Our impression of the dining room was that it looked very like a store type restaurant that one could find in the UK. The tables were very jammed together, and not particularly well set. The staff were erratic at clearing the tables. The food was predictable. Breakfast consisted of a choice of cheese, a few cold meats, 3 cereals always cornflakes (the cheapest value ones) coco pops and sugar puffs. There was yoghurt, a cheap variety. The cooked consisted of very greasy bacon, eggs, tomatoes, sausage, chips and beans. Then there was toast and cakes or brioche. Noticably no fruit.

Lunch was a basic salad selection, soup and then always pork, turkey, a caserole of some type and fish in batter. The desserts were limited, many blancmange type offerings, icecream and limited fruit. Apples, melon, oranges, bananas, and pineapple. There was the cheap yoghurt again. Dinner was the same selection.

The rooms were clean and functional. The maid service was good. The main drawback for us was that it was becoming warm and we like a cool room. The air conditioning did not work so we had to sleep with the balcony door open. This resulted in being smoked out every night as we had smokers next door. The noise level was also very high and we were woken several times by this. Some of the langusage used by other guests loudly left a lot to be desired! Throughout the hotel there is a smell of stale cigarette smoke, not good if you are a non smoker.

The entertainment was not to our taste, it was very loud and we could not hear ourselves speak over it.

In our opinion the hotel is not a 4 star. We have stayed in many hotels before including Spain and this one was not on a par with other 4 star hotels we have used. Our reasons for this are that the food was very limited for a 4 star hotel. The noise level was high and the lack of insulation meant that it was easy to be disturbed. The layout of the restaurant was not up to the standard we would expect of a 4 star hotel. We think that this hotel probably has the 4 star rating as it has an indoor pool, which is rather claustrophobic and also a gym area. Overall we would rate it 3 star. We think that it was geared up to the short break type visitor. The general area is very busy and the beach fine shingle as opposed to sand. The beach is very steeply shelved.

The hotel itself is perfectly situated between Lloret de Mar beach and Fennels beach, so great location. That is all that is good about this hotel!!!

Firstly, the hotel stank of stale cigarettes everywhere you went apart from the dining hall. Not great for non smokers!

There was a childrens playground(if you can call it that) which was situated on the roof and to get to it you had to walk up what can only be described as a fire exit! 2 flights! how this got passed through health and safety i'll never know!

The indoor pool had ceiling tiles hanging off and filthy and the smell when you walked in was awful! needs a revamp!the food was the same old thing and some not cooked properly! There was a snack bar but you couldnt get drinks in there and you had to sit and eat any snacks in that room!even the icecream which was in little tubs! You couldnt take this out to the pool!

The hotel staff werent very friendly! This applies to mainly the barstaff (the maids who clean your rooms cannot be faulted)! Rooms were cleaned daily and fresh clean towels daily! so well done to the maids!

I was so ready to come home after staying here for a week! Woken up several nights around 3/4am with people fighting in the corridors, banging on doors, etc. Mostly to blame were groups who started drinking at 10am as soon as the bar opened and didnt stop! This has put me off going all inclusive anywhere again, other than on a longhaul destination!

Security were called out most nights and police. This was the main topic of conversation in the dining area at breakfast times! everyone asking"did you manage to get much sleep"!!! I know some people have complained about having a view of cemetery instead of pool, but this is the quieter part at the back of the hotel!

Oh, and last but not least, the main road outside the hotel! There is no path at all and you literally have to run across the road! which is not very easy with a young child in a pushchair!!!

Also, before i forget...do not get transfer with resort hopper as it takes 1 hour 50 mins from Gerona airport to hotel, but only takes 30 minutes in taxi! It cost e47, but well worth not stopping at every single hotel in lloret to pickup everyone, and they dont tell you it takes this long! Also when you are supposed to ring the day before to confirm your pickup to airport on your return home, it is almost impossible to get through to them!!! Just get a taxi if you can afford it. Saves so much hassle!!!

Would not stay at this hotel again.

I have just got back from a week all inclusive stay at this hotel, and after reading the reviews before I went I was a little worried! some were good and some were really bad, so I thought it best that now Im back I right a fair review which will help people like me who like to know a bit about where your staying before you book!

The hotel itself is inbetween LLoret centre and Fennels , which is quite good as its easy walking distance to both the beaches...

The beaches are gravely sand and hurt your feet alot, so you definatly need some sort of footwear for the beach!

The hotel was very clean and the rooms basic but comfortable for what you need with a TV, that have english channels like 1,2,3 ect.

The hotel food for me was horrible, but I am the fussiest eater in the world!! lol! There was alot to choose from and it was different everyday although I have to say, I think the leftovers from lunch were sometimes used to make new things for tea. The brackfast was continental and english although the sausages one of the days were like hotdogs, there was plenty of food though and it was hot. There was a salad bar every lunch and dinner with every salad item you can think of.

The hotel entertainment was very poor, probably because we went end of Jan begining of Feb. One bar downstairs was just a smoking bar, the first floor was like a grandmas disco, taken over by the Spanish tourists, with Spanish music all showing off their dancing skills. Needless to say I did try to join in to have a laugh when I was drunk but thats something I'd rather forget about! haha! The upstairs bar just had disco style music, nothing much was up to date though.

However, in Lloret itself it was livly and plenty of bars open even though alot were shut. Theres a great club called St Trop which I definatly recomend!!!

After a few days we got sick of the food as there is only so much bread and chips one can eat, but straight across the road there is a cafe/bar, called the Hungry Horse and that did great English food at good prices and the staff were lovly( If you go chek my picture above the bar of a flower and one saying Leeds!) hehe!

I went to Ibiza last year and the Costa Brava just does not compare. I sadly wouldnt return as I thought it was a bit dull and dated, not much to do, but again probebly because of the time of year.

we arrived at royal beach on 7th november 2007 for a week all inclusive at the royal star.although we have stayed in other hotels in the area several times i found this hotel to be very good value for money, very clean, nothing wrong with the food which always had something for everyone. The hotel is ideally situated for easy access to town centre beach, bus station etc.The only down side to this holiday was some of the drunken brits who did not know how to behave or hold their drink, they were not youngsters either, they were not good ambassadors for uk visitors. The only complaint i have about the hotel is the lack of management skills shown by a weak management, who allowed a very small number of our own countrymen to cast a shadow over an otherwise lovely holiday.lastly any one flying into gerona airport do not use reort hoppa for transfers it is only 30 minutes by bus to lloret and two hours by resort hoppa, also you are asked to confirm by phone your departure, both phones are never answered after spending 6 euros on wrong numbers i was forced to ring uk by mobile phone at great expense with no chance of recompence

I would not rate the Royal Star a 4 star hotel at best 2/3 the rooms are very clean and are kept that way for your entire stay its lovely coming back in to your room to find it all tidy with fresh towels every day. The food well we usually managed to find something to eat breakfast and lunch were much better than dinner don't think there ever was a dish that was warm let alone hot same goes for the snack bar but there is a microwave and yes there was chips there at every meal but you don't need to eat them some times it was a struggle to get near the food and a bigger struggle to find a table especially one that was cleared of dirty dishes but for what we paid it was adequate . The hotel sits by a very busy noisy main road but there is plenty of crossing points so you don't need to put yourself at risk trying to cross over. Ten minute walk to all the shops and pubs The hotel staff are possibly the rudest iv ever encountered in any hotel we booked an excursion from the hotel to Barcelona "well worth a visit" you do not get picked at the hotel you have to walk ten minutes down to a bus stop where at least 7 buses draw up to a pavement full of bewildered people running from bus to bus with a slip of paper that was organised chaos after that all other pick ups were outside hotels lucky them!we spoke to the reception about it they just shrugged their shoulders they couldn't have cared less all in all this isn't the worst hotel iv stayed in would maybe go back for a mini break

I spent one week at the hotel, the rooms were cleaned every day, towels, bed linen, however rooms where abit musty. Air conditioning did not work.

The food was ok, did get boring after a couple of days, fed up og chips and pasta, same things on every day. The snack bar was left overs from breakfast and dinner.

The location was good 10 minute walk to the strip, beach 15 minute walk to a stoney beach.

The staff were really friendly, entertainment was rubbish, though it didn't matter went out most nights. Biggest down fall was the noise, would be woken up early hours by unexplained noise, one night sounded like some one was walking on the balcony, my friend was convinced the hotel was haunted but won't go to much into that.

I stayed at the H.Top Royal Star with my mum and my daughter for eleven nights. This proved to be the longest holiday of our lives so far.

The hotel rooms were kept very clean and the staff were very nice and worked very hard.

The food was horrible, for a 4 star hotel we thought if the weather was bad, then the hotel would at least be good, we were very, very, very wrong.

My daughter, after being in the inside pool, which stank, became ill for 4 days and so did a lot of the kids we met.

The food didn't cater for the British people, there was nothing for the children to eat. I had to ask for them to cook fish fingers for my daughter once when she did not eat for three days.

What was left for dinner was cooked next day for breakfast along with chips.

We had a girlie weekend away in the sun at the Royal Star Hotel for 4 nights. When we arrived we were delt with quickly and efficiently. We had a photo taken and was given an all inclusive card.

The hotel was kept clean and tidy with staff around cleaning during the day. Our room had 3 girls in but there was plenty of room and the beds were very comfortable.

The hotel food was great. Two members of our party are fussy eaters but they managed to find something every time. They had some spanish dishes to try eg paella but also had english food available. Anyone who complained about the lack of english food - what do you expect, you were in spain!!

Drinks from the bar were given out at only 2 at a time but this made if fair for the people in the queue behind you. The measures for the drinks were huge so you didn't need to go back too often.

Staff were polite at all times and we had a lot of banter with the bar staff.

There was two sorts of entertainment on in the evening in the two different bars - one for the spanish and the other for everyone else. There was also plenty of things to do during the day too.

This hotel would probably best suit a group like ours ie hen/stag/girls/boys week or weekend. It was very noisey during the day and night with lots of doors banging so not too good for families.

Overall this hotel was one of the best I've been to and would definatley use it again.

My husband I went to this hotel in january 2006 for a few days and returned with our family in september 2006. We had a great time both trips and would go back hopefully september or october this year.

The food was OK always something for you to eat with a 2 year old daughter who is a funny eater she still managed to have something at every mealtime much the same as most all inclusive hotel and we have stayed at a lot.

The cleaners do a great job are room was cleaned every day and clean towels, rooms are a bit small when 4 of you are sleeping in it but really you don't go on holiday to spend it in your room well not when your having a family holiday.

Location was OK we like walking when on holiday its about the only time we do, you have to watch the busy road for the kids.

We didn't have a problem with any of the staff all very helpful we had problems with our transfer and the reception staff helped by phoning around for us to see if they could find anything.

The entertainment staff were first class great with the kids.

You have to make your holiday we all joined in with the games during the day we even all won a medal each except hubby he won a bottle of plonk.

Yes the hotel can be a bit noisy but other people are on holiday too thats not the hotels fault.

One tip for anyone who is going made use of the free bus to visit other htop hotels its great to see them all we have stayed at most of them now and we love the royal star.

Make the most of your holiday after all a holiday is what you make it.

First time I've stayed in Royal Star and it was all I expected it to be. I've stayed in a few htop hotels now and this compares favourably with most of them.

Cleanliness was excellent, but this is what I expect from htop.

Staff were friendly and helpful, especially the chambermaids.

Although the hotel is on the main road it is far enough back that noise is not a problem, but crossing the road could be a problem if you did not use the proper crossings(none outside hotel though).

There were very few kids there, and a lot of Spanish pensioners, so that made getting sunbeds very easy at either outside pool.

Food was ok, but I think that the chefs did not show the same flair that those at the Royal Beach have. They did appear to re-use food from lunch at dinner, but the standard was ok and the presentation very good.

Did not bother too much with the entertainment as I have seen most of the acts a few times before.

Smoking only allowed in the foyer bar where there is no entertainment, or outside the 2 first floor bars beside the pools.

I found that you could get BBC1 and ITV on the tv's in the room along with all the foreign stations

Would I go back -yes, probably at christmas. This is very good 4* hotel.

We arrrived in Lloret de Mar on the 28th September in 2006 and were staying till the 5th October. I went away with my mum and dad and my little boy..

On arrival the hotel looked wicked, but our minds soon changed the staff were vile and rude on the reception. The men were especially vile and the barternders were very rude too. The resturant staff were very nice and so were the cleaners.

The food was vile too. The same every night chips and chips and more chips and so was the snack bar same all the time.

I think the idea of getting 2 drinks for the bar is a good idea though, but no smoking, only allowed in one bar which you cant take children in is good.

There is nothing really to do in the hotel for kids. We went on trip to Marineland which was good but thats all there was to do with a active 15 month old boy. All there was left was the beach and I would not call it a beach it was stones hurt and hurt your to walk on.

The hotel is not in the right location banging all night and sirens all night if you want a peaceful holiday dont go here!!!

Would not say the hotel is a 4 star hotel at all. I have stayed in better 2 star hotels than this.

Better to go here if you are on a stag/hen weekend. I am a lively 22 yr old girl but the entertainment was rubbish. Need to do more there including new staff !!

Dont go with Sunstar lesire either as Pearla the transport who pick you up for the flight back dont turn up and you end paying for your own taxi to the airport. We know we did it waiting outside for 2 hours and the reception staff dont help out even though you have a one year old outside in the middle of the night worst hotel ever!!!!

We weren't expecting 5* as we only paid 3* money but this hotel struggled to make 2* status!!! The hotel WAS spotlessly clean everywhere, all the time - even communal toilets in the bars etc. Food ranged from edible to downright terrible - lots of nice salads and lovely fruit so if you can live on those then you'll be fine (we did) but the rest of it: well, we couldn't figure out what most of it was meant to be but there was stacks of it and none of us (even fussy kids) starved nor did we feel the need to eat out. Queueing for drinks is a pain and the plastic glasses aren't that nice to drink from but for pool safety we quite understood this. POOLS FAR TOO SMALL for the size of the hotel and never enough chairs let alone sunbeds although we always managed to find something to sit or lay on in the sun. Wouldn't return (ever - too many other places to go) but it's really not that bad.

We stayed at the Royal star for 11 nights. On the whole the hotel was good, it needs a little touching up a round the edges, but the rooms were clean and adequate.

The food was ok, I think on the whole all inclusive can be a little samey, but we managed to find something to eat everyday. They do have a good snack bar that is open when the restaurant is not.

The hotel is situated not far from the town, about a five minute walk. The front of the hotel is situated on a very busy main road, and there are sirens going all day. The only big down side to the hotel, was that is was very very noisy. People partying, banging on doors, which seemed to go on all night. Although we never used them, you can call security and they will endeavour to sort it out.

So if your're looking for a peaceful hotel, then take your earplugs!! All in all good value for money. Don't know if I'd go back though.

I have stayed in several Spanish Hotels, and the Royal Star is a typical example of one.

It gains its 4* status thro' having two large outdoor pools and one small indoor pool in the basement area.It also has a gym, free washroom faccilties and childrens play area on the groundfloor.

During my stay I found the staff and guests extremely friendly, we made many friends. There are three bars, a cabaret bar for the Spanish, which is really well air conditioned,a cabaret bar and an adult lounge

The location means you are five minutes from Fanals or Lloret but at the foot of the hotel is a busy dual carriageway, I have got to say this put me off I like to say in more tranquil surroundings, the siste hotel 2The Royal Beach" is a good example of this.

But all in all value for money I would probably stay at this hotel again.

Everywhere was spotlessly clean.

The staff were all very curteous, espesialy the entertainment staff who were wonderfull with the adults but espetialy with the children playing games and in the pool etc.

The evening entertainment was very good
We all enjoyed ourselves and agreed that we would definately come back again.

The only downside was the food which could have been a lot better, but we always managed to get something.

When going out for a walk their are 2 sister hotels where you can call in for a drink (or meals by apointment)which we did regularly as we passed one on our way to the beach which was not too far away.

We have just came back from a all inclusive holiday at the Hotel Royal Star in Lloret de Mar, and I must say that we had a splendid time, We really cannot fault the hotel for any-thing the staff were really helpful and pleasant.

The food was plentiful with plenty of choice & the hotel was spotlessly clean which suprised us after reading such awful reveiws about the Hotel we were wondering if we might have made a mistake in choosing it.

But thankfully we didnt and I would certainly recommend it to anyone.

We stayed all inclusive which we would not do again, the food is the same day in day out so you do get fed up with it!

We heard about the Hungary Horse opposite and saw that there were plenty of other places to eat. For 3.50 euros you could get a meal with a drink so its cheap to eat out.

The kids enjoyed the kids club and the evening entertainment, but for the adults it was typical spain! the hotel was clean, the maids were friendly and so were the staff. Mind you, if you were AI the barmen seemed to pass you off quickly or ignore!

All in all we enjoyed the holiday, we wouldn't go back because once was enough, not in a horrible way. Its a good 20 minutes walk to the beach - beware - very very pebbily, no sand at all.

If you have booked please don't think we hated it, we made the most of our holiday but its something we would not do again. Great for kids.

We were pleasently surprised by this hotel after reading some reports.

We found that although the hotel has rules the staff are very tolerant towards the guests. We met so many nice people on our holiday just a shame we didnt take contact numbers such as the guys we met from Essex, the two we met from Manchester the girls we met from Scotland although we got one number & the guys from Northern Ireland. If any of you read this love to say hi & possibly get in touch.

There was so much to see & do but very little time even though we had a week. We felt that the place was child friendly & safe. My only complaint would be that the food was repetitive but for the money it cost very good value.

Unfortunately the weather was not that great but the indoor pool was a life saver with the kids. We enjoyed our stay so much that we are booking for a girly 3 night break towards the end of May should be around 12 of us celebrating our friends birthday.

Very surprised because generally reports were not good.

Hotel airy and clean, leather suites in lounge, 3 bars.

Bedrooms very clean, hairdryer supplied as well as toiletries, even a retractable clothes dryer. Noise during night when people were returning from night out but you get this anywhere.

Different bars had different entertainment either disco, karaoke or sequence dancing/ballroom. You could visit other hotels within the group and have a drink using your card or if booked in advance you could eat there.

Did not find the pools because we just did not have the time to swim, only there 3 days, market was very busy.

Icing on the cake was the weather which was red hot from 26.3.06 until we came home 29.3.06.

We would definitely visit again.

Stayed in the hotel for one night out of seven, we were meant to stay in the Royal Beach but it was closed due to road works, you were only allowed to smoke in the "lobby bar" between the hours of 10am and midnight, this was the only place you could smoke so hence you were not allowed to view the entertainment if you wanted to smoke.

Full of Spanish, food the usual catered for the spanish.

Sorry can't tell you more but one night was enough for us we returned to the Pineda palace in Pineda and it was great, definetely recommended.

We were supposed to be staying at the Royal beach hotel only to be told by the taxi driver as we arrived at the Royal star that the royal beach was closed until the first of February. When we entered the reception there were lots of people who appeared to be drunk just sprawled over the setees.

The reception were polite and dealt with us quickly. Our room was very clean and roomy. On opening the curtains though our view was of a brick wall and a cemetary I would recommend people to ask for a pool view.

The location of the hotel was just off a bush main road and quite a walk to the beach. The food was another matter repetative and luke warm no wonder they have a microwave.

Wwe only went dowm for breakfast once and had one evening meal in the hotel. The snacks were the same everyday, burgers, chips salad.

The entertainment at the hotel was geared up to the spanish. I do not know how this hotel has been given a four star rating I would only give it a 2 star plus.

I have never known a hotel that the police frequent so often arrest being made, fighting and noise. We wont be returning to this hotel.

Hotel was good, but very noisy at night. Lots of banging doors, could not go to bed till 1.00 in the morning, as it was to noisy. There were stag nights and hen parties. The hen night parties were going down to breakfast in their night clothes and making lots of noise at night. In the club in the evening the stag night and hen parties were taking their clothes of.

It would have been a nice hotel if there were no banging doors at night and less noise.

The staff were very good.

We have been to Lloret de Mar on a number of occations and found this hotel to be one of the best in the winter. Its the only hotel apart from other htop hotels to have any entertainment.

The rooms are a bit outdated and could do with touching up and refreshing but are clean.

We didn't enjoy the meals, it was the same food for the 4 days we were there, mainly eating chips day after day. The restaurant staff were pleasant and so were the reception staff, who we found very helpful when are 3 year old daughter went missing in the hotel. Unfortunately though the same cannot be said about the waiters.

The entertainment was ok, better than nothing I suppose, but it finishes early about 10.30 - 11.00.

Overall I would use this hotel again as the good points out number the bad.

Read all the reports on the hotel and I was horrified.

I neednt have worried we had an excellent holiday. Our room was kept clean and to a high standard on a daily basis.

Cleanliness of the hotel was badly let down by the indoor pool.[needs redecorating also a musty smell.] Food was excellent and to a high standard with a wide variety of choice.

Staff were very friendly and polite, from reception, bar staff and cleaners. Entertainment was good with something different on everynight. Kids club was excellent with Angela and Paco, who also organised the evening entertainment.

We had a lovely time and would have no hesitation in staying here again.ps the nou camp is awsome.

We have just got back after a week in the Royal Star..... and a week was long enough for anyone!

Hotel cleanliness was of a good standard rooms were basic but clean. We stayed on the 2nd floor and often there was alot of noise late at night one night in particluar we had gone to bed unwell with upset stomachs/sickness and was woken up in the early hours with someone signing Is This The Way To Amarillo.

We found breakfast was of a poor standard therefore we ate out most mornings. Lunch and evening meals were ok some repetitive again we ate out in the evenings. Snacks were often cold with no selection.

Hotel location was good only a 10 min walk into the centre. Unfortunately the weather was not that nice when we went so we were limted when we could use the facilities.

Staff on the whole were pleasant some more than others.

The entertainment was poor and we went out every night to local bars.

If you are looking for a cheap holiday then this isnt it, we spent alot of money eating/drinking out.

Just back after 7 nights in the Hotel Royal Star.

The hotel itself was very clean and in a great location. Unfortunately the majority of people in the hotel at this time of year were spanish and german and the whole hotel seemed to cater for them.

The food was very continental eg one evening on the menu was paella, fish with there eye's still in contact or venison. If you did not like any of the above then we had to eat out. Also, having a 10 year old son, felt they did not cater for the children. The snack bar was very basic with a few salad things and dry burgers. We were at a 2/3 star hotel in june and felt the food there was much better.

On arrival our photograph was taken and we were given a credit card id badge. You had to use this to get drinks at the bar, which you were only allowed 2 drinks per person, but if you take another persons card you can get 4, an so on.

The entertainment was very mixed, and unfortunately when we were there the weather was not so good. All the outdoor games such as water polo were cancelled but they did not replace the games with indoor activities.

The only down side to this hotel was the indoor swimming pool. As we reached the basement (where the pool was) we could smell a musty smell. The day after our swim we along with the other family we had been in with all came down with a tummy bug and sore throats. On closer inspection of the pool the following day, revealled the polystyrene rocks and the roof tiles to be coated in black mould and the roof at one part had crawlies, ants, flies and what looked like fly eggs on it. Needless to say we never returned to the pool again.

We were on the 2nd floor and had the "neighbours from hell" on both sides which were very noisy. but after 2am things would quiten down.

Ok for a cheap holiday but certainly would not return to the hotel in the middle of October when we did.

Having read previous reports we were not too sure whether or not to go elsewhere but....

A group of us from blackpool went early september and we should have gone earlier in the season.
The hotel was great, very clean the maids did a good job. the food was acceptable but we found that we tended to favour eating out every other couple of nights to vary things alittle.

The location of the hotel was ok but I must say that the staff where excellant we had a good rapour going with all levels of staff and when we felt down they worked on us and likewise we got our own back.

The animation team where very good as we got to know them personally they soon took advantage of our blackpool spirit.

We would travel again to the Royal Star but we would go when its at its hottest.

It's like any holiday you make of it what you can.

Just got back after a short break and i'm glad it was only
four days. The rooms were as basic as you could get,2 star at the most, the hotel in general was very clean.

Hotel food was the same as most buffet hotels and if you did not go down for 7pm for the first sitting you had to clear the dirty dishes from the table and then find your own knive and forks, this was the same for breakfast as well.

The location of the hotel is good as its only a 10 min walk to either the main area or the fenals area, the main road in front of the hotel is not a problem as there are plenty of crossing areas.

Staff were 50/50 some grumpy and some could not do enough for you.

Entertainment was not what you would expect from an all inclusive hotel, mostly for the kids, and the area for those getting on a bit was good for a couple of drinks,if not just to get away from the kids singalong songs in the main bar area.

This would be a good holiday for a family looking for a cheap holiday, but I would not like to be there in high season as it would be very crowded at dinner and round the pool areas.

After reading other reviews we tried to change our holiday but couldnt and we are very pleased we didnt!

The hotel is very clean and the staff are friendly. Lots of people have said how rude the staff are but remember you are in a foreign country not in england so they dont have to speak English.

A simple 'hola' goes a long way and they appreciate that. I did not find fault with the food, lots of lovely fresh fruit, veg and fish. My favourite was the creamed spinach and as for the kids they ate everything that was put infront of them. Do they really need pizza and chips?

One of the joys of going on a holiday abroad is to try different cuisine, if you want chips chips chips stay at home and got to butlins.

The entertainment was varied, topi disco for the kids everynight which they loved, and then evening shows running until midnight. The entertainment staff played pool game in the afternoon with the adults and children which was good fun.

The hotel is quite clean and spacious, no complaints there.

The food is not even 2 star, what is there is edible if you like it, but there is not enough choice, especially for the kids, no pizzas or bolognais to keep them going, only cold chips. The snack bar was always the same, salad, cheese or ham, burgers, chicken nuggets and cold soggy chips, although we did find something to eat most nights, but towards the end you could not be bothered to eat it.

I think the location is good for families because it is situated between the quieter part and the busy part, but closer to the quieter part and the beach of Fenals, which is lovely if you can get on it, it was a push between other people and the jelly fish.

The reception staff in the hotel are very good, but the bar staff are another story. Some of them don't speak very good English and they get frustrated because they can't understand what you are asking for. Some of them are very rude.

Couldn't be bothered to watch the entertainment it wasn't entertaining enough for me, although the kids enjoyed it. Again 2 star entertainment.

I have been to a lot of hotels in Spain and I have to say that this is the worst one where food and entertainment are concerned. It is definitely not 4 star.

The pool areas are too small to cope with the amount of people, so we ended up going to the beach most of the time anyway.

Pools too small for size of hotel, get your towel on a sunbed before 8.30am, and not by the hotel walls, the shadow stops you getting a tan from 1.30 onwards!

Hotel very clean, lifts very slow, due to kids pressing floor 6 and playing in corridors. Queues for drinks in bars are a pain, take 2 cards and double up to avoid 15 minute wait.

Watch the kids at night, vast corridors and basement by the indoor pool are scary and remote. This hotel allows groups of single sex youths to have rooms, so beware if you are next door to 4/6 18 yr olds, they play music on mtv when they return from the clubs in the early hours! Nice to sit outside the pooltable bar at night, you can hear the music, but not too loud.

Food plentiful up till midnight entertainment - ropey!

The Royal Star is a nice clean hotel.

Most of the staff speak good English and friendly but I would not go back especially not for a family holiday it is more like a 18 to 30 resort.

The food well we ate out more than we did in the hotel, snack bar terrible, burgers, chips every day and they were rock hard, the meals fish, veal, chips most nights we had chicken drumsticks one night out of the 2 weeks we were there, my kids are not fussy but they hardly ate a thing from the restaurant chips is what they ate. Myself and my partner the only decent thing was there soup, if you want a decent breakfast go to the Braveheart bar in Lloret and you will get an good and real butchers square sausage, tattie scone, black pudding ect which was great and staff are all Scottish which was a bonus.

I read the reviews before I went and I didn’t believe what was said but I have been there and now I know.

I wouldn’t recommend it for families not that hotel anyway.

Another good place to go to is the Grand Palace which is just 8 euros each book it at the reception as it is cheaper.

The entertainment that was a disgrace I was in my bed for about 11 pm every night when I stayed in. We had to go out some nights cause you can only take so much of Spanish entertainment. The entertainers for the kids was great day and night especially Angela they were really good with the kids.

Well you can only go and try it for yourself and you will find most of the reviews were right.

The Hotel was alot bigger than we were expecting and were all amazed how clean it was kept.

The communal areas including toilets were always spotless, so either all guests were very tidy or the staff worked extremely hard, I suspect the latter !!

The rooms were cleaned daily & fresh towels left. We had a late morning mid way through our week and the maid knocked and came in but did not seem to mind having to come back later in the day.

The hotel itself had several pools, the main one where most people seemed to go, especially with kids, a further pool although it was being renovated when we stayed (although we would still have used the main one as this pool is more for adults) and a paddling pool near to the childrens play park. The indoor pool was also very good, and warm. The pool/terrace areas were also all kept very clean.

The hotel really had something for everyone, as well as the pools there was a jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, small gym, tv lounge, shop (open 12 hours a day, most days), lobby lounge for over 18's only, a further bar with dancing for older persons and the main entertainment bar we visited every single night !! A well equipped childrens club room open most mornings for several hours.

The food was on the whole very good, each time there was fresh salad and fruit, options for vegetarians and several choices of meats/fish. Once or twice I personally did not like what was on offer but was still able to have salad. But considering the amount of people they must have to please everyday I thought they did a very good job! As I was on an all inclusive there was always the snack bar that was open 30 mins after each meal sittings, which we only used a few times as the meals filled us up.

Although the hotel is near to a main road, it is possible to get into the town, which is a 5-10 mins walk away from the road for most of the way, there are adequate places to cross safely.

The hotel staff were excellent !! My child was ill one night, (nothing to do with the hotel !) and the night staff did all they could to help us, including bringing drinks out of hours to our room.

There was the odd unhappy waiter but this did not stop them doing there job. The only complaint I would say is when we arrived we were told which floor our room was on but it was not explained that there were lifts either side of the hotel, and the first lifts we used took us nowhere near our room, we then happened upon the other set of lifts.

The entertainment we all thought was fantastic, my child loved it. During the day there were several poolside competions for adults and children. My child went to the mini club most mornings and loved it.

Each evening we attended the main bar with live entertainment and really enjoyed it. The entertainment staff one evening did 'Mamma Mia' the musical that was fantastic!! Prior to each live show each night the kids got there time with the entertainment staff at the mini disco which lots of adults found hard not to join in.

I would definately revisit the hotel again when I next goto Spain and thought for the money I paid we got a very good deal in return.

We both thought that the hotel was very clean.

Food was fine considering how cheap we got the holiday. There was always fresh fruit and salad.

The only downside to this holiday was the location, opposite a main road and a 20 min walk to the beach. (nan does not walk to fast).

Entertainment was fine, really enjoyed the spainish dancers.

I would visit this hotel again.

My mother and I came back from this hotel last month and really enjoyed ourselves. Although the food was a bit repetitive as every night they served chips, there really isnt much to compain about.

Our room was slightly noisy so we asked to move and the reception staff were extreemly helpful and had no problem with us. They speek very good English but as I speak Spanish there wasnt much need for it.

The three bars were very good in sevice and cleanliness and you never saw any of the staff standing around. They were very pollite and I made some good friends in the time I was there and I am going back out at the end of this month in hope to see some of them again.

This is deffenitly a hotel to visit but if you stay in for the night, be ware of the loud spanish dj in the terracotta bar. Make an effort to talk to roger, made the holiday.

After just returning from a 7 day break at this hotel we felt we had to write a report ourselves. We had read so many bad reports before going but had already booked and for £200 per adult for all inclusive - well what did we expect, and were just going for a family break.

When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel looked lovely and the rooms were real nice and spotlessly clean. After unpacking we went straight down to the pool area for a drink, where we started to chat to two young ladies, who grizzled constantly about the hotel, entertainment and the food, saying it was always the same, and disgusting and always cold!! Let me tell you in 7 days we never had the same thing twice, there was always a wide variety of salads, always a different soup of the day, plenty of fresh bread and rolls and always 2 different meat dishes, a fish dish, a pasta dish, along with a specialty dish and always chips, potatoes and vegetables, and a wide variety of sweet dishes, cakes and plenty of fresh fruit. We could not fault the food,

I really can’t get over what people have to complain about!! There was always something that we liked and even if there wasn’t the snack bar was open in between meals serving snacks such as chips, burgers, chicken nuggets, pizzas etc.

We had a fabulous time and the weather was an added bonus for us which were just great.

The entertainment was ok, the music was a little out of date but then when you’re in company, we made our own fun, maybe I would suggest you take a few up to date CDs for their disco. Although we did have 4 good shows during the week too.

The hotel had all the facilities for qualifying for the 4 stars it was rated.

The rooms were cleaned everyday along with the bedding changed, and the hotel was spotless, including the indoor pool which was fantastic for us and the children.

We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this hotel to anyone and would definitely return ourselves. We had a cracking time and were well pleased with our cheap family break.

Whoever finds reason to complain about this hotel should seriously consider upping their budget and pay a little more for their holidays!!!

When we checked out our room we knew we had hit the mother. The bathroom was ok ,but the beds wore like concrete slabs so we went to the balcony.

Brilliant view there was a block of flats with peoples washing on the balconys and a crocodiles play pen below ,if you could even call it that broken pallets and god knows what in there. The bar ,terrible ,there's no atmosphere whatsoever its dead and all we saw were elderly people fox trotting to bad music.

We couldnt even look the food in the eye it was that bad and it was stone cold. On the 2nd day I felt ill because of the food.

The cleaners did a good job ,but I dont think it was necesary to enter without knocking at 9am. After day 1 we spent our time drinking in the casino hotel because it was more lively.

Well we booked with teletext on a last minute booking. We didnt have transfers but were told it would only cost 12 Euros for a cab. We found out that it would have cost 45 E. However when we arrived at the airport we managed to get a coach and the driver charged us 10 E and they took us to the hotel.

The hotel staff were very friendly and the hotel itself was very clean. The room was also lovely and cleaned every day. The only downside was the smell of smoke. The smell seemed to come through the walls into the room where others were smoking.

The food was good but it was all the same stuff. We went to a little cafe over the road which did a wonderful breakfast. Real bacon!!! those that have already been to an all inclusive hotel will know what I mean by that.

The weather on the week that we went wasn't very good but we still managed to have a wonderful time. I thought we had excellent value for our money we paid £200. I would like to visit again but wouldn't choose to go there in the winter months.

We booked this 3 weeks before departure and got a fantastic deal we thought it was very good value for money.

Rooms are nice and a good size, TV, heating, lots of storage and comfortable beds. Bathroom a good size, very clean, hairdryer, free samples and nice clean towels which were changed every day.

Reception was nice and big and the staff were very helpful and spoke fantastic English.

Food was a bit hit and miss, don't expect an English fry-up, you get the Spanish alternative. There is always something to eat however picky you are but if you're really fussy then you shouldn't be half board. Dinner was good, a great salad selection, soup and hot meals. Remember they have to cater for lots of Spanish and German visitors too so it won't always be English meals. However the meals were hot and nice. Puddings are good too - lots of choice.

The only downside is the same in all halfboard/all inclusive hotels in that there are masses of people and not everyone joins the queue. Certain people liked to push in and generally wonder around getting in the way!

The hotel is in a good position, yes it's on a main road but it's a 10 min walk from the centre which is good and you're near the water park and bus stop for getting around the neighbouring resorts.

All in all we enjoyed our time here, nice hotel, nice rooms, good food, friendly staff - what more could you want?

The hotel in the communal areas was very clean, the reception staff were very friendly and helpful, the food hall was very clean, the choice on the salad bar was very good, the main meals could have been a bit more selective, sometimes the meat was a bit chewy, there was quite a selection of desserts plus fresh fruit. The breakfast in the morning was something and nothing, there was toast, rolls, cereal etc cooked breakfast was sort of edible, the lunchtime meal was better, would not say the food was 4 star quality, more like 2 star.

The location of the hotel was good across from plenty of shops and the main town was only about 10 minutes away, the staff were friendly, helpful, the entertainment in the evenings could have been better, if you got children they will love the mini disco, for what we paid it was worth it.

The only downfall is that every where in the hotel except for the dining area was very smoky, they have not got a none smoking section, we do not smoke so found it very uncomfortable you got to run the gauntlet of death to get pass the smoke, the swimming pools were very clean, the indoor pool was very clean it was very quiet, the rooms were very clean, the maid came in everyday, clean towels, the maids do a very good job.

This was my 21 month old babies first holiday and I must say for the amount we paid it was a decent hotel.
The hotel was spotless; the toilets were immaculate all the time.
Some people have whinged about the food but I thought the food was good, maybe the meat was a bit chewy at times, the salad bar was excellent and twice during the week that had a carvery on
Id you like a cooked breakfast on your holiday the only thing I thought were ok were the diced potatoes and beans, there was a good choice of healthier options too
The food wasn’t as shocking as some people have made out, I don’t go on holiday to whinge though
The location of the hotel road wise is not ideal there is not even a pavement outside the hotel just a road.
I found the hotel staff to be really friendly except for the grumpy old bloke behind the bar.
Entertainment wise if you have kids its ideal, but imp glad we went near the end of the season as it wasn’t too busy. I would recommend people with young
Kids to go at that time off year
My little lad loved it on the dance floor till about midnight so I have few complaints at all
if I was a couple the entertainment might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the holidays what you make it ,meet people and socialise you wont go far wrong with this hotel.
p.s. Everywhere but the dining room stinks of smoke

We were very much on a chill out holiday. The atmosphere in the hotel was very friendly and the staff brilliant.

There was always plenty of choice in the restaurants so you could always find something to your taste.

The rooms were always kept spotlessly clean as were the communal areas.

Out of the four pools, we only went in one but the pool areas were all very good.

Some of the entertainment left a bit to be desired but when catering for all age groups it can be difficult.

The only down side of the holiday were some of the English guests who seemed to have left their manners in the UK.

There did seem to be a tremendous amount of waste, both food and drink, which is a great shame.

I am 21 yr old student, travelled with two mates each paid £329 on last minute type all-inclusive to get some sun and some heavy drinking.

Hotel was well air conditioned, and fairly clean, if you can get up before mid-late afternoon your sheets and towels are changed daily. Hotel had two decent outdoor pools, although due to towering nature of the hotel around the pools only about 10% of sun loungers receive sun all day the rest receive about 4-5 hours max but this means they are rarely in short supply.

The hotel is well situated, reasonable distance to both beaches and lots of shops. It is set back from a busy main road which to cross, is like running the gauntlet (mad spainish driving, wrong side of the road etc.)

Didn't pay much attention to the entertainment because after a couple of double vodka's it's easy to ignore. The bits we did catch were average but a bit crap really.

THe staff were really good on the whole, bar staff were mainly young blokes from south america or other parts of Europe and India. One fat, bald older guy was a proper chore to deal with and would happily ignore you at the bar then get moody when you announced yourself. The young bar staff were friendly, eloquent, helpful, informative and v.accommodating.

Wouldn't visit this hotel again because although more than adequate I am sure there are other more interesting places in the world for the same money.

Our stay was adequate. Despite all the reviews we read concerning this hotel, we booked because it was a last minute type vacaction for our family.

The location of the hotel was above average; not in the hustle and bustle of the city center (where only the 18-25 yr olds survive), but off to the side near some great restaurants and grocery store.

The staff and customer service were second to known, considering this is a moderate hotel with some of the rudeness guests, we can only imagine the challenges. On several incidents I noticed staff trying diligently to locate parents of little "lost" guests while Moms and Dads were enjoying the all-inclusive bar and pool.

Good thing is the hotel environment is quite safe and lots of activities for the children. Entertainment, while corny in some respects - was actually very good.

Concerning the food, not the best but not the worst either. I was disappointed in the guests as they seem to pile their plates with food only to end up throwing it away. The waste was disgracful. The selection was good and one could always find something worthwhile on the buffet line. One day they offered shrimp and the guests grabbed by the handfull and overfilled their plates again. Our son Chris asked I mention breakfast was awful - but he's a picky eater and the other three (Kyle, Kelsey and Jeylon) managed the morning meal just fine. Failsafe is their are wonderful restaurants out the front door and reasonably priced.

Drinks were a great bargain. Sodas, juices, coffee, and of course the booze flowed throughout the day. Again, the waste from the guests was awful. The staff was forever picking up half full glasses at vacant tables.

Our overall take on the food and beverage was if their wasn't so much waste by the guests the hotel could possibly increase the quality of the food. Don't really see that happening.

Concerning the cleanliness. Yes, all the other comments about the maid service is right on. They continually work throughout the day and evening picking up the various areas. Overall, the place stays quite clean and presentable.

While we stated we would return to the hotel, the Lloret de Mar location was not a place for families. Our teenage boys loved the place, understandably because the town is a mini Daytona Beach atmosphere, but for families it would be best to go 5 minutes south to Blanes or a nearby beach village.

Reception and lounge areas are impressive. Spacious with squashy leather sofas and good air conditioning. Lifts were reliable and plentiful. Reception staff speak English and our check-in was fast and efficient. Service good.
Bedrooms; the air conditioning was great, and the rooms were spacious and adequately equipped. They were spotless, as was every part of the hotel. Only one pillow was supplied per bed, but extra were brought to our rooms on request. Our rooms overlooked the back of the hotel and some scrub land, so were very quiet. I imagine the rooms overlooking the pools and above the bars would have been a little noisy.
Maid service; excellent. Beds were made early each morning and towels and loo rolls replenished. Sheets were changed every three days.
Public area toilets were always spotless and well-stocked, even the poolside ones.
Bars; spacious and comfortable, service fast and friendly, although the two drinks per adult card/ two cards per customer rule can be overdone, especially when, in our case, two of the five drinks we always wanted for our party were water! Cocktails of the day could be very odd! Avoid Sunday’s ‘Tango’ – it’s fizzy orange mixed with crème de menthe and it’s vile! Measures of spirits are generous.

Food

Restaurant; I had read many complaints on line about the food and I have no idea why. The range on offer was very good. There was always a large salad bar and a selection of breads, cheeses and cold meats. Hot dishes were always hot. There was always at least one fish dish, also veal or steak, chicken, a rice or pasta dish, vegetables and either chips or potatoes. My only complaints would be that the soup (a different one at every mealtime) was always watery, desserts were always sweet and heavily processed (jelly, custards and the like) and breakfasts were not as good as lunches and dinners.
There was also a snack bar, for use when the restaurant was closed, which offered a selection of burgers, hot dogs, ice creams and so on.
Packed lunches; sandwiches were dry and unpleasant, but otherwise these were okay, with apples, oranges, water, biscuits, crackers and soft cheese.

Entertainment

Pools; not big enough for a 4 star hotel, but adequate and didn’t get too crowded. One indoor, which we didn’t use because when we walked in it was stiflingly hot, one small and deep outdoor pool and one larger one with a small kids’ pool attached. Sunbeds – we could usually get 4 together by collecting odd ones and moving them, especially because we preferred the shade. Half of the larger pool’s poolside was in shade from 2pm onwards.
Kids’ disco; dreadful! The same dated songs every night (Music Man, Fast Food Rockers etc). Our kids hated it, but there were plenty who seemed to enjoy it. In general, evening entertainment was a bit naff, although the entertainment team were enthusiastic. I can’t comment on the kids’ club, as mine refused to go!

Recently back from Royal Star and found previous reviews to be spot on. Hotel was extremely clean and towels changed every day. The food was a bit hit or miss but it was always well presented and appeared fresh. The hotel is in a good location but the main road is very busy.

The staff were very pleasant and efficient. Entertainment was aimed at younger kids and did not appeal to us very much.

Overall we all enjoyed our stay and would definately return.

Hi its 8th August and we have just spent longest 2 weeks of our life in this hotel. Staff were lovely, often in difficult circumstances ( boisterous customers) the rooms are really nice and are spotlessly clean, the maids work all day long and are always smiley.

The food is awful, we had to eat out for most of the holiday, and I'm not a fussy eater, but after getting food poisoning and spending almost 5 days in my room I wasn't prepared to chance it again.

I have done All Inc several times before and this is one of the worst I have seen, we didnt have kids with us this time(all grown up) but if we had it would have cost a fortune to feed and entertain them and this isn't usually something you budget for if you book and pay for an All inc holiday.

We had to leave our room at 10.00 am on the last day and pick up was not for 14 hours, there was no courtesy room and no clean towels so we could have a shower, again not so bad for us but for families it was dreadful. If you really a "holiday" then this is not the place, the noise is horrendous from the main road right outside the hotel, sirens all day and night from police station opposite and ambulances bombing up and down road and its like trying to cross the M1 if you want to get out anywhere.

Met lots of really nice people tho, and that is all that saved our sanity, so to them can I say a BIG thankyou !!!!

hi just got back yesterday the 27th of july ,stayed at this hotel for a fortnight.
had a good time here wasnt the best holiday we ever had but we met some nice people in this hotel, just quickly want to say hello to mark and lisa from manchester, james from scotland, and steve from wales and anybody else who remembers us.
the hotel was very clean you always saw maids cleaning nice!!
the food was okay there was always something nice to eat, but you cant please everybody\
the location was okay the only negative point being the busy road that you have to cross if you have children.
the hotel staff were friendly especially roger the half english dutch spanish speaking barman.
the entertainment was a bit crap, it was either disco for the kids or an oap on an organ for the adults.which isnt everybodys cup of tea.
i wouldnt visit this hotel again because i would rather be near the beach but i would visit lloret de mar again.all in all not a bad holiday for the price we paid!!

We stayed in the Royal Star hotel for an all inclusive holiday during the first week of the school holiday and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel was spotless they were cleaning it all the time and we got fresh sheets and towels everyday. The maids were pleasant and always said hello when you passed them, reception staff were very helpful, bar staff well you had the nice ones, there was one who entertained the kids by trying to catch ice (he thought he was Tom Cruise in cocktail!!!!!!!) most of it went on the floor but he was always a good laugh, you also had a couple of grumpy old farts!!!! but on the whole they were pleasant.
The food was not al-a-carte but as a family we managed to fill our bellys everynight, (we are not fussy eaters at all and found because of this there was always something to eat, we did hear a few people maoning but to be honest this hotel is one of the cheapest all inclusive hotels ive seen, so if its not to your taste there are a few good restaurants just across the road, we met a great family there and on our last night decided to go out for a meal there.
The entertainment is ok, the kids in the hotel tended to get up dancing etc and we had a good laugh at some of the acts which were on.
To be honest we did not use the pool this was mainly due to when you got down to the pool most of the sunbeds were taken apart from close to the hotel which are fine but this only gets the sun till two or three then it dissapears over the hotel.- We tended to stick to the Platje de fenals beach.
We had a really good time and would definately recommend this hotel.

We are just a couple, no children. We found the hotel and rooms to be clean. It was in a ok location, not far(5 min walk) from the better beach in lloret. We used the beach most off the time as the pool side was packed. Both pools. We took advantage of the picknick when we were at the beach, it was ok.
The food and restauant, were a bit like canteen food. But by the end of our holiday we were enjoying it more. We did see some familys where the children just ate chipbuttys for every corse, so the food can't that good but as I say we found it to be good(ok). The wine is horible, we drank the beer(n
