| said: For the first week there 13 of us [3 were only there for a week] and although we were not altogether once you got used to the layout it was easy to go to each other's apartments.
We were all inclusive and just for the kids ice-creams and juice it was worth it.By the second week though the food seemed to go downhill so we ate out a couple of nights. The 1 thing we were not happy about was the choice of snacks available [burgers, toasties, hotdog or chips and if you did not want to eat in the dining room you have to wait until 3 o'clock for a snack as the snack bar shuts between 12.30 and 3pm].
We found the all the staff to be friendly especially the kids entertainers.[ The hotel was not very busy but the staff encouraged all the children to take part].For us we found the night entertainment ok.
We would stay at this hotel again.

| said: had a fantastic stay at this hotel and would definetly go again
rooms were cleaned 6 of 7 days there were no cockroaches or other horrible creatures lurking around
food was very nice with 3 themed nights throughout the week only complaint was having to wait 15 mins on the toast for breakfast
hotel is a 5 mins walk up to europa center and a good walk down to the comercial center taxis were cheap so always got taxi back up the hill
staff were excellent especially at the poolside bar my 2 year old son took a shine to one of the barmen and followed him behind the bar to help which they didnt mind at all and gave him free ice lollys
the room was extremly spacious with a huge balcony which overlooked the beach very child friendly place
the pool was very clean not very hot but i have been in colder pools than this whilst in gran canaria
didnt really spend much time in the hotel in the evening only 1 night but entertainment seemed to be ok on that one night
i would definetly recommend this hotel to everyone and i will hopefully be going back there again soon

| said: I was very dissapointed with this hotel, our room was in the dungeons, with a slight sea view in between two buildings.
The room was very shabby with torn curtains and plug points hanging from the walls.
The staff were very rude and although we complained nothing was ever done.
We were staying on an all inclusive basis but didn't eat after the first day, as the food was repititious and unappetising.
We tried to eat a burger at the pool bar but found it inedible, they use different burgers for the all in guests, the paying guests get the edible burgers.
Although it says in the brochure that you can have snacks from the pool bar, in actual fact you are only allowed 4 items of food from the extensive menu, these are burgers, chips cheese and ham sandwich and cheeseburgers.
The worst thing about this hotel was the staff and drinks in the bar, if you are an all in guest you will not get served until all the paying guests are served and then your drink will come in a plastic glass.
The wine comes out of cartons, you are not allowed cocktails and the irish coffees come in different sizes, large for paying guests and small for all in guests.
The bar staff snigger amongst themselves, they have no respect for the guests but are not reprimanded about their behaviour.
The entertainment in the hotel is very poor and most people tend to go elsewhere on an evening.
The swimming pool which was supposed to be heated was freezing and when I complained was told that it was heated to their climate.
All in all this hotel is the worst I have ever stayed in and totally spoilt my holiday and my Christmas.

| said: I have just returned from a week all inclusive from this hotel and i must say it wasnt as bad as i first thought it would be.
I travelled with my boyfriend and another couple. When we arrived at the hotel we were room number 1208 and they were 4213. No where near each other!! We asked to be closer and they moved out friends to room 1207. Perfect!!
Room: They are HUGE!! We paid to be all inclusive so normally only get a bathroom and bedroom. We got a kitchenette, lounge, massive balcony, bedroom and bathroom. The rooms were very clean and not a sign of a cockroach. People in previous reviews moaned about towels not getting changed everyday, well if they change their towles everyday at home then they need to get a life. Every other day is fine.
Pool: Absolutley loved it. Always spare sun beds and weather was fab. They played music which was nice and had activities going on like water aerobics and waterpolo.
Food: Not very nice at all im afraid. We ate out most of the time. Chips were always on the menu and they looked like the only cooked things there. Even the sweetcorn was frozen!!
Entertainment: Well what entertainment? There wasnt any. Luckily we went there for a bit of a lash up holiday so we werent interested in it but the kids must of been bored. They did play bingo 1 night and had a parrott show another night.
All in all i think if you want to loose some weight then go to the hotel as you wont eat anything and be swimming all day in the lovely pool. It really is a 50/50 hotel. I will be returning to Puerto Rico but not Puerto Azul.

| said: We arrived during the night and chose to take a taxi to the hotel, rather than wait for the coach. On arrival the reception staff were quite helpful, giving clear directions to the room.
However, 2 children, 2 adults and 4 suitcases later, we had to run the gaunlet of cups, glasses, food waste and overflowing bins at 5am.
The first day began with all four of us sat on chairs by the bar, as at 9am not one single sunbad was left!
The following 6 days resulted in my husband having to set an alarm clock to keep a sunbed!! At 7.45am there were no more than 4 beds left!! We chatted to many other guests who had been up at 6am!! Just to keep a parasol!!
As we were all inclusive we thought we had paid for most of the food and drink..however, 5 nights having to eat out as the food was so awful is not our idea of all inclusive!! The staff in the restuarant were very pleasant and friendly, just the food which was awful.
There was no day entertainment apart from football or volleyball and this was age exclusive, so my 5 year old could not join in. There was no day time activities for small children apart from colouring!
Our final day resulted in our suitcases being damaged in the luggage room. The once friendly (ish) reception staff just shrugged their shoulders and said "So what". Great customer service. Not.
We will not be visiting this hotel again.

The cleaner came most days, didnt see one cockroach!! everthing was perfect, nice spacious balacony and could want for anything!!
The room has two single beds and a sofa so if taking 2 children you will need to ask for another bed at reception, we waiting for 2 mins whilst another bed arrived!
I thought this hotel was great, the chemist was only a five minite walk away (up the hill) and a taxi will cost 3 euros to the centre!! Or you can take the steps !!
Don't try doing the steps back up, we tried and vowed never again!! 700 steps I think is it!! Great restaurant called El Torro in the centre!! Spot on!!

The rooms in the hotel were very clean and are done by a maid 5 out of 7 days we were there.
Azul is 3/4 the way to the top of Puerto Rico so its a fair trek down into the centre, but taxi's are very cheap(approx 3euro) and regular.
The food at the poolside bar was very good and quickly served, reasonable in price as well, the staff also excellent.
Entertainment sadly lacked the lass who done it Chrissie was very whole hearted and done wonders with what she had. Which was very little.

We thought the hotel had went down to a 1 star rather than 4 star, I knew the hotel had changed hands not for the better but for the worst.
The service was terrible at the poolside bar, food a lot to be desired. When you pay a lot of money you expect something better but it was not to be.
I don't think I will be back there and won't recommend it to anybody either.

I think it is good for children aged 5 to 11 it has good size pools a football pitch with organised games underground cool kids club. games room with pool etc cheap kids snacks, internet, evening entertainment .
this hotel also seemed to have a few groups of lads and lasses as weel as familys and couples.
europer centre is 5mins walk commercial centre 2mins taxi ride down hill

| said: The Puerto Azul apartments were excellent, they were kept clean and tidy, with a maid service 5 days a week.
We went self catering and only sampled the food from the snack bar around the pool, and the cafeteria inside, and on the whole it was good.
The hotel staff were excellent, very helpful and always polite. The food and drink are very reasonable, with a pint of local beer,(tropical) costing 2 euros, but with a happy hour twice a day you get 2 pints for the price of 1.The pool area was never crowded, and you never struggle to get a sunbed, but we understand that the hotel has been taken over and are going through some changes.
The only downfall was the evening entertainment which has a mini disco for kids and then mainly a karaoke.Although James and Marie-Claire do their best it was hard for them when the hotel will not pay for cabaret acts because the hotel is not full, so in effect not many people stay in the hotel in the evening.
The hotel is situated on a steep hill and can be a trek down to the bottom, although the taxi,s are very cheap about 2-3 euros and you never have to wait long.

| said: Stayed at the Purto Azul over the New Year period and I have to say it was enjoyable.
We arrived at 8.30 in the evening and was greeted by a receptionist who was less than helpfull which I thought great, if this is how the holiday is going to start then I want to go home!
An elderly couple felt sorry for us and directed us in the right direction to the room which on arrival was clean but had very poor decor (definately needs a pot of paint on the walls) the hotel staff overall were great especially the poolside bar where they couldn't do enough for you. The food at the poolside was good quality for a fair price and the rooms were cleaned everyday except for Thursday and they even cleaned the dishes for you.
One complaint we had was there wasn't enough bedding. The evening got very cold and my poor husband and son drew the short straw and slept in the dining room/kitchen area on a sofa bed and only had a sheet and blanket - definately not enough to keep you warm.
I don't think we would come back to this hotel as I think it was abit on the basic side but it depends on what you want from your holiday.
The walk to the beach took alittle time (all downhill) but if you are able and fairly fit it is well worth doing (get a taxi back to the hotel for around 2.50 euros)

Accommodation was the pits, very dirty, old and tired fixtures and fittings, at one point we had blood up the back of bathroom door. Also a very noisy hotel but not from entertainers but the actual residents. If you could move the staff to another hotel it would be ideal.
Pigeon muck all over balcony and inside bar. I would not recommend this accommodation to anyone.
We have stayed in the Altamar before and will be staying there again

| said: Stayed at Puerto Azul for the first time in Nov'04 and would definitely return. Rooms are basic but freshly decorated and spotlessly clean. Ours had new appliances fitted, ie fridge, kettle, toaster and microwave.
Food at pool bar is good and reasonably priced, as are the drinks, with happy hour at 4.30 pm daily.
The staff are all very friendly and James does an excellent job looking after the entertainment.
Situated at the top of the resort it is 650 steps up from ground level to Puerto Azul, but taxis are inexpensive at about 2.50 euro, for those not fancying the walk. The Europa Centre with shops, bars and restaurants is only 5 mins walk away.
Would definitely recommend this accommodation to anyone considering visiting Puerto Rico.

| said: I stayed in the Puerto Azul apartments in October of last year. I travelled with my father.
Whenever we arrived at the hotel, we could not believe how big it was! We even had trouble finding our room!
The cleanliness of the the hotel is up to very good standards.
The location is only a taxi fare away from the centre, which was handy, and the view from the hotel outlooking Puerto Rico was just stunning.
The staff are extremely helpful and very friendly.
The entertainment varies. There are animal shows for the kids(and adults too!) and there are performing acts for the adults. The entertainment is suitable for all ages.
Overall, I found Puerto Azul to be an amazing hotel, and I would definitely go there again. This hotel also helped this holiday be the best holiday ever! I recommend this hotel to everyone who will be visiting Puerto Rico.

The maids cleaned the room 5 times and even did the washing up if we had any to do. The room was spotless and the kitchen area was new with a brand new fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster and the apartment was very spacious. We were also lucky in that the apartment overlooked the sea.
The hotel staff were friendly and helpful.
The entertainment was excellent especially for children and I would like to say that James and Mark gave the hotel an excellent atmosphere.
The bar food was great value for money and all the staff very friendly especially with the children.
The only downside is the pigeons and we didn't see one single cockroach.
I would definitely recommend the Puerto Azul to anyone and would definitely like to return 2005.

| said: Well good and bad I suppose. Went on an allocated on arrival 4 night deal and as it was only an extra £20 made the mistake of going half board. It's not the food was bad it was OK but just the same.
I ended up in one of the studios in block 4000. It was clean (no cockroaches seen anywhere) but it felt shabby, a broken radio on the wall and cracked toilet. A new TV on a table that had seen better days. They had painted blue over the wooden furniture surfaces and over time the white was reappearing were worn. Enough Storage/hangers for One for 5 days but would stuggle for 2 for a week. While you get a partial sea front you just kept noticing the top and rear of the nearby hotel in front.
I walked to find that hotel stunning from the front it was as if built into the rocks, shame they could not have made it more interesting to look at from the back. The (free)large new fridge was a nice touch in the room however.
Had this been for a week I would have felt cheated out of a better view and facilites for self catering in the better blocks than for paying extra for half board and a single supplement. Now I might have been allocated another place had I gone for a week or even self catering but I didn't think the room was of a 3* standard. While I got a cheap deal I had paid extra for what I thought would be a higher standard.
The Hotel was good overall, staff friendly and cheeful and this does mean you feel at home here.
They had plenty of sunbeds but no mats. It was half term but the hotel was quiet.
Entertainment, great for kids - I did find the Hypnotist worth watching - but went out to the Commercial centres in the evening. Local beer only 2 euros in the hotel and most bars in Europa Centre cheap compared to other places.
First day it rained, but soon cleared up so I just went down the beaches (I counted 572 steps) nice warm sun for the other 3 days and thats all I went for, a total chill out weekend and I was sad to leave. Would go back but not half board not just for a better room, but there are plenty of good cheap places to eat out and the choice becomes unlimited.
As for location it is away fron the centres and noise yet cheap for plenty of Taxi's and still walkable to beaches and Europa centre. You have a great view from the top of the hill. However I had to give poor marks for the location of the block 4000 I was in, bit unfair as I suppose there is not much you can do if someone puts a new hotel in the way, but there are lots of other 2* and 3* where this is not a problem.
I stayed at the Altamar and looking across to it would have preferred to have been there.
By the way the flights (East Midlands) on both ways left 20 mins EARLY outbound (plane half full) and 10 mins EARLY inbound (plane full) and both arrived early at the destination. Also the luggage seemed to be out in no time.
However the check in at Gran Canaria was slow, going through security just as slow and while I don't like sitting in the airport I seemed to be standing for well over an hour, felt sorry for people with kids getting restless and only had 5-10 mins for a drink before getting last boarding call. At East Mids check in and security done within 20 mins, so there must be a better way than dumping several coaches at the same time.
Overall, had a good break, however while allocated on arrival deals are OK I am one of the growing band of people that can, and have done better DIY.

The Hotel in general was very clean and well maintained, the few odd pigeons were annoying.
The pool area is pleasant and suits all ages, which is watched over by a lifeguard for piece of mind.
Evening entertainment was excellent, with entertainment for all ages, although the entertainment can start quite late and can be annoyingly noisy in the early hours of the morning!
The main problems that we had were with Airtours and Mytravel, the flights were very unpleasant, and delayed for several hours, there and back. The Reps were unpleasant and not very helpful.
Hotel overall, brilliant, Tour Operator rubbish.

Hotel staff where very very friendly and extremely helpful. very pleasant......hello jesus and jonny.
Entertainment was great in the hotel what we saw of it. we tended to venture out of the hotel of an evening , but the kids entertainers were brilliant.

There were fans provided but were on a timer, which meant you were woken up by the heat and had to reset the fan timer.Food was very good in hotel and outside, we did not have one bad meal reasonably priced too.
All the staff were very friendly, always acknowledged you.Entertainment was good had some good entertainers. We were never bored like some other holidays we have had. The swimming pools were lovely and clean, very inviting and lovely to cool down in.
We did not find location a problem. We enjoyed the stroll down to the centre as the scenery was gorgeous. We sometimes walked back to hotel along the pathed roadside and we also used the taxis which were plentiful and cheap.
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and after showing our holiday snaps and much talking, more of my family are going next year.We cant wait and well done to everyone at the PORTO AZUL!!!!!!!!!!
for making our holiday GREAT. Thank you

The accommodation was reasonably priced and our room was spotless and very well equiped for cooking if we so wanted, although there were so many good restaurants in Peurto Rico this was a bit of a rarity!
The staff were friendly and helpful and the evening entertainment that I saw was brilliant or at least as good as you would expect on this kind of fun holiday!
The hotel may be 600 steps down from the centre but it is an easy walk down and a cheap taxi ride back if you cant walk back and the views are absolutley spectacular, whether it is sea or Puero Rico view.
My only disappointment was that the mini golf seemed a bit dilapidated.
PS would well recommend the 'All you can Eat'Chinese buffet for 4.80 euros in the Shopping Center!(Last on the left!)
Thank you Puerto Azul for a wonderful holiday!!

The reception was really good if you had any problems they sorted things out quickly.
There were a few pigeons around which I was shocked at, not many cockroaches though.
I would go back tomorrow if I had the chance !!!

Had to use 3 elevators to get to our room we lasted only the one week and returned home early.
We will never again stay in this hotel as it's the pits.

| said: Stayed in the resort for 10 days and each day dragged!!!!
Hotel was at the top of a mountain, out of reach to any civilization!!! Walked at least 15 minutes to our room with two heavy cases, were not assisted whatsoever!
Got into our room. No air conditioning and our sea view with balcony was far behind the other hotel that obstructed our view! We complained to reception and he said, for your company and price, that’s all we offer!!! So we begged for at least a fan and he said "First come, first serve. We haven't got any left!"
The hotel was a complete sham. Food was the same and we were unable to identify what some dishes were. Rolls from breakfast that were not eaten, were served again at dinner as evident by the bullet like appearance!
Other customers were vile. One in particular got on stage with no top and proceeded to swear down the mike at Karaoke!!!
If you want culture and luxury, DO NOT go to this resort...
If you like to hear and watch football around the pool, while you tuck into your Sunday roast in the sunshine and read the Daily Star while proceeding to assist your child to urinate in the pool showers then book up quick!!!
I'm a holiday rep this year, but thank god will be based in Greece! There’s no way I'd allow myself to work or allow my guests to stay in such destruction!!!

| said: We have just returned from the Puerto Azul Apartments. The rooms were spacious and clean. We averaged on one cockroach a day - it seemed the lower the floor - the more you got. Did not spoil our holiday or the opinion of the hard working staff. Over the two weeks, every member of staff were polite and very helpful. The location of the hotel is perfect. The views are stunning - much better than staying at the bottom of the hill. The entertainment suited our two six year old girls. Mini disco, bingo and a show. The pool area is excellent - even has a life guard and again the view is wonderful.

The staff made the holiday. The barmen were so polite and friendly.

The location itself wasn't the best but it was a cheap taxi away from the aqua park and night life etc.
The pool area was suited for all types, however there were insufficient beds for the amount of residents staying at the hotel. If you dont mind getting up at 7am to place your towel down, you'll be fine.
An all round good and enjoyable holiday, a bit of walking wont hurt anyone!

| said: The hotel was excellent. Really big so struggled to find my apartment when I first arrived, but got used to this.
Room basic but clean. A few cockroaches but not a problem.
Man that works nights on reception is great fun - even though he works nights he was still always smiling.
Nice to see security guards and a lifeguard.
Bar staff great, especially Danny and Jorge - lush!
Airtours reps really friendly - always said hello and even came to chat to us at the pool bar a couple of times. Really helpful in their local knowledge.
The two entertainers really do provide the entertainment, day and night. Was pleased that even though there was a lot to include the children, it was still entertaining for me and my friend who are 23.

Instead of walking 656 steps down to the main Puerto Rico beach, just jump a taxi for 2 euros to Amadores beach - it's well worth the trip! The downfall is that the taxi drivers can be crazy and drive 100 mph on windy roads!
The resort itself was very clean but the rooms were very small. The entertainment was good but as a family with young children, we found it started too late. We would recommend it if you have older children or none at all!

We arrived in the middle of the night following a trail of blood and to greet us at reception was a girl in tears because a bloke had smashed her window and stolen her stuff!! (blood accounted for!)
But from there on out it was a nice holiday. 10 days were too much cos after eating out in the commercial center 4 nights you realise the chef runs from one to another preparing the same meal!!
The entertainment was ok, bit slow and only one person on his own trying to do the job of the (bless him).

| said: I visited Puerto Azul in June for my first time with a friend.
Was a bit dubious when I saw the landscape along the route from the airport but once I got into Puerto Rico I was amazed.
It is sooo picturesque with the buildings built into the cliffs and I thought the resort was stunning.
The hotel was spotless at all times and the staff were really helpful, especially when my glasses broke on arrival. The only annoyinng thing was not being told about the deposit for the room but then again they have to make up for losses from apartments somehow. Cleaning of apartments was brill with even the washing up being done by our lovely cleaner except on the two days cleaners have off on wednesday or sunday. Did have to take three lifts to our apartment but there was no problems woth that as they were in good working order.
Food in the pool bar was cheap but cheerful and the nightly entertainment wasn't fantastic, it would have been good for the kids though.
I think I only saw two cockroaches alive, in the fortnight within the apartment blocks.
What a fab time, definately will be back!!

| said: We've recently returned (June 04) from a week long break at the Azul, this time on a self catering basis. This is the second time we have stayed at the hotel, the first (sept 03)being on a Half Board basis.
The first time, was in block 2 overlooking puerto rico and the commercial centre. The view was fantastic looking directly down to the beach and harbour. It was lovely to sit of an evening on the balcony and watch the sun go down and the taxi's bustling aroung the centre.
The second time was in block 5 which looked directly out to sea, and along the promenade to Amadores Beach.
On both occassions the apartments were clean and tidy, and whilst bordering on basic, what more do you expect for £200 each. We would certainly return again, and to the same hotel. (no floods and no cockroaches to speak of)
We did by choice, opt for self catering basis on our second visit, having already sampled the Azul's attempt at catering, which can only be described as 'run of the mill'. Ok if you liked chicken and chips, pork and chips, turkey and chips. need I go on? The structured time slots for breakfast and dinner didn't really fit with our idea of a relaxing holiday, but ideal if you have children.
The bar has a happy hour between 5 and 6 pm when it's time to fill your boots. (I say this because it's not the cheapest place i've been at around 3 Euros a pint!!!)
The entertainment was by all accounts aimed at children and the mentally challenged. Though im sure after sufficient alcohol it seemed fun. Needless to say we found a quiet bar called 'HAWAII' at the small marina, with a lovely restaurant next door which we ended up at most evenings until around 2am.
The resort itself is lovely with a choice of two beaches. The first Puerto Rico, immediately to the bottom of 600 steps or a taxi ride away (2.5 euros). We did walk the steps every day which were no trouble as long as you aren't lazy. Then got a taxi back.... mainly due to the fact Euro 2004 was on and we were rushing to catch the start of a match.
Around the bay, which is a fifteen minute walk (mainly flat) at the bottom of the steps, was Amadores beach which is smaller and mainly used by the Spanish (especially at weekends). We did opt for this beach due to its choice of restaurants etc. (the taxi ride home was still only 2.5 Euros). On both beaches expect to pay 7.5 Euros a day for two beds and a parasol.
We will definitely return to the Azul, though have just booked to go to Lanzarote in October 2004 (it's a big world out there).
Don't be put off by other peoples comments.... it's certainly worthy of a 3 star rating, and we have had two fantastic holidays.

Although you had to travel by taxi if you were not enthusiastic about walking, this was the price to pay for such a beautiful view. The staff were friendly and the cleaning staff were of the best quality I have ever encountered.
I was not too happy about a broken safe deposit box which was reported and not repaired, however a full refund was paid.
The hotel food was lovely and of a very reasonable price. The evening entertainment was good for children mostly. We were all impressed by our hotel room and the pool was really nice too.
All in all, a wonderful place to stay. I will be returning and recommending this hotel to friends and family.

The entertainment was not very good, and they could do with more comedy and not to much singing as you get boared of it. The hotel is quiet at night while sleeping, although we didnt get in every morning until 4:30am!!! The staff were very helful as we had a broken window and they fixed it just after it had happened. Over all i give this hotel 9/10 and cant wait 2 go back there next year.

| said: The Hotel is in need of a massive refurbishment programme. The sheets and bed linen look old, worn and threadbare, and the rooms furnishings and fitments need overhaiuling or binning!! The food in the Restaurant was repetitive and unpalatable. We have been to this Hotel 10 years ago (before Airtours took control) and it was a different place then, to what it is now!!Hotel Staff did there best, but there were just too few of them to cope!! The entertainment was typical - bingo, karaoke, quizzes, and the usual hypnotists and sing alikes. The Pool Bar/Restaurant is used by the local pigeon population, as are the sunloungers and pool itself. Half Board guests are downgraded from spacious apartments to small cramped studios, (by Airtours, not the Hotel) - so be aware what to expect!! Cleaning standards were not good-towels remained unchanged. The Courtesy Room for departing guests is dire - just 6 curtained showers each for men and women, and a very wet floored communal changing area.

| said: Stayed here on Half Board, and couldn't eat the food, we ate out most days!! The Hotel is not well maintained or cleaned properly. Rooms are tatty, worn and poorly furnished. The whole place needs painting. There are few maids, and the cleanliness reflects this!! The Hotel location is almost at the top of a massive hill, with hundreds(approx 500)of steps down to the beach. Have to use taxis or public transport to get around. The Hotel is very short staffed. The Bar at night has about 3 waiters, and they have to serve the ice cream and kebabs, as well as wait tables. The Reception Staff were most helpful and polite at all times. The cleaners have 2 days off, and on these days, the pool area doesn't get cleaned. There are a lot of wild pigeons here at this Hotel, and they are in both Public areas and on the balconies. The entertainment was focused on families and children, with the children's entertainment going on until 9.30 - 10.00pm and while the adult entertainment was on, the kids palyed football round the pool bar - nice!! The entertainment was nothing special unless you like nightly Bingo!! We went for a cheap break, and that's exactly what we got - cheap and nasty. I would not go back to this Hotel and would not recommend it to others either.

| said: This was only our 2nd holiday ever and it was so good that i am now officially a holiday junky!! We stayed at the Puerto Azul, with another family of four, for one week and it definately wasn't long enough. On arrival there was a bit of a mix up over rooms as we were supposed to have had them next to each other but they were at different ends of the hotel. However, the excellent staff at reception did manage to get our rooms next to each other after half hour of waiting (we didn't mind as we were having a nose around).
Our rooms were very basic but very clean. The food at the hotel was good (apart from the breakfast) and was quite resonable. I am a very fit person so didnt mind all the steps but my husband found them a bit much. The hotel was in an excellent location (3 min taxi ride down to beach and 2 min taxi ride up the road to an excellent crazy golf pitch and shops).
You couldt ask for better staff, they went out of their way to please you and did all they could to help. The entertainment was brill, hypnotist, singers, kids disco and a bloke came with snakes and crocs! The kids loved it all! We would definately come back but would have to stay for much longer.

The reps and reception staff were helpfull . The entertainment was ok abit family based but generally ok . The only prob is the situation of the hotel it is abit out of the way of the beach and of the night life so u constantly have to rely on crazy taxis drivers. Did have a supereb holiday here and would def return. when booking i would ask for a lower level room as u tend to get a bit put out the way and takes a good few days to find ya room . have a good one

Hotel location is withing easy reach of Europa center, and only a taxi ride costinh approx 3 euros to main shopping center.Hotel is clean and theres maid service everyday except sundays. Hotel reception staff very friendly some of the bar staff could be a bit friendler, but no real problems with anyone.
Pool bar is very good for lunch and prices not too expensive. We never go half board so cannot comment on resturant.

The food was really nice there was plenty to choose from for adults the kids choice was'nt that good though. The waiters were not very good with their English but they tried they were always really friendly.
The staff at reception were very nice and helpful. The entertainment is great I would recommend any family to come here.
The pools are really clean and there is a life guard there at all times. The apartments are really clean but they have big gaps under the door which was handy for the cockroaches which we did have a lot of every night. We lived with it because they live there.
The hotel its self is really good just too far away especially when you have children as it is at the top of a really steep hill taxi's are needed at night when kids are tired.

| said: i think it all depends on where your room is situated in this place. I was in block 1 on the 4th floor(2 lifts & some stairs to get to) the view from our balcony was a load of bushes planted in the roof of the rooms below, with a dirt path at the side which could be accessed by anyone(even those outside of the hotel).Walking to your room at night didn't feel too safe(even though there are security guards). While many people in the hotel say they didn't see any cockroaches in their rooms we were infested. They were crawling out of gaps in the wall in our rooms and from behind the fridge.not nice. There were also millions of spiders too, although compared to the cockroaches these didn't bother us too much. Our bathroom floor was always flooded. No matter how carfull you were in the shower wtih the curtain, the floor would still be deep with water(think it was coming out the bottom of the bath. When we needed a guy to come open our bedroom door we'd accidently locked ourselves out of he just blamed the water on us.The hotel itself was nice but not really anything special. We went early september and entertainment was not too good. Also being situated at the top of a mountain wasnt too nice. Although taxis are cheep, a fortnights worth soon adds up.Although you could walk the stairs at night they were quite creepy. The shopping centres were ok, just the same as all resorts - you've been in one you've been in them all.The beach too was quite nice, although if you go a 15 min walk round the coast you'll find Amadores beach which is much nicer. All in all an ok holiday, wouldn't go back though as resort wasn't really up to much.

After moving from a dull and smelly block 6 to a fresher and brighter block3 (at a cost of 25 Euros) we thoroughly enjoyed the rest of our 7 days holiday.
We found the room well equipped with modern appliances (electric kettle, toaster and a microwave)
From our room 3003 we had to travel up in 4 lifts (a total of 13 floors) to get to the Reception area and then have to walk down 680 steps to get to the beach , not a problem if you like walking, if you don`t there`s a frequent bus service to take you down for 80 Eurocents each.
Puerto Rico town itself simply bustles at night. plenty of bars- Restaurants etc.
We certainly would like to return there someday. Bi

Nothing was different here, I dont think we were in the best block with the best facilities but for the cheap deal we got there wasn't much room to complain - until our friends, who we met at the apartments, who stayed for two weeks paid less than us had a fab view and a kettle! Anyway moving on, rooms were clean balcony spacious!
We were half board so there was a good variety both at breakfast and evening meal! Even bar snacks were nice and reasonably priced! My partner and I treated this as a second holiday to escape the pressures of work!
We got a great deal had a wonderful time and if you want a cheap week away with everything (apart from the beach) within close walking distance then this will be great for you!
Great for couples, families and singles!

| said: Just returned from this Hotel. Was in block 4 - nice view of the cranes! Think it was bad of Airtours to notify me 5 days before I went, as the size of the building works means it has been being constructed for a considerable number of months.
Apart from that the Hotel was great, the staff were great, the cleanliness throughout was outstanding, the only other thing - why so many bloody steps to the beach (700 of them!!!) No wonder they have sets of scales ever so often on the way down, a great way to lose weight!!
Would definitely go there again.

| said: Wonderful hotel. Loved every minute. A bit of a difficult situation but then every hotel on the island is the same.
Entertainment fantastic and so were the staff. The bar staff were lovely to my little girl. Rooms were great. Maids cleaned all the time. Even washed up.
Can't wait to go back.

| said: I have stayed at this Aparthotel twice now and wouldn't hesitate to go back, the pool area is fantastic for both kids and adults.
The entertainment team are very good and you are never bored.
The apartments were very clean and the staff very friendly.
The person who said that they wouldn't go here again even if it is free - Must be MAD !! But lets face it all some people go on holiday for is to complain....it's a known fact.

| said: Had a great time at the puerto azul during the month of july.We had a great view from block 1 but i know block 4 looked more like a building site than a hotel.
Entertainment was good, and pool activities for all ages likewise.
Thinkin of returning nxt year as long aswe get block 1/2.
Highly recommended.

| said: Stayed for 2 wks in Aug 2000
on arrival had to wait 3hrs before being booked in & apartment still wasn't clean. Apartment flooded on numerous occasions, water coming through the ceiling. asked many times to be moved to a different apt but none available, asked to be moved to different complex Airtours staff didn't want to know. Beds only changed 1 in 1st wk, when I went to reception to ask for beds to be changed there was a family in front of me holding there used bed sheets waiting to get them changed themselves. Requested sea view apt near the pool area when booking, apt was almost the furthest away from the pool & all we could see from our balcony were trees to the front & steps from the town to the left. A couple of evenings there were local teenagers drinking on the steps & on 4 occasions I saw couples having sex on the steps (luckily my daughter didn't see them). entertainment in the evenings was rubbish.
Two good points Kids club & Kids club staff brilliant.
the pool bar was clean & food was OK.
WILL NEVER STAY IN PUERTO AZUL AGAIN, EVEN IF IT WAS FREE.

The local Europa centre is easy to get to and get around, its is full of amusments for kids and some of for the adults. I would easyly go when ever i could because the staff is brill and the hotel is extreamly clean and the food, well i have neather tasted anything like it!!!

| said: Had a large spacious apartment with all kitchen equipment needed - toaster, kettle, microwave etc. - huge balcony overlooking Gloria Palace hotel which was then under construction but now complete and the sea beyond that. Our front door opened literally onto the pool which was fabulous. Regular cleaning and sheet/towel changes and the maids even washed our dishes! Saw a couple of roaches over the fortnight but definitely no infestations - hey, they live there, it's their country ! Excellent pool area and lots of sunbeds but the usual "be up early" if you want a specific spot. Pool bar served good quality and good value food and the entertainment at night was ok although we went up to the Europa Centre most nights which has plenty of eating places and more than enough entertainment.
