| said: It is difficult to know where to start with this review without sounding too negative. Our impression of the Holiday Inn seems to vary from previous reviews – although things did improve during our stay.
Check-in.
We arrived at around 9:00 am, after taking a taxi from the airport. We were told that check-in was from 1:00 pm, but they would see what could be done. Unusual for a charter type hotel, where charter flights are early in the morning but, perhaps unavoidable. We eventually were allocated a room shortly before 1:30. The problem was that rooms seem to have been allocated on a last come first served basis – we were the second to last to get a room – many others being accommodated first – still this was Goa. Reception staff very unhelpful throughout.
Room.
Fairly well located, ground floor – although top floor had been requested. Facilities seemed fine – as expected. Very hot and tired so took a nap. The bathroom was not clean – what looked like vomit behind the toilet and grime behind the bathroom door. Used antiseptic wipes to clean up the toilet before my wife saw it and took a shower. Walking back to the bedroom area, noticed my feet were filthy. The floor tiles in the bedroom were disgusting – the paving outside was cleaner! (We were promised that this would be rectified – but only the dirty floor was cleaned) They seemed to open the bathroom door to clean – and never looked behind it!
Main Bar.
Service varied from excellent to very poor (this was noted throughout the hotel – not just the bar). Noticed re-using of snack items when left.
Pool area.
As with most Goan hotels, the pool staff seemed to reserve sun beds for those who paid most! Great, apart from the fact that they were reserving for guests who were not staying in the Hotel – yes British! Pool service was on occasions particularly bad, with waiters staying in the shade and nattering rather than doing their job. This improved vastly during the second week
Food.
Breakfast was very good. Good selection of local, European and English breakfast items with good service. Lunch in the Indian village restaurant (only tried twice) very good and reasonably priced. Dinner in the Indian Village restaurant – excellent and well priced. There were also Chinese, Buffet, A La Carte, and a shack style BBQ / Fish restaurant.
Spa.
Advertised as Ayurvedic, but you could also get Swedish and Thai massage. A bit pricey as the facilities did not compare with most other spas we have used in hotels. The Thai oil massage was excellent. Unusually no spa underwear was provided – be prepared to use your swimming togs.
Location.
The hotel grounds were fronted by Mobor beach - an excellent beach. It is a short ride to Cavelossim for restaurants (never found any to recommend) and the local ATM. Also restaurants close to the hotel – Fishermans Wharf – very good; Bettys – good, but perhaps not what it used to be; Hill’s Den – we only tried it once, but was OK. Also 5 shacks on the beach – Sams and Pearls being preferred.
Entertainment.
There was themed entertainment on most evenings.
Verdict.
The Holiday Inn grew on us. Once the room had been cleaned and service improved we were quite satisfied. The location is excellent.
Would we return? Quite honestly, if we wanted to be on Mobor beach – yes. If we just wanted to be in South Goa – no.

| said: We were first allocated a room in the far rear of the complex, which although clean & tidy felt "out of things" & almost an afterthought as there was nothing in the mini bar nor toiletries in the bathroom.
After a quick word with our very helpful rep we were moved to a lovely room overlooking the pool. It was spotless with regular fresh flowers in the sitting area & bathroom, clean towels twice daily, fresh linen daily, bed turned down & favours left each evening. The mini bar here was well stocked & there were plenty of toiletries.
The staff would always friendly & helpful, in fact they couldn't do enough. The waiters remembered your room number after one visit (our moving did confuse them!) One waiter got the chef to make up some taster sizes of local food for me to try as I couldn't make up my mind.
The hotel was spotless, there were always staff cleaning. I even saw a guy cleaning the railings in the lobby with a toothbrush!
The inclusive breakfast was buffet style & there was anything on offer, which you would possibly want - continental, cooked, Indian, fruit, cereal & a chef cooking your eggs or pancakes however you wanted them. Plenty of juice, tea & coffee available.
We ate in the Chinese restaurant & it was superb! I would highly recommend it but take a wrap as the air con was powerful.
We also tried one of the themed nights & they certainly went to an enormous amount of trouble & the choice of food was amazing.
The pool area was lovely, sunbeds usually available if not right beside the pool then nearby in the gardens.
The spa area is tucked away around the back but well worth a visit. I had a luxurious massage & felt so relaxed afterwards.
The entertainment I have to say left rather a lot to be desired in my opinion, very amateur & very out of date, but this seems to be the norm in big hotels out east in my experience.
The bar did some lovely cocktails & there were nibbles on the tables. The speed of the staff dealing with your order could vary though.
The laundry service was quick & very efficient.
However messages were slow being delivered to the room.
There were quite a lot of Russians at this hotel too, who I found to be very helpful, with things like putting up umbrellas etc
The jewellers in the hotel was very helpful but I really had to barter very hard & stand my ground to get what I wanted & even then it was made up in the wrong carat gold so I had to threaten not to take it before I got compensation for the lower grade of gold.
Having said that the item I bought is beautiful, a one off & was made very quickly.

| said: This is our third time to Goa and have previously stayed in the North at Calangute. It is our first time staying in the South at the Holiday Inn. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, where breakfast is served buffet style with an excellent choice of hot and cold food. My husband and myself had booked a pool view room which we were allocated on arrival. My Mom had made her booking later than us and had been allocated a room some distance from us around the back of the hotel. After expressing our concerns to the Manager a pool view room was allocated to her within a day at no extra cost. The rooms are very large and are kept immaculate with bed linen and towels changed daily .
Nightly entertainment was provided which was excellent value for money.
The hotel staff were very helpful and extremely friendly - nothing was too much trouble for them.
The pool area and gardens are frequently cleaned making it very pleasant to sit around.
The hotel is ideally positioned on the beach with a good selection of beach shacks. We used the Titanic Shack where Deb made us very welcome looking after us and serving excellent food and cold Kingfishers.
We would highly recommend this hotel and hope to return soon.

| said: Excellent hotel, extremely clean, rooms serviced daily with clean bedding and towels, evening service come in to turn downyour bed for the night! Rooms have tea, coffee and hairdryer, toiletries replaced daily as used.
Had food on B&B basis, so can only comment on breakfast which was buffet style with hot & cold English and Indian food, fruit juice, cereals, nuts, meat & cheese, various breads and cakes etc, also eggs cooked to your liking, fried or omelletes, dosas made to order.
Friends had al a carte food one evening which was excellent and well priced.
Location of hotel approx 50min in taxi from the airport Local stalls outside main gate selling the usual variety of goods, shoes and souveniers, also restaurants within walking distance. Short taxi ride for 100 rupees to area with more shops and restaurants.
Staff friendly and accomodating, always have a smile and are ready to help.
There were themed evenings with entertainment and food, though we did not go to any of these as we prefer to "do our own thing" Karioke was rather noisy and went on until after midnight which was not good if you were trying to sleep.

| said: Have been to Goa several times, the first time to a different hotel, but then we were recommended the Holiday Inn and have been going there ever since.
On arrival at the hotel, your luggage will be taken from you and delivered to your room. From the reception area you can see down to the pool, and the sea beyond.
Just off the reception is a coffee shop, automated casino, three shops and the Sundowner bar. Underneath the reception is the Whispers of the Orient and the Mardi Gras restaurants.
The Hotel is set on two floors, and has six sections fanning out from the reception area. Because of the shape of the hotel, none of the rooms are far from the main area. I’m not sure that this would be a good hotel for wheelchair users though, as there are no lifts, and at some point you will need to go up or down stairs, depending on where your room is, up to the bar or down to the restaurants.
The rooms have just been refurbished, and although not huge, are very comfortable and kept very clean. All rooms have satellite TV, bathroom, balcony or terrace, tea / coffee making facilities and hairdryer. Shampoo, bath gel, shower caps and soap are provided
Whatever time of day you wander around the hotel, there is always someone cleaning something. The hotel is kept spotless. The staff are very friendly and efficient, and service is with a smile.
We always go All Inclusive as the price of the drinks is quite high, and you don’t always feel like going wandering in the evening. If you do pay for any meals or drinks, don’t forget to allow for the tax on top.
The breakfast offers you eggs cooked to order, Indian breakfast, bacon, sausages, beans etc, as well as fruits and breads.
Lunch doesn’t offer much of a choice, but you can order snacks from the poolbar. Breakfast and lunch are served at the Mardi Gras, which is used as an a la carte restaurant in the evening.
Dinner is served at “The Village” and consists of soup, salad, cooked meals, barbecue area, freshly cooked nan bread followed by a selection of desserts and fresh fruit. There is usually some entertainment, either singers, or dancers, and I must admit the entertainment in December 2005 was much improved, and actually quite enjoyable.
All meals are buffet style, except the Mardi Gras a la carte and the Whispers of the Orient Chinese restaurant. Haven’t eaten at the Mardi Gras yet, but he Chinese is fantastic.
The pool and surrounding area are kept immaculate, and the pool was made deeper a couple of years ago and is much better now. There is also a vast expanse of lawn for those wanting to sit in the shade of the palm trees.
There is a path from the pool area which takes you directly to Mobor beach where the hotel has a fish grill.
On the beach is a selection of beach shacks and some beach sellers. We go to Mikes Beach Oasis most lunchtimes for a curry and some Castle beer. The stretch of beach here is much quieter than Cavelossim, and you can walk for ages in each direction without passing another person, or relax on a sunbed watching the fishing boats not more than twenty feet in front of you. There aren’t enough sellers for them to be a nuisance, and I usually buy something from Maria and then tell everyone that I only buy from her.
If you like an adventurous holiday and plenty of nightlife, then the Holiday Inn probably isn’t for you, but if you like to get away from it all, relax and watch the world go by, then you will love it.
There are a few shops and a couple of bars over the road from the hotel, or a ten minute taxi ride takes you to Cavelossim where there is a selection of shops and restaurants.
