| said: The Hotel was really clean and tidy
For us, This was to be our main and only holiday which we booked back in January.
We used Resorthoppa for Transfers who were great.
Anyway, Back to the Hotel.
The Staff seemed really nice and during the stay for 14 nights, You get to know a lot of them and can have a good laugh and joke with a lot of them.
As mentioned in lots of reviews, THE POOL!!!!!
Tiny and only 30 sunbeds between 600 people MMMmmm do the Maths!.
We had room 228 which is at the back and looks directly into another building but because there was 4 of us the *28 rooms were alot bigger than the rest because they were next to the lifts.
We had a TV with remote and could watch ITV which was good.
We had a Telephone which we got into trouble with the neighbours with because we got drunk one night and called loads of people including them!!!!! Oooops
Sorry if you are reading this, It was just the one night.
Our room also had a fridge but no mini bar as stated in all readups.
ENTERTAINMENT - Would be a lot better if the Hotel would help the guys out.
The dart board was all taped up with drawn on numbers and we were down to one Dart.
Big up to the team - Tamara, Jiona, Remco and Andreas.
The grease show was fantastic. but the Karaoke ?????.
FOOD - We thought the food was really good and lots to choose from and the dining room decor was exisite.
so much so that we had to question ourselves everynight wheather we were on the titanic or not.
The only downside was the sweets, not a lot of variety.
We went to the Medievil night and Tordera at 12 Euro's each which was ok.
The show itself was fine, The foods wasn't that great but edible.
afterwards, everybody runs to get down into the hall so that they can get a seat for the Flamenco show.
Take my advice. Finish your wine and stroll down.
When everyone has there seat, go and get a seat that is stacked up to the right of the stage and plonk it right infront of everyone else at the edge of the dancefloor. this not only annoys the people that ran down to get a seat but when the stage expands out, means that you are about 2 feet away (result).
BOAT TRIPS - The ones that pick up from the beach are a little pricey so if you leave the Hotel Amaika and turn right, at the next street, turn right then cross the road. You will find a nice little TOURS shop.
WE highly recomend the Catamaran sensation Trip.
A bus took us from Calella to Blanes where we caught the Catamaran, he took us up the coast for an hour during which "ALL YOU CAN DRINK" Beer, wine, sangria,&soft drinks.
After an hour he anchored up in a lovely bay with green water for 1 and a half hours, set out an inflatable trampoline, water mats, a slide and snorkels.
Basically "crack on and go nuts" it was glorious.
whilst we fannied about in the water, the guys on the boat cooked us sausages and burgers on the BBQ.
they when all cooked, served up along with lots of other food.
After which, we sailed back, then got the bus back to Calella. (What a day)all for 130 Euro's for 4.

| said: We went here last year and could not wait t take our friends this year. Wish we had not. The hotel has really gone down in my estimation. The only decent receptionist is Carly (shes american/dutch). The rest were very surly - no help at all.
The food is a hit and miss affair, if you want curried bacon for breakfast - fine if not!!!
Last year no young children, no facilities for them - this year loads of them, still no facilities for them.
The hotel must hold over 400 people - but only 33 sunbeds and three umbrellas - I am not prepared to get down and queue for for sunbed .
The Ameika is based on the Titanic, that hit an iceberg, I wonder what the Ameika's excuse was...... also their flag ship (which is what this is supposed to be) is now flying at half mast. The staff in the bar were pleasant as were the resturant staff(in the main).
We also booked resorthoppa - dont even bother. Our coach to go home showed up 4 hours late - still fighting with the company over that one.
I think I will give this area a miss in future!!!!

| said: We stayed at the Amaika and were allocated a room on the seventh flor unfortunately the heating/ventallation/air conditioning units were situated on the roof directly above our room and the noise went on 24/7 so much so we were unable to sleep We approached the Manager about getting moved to a different part of the hotel, although we were very polite, the young lady was exceptionally unhelpful, it was a case of take it or leave it it's not my problem, she advised us that we were the only complainants, however during our stay we spoke to another four couples who said they had completed complaints forms regarding this.
The food was not what you would hae expected for a 4 Star hotel, very repetitive, same thing every morning, wet bacon and burnt fied eggs, the menu inthe evening varied a little but basically it was the same type of meat in a different sauce, we noted that there was a chef cooking and thought that this would be OK but he was cooking the same a what was already on the buffet. The suop was inedible, and one old Irish man advised us to take the stew in its place as it was more like sop than stew. The sweets never varied and when a tray of fresh fruit was offered it was cleared in seconds.
Overall the hotel was clean, the pool is minute and there was very little room around it to sit. There is no space for children to play. There are no sea view rooms, but at least the rooms to the front of the hotel had a road bewteen them and the buildings accross the road the rooms at the back look directly in a building and there were disco etc very closeby, and you get a lot of noise from these late into the night.
With the exception of the Service Manager the staff in general were very nice and helpful, particulary Carly in Reception and Fati and Mari in the dining room, we found them to be exceptionally nice people and they helped to make what would have been a total disaster of a holiday a little better.
The entertainment wasn't to our taste but a lot of people seemed to like it. The lounge was always very busy, but again it was colder and sometimes a bit wet so people tended to stay in the hotel in the evenings.
The Amaika was reputed to be the flagship of the group in this resort, we visited two other hotels in the group and had feed back from other holiday makers. The group used to allow the all inclusive card holders to use any Hotel and their facilities, this has stopped and only if you stay in the Amaika are you allowed to do this, card holders from the Olympic and the Calella Palace are not allowed to use them at the Amaika, much to some poeples dissapointment.

The entertainment was average.
Rooms are very well laid out.

| said: I've just returned from this hotel with a group of 12 friends.
On arrival even though myself and 2 of the party were the only ones at check-in we found it slow due to the man on reception using the computer and answering the phone. A polite 'one moment' would have been appreciated instead of us being ignored.
We were pleased with our room which consisted of two twin beds, TV with English channels, fridge, mirrored wardrobe. The bathroom was nice but the separate shower cubicle was tiny, but there was also a shower over the spacious bath. Hot water was plentiful. There was a hair dryer and also complimentary soap, shower gel, comb, shower-caps, toothbrushes, shoe shiner and sewing kit.
Food was ample and we didn't have any complaints.
Drinks in the bar were fine although the queue can soon build up when there is only one till open which the barman needs to swipe your AI card. Each evening there is a different 'cocktail of the day' which is included in the AI deal. Coffee/tea/hot chocolate is also available from the machine next to the bar.
The hotel was clean (apart from the odd whiff of 'dirty mop' which could occasionally be smelt near the coffee machine area and also the downstairs lifts). The smoking/internet room has a deodoriser which puffs out a perfumed spray which is a bonus.
We didn't use the pool due to us going in January but it is tiny and I would imagine it would be really cramped trying to sunbathe in the area.
The hotel is non smoking apart from the smoking/internet room (you can take drinks from the bar into there) or outside around the pool area. We could however smoke in our room as an ashtray was provided.
We didn't have any complaints about the hotel and would certainly visit again.

Please please amika GET YOUR FOOD BACK TO WHERE IT WAS...

We ventured into a couple of the other HTop hotels in the surrounding resorts and they honestly dodn't have a patch on the Amaika, different class altogether.

| said: Fabulous Hotel - Themed on the Titanic it had that upper class feel to it.
The hotel was lovely and clean with rooms cleaned everyday. Rooms were spacious and came equipped with a television and a fridge, the bathrooms had two showers in them.
The food was hot and plentiful and the choices were tremendous ranging from hot and cold meats to the seafood and salads.
The pool area was a nice size (small for the size of the hotel) but was never overcrowded as people came and went as they pleased.
The reception and restaurant staff were very helpful and the bar staff were absolutly amazing, very cheerful. Watch out for the cocktails!
Entertainment ranges from the local singers, Flamenco dancers to the disco and the staff entertainers (very funny) - Plenty of scope to suit all ages.
Would definately return - Go All Inclusive.

| said: It was the first time for us to go all inclusive.I was a bit worried as i am a very fussy eater. I thought this hotel was great in all aspects. There was an excellent selection of all foods with a lot of care taken to the presentation. The cleaniness of the hotel areas and our room was excellent and we had clean towels every day. The great positive for me was it was a no smoking hotel and the bar closes at 12 midnight so you have no music etc late in to night. The location is great. The only negative was the very small pool and pool area (we never once got a sunbed)but the beach is 1 minute away so it was not really a problem. You can have use of the gym, sauna & jacuzzi. They have a shuttle bus going to other resorts where you can eat/drink in one of the other sister hotels. I would recommend this hotel to anyone whatever age group.

| said: We arrived on a Friday night and check in went smoothly. We received a card that must be scanned at all times when you are getting drinks.
Room was spacious and clean. TV with some English channels we had a bath with shower over it and also a separate shower cubicle. Everything we needed was also provided spare toiletries if you had forgotten anything.
Bar area was lovely and much to my delight NON SMOKING!! Also you are not allowed in this area without shoes and your top on it is signposted although the staff will also remind you of this! (There was some guy on our last day moaning about this fact and I am not suprised that they asked him to put his top back on he didnt have the best figure!!)
My only gripe is that the pool area was very small and didnt really accomodate the amount of people at the hotel plus all the smokers tended to sit outside. We had a larger balcony so sunbathed on there instead.
Food was lovely, on the day of check in you are allocated a time for evening dinner and must stick to this time. Food was always plentiful and there was always something to have (I did find it amusing there never seemed to be any cucumber)Breakfast was ok but bacon is horrible. The desserts were really nice not too much just enough.
Drinks very strong all barstaff were nice and friendly apart from one young lad who seemed to have a slight attitude. Always say please and thank you it is appreciated by the barstaff and dont forget to tip before you leave. I would highly recommend this hotel and will probably visit next year.

Bath a bit small and shower cubicle small but had everything in the bathroom from a hairdryer, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, razor.

Pool area a little small for the amount of people, staying in the hotel.

Hotel very clean and posh.
Food very good, even for kids, yes I agree some of the food was cold, but that's due to the method of serving. Microwaves on hand, or just ask for new - no problem.
Rooms excellent, very spacious and TV Spanish & English.
Entertainment, ok but for the more mature age group, nothing really for the children, odd disco.
Pool area very small for size of hotel and can get a bit crowded.
Location excellent near the beach, 3 min walk.
Staff some very courteous, but the higher the management the more, well what word I'm looking for,
need to go on a "Customer Relations Course", or spend a day on Reception.
We would definitely go back.
Oh and don't forget if you are an all inclusive guest you can use the further two hotel's in the H Top groups chain a couple of minutes walk away.

Food good, great selection of salads, meat & fish, vegetables, pasta, puddings etc. Breakfast included muffins/rolls/ croissants, cold meats/ cheese, fruit table and all the usual cooked - sausage, beans, eggs..... others commented food not always hot but we went most times at beginning of meals and this wasn't a problem. Drinks also good although only 2 can be ordered at a time.
Location of hotel is good, 2 mins from beach and a short stroll to shops/ bars. Train station a good 15 min walk but taxi cheap.
Didn't see much of day entertainment but evenings consisted of either disco, man with piano, band etc not all to our taste but something for everyone.

The room was welcoming, and fully heated etc. cleaned everyday, clean towels daily too. Comfortable beds, even a fridge in the room! You dont need to take shampoo/soap/toothbrushes/combsetc. ALL THERE FOR YOU.
Food-well all I can say is that we were spoilt for choice, also as much wine with our meals. On christmas eve, and christmas day, we had bottles of wine on out table, and champagne. When the D/room was closed. You could still go and have snacks, as much as you could eat, although the food was so plentiful throughout the day, we were too full.
Evening entertainment was brilliant. Families of all ages enjoyed themselves.e wouldnt hesitate to go again, maybe not et as much (and drink!)A wonderful Hotel, friendly, and most of all SPOTLESS.

It's spotless and the rooms cosy and clean.
The biggest fault we found was the food not varied enough and to frequent warm. we had veg soup three nights in row.
We were lucky with entertainment as we three good nights. The bar staff were very friendly.
There's a train to barcelona 10min walk away which cost 6euro return, non bad for a two hour return trip.
The resort is mostly shut now, so a short stay suited us.

Onto the restaurant. First impressions were good well laid out and staff helpful. The food was the worst i have ever had. It was always cold or lukewarm at the most. I am surprised that no-one went down with food poisoning. There were microwaves about 6 of them but you shouldn't have to reheat your food.
Entertainment left a lot to be desired but we made our own entertainment and usually went into town.
Food and entertainment spoiled which otherwise would be an excellent hotel but for these reasons we would not go back.

It wouldn't have been my first choice from the brochure and to be honest I wouldn't go again.
My only real gripe with this hotel is that the pool area is too small.
My only advice to you if you are staying here is get out to the pool at 8:45am with your towel......because at 9:05am after the pool is open you will not get a sun lounger for the rest of the day.
You have been warned.........

Babies food had to be made using the water from the bar vending machine between 9 and midnight. The food for children is poor mainly chips. The snack bar is in the restaurant on the 1st floor the menu is chips, beans, chicken nuggets every day your children must dry off and dress if by the pool to be allowed in the restaurant/snack bar. Drinks and ice cream are not available at snack bar times. I feel the staff/entertainment staff tried but were not meant to entertain children.
The pool is far to small for the size of the hotel. I feel for adults this is a clean friendly hotel, but just is not up to the task of entertaining or catering for families. I booked this holiday as a all inclusive but not to this hotel (I was transferred as my hotel was not ready)

Down side is very small pool area and only about 50 sunbeds for the Hotel wich has about 350 rooms , mind you there is no room for any more as the area is so small .
Food was always tepid and never hot even when straight from kitchens and of a poor quality.
Taken holiday all in all it is a cheap holiday in a good hotel but pity about the food.Hotel never a 4 star

Food was good; plenty to choose from, a little cold sometimes but hey there was a microwave.
The sweet area at dinner is fantastic. If you get tired of the food approx 100 metres away is a great chinese,7.50 euro eat as much as you like.
Staff great especially the dark haired woman in the restaurant, very intimidating at first but she was smiling before end of week.

It took 4 maintanance men 8 days to get a screwdriver to stop it wobbling and it did'nt work, so we got moved it and still has'nt been repaired so we moved on the balcony below so we could see.
The children's club was just taking off when we left they were starting to do more with them . Masha the kids entertainer is great with the kids ( and adults ). We will miss her lots. There is'nt much choice for the children with food my children lived off chips for the fortnight, everything had a sauce on it. We ate at Alcatraz quite a bit on Sundays they did a great dinner my kids ate adults portions and almost licked the plate clean they were that hungry .
The hotel was'nt for us expecially when you have 3 children .

| said: I’ve just arrived back after a week in Calella booked at the H. Top Amaika Hotel (Costa Brava) and wanted to share my experience.
First thing I should say is that thanks to forums similar to this one, I wasn’t disappointed as I knew what I was letting myself in for. In particular, the food is not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. It was generally not hot and tended to be of the cheaper poorer quality type, although there was a good variety and in abundance. (We opted not to go for all inclusive but half board was included.)
Again, thanks to reading these forums on the hotel, when I was given the chance on booking to ask for any special request, I immediately asked for a room overlooking the pool on the first floor. The result was that I got a room with an extended balcony with our own sun beds. I reckon there are only about 6-8 of these available so go for it and ask when booking.
The pool is small and all sun beds were booked with towels early morning. The staff appeared to do nothing about this problem and I felt sympathy for families with young children who wanted to sit around the pool.
Most times the staff were quite polite but the bar seemed to be where problems arose with all inclusive customers and cheap imitation drinks.
Half way through the week, my wife and I took the train to Barcelona; a city we love and spent a week last April. We had seen and noted a 2 star hostel on the Ramblas called “mare nostrum (http://hostalmarenostrum.com/descripcio.php?idioma=en) and noted it for our son to try. On arriving on the train, we had a look at it inside and ended up staying 3 days.
We enjoyed Barcelona so much more in the 2* hostel than in the 4* Amaika, though after walking miles around Barcelona again, it was nice to return to the Amaika for the last 2 days and rest on the balcony in the sun.
In short, the Amaika would have been a real let down but that we had read up on it. However, the experience was OK and at around £260 each including flights (Ryanair) and half board, we got what we paid for. 3-4 days in Calella was just about the maximum I would have wanted to stay.
Hope this helps someone else and thanks to those who posted to the forums and allowed us to get an insight.

| said: Probably the best of the chain of hotels.(H.TOP) in the Costa Brava.
Do not go to this Area on the first of April,as it is the week thousands of fifteen year olds from all over Europe go for their Anual Holiday, during the day they appear to be organised, with Adults in charge, but at night, all night, they are let loose. No one in Callela sleeps.
The Hotel was clean friendly, and apart from the main facilities being too small for 600 people, was exellent value for the money.
Yes I would go back, but not on the 1st of April
As an All In holiday, we were allowed to eat and drink in any of the chain of Hotels owned by H.TOP. So any town we visited we could eat and drink for free.

| said: This was my 2nd stay at the Amaika, having stopped for 3 nights all inc in Dec 2005, and it was so good we booked a week in Feb.
We arrived just after midnight.on 15th Feb, just too late to get all inc drinks. Check in was very quick and very pleasant, we even had our photos taken and recieved our all inc cards before finding our rooms.
The hotel was very clean and the staff very friendly. Our rooms were quite spacious, and you wanted for nothing. The bathrooms were quite large and everything you need was waiting for you, inc HAIR DRYER, SOAP, SHAMPOO, SHOWER GEL, COMB, TOOTHBRUSH and TOOTHPASTE, RAZOR, and even A SHOWER CAP.
The food was very good, although it could have been a little warmer, but the choices were excellent, and there was no problem finding a table for 7. The waiting staff were brilliant, coming round at lunch and dinner, serving wine, beer, soft drinks, etc, and were always very polite and smiling.
The bar staff were some of the most friendliest I've come accross, and there was never a long wait to be served. The entertainment was acceptable but nothing special, just some local musicians, and vocalists, but they weren't too bad.
They did have quizzes and bingo etc during the day, but we rarely stopped in the hotel to take part. There is a small gym, free of charge open most of the time, and also a jacuzzi and solarium but you must be 18 to use them, and book them in advance at reception.
There is also internet available, but at 5 euros per hour, i was told by the receptionest that it would be better to use one just around the corner friom the hotel. I did and it was only 50cents for 1/2 hour.
The hotel is pretty central, about 200mtrs from the beach via an underpass because of the railway. The station is about a 10 minute walk away but you can get to it via the back streets are where there are plenty of shops and bars, to take in.
All in all I could have no complaints about this hotel at all, and will certainly be returning in the near future.

| said: The hotel is in a good location with good size clean rooms. Staff and barmen friendly enough.
We booked All Inclusive and we were only glad that it was only for a three day break as the food was not up to 4* standard. The hot food was very bland and the salads tasteless. Not a lot of choice for children unless they like chips & pasta.
We do not usually eat them at home but was glad to find a Burger King open in Lloret.
The pool and sun terrace is far too small for the size of the hotel so I would not recommend a family AI holiday here in the summer as I do not think it would be value for money.

| said: Had a great 3 day break in the amaika. Hotel was spotless. Food was varied and tasted good. I've stayed in more expensive AI's before and they are not a patch on this. Normally AI spirits and beers are weak or give you the impression that they are watered down. This is not the case in this hotel. ( my new pal stevie had his shirt off before 11 o'clock on the 1st night not bad considering we had only arrived at teatime!).
Entertainment was okay with a magician and fire eaters. Franco or Frankie plays an organ on a friday night with his wee wig on his head belting out the classics. he's hopeless but you will wet yourself when he says amarrrrrrrillo.
Staff were spot on and were always up for a laugh. Great location for the beach, walk acroos a road and your there. Calella seems a nice town but they need to get their council to sort out their pavements. Great rooms in hotel, balconys could do with a makeover though.

Food was good pool clean entertainment very good wev,e been A/I 17 times now in 4 years and would say the Amika would come in the Top 5 { and thats comparing 2 star up to 5 star ultra } may be a bit biased as we only payed £ 199 which we thought was a bargain so impressed were going back in June well 6 out of the 9 are.
Don,t be put off by some reports this Hotel is definately worth a visit.
I,ll try and add some photos of the decor in the Costa Brava Photo Albums

Arrived at the hotel it looked lovely from outside, nice little water fountains with lights. The reception staff were lovely, the rooms were good, had free soap, shower gel, shower caps and even tooth brushes.
The bar staff were very nice even James Bond was very nice and helpful, the pool was good with sun loungers.
The evening entertainment was good with a few shows and a bit of a dicso, the food was very good considering they had to cater for so many people and all of our family enjoyed it so much that we are visiting again 1st april for 5 days so can't be that bad.
All in all we had the best holiday that we have ever had the weather was lovely really hot so hope we enjoy it as much as we did last year.
