| said: This has got to be the worst hotel we have ever stayed at. And that would include some very grubby club 18-30 prisons some 20 years ago!
To call this a 4 star is an absolute travesty.
It is very dated with rude staff!
I would not normally write on such websites but I feel that this hotel is living on a past reputation (probably from the 1980s) & can still operate & take punters money. So I hope I can assist & help you with yr final destination decision
this hotel is no where nr the main strip of protaros & is some 2.5miles or 10euros or 45min walk away.
The only good thing I can say is that our little boy enjoyed the litter of cats at breakfast time - for which we only had once. We were half board so that was a waste of money- but hey at least I didn’t come down with a bug!
If Thomson have pulled out of this hotel then that’s an indication that they do not want to be associated with such a dive. The hotel even has excellence & most improved certificate posted in the lobby - from 2003. I think that must have been a mistake!!
My advice - avoid this!!. Cyprus & protaros is a lovely place but hotels like these give it a bad reputation. For a great holiday experience book the capo bay hotel in protaros - that is a true 4 star!!!

| said: We have just returned from a long weekend at this hotel which we booked on an all inclusive basis due to taking four children along with us. This hotel has to rank as the worst we have ever stayed at and how on earth some travel sites can advertise this as a 4-star is beyond belief.
Although the hotel occupies a good position and has a full entertainment program particularly for the children, the food and service were little short of appalling. The variety and quality of the food is extremely poor - we avoided breakfast everyday as it was so bad, food in the evening was on more than one occasion reheated leftovers from lunchtime and food was not kept warm. If there was a trade description act operating properly in Cyprus this hotel would be fined all the time as the meals advertised (carvery night etc) had no correspondence whatsoever to the food offered.
Complaining to the staff will have little if any effect and if you can find the hotel manager it will be a miracle as he/she seems to disappear whenever anyone has a complaint. The rest of the staff just wring their hands but don't try and resolve the problems.
Given that the "chef" walks around the buffet bar flicking bits of food which have dropped on the counter back into the main food warmers and the children’s ice-cream fridges were a positive health hazard, the only surprise we had on this holiday was why
half of the guests didn't go down with gastric problems.
I should add that we were by no means the only family complaining and most other guests on the all inclusive deal that we spoke to were finding the same problems.
Having lived here for the past 4 years and having many breaks and holidays on the Island, there are too many good hotels in Cyprus to waste time going to somewhere like the Crown Resorts in Protaras. Don’t be tempted by the all inclusive price, even if you have to spend a little more it will be worth the few pounds extra to find somewhere better.
Our advice is if you are thinking of booking in at this place don't - but if you have already done so change your booking to self catering only.

| said: This was our 3rd visit to the Elamaris , our last being 6 yrs ago, the hotel is still pretty much the same as it was then , i don't think they've decorated since!!!!
The hotel is looking very tired, the woodwork was rotting , the masonary was cracked on the balconies and our corridor smelled like cat p***.
The hotel staff were very friendly, the waiters, waitresses and bar staff were very helpful and friendly but the actual cooks/chefs were very ignorant and i made a complaint about one of them when we went down for dinner at 8:45pm and were told that the chicken had finished , bearing in mind that the restaraunt was open until 9:30 i found this unnaceptable , when i remonstrated with the chef he just shrugged and walked off.Following the complaint the waiter ensured that we were given chicken and apologised profusly.
The overall standard of food served was poor, we actually ate out on 5 occaisions which cost a packet, our previous visits to the Hotel have been very enjoyable but this one has really put us off going back , which is a shame because the Hotel could be so much better.
The majority of staff there are not Cypriot now , which may account for the declining standard overall.
With regards to the entertainment , i wasn't impressed, Baz tried his hardest and ensured we had a good time, and he was a really nice bloke as well, but his partner (no name mentioned) was the most self-indulgant person i've ever seen, all she was interested in was herself, there were frequent instructions to children to sit down, which is odd considering it is a superfamily hotel..and to cap it all she actually told all the kids to get out of the pool(at the hottest part of the day, and believe me it was hot)on a couple of occasions so that the adults could play games in and around the pool.
This review no doubt sounds like we had a really bad time , but we didn't we had a great time , unfortunatly most of it was spent outside of the hotel.
We love Cyprus and will return next year if i have my way, but not with Thomson and not to the Elamaris (which is a shame, because we have such fond memories of that hotel from previous years)

| said: Our 11yr old son thought this was 'his best holiday ever'. It was just right for kids of this age, a self contained hotel with swimming pool and pool tables with space for the kids to hang out on their own without going outside the hotel grounds.
The room was good, a separate bedroom then a large living room with kitchen, table and chairs, two good sized single beds and a balcony with table and chairs. Each room had separate air con.
The only problem we had was that the loo seat was wobbly at the start, but the cleaner sent someone up to fix it before we even thought about reporting it.
Cleaning was excellent, not every day, we also had towels replaced 3 times in a week.

| said: This was our 3rd and probably our last time at the Elamaris. The hotel standards have declined considerably.
Hotel rooms are spacious and adequate but are in need of refurbishment. We had the same room as previous years and the bathroom still floods when you run a bath!, despite reporting it every year.
Didn't eat in the restaurant at all this year, as found better eating establishments outside of the Hotel. The staff are mainly Cypriot and Polish, Terry & George at the Bar are fantastic, really make your holiday, some of the other staff leave a lot to be desired.
The entertainment is a bit samey every night some nights better than others, the Thomson staff do try hard, some more than others.
The outside entertainers they bring in can be quite good. The Magic Man Paul Tomas is great. Due to the lack of basic standards (the need for refurb) and having heard that Thomson have dropped this hotel from their Super family Range, probably won't go again, a shame as the hotel is in a great area.

| said: This was our second visit to Protaras, but our first visit to the Ela Maris. The hotel is desperate need of modernasation, but the apartments are quite big and have all you need (cookers have a mind of their own).
We never saw the pool being cleaned and 2 of us got ear infections!
We usually go 5* all inclusive to Turkey but thought we couldn't pass this one up at £1100 for a family of 4.This turned out to be one of the most expensive holidays we have ever been on.Spent a total of £3000 and this was watching what we were spending.A beautiful country but very very expensive (on average a 2 course meal with 1 drink each for a family of 4 cost around £48).
The entertainment in the hotel wasn't up to much but they had themselves only been there for 4 weeks, but it was there if you couldn't be bothered going out AGAIN !They do have outside entertainers come in of which some are really good. The Thomson entertainers do try their best, it's just that it falls apart because some try more than others.
All in all the holiday was OK but wish we had stayed with Turkey (although Cyprus is a much more beautiful country with breathtaking beaches and crystal clear water)

| said: Beware if you do not book through Thompson’s !!!!
Because we had discounted air travel booked the hotel direct and not through Thompson’s this proved disastrous, very unpleasant and unwelcoming experience. Kids were not allowed in to the Kids Club (Thompson’s run) although we were all allowed to the entertainment evening we the adults were treated indifferently and second rate by the Reps and advertised the fact that we were not Thompsons guests, this was the last straw and moved Hotels after the first week, which saved our Holiday (Malama Holiday Village; excellent).
It didn’t help that the hotel website offers all the amenities but doesn’t state that they’re really for Thompson’s guest only, asked the head Rep if we could pay a supplement so the kids could go in the Kids club and was met with an unhelpful can’t do anything about it response. It appeared the head rep was mainly interested in looking after his reputation and trying to get everyone to give him a good report so he could move up into management, he should consider a different career and away from customer services.
Hotel reception staff were Cypriot and naturally friendly and helpful, I believe they were a bit embarrassed by the treatment of the Thompson Reps, the bar staff and waiters were Polish and very friendly and accommodating, they put the British workers to shame.
If you wanted TV, you pay extra and have to have a room in the main hotel, no reception in the wing blocks.
Food: went half board, food more than adequate, they try and mix the cuisine, it does appears some people complain about the food, possibly want what they get at home and would prefer traditional English, you are on Holiday in Cyprus.
Lastly on the entertainment, if Thompson booked, it would be very good for kids, evening adult entertainment a bit Butlinesque but fun, two weeks could be too much. Adam a good entertainer and deserves to go far, Becks whilst full of energy is particularly average.

| said: Have just returned from the Elamaris and have a bit of a mixed review. This is most definitely the place to be for kids despite the fact there is no Karl this year, there are two more than adequate replacement in Adam & Becks. There is so much going on kids will just never get bored. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for adult entertainment. At 10pm, there is supposed to be something geared more towards the parents. One evening we had an ‘adult comedian’ who was quite simply the worst comedian I have seen, not even remotely funny – anyone else that was there will surely testify this! The standard of the rooms, in my opinion, was a little disappointing. There was mould under the wash hand basin taps, the shower curtain looked as if it had been there since 1950 and in all the room was fairly sub-standard. You can rent a TV for 7 CYP a week but the block we were in did not get a signal so that was a non-starter. The sunbed situation is a joke – if you are going during the school holidays you have had it, take your own!! Thomsons have put notices up stating that no sunbeds were to be ‘reserved’ before 9 am and that any towels left on beds for over 45 mins would be removed. This was never enforced and I don’t think they have any intention of ever enforcing it.
The rooms at night are also very noisy so if you have a young family and want to call it a day before midnight, you will be disturbed by noise up until then. There were also quite a lot of teenagers running about until late at night, not causing any trouble I hasten to add but pretty high spirited. The area around the hotel is fairly limited and you are a good 25min walk from Protaras. Personal favourites in Pernera for food were Davidos, Noufaro & last but most definitely not least was the Phoenix Bar up the hill (formerly Spartacus.) The Phoenix is the best place in Pernera for breakfast (and excellent evening meals too.) Hired a car from Doros car hire across the road. We found them fairly expensive (discovered after the event) and also if you do use them, go after 4pm, as the woman at the desk in the earlier part of the day was far from helpful. To summarise the Elamaris, fantastic for kids, loads of activities and entertainment for them but not enough to keep us adults amused.

The maid service was good had clean towels almost every day. The maids came in 5 out of 7 days.
We wanted a sunbed holidays so for us the location was perfect. The beach was a 5 minute walk through the hotel grounds. The beach was clean & the sea was clear & very nice to swim in. Hotel staff were friendly, but the holiday success was made by Carl the entertainments rep. Carl was a "LEGEND" he gave us many a laugh.
The games were great & Supa Splash was a must every day! Carl had so much energy & enthusiasm for his job and holiday punters he gave it his all!

I cannot comment on the food as the restaurants in pernera are superb especially Il Cavallerie,Sizzlers Il Guesto next to Sizzlers and the Stuffed Olive.
There are a couple of drawbacks, the main gripe is the shortage of sunbeds less than one per room is not accaptable and nor is the 7.30 visit needed to claim one.
The rooms need an update but the aircon is free and a godsend, one last thing if you want to sleep before midnight ask for a room in the reception block preferably facing the sea, it didnt bother us as we were adding to the decibel limit but those with toddlers may want some kip.
Dont get me wrong we enjoyed our hols especially our 7 yr old but the hotel is not perfect.

| said: Just back from a fantastic holiday at the Elamaris. I had been there previously with a friend 2 years ago.
The rooms are nice and spacious although could do with a bit of a sparkler, the air con is free which is excellent.
We had a problem with our shower on the first day, phoned reception and 5 minutes later a man came up to fix it, very polite and efficient.
The pool is nice, although I should imagine in peak weeks there may be a struggle for a sun lounger, and although we were couples in a Super Family Resort we enjoyed the entertainment around the pool area. Water aerobics were good, scouse in the house is very funny and the quizzes were a good laugh also, it was good because there are large breaks in between all the entertainment so it does not become too annoying.
Paragliding is much cheaper here than in Protaras and Ayia Napa water park is a must, clean, reasonable and good fun.

Couldn't have been given a better choice. The Kidzone was absolutely brilliant for our 5 year old (at least 4 hrs a day if required) and our 11 year old was kept occupied by the daily waterpolo, waterbasketball, football, killer pool, darts, skittles, table tennis. This left us time to sunbathe, relax and do the daily quiz. All the reps are very committed and an asset, not 'in your face' at all. 'Scouse in the House' Chrissie & Bonzo - you helped make a wonderful holiday even better. Cheers guys!! We'll definitely be back. Food & drink was expensive in the hotel but loads of places nearby.

There are loads of excellent places to eat within minutes of the hotel and the Knights Pub across from the hotel was superb with a good kids menu. The best breakfast was to be had at The Nautilus Bar which served all day so you can have an English breakfast at lunch if preferred. The only criticism I had was that bar prices were very high - £1.90 for a pint of lager (about £2.10 English money) and a can of Tango from the snack bar cost an incredible £1.50 (about £1.65 English). The supermarket next door though was very well stocked and you are as well buying soft drinks there. The beach is two minutes away and we will definitely be coming back again. There is not really enough going on for kids over sixteen and I would think staying in Protaras better for them.

for a self catering holiday. The reps cant do enough for you but they are not in your face all the time.
Elamaris is right in the middle of the village with
resturants and bars all around. We go selfcatering but we never eat in because the food is so good in the
resturants. This is our third visit to the Elamaris,
you feel at home as soon as you arrive, cant wait to
be back there in August. It isnt a place for families
with teenage children maybe not enough for them to do, but with smaller ones you cant go wrong.

| said: just got back from the Elamaris. Best holiday we've ever had! Our 5 year old son had a fantastic time in the kids club ( 2 hours morning and evening). You can never get bored here with loads going on and rep's entertainment is first class - scouser chrissy and bonzo should be given a medal for their committment and entertainment. Apartments are pretty basic but clean, air conditioned (v. important in Cyprus) and quiet. restaurants around hotel are excellent and we did not have 1 bad meal. Knights Pub across the road we found the best for good food and value. Livlier nightlife in Protaras (50 cents on bus - 10 mins away). Waterpark in Ayia Napa best one we've ever been to. All round excellent holiday and we would definitely go again

| said: i stayed at the elamaris hotel for two weeks and though it was great, the hotel rooms were despicably clean and the staff were very willingly to help you. The entertainment at the hotel was ok but we wasnt rerally bothered as were outside of the hotel all day, the hotels location was brilliant giving easy access to everywhere including the local beach Pernera (water sports food etc, but anywhere else the cheap rate of 50p could be payed to get there, over all I think the location(holiday) was great and knowing that you were going back to a safe/clean hotel was a bonus.

| said: I stayed in this hotel in 2000 having booked a studio for single use at a minimal supplement through Direct Holidays. The hotel is spacious clean and comfortable and the staff are friendly and helpful. I had a wonderful holiday and could not wait to return. In 2001 thompson had an exclusive on this hotel and a friend and I booked a one bedroom apartment at a supplement of £250! The hotel was as good as it remembered it but the holiday was completely ruined by the "in your face" reps. From 10 in the morning to 11 at night we were bombarded by loud music, enforced joviality and irritating pleadings to take part in quizzes, play football, darts and god knows what else. You weren't ven safe on your sun lounger as they trawled the terraces looking for "volunteers". We appreciate that this is a Thompson Super Family Hotel but this was over the top. It might be good for the kids but when it comes to providing relaxing holidays for adults Thompson have got no idea!

| said: I visited these apartments last year with my daughter on a single parent deal...great value for money....we had a great time here, id paid for a studio but got a 1-bed apt so lots of space. Rooms were clean and tidy with basic cooking equipment.
The resort itself was quiet as i went in may but with a bus stop and taxi rank outside the hotel you can get to most places easily. I enjoyed it that much were going back there this year.
This is a great family hotel and as i work in the travel industry i have recommended this to a number of customers who have had a great time as well and have been very happy. Keep it up.
