| This five star hotel is located in Praia do Forte, only 60 km north of Salvador, the capital of Bahia State. The resort is situated in a privileged location, near the Atlantic Forest, natural lagoons, wonderful beaches where sea turtles lay their eggs. It is also an area to sport humpack whales and coral reefs. |

| said: What can I say, what a great hotel. The building work has now been completed, and even though the hotel was at full occupancy, (being Christmas) it didn't feel overcrowded.
We tried all the restaurants, and all of them were absolutely brilliant. The only down side is that in some of the bars the staff insist that they only have Demi Sec sparkling wine and do not stock Brut sparkling wine, however, in some of the other bars, they would go and get a bottle (or two) from one of the other bars when they ran out. We were there for the Gala dinner on Christmas eve, I have never seen so much food. Lobster, huge prawns, caviare and about everything else you can imagine. There were also fantastic sculptures made out of water melons and chocolate.
All the swimming pools are open now, and although we didn’t sit around the pool, there seemed to be enough sun beds to go round. While we were there, some baby turtles were released on the beach in front of the hotel which was lovely to watch.
Prior to this hotel, we have stayed in the Riu Palace Playacar, and I would rate this hotel as good as that, and I never thought I would find a hotel that good again!

| said: After a pretty long day travelling it was fantastic to see such a beautiful brand new hotel; although it was dark as we searched for our room, the grounds were all lit up and looked stunning.
Our room on the ground floor was 50 yds from the huge pool and only 75 yds from the swim-up bar! I knew it was going to be a "tough 2 weeks"!! Immediately to our right was the beach where palm trees offered a bit of respite from the sun.
The hotel grounds were wonderfully laid out with long walkways running around the boundary and leading back to the main block/food/disco and theatre areas. During out 2 weeks a new block was opened plus another swimming pool and this was a nice quieter area away from the main pool area & noisy people.
The 1 night trip down to Rio is worth every penny just to see Christ - The Redeemer statue alone. It was wonderful!
The traffic layout around Rio is quite confusing, but the tour coach and guide get you around to see all the best sights - brilliant 2 days away - great memories.

| said: Just come back from a lovely 2 weeks.
The hotel is stunning with the most wonderful decor. The rooms are spacious and very tastefully decorated. the pools and sun terraces are immaculate.
There is still work going on in the hotel but you do not see or hear anything.
The food in the buffet restaurant as well as the three speciality restaurants is excellent. This hotel really does deserve it's 5 star rating.
I would most certainly go again. We took the opportunity to fly the 1hr 50 mins to Rio which was well worth it, stayed overnight.

| said: I have just spent 2 weeks (15th Oct) at the Iberostar Bahia and it has some very good points, however not 5 star. There are no optics in the room, no fluffy robes and no beach bar. However the food is excellent, rooms spacious and beach is beautiful. George the First Choice rep is there to meet you off the coach and say goodbye and that is the total of his use.
All 3 speciality restaurants were very good however I felt the resort lacked a Brazilian feel and I could have been anywhere. Typical Iberostar hotel e.g. an impressive lobby bar, windy swim up bar and spacious entertainment room. Star friends as always worked extremely hard and although they were not fluent in English they tried very hard and every day you saw improvements. Nivea, a waitress in the buffet always had a smile at morning and night. The towel sculptures were a nice touch and tips were not expected however gratefully received. Remember you are entitled to 3 speciality restaurants a week, however whilst I was there they were trying to limit it to 5 a fortnight!
The first week the hotel was quite quiet however the second week there were far more Brazilians holidaying in the hotel. This sometimes made you feel like you were wearing “invisible powder” as they always got served before you, although you were at the bar first.
We did the 2 day /1 night trip to Rio and were fortunate to travel we an extremely friendly group of “Macs”. I would recommend to anyone visiting the hotel to visit Rio the statue of Christ the Redeemer is worth the early morning flight. Book with hotel and not First Choice as it is much cheaper. If you can get on the Wednesday trip this will give you the opportunity of attending a football match Wednesday evening and more time for shopping. The Saturday trip is okay but the shops do not open until 2pm on the Sunday and the Amsterdam Gem stores are not open on the Sunday. Be prepared for the weather to be changeable in Rio but don’t let it spoil your stay. Beaches in Rio are just like the postcards.
The Turtle sanctuary in Praia is a must as the village offers an insight into the real Brazil. Havianas are excellent value and a must for everyone’s suitcase. I was part of a group where over 50 pairs were brought back by 5 ladies, whose age ranged from 30-60, as one said “it does matter if you are having a fat day your Havianas will always fit”.
Downside of the hotel is there is only a swim up pool bar to get a drink from and nowhere you can sit outside and have a drink. The entertainment in the evening was the same as all other Iberostar hotels and the disco is often taken over by Spanish/Brazilian and star friends playing House music, and children were allowed in the disco. This I felt was unsuitable as it didn’t open to 11pm and I feel there should always be one place in the hotel that adults can let their hard down without thinking of offending children.
Don’t try to compare Brazil with Cuba, Mexico, Dom Rep as it is a new tourist area and the others have been open for years. I am sure anyone who chooses it in 2007 will not be disappointed and will get excellent value for money. Expect 5 star and you may be disappointed but you will get 4*+, and who knows by 2007 it may have achieved 5*s
Finally I would like to say Hello to Vanessa, Sam, Leanne, Rob, Connor, Ann, Les, Derek and Marlene and thank them for their company and the laughs we shared between 30th Sept and 14th October. I think I speak for us all when I say “We had a ball”. and I brought the “bronze Adonis” home with me (joke)

| said: What a fab holiday, no complaints whatsoever. There is building work being carried out but we didn’t even know it was happening!
Service top rate, food and drinks superb and the staff were always smiling and eager to please.
The entertainments team were fabulous and were on the go all day. The only suggestion I would make is having some quiet time by the pool as they play music from 8 am to 6 pm and it does get a bit annoying, but that is a minor niggle.
One of the best all inclusive holidays that we have had, my 10 year old daughter adored it.
Weather was very good, 26-30 degrees everyday and we had about 6 hours of rain in the two weeks. The only downside was being delayed at Gatwick for about 10 hours and First Choice not even making an announcement to tell the passengers! We only found out by speaking directly to the First Choice desk, given some food vouchers and left to wait. Not even a complimentary drink on the plane, which I thought was very bad customer service.
All in all I can highly recommend the Iberostar in Bahia and will definitely return in the near future.

We were the first from Thomas Cook to stay at this hotel.
Unlike Andy whom travelled with First Choice we did not have the immigration forms we had to complete these at the airport, and them wait for some considerable time to go through immigration, we landed at 5.15pm arrived at our hotel at 8.00pm. I agree with a lot of what Andy said but I notice he made no reference to the weather.
If anybody is travelling to Brazil please note the awful is not what you would expect, now is the rain season in Brazil, you will note the holiday brochures do not give this information, we had considerable long and heavy rain spells, half days of sun a lot of overcast conditions and because of the location of the hotel all you could do when the weather was bad was sit around. We were lucky we went for 2 weeks we did have 4 days of sunshine the first week the second week was on the whole a washout apart from the last 2 days. The sun goes down very early and June is the beginning of Winter in Brazil.
The summer falls in the months of December, January and February.
Having said that I did enjoy the holiday, and the hotel is excellent

| said: We arrived in Salvador on time and having filled in the immigration form on the plane it only took about 20 mins to get out of the airport. First Choice reps George (who was our rep at the Iberostar) and JB (John Baxter) who we first met as our rep in Goa made us welcome and pointed out the transport to our hotel. We had a band at the airport as we were the first, First Choice people to arrive.
Onto the hotel. After going through the impressive main security gate the hotel looked fabulous against the backdrop of palm trees. Onto main reception which again was pretty painless as we had filled the registration forms in on the bus coming from the airport. 10 minutes later we were in our fabulous room overlooking the pool. Our baggage was delivered by the very efficient bell boys we had had a shower and got changed and it was down to the bar for a beer.
The hotel decorations are very very impressive. The hotel architect has done a great job, the building is fabulous.
The hotel was full with Spanish from corporate Toyota. some of their manners left a lot to be desired and coupled with the fact that the bar and waiter staff could not speak English we found it hard to get a drink as they could speak Spanish and they tended to serve the people they could understand. However, saying that the staff were all going to English lessons and it did get a lot better as time went on(also a few real tips went a long way)
The food was very European not like Iberostar in Mexico. There we got steaks breakfast, dinner and tea as they were catering for the yanks. Also we did get lobster and king prawns on 2 occasions. In Brazil we did get steak once or twice and king prawns twice. No lobster but then again there were no Americans there. The food generally was excellent. It was of a high standard and well presented. Food hygiene was excellent. Service in this restaurant was the only thing that could be criticised. I think it was more due to the fact that they could not speak English or us (no Portuguese) but generally it was a bit slow to get drinks or even water sometimes, but they did try and they were getting better.
There were 3 speciality restaurants. First the Japanese. All I can say is don’t miss it. Its great fun and the food is excellent. Nothing more to say as it was my favourite. Service was brilliant
Second was the Mediterranean. This was my wife’s favourite. You had a great selection of hot and cold starters followed by a meat or fish main course. Of course the deserts were fabulous as was all the restaurants. You had your own personal waiter and the service was first class. (Watch out for the wine. every time your glass got half empty they filled it up again.)
Third was the Brazilian (or as they called it the steakhouse) this was the slightly disappointing restaurant. The service was again good but I was expecting the usual hot and cold starters followed by a nice fat juicy steak. It wasn’t. It was a succession of big kebabs of different fruit and meat. There was rump steak and sirloin but it was a large joint of both meats but on a skewer and then sliced off at your table. Nice but not what I was expecting but apparently that’s how the Brazilians have their steak. The food was good just not my cup of tea. Others enjoyed it and you have to try it.
Speciality eating has to be booked and you can get in each one once a week, but you can get in more if there is room. Usual other facilities include games and computer room. Snooker room. Library etc.
The pools are excellent. Some work is still being done round the pool. Some of the sun shades are still to be fitted. 12 were put in whilst we were there, but it wasn’t too inconvenient. Still some more to go in but it should be done in the next week or so. All the decking round the pool is of hardwood and varnished. Unfortunately it became like an ice rink when it got wet and several people slipped. We pointed this out to the manager. He immediately had the varnish stripped. This took about a week, but they did stop at 9am and didn’t start again till all the people had left the pool area in the evening.
Free towels around the pool which you just exchange whenever you like. Plenty of sun beds now around the pool and even more for the beach. When they finish the next phase of 450 bedrooms if there is not another pool they could be a shortage of beds. The swim up bar served all drinks and seemed to be very popular. It wasn’t that easy to get a drink if you weren’t in the pool and the general mille at the top of the stairs all trying to get drinks is positively dangerous and we think the management are going to rail it off, lets hope nobody falls in the meantime. There is a beach snack bar that serves beer and soft drinks plus fast food.(burgers and such like) it is not on the beach as I don’t think they are allowed because of the turtles but it is as close as they can get it. The Brazilian is open at lunch and the pizzas are to die for, as is the main buffet restaurant.
Generally the whole complex is fabulous. The staff and animation team are very friendly. The manager who is a workaholic and will try his hardest to listen to your comments and act on them. All the senior staff are very attentive and again will do almost anything to make your holiday a pleasure even if some communications with the waiting staff and the customers left a bit to be desired. They are on a learning curve and they are picking up our British ways very quickly.
No non motorised water sports. (strong undercurrents) I think that motorised cannot take place because of the turtles. No turtles yet as they don’t lay till later in the year.
All in all we had a brilliant holiday. We did one of the trips but they were generally naf and expensive. 40 dollars each for a conoeing, jeep and beach trek. It was ok but nothing special. Rio was very expensive and most people did it on the way out at the beginning of there holiday. We worked it out to be £300+ each to go but all in all one to remember.
