, friendly staff, good on site shop
Good size pool,
Close to Europa centre which has bars, restaurants entertainment shops etc.
Money exchange on site
Sun all day on balcony
negatives:-
Need taxi to get to beach (£1)
No entertainment but Europa 5min walk away
Typical Puerto Rico complaint of jerky lift
Restaurant and pool side bars are franchised so can be a hit and a miss.

| said: This is the 3rd time we came to Puerto Rico. Blue Star was a late booking. Normally we do package deals but this time we booked flights separately with BA and accommodation through Hotel beds. We booked transfers through HolidayTaxis.com.
There were 8 of us traveling so it was worth it splitting the taxi fare (minibus) and not having to deal with tour operator’s hustle and bustle, dropping everyone off etc. Our driver was waiting for us at the airport with a placard.
Blue Star was ok but a bit dingy. The lift to the lower levels was a caravan attached to the side of the building that stopped running at midnight. There is another 'real' lift but it only goes from floor 4 to the top and you have to walk down a maze of steps to get downstairs.
The apartment was small, compared to others I have stayed in. There’s a coin-op TV in the room that shows BBC1 (so you can keep up with Eastenders). Our phone didn’t work.
The restaurant at the top did a lovely vegetable soup and grilled chicken.
A short walk down (and I do mean DOWN) the hill is Gloria Palace hotel that has a Thallasotherapy Spa Centre which just has to be visited. It cost 17 euros for a 2 hr session which comprises of different Jacuzzi style spa's that massage you.
Blue Star is a short walk to Europa centre and you can actually walk it down to the Commercial centre - if you're not put off downward slopes and stairs. It’s actually a nice walk!
Blue Star is not my ideal choice but I would stay there again if I got a late deal and the price was right.
The standard of 2* accommodation in P.R is pretty much the same across the board. I stayed in Puerto Feliz which is meant to be 3* and it was worse than Blue Star, scummy, grubby. I wouldn’t describe Blue Star like that at all. Previously I stayed in Scorpio, also 2*, and it was ok.
Overall, Blue star is ok, for a no frills accommodation.
It’s a good location for bus stops, taxi ranks, Europa and of course to get to Gloria Palace Hotel.
Amodores Beach is only 5 minutes away by taxi. Nice beach with bars and restaurants beach side.

| said: The Blue star was an excellent hotel and I would definately visit again. The only draw back was the lift (AKA the Ski lift!) It was always occupied by the cleaners and occaisionally had the desire to go up and down the floors before taking you to where you wanted. Good news though - a new lift was there ready and waiting to be fitted when the season ended!
The Pool was of a good size and very clean and with the sun terrace positioned so well you got the sun all day long - very hot! The pool side bar was well presented and served a wide variety of food as well as alcohol (My main preorgative!).
The apartments are situated 2 min walk away from the Europa center where you can find more shops (all selling at duty free prices) lots of bars for all tastes young - old, especially good is Fridays a family bar with entertainment all night. Also at the Europa you can find outdoor tennis courts with rock climbing and a bungee (Only open during peak season).
The appartments are situated at the top of the hill so to get to the main beach or amadores is easily accessed by taxi or bus, both reasonably priced and not too far away - Taxi ranks beside the Europa center as well as the bus stop.
The Blue star had no entertainment which didn't particuarly bother me as there was enough near by.
The rooms are cleaned twice a week with fresh towells and bedding provided. Within the rooms you can find a sofa/bed, dining table with chairs, small kitchen with sink, fridge and two hobs, a fully functioning sat TV (You have to put euros into this for it to work - 1 euro will give you 1 hours veiwing) the bathroom is fitted with WC and shower and the bedrooms with two single beds easily pushed together if you feel the need! The balconys are spacious and all overlook the harbour giving you a good view in the morning of how the weather will be.
The Hotels restaraunt is seperately run and served lovely food at a high price with not too good service - not recomended! The shop is well equiped with everything that you need from drinks to sun cream, post cards and english newspapers. Within the reception area you can find a computer with internet access and the staff are very helpfull speaking full english. At night security keep an eye on the premises (very friendly) and will escort you back to your room just incase you cant remember where it is!
Outside of the apartments near the reception area you can find a prety waterfall alongside bird cages holding cockateils and a few african grey parrots who will talk to you as you pass by!
All in all I would say that my stay at the Blue Star apartments was very pleasent and I would deffinately recomend it for anybody of all ages!

| said: When arriving at the hotel all seemed well, the rooms were spacious and clean to begin with and there were plenty of other couples about. It was about the forth night when I found a cockroach on its back in the bathroom; it all went down hill from then. Every night there was at least one cockroach sharing our apartment. We found them in the bath, in the wardrobe, on our clothes, in the cutlery tray, in the bed, everywhere. It was like we were infested with them and the spray provided was no good.
There was a lot of building work going on in the room above us.
The pool area was of a reasonable standard and as for the lift, oh my god it was like being in a caravan that was about to fall apart, when it worked that was.
The hotel staff were friendly but when it came to our complaint about the infestation of cockroaches they made no attempt to move us until the second to last day of our 14 day holiday.
The location of the apartments was not too bad but not really ideal for entertainment as it’s a 5-10 minute taxi ride to main centre, (no walking!!!!!)
I would not visit or recommend this place to anyone.

| said: I've just returned from 2 weeks in the Blue Star. Not a single @#%$ roach, very clean, very quiet. Rooms cleaned every other day along with the rubbish removal.
Avoid the Europa centre 2 minutes walk away, the bars are disgraceful, particularly Yates. The Baracoa is the worse cabaret ever, it's so bad it could be good. We saw the only Elvis impersonator who doesn't sing Elvis songs - doh!
The main action is in the Puerta Rico Centro commercial. But be warned it's loud and lively. Youngsters will hassle you to go to their bars, the trick is to smile and say that you are going somewhere else, it's the same with the restaurants, just say that you have already eaten. Some bars won't let you buy a single drink, they force you into 2 for 1 which makes you stay longer than you wanted (unless you leave the drinks). Avoid MGMs, staff unfriendly and full of underage kids. Linekers is surprisingly good, but only if you like football. All bars have theme nights which are unbelievably naff.
The apartments are a 15 minute downhill walk to amadores beach, which is the best beach in G/Canaria, the beach side bars sell cheap food and drink, the sea is blue and clean. Get a taxi back up the hill for 2 euros (£1.20).
Puerta Rico is NOT full of drunken lads and and is quite a good laugh. If you want that go to Playa Del Ingles.

| said: Having just returned (two days ago) from staying at the Blue Star apartments, I personally would give it a big thumbs down. Although the staff were friendly and helpful and the supermarket was okay, that was about it. Situated right at the top of the hill, it was a very long trip down to the bus station and the other main shops (the Europa Centre was about a five minute walk away). Although the apartments were spacious, they were very basic - although they were full of cockroaches and ants! There are nine floors, the reception is on the 9th floor which is the top one. You then travel down on a glass framed lift to whichever floor you need. We were on the 2nd floor from the bottom (next to the tennis court), nobody in their right mind would have played in the children's area on floor one. Although there were some people in the swimming pool on the fourth floor, most of these were children and the pool appeared filthy. In fact, one guest told me you couldn't see the bottom of the pool. My friend whom I went with, suffers from vertigo and so we were forced to walk up and down seven flights of steps each and every time we went out of the apartment. The dining room/restaurant was never open, nor the games room, which seems very strange for August. When we turned on the kitchen tap, the shower came on in the bathroom. There was only one plug for kitchen sink, bath and handbasin. Rubbish from the apartment only got collected once during the week we were there. Finally we had had enough and managed to get another apartment on the 6th floor above us - this had been renovated in comparison to the previous one and was better than the first one. At least we had some sort of view from there as in the first apartment, all we could see was a flat roof with what I presume was some sort of storage tank on top, which was not particularly attractive. Although the public areas were clean enough, the cleaners would hog the main lift (there was another one near the swimming pool but didn't cover all floors) for their cleaning baskets, etc in the mornings so you could easily wait for more than ten minutes to use the lift. There was not one guest that we spoke to that had a good word for the complex. Many were going to complain to their respective tour operators as we intend to do also. Definitely not a place for the infirm. If you like sharing your pad with cockroaches scampering all around you - fine, it not, I should find somewhere else.

On-site supermarket offers good range of products and we didn't need to go anywhere else to stock up. Excellent location, close to the europa centre where there are lots of good bars and restaurants. Right at the top of the hilside so car hire or taxi's recommended for travelling down to the beach or water park. We hired a car for the duration of our stay and it was a good call, enabled lots of days out exploring without relying on coach excursions and busses. Staff helpful and friendly with the majority speaking perfect english. On site restaurant and games room never seemed to be open, assume this is due to lack of demand as there is so much other entertainment nearby.
