3 unheated pools and a man-made beach and kiddy paddling pool equalled lots of space for everyone, depending on what you fancied. Kids facilities looked so good we had a go on the swings and trampoline.

Only negative - offered twin room, but we were changed to a double with no view but it was more peaceful there than the rooms facing the pools or bars, so we were very happy.
No baths but showers were constantly hot and good strength, with bathrooms and rooms kept immaculate every day - we even had animal towel creations on our bed 3 days out of 6 - a lovely touch.

Muslim country so was surprised at the occasional topless and thong clad ladies, but chose to not follow that lack of respect to the locals, even though I prefer to go topless.

Breakfast was routine but trays were kept filled and there was hardly any waiting to get a freshly cooked omlette or egg. For lunch we tried out the various restaurants - the pizza was excellent in the sunset bar - or took an extra roll and some cheese and ham to make sarnies with no strange looks from staff or problems in doing this. Dinner was an interesting variation, as long as you rotate your selection, and most nights there was an additional outside barbeque.

We paid for our drinks and lunches and ended up only spending £35 each - but are not major drinkers and did take in our own bottle of Jack Daniels for the room.
Weather was excellent with a lovely sea breeze to ease the heat.

Trips out included: Luxor for Valley of the Kings (£67 each) - worth the journey and inc lunch - and with good company; and Diving (2 intro dives £37) - lunch and drinks on board came too £7 for 2 of us).

Apart from the room swap I have nothing bad to say about this hotel. Your in Egypt so keep your liquid intake up, and the sun factor on and you will be fine. And no bites when at the resort - only when in Luxor in the late afternoon.

What a lovely hotel this is! It was like an oasis in the desert.

Desert Rose is situated south of Hurghada, on Safaga Road, about 15kms from down town. The Hotels on either side are Dana Beach and Golden Five.

The hotel and rooms were immaculate, exactly as they were shown on their web site, and were kept that way by the many staff working about the resort.

The rooms were a very good size, and in very good condition. Bathrooms large and fully tiled. Plenty of hot water. The beds were comfortable, and the Air Con worked well, and quietly.

All the staff, from reception to gardeners, were so friendly, and so pleased that the British had come to their hotel at last. Before, it had been mostly Russians Germans and French. Who were also there when we were.
The Hotel is trying to get more British people to stay there. They really do like us.

Being January when we went, there wern't that many guests, and the grounds seem too large for the number of people. And the three large swimming pools were not used very much as the weather was not the warmest it could have been - most of the time there was a cold wind. But there were places to shelter from it, then it was warm, until the sun went down, then it was very cold. It's a good job the hotel has indoor bars and entertainment at night.
The Winter Gardens was open for kids disco and a show every evening. The Piano Bar was the place we went to every night for a few drinks. In there, there was a duo singing - not a piano playing as you would expect. And there is also a 24 hour bar in reception.

The prices for drinks were quite reasonable - more than in the town - but this is a hotel, you expect it.

The food was OK. Quite a good choice, but as usual, it was not always hot. That was about the only thing we could find fault with.

Being on half board, we had our lunch at the Sunset Bar, which was in the centre of the complex, near the beach. The Pizza's were nice so were the salads and the Panini's. Cost, between 20LE and 40LE. And, of course, you could always get Fry's. If you asked for chips you got crisps. Beers were about 20LE a bottle (large ones). A bottle of water cost 12LE inc. tax for a large one. If you went to the supermarket opposite the hotel a bottle of water cost you 2LE.

The other eating place was Fish Corner which was near the lagoon. We only had food from there once. It was OK but nothing special.

The Hotel on a whole was great, really really friendly, you only had to ask, if there was anything you needed. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a relaxing stay away from all the hassle of town.

It is FIRST CLASS.
