| said: The Amphitheatre Apartments are located as suggested by their name, right next to the ancient amphitheatre in Lindos. It's a reasonably quiet neighbourhood in that there are no bars etc on the doorstep. The nearest shop is two minutes walk away, the village square is five minutes walk. Lindos reception is about 5 minutes walk on the way down and 10 minutes on the way back up!
There are three studio/one bedroomed apartments, each with a terrace, which is part of a walled garden, that is well maintained. There are three, two bedroom apartments. These are advertised as not having any balcony or terrace. The truth is that only one has nothing. They are actually little houses with an upstairs and downstairs. One is accessed through the courtyard and has a balcony at the back, the other two are accessed from the street outside. We had the apartment that slept 5 or 6 and this has a roof terrace with lovely views of the amphitheatre the one side and the part of Lindos rising on the hill towards the main road on the other. It is not shaded.
Downstairs was one room with a small, very basic and poorly equipped kitchenette, wardrobe space, two lindian beds at the far end and a table, chairs and seating area. Upstairs were two bedrooms with 2 single beds in each room and the bathroom. IMPORTANT NOTE: IF YOU HAVE YOUNG CHILDREN DO NOT BOOK THIS APARTMENT. The stairs are steep, narrow and there is a very nasty bit at the top where falls could occur if either you were a small person or inebriated. Anyone with mobility problems could not cope with the stairs either. Apparently the apartment with no balcony/terrace has steep stairs too.
Due to lack of working space and poor equipment you would not be able to cook a meal, however there is a kettle and a toaster and the fridge is large.
There is no air conditioning downstairs. Both bedrooms have an aircon unit that costs 50 euros per room per week. We could not have done without them to be honest.
The apartment was kept beautifully clean and Sunday was the only day when the cleaners didn't visit. The bed linen was changed one during our week long stay and the towels changed twice. Please note that they only supply small towels. Take your own!
I found the tour operator Argo/Medlife to be a breath of fresh air compared to Manos, Thomson etc. They treat you well and although we never met our rep (our choice) she popped notes into us a couple of times during our stay just to ensure we were all OK.
