| said: We were so looking forward to staying at this hotel, after booking it 10 months ago, yet we were VERY DISAPPOINTED.
After checking in, we went up to our allocated room, On entering our room, it was very clear that attention to detail, did not apply at this hotel, calling the duty manager to our room, he confirmed the room should never have been allocated in the condition it was in , and we were allocated a further room.
The room’s was small, the furnishings were not as luxurious as the web site makes them look, in fact the carpet and furniture looked tired and shabby.
While the view of the castle was great, the hotel was not four-star, as rated, in fact rooms were ok but nothing special, just basic.
There was an additional blanket in the wardrobe if required, this blanket was older than my partner and I put together and we are in our forties.
No disrespect, but all the staff seemed to be within the 20+ age group, including the duty manager.
The hotel is in a good location in the Grass Market area and within walking/climbing distance of the castle and the Royal Mile, and about 10 minute walk to Princess Street and Waverly Station.
There are sufficient restaurants / pubs / bars located right outside the hotel.
The hotel does have a swimming pool, although strangely located, it’s on the front of the hotel, at street level, and, although the windows consist of frosted glass, there is a clear piece of glass running across the centre, so all passers by can see directly into the pool.
We always stay in 4* accommodation whilst on holiday, and IMO, this hotel is no comparison to other 4* hotels like Hilton / Crown Plaza / Hyatt etc.
This hotel has gained a 4* reputation through the leisure facilities it provides, and not for their room accommodation.
If you want 4* accommodation within Edinburgh, I would look elsewhere, there are better 4* hotels with more value for money.
This could be a great hotel, if those at management level insisted on “attention to detail” and updating the rooms to that of a true 4* hotel.
The overall impression left with us was “So what” from housekeeping through to management level.
This hotel is attempting to be a unique boutique hotel, however, it has some way to go to achieve this.
My opinions maybe biased due to the problems we experienced with the rooms within the hotel, that being said, I would still have drawn the same conclusion regarding the hotel and rooms
The incidents at the hotel did not spoil our weekend, just took the edge of it.
