| said: The Dom Joao 11 hotel is approx 10-15 mins walk from the village of Alvor.
It is situated in lovely gardens next to a wonderful beach and the views are breathtaking. This was the first time in Portugal for myself, my wife and our 7 year old daughter.
Our room was on the 5th floor of 5 and we were happy with it. Access was by lifts or stairs. It was very clean, had a balcony with a view of Alvor, comfortable en-suite, satellite TV and air conditioning.
The beach was immaculate and had a bar / cafe. Climate was hot and dry but comfortable. The sea was cold but refreshing. An outdoor pool proved very popular and the hotel provided free sunbeds, beach towels and umbrellas.
Meals were hot and cold buffet self-service. Food was good with lots of choice. An entertainment team provided numerous day time activities such as Kids clubs, water aerobics, football and volleyball. They also put on musical shows and competitions in the evenings.
The guests were all nationalities but mainly Portuguese and British. Staff were very helpful and fluent in most languages.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel and can recommend it.

The hotel has a lovely swimming pool and the entertainment staff work very hard to ensure you have a good time. They put on evening entertainment. They also do a daytime entertainment program including painting which is nice for a change. There is also a childrens club.
It was winter when we went so it was very quiet. We noticed this year when we returned to stay at the sister hotel (this hotel was closed) that refurbishments were being carried out to this hotel.
Although the rooms aren't that big they are lovely and clean and have everything you need. If your view is important to you, pay the extra for a sea view, it is fantastic. If you don't pay the extra you will probably overlook the car park. When arriving at the hotel you arrive at the back which doesn't look very impressive. It is when you go inside and see the views from the front, that you see what a lovely hotel this is.
There is also an indoor swimming pool, sauna and steam a few minutes walk away in the Atlantic (sister accommodation).
The restaurant is nice and we found the food excellent. You also have the chance to dine around at sister hotels. You just need to book at reception.
The hotel also offers a courtesy bus to Portimao for shopping etc.
We loved this hotel and would definitely go again.
