We would go to kenya again especially to go on another safari (we did tsavo east and west) and we would stay at this hotel, all in all we had a fab time

| said: just got back from sun n sand had a fantastic holiday.first day my boyfriend fell down some steps. hotel staff could't do enough. they were so appologetic even though it was not their fault. fantastic people.a big thank you goes to Chris(in charge of entertainments)and Alouis(sun bed man)beds were ready for us every day.Chico is the beach man to ask for. he took us out to a few local bars a couple of nights. had great time.didn't feel at all threatened.in fact VERY MUCH AT HOME and that goes for the whole 2 weeks we were there.Me being a vegetarian usually struggle on holiday, not this time, i would give it 6 star+ i never stopped eating. Room service was great. they even did me egg and chips. which was what i was craving for.Beach wasn't paradise but it was clean. The sea was like a bath. warmer than caribean.Did tsavo east and wast. hard work having to get up at 5 in the morning while on holiday but worth every minute.we booked our safari off CHICO saved £100 and had exact same safari as people who booked with tour operator. only difference was that they had to completely vacate their rooms when they went and had a different room to come back to. WE DIDN'T. I know who we'll book with WHEN we go back.FAB HOLIDAY. FAB HOTEL and STAFF FIRST CLASS.

| said: On landing in Mombasa we were quickly through the airport and on awaiting coaches(about half an hour) which I thought was very good.
On arrival at the sun n sands we were greeted with a cool drink and damp towel which was welcome after breaking down in Mombasa which delayed us by 1hour
At the welcome meeting we were then told our rooms would not be ready for 45mins it was an hour and a half before we could get into our room there was no reason given just they were not ready. We were finally given a ground floor room which was very unsatisfactory as it was dirty, dark and very shabby as are most of the rooms in this hotel the bathroom was dirty and had seen better days, there was no water in the mini fridge
On arrival this we did not get until after 6pm as there was a"problem with the water". We moved rooms the next day to one on the third floor that was lighter, but as before had the same shabby furnishings and bathroom and lack of storage space but cleaner
The pool areas and pubic bars etc were kept clean and tidy
Food was of a reasonable standard every night 1 beef and 1 fish dish the snack bar by the pool was good for lunch and quick snacks during the day.
By the name of the hotel Sun n Sand you would think there was a nice white sandy beach which you are given to believe there is by the brochure well there not at low tide there there is a small stripe of sand but venture on to the "beach" and you get swamped by the beach boys this was a disappointment as we like beach based holidays and sun bathing on grass and swimming in a pool is not the same.
Said pool turned green and could not be used for 3 days we also had no running water to flush the loo or shower on 2 days as the pump broke down. The one saving grace for this hotel was its staff who could not do enough for you.
The Sun n Sands is not a 5 star hotel it would be hard pushed to be 3 stars and that's for its swimming pools and staff no I would not go back.

The hotel was exellant the staff were the best, very friendly and couldnt do enough for you.
The food was top class and we couldnt fault it at all.I would definetly recommend the safari we did the 2 nights it was out of this world seeing all the wildlife in there own habitats was unforgettable.
The only down side to this hotel was the beach, you couldnt spend the day there as there were no sunbeds.
I would visit this hotel again.

| said: We have just returned from a fantastic week in Kenya.
We found the hotel staff the friendliest we have ever met, nothing is too much trouble.
The rooms were clean and tidy, but we had problems with our shower every day, definitely not 4*.(The hotel grounds were clean and pools lovely.
We found the entertainment very good 9after previous reviews we were expecting worse).
The trip on safari made our holiday, I recommend going to the tented lodge, it was 5*!
The 2 day safari is not all inclusive, only meals were free, please don't forget to take money for drinks etc!
We wouldn't recommend eating in the payable specialised restaurant (no atmosphere and wasn't worth the money).
Would definitely return to this hotel again though.

| said: The hotel and gardens were kept clean and tidy. The rooms were well equiped with a fridge (bottled water topped up each day), hospitality tray, tv, fan, air conditioning and one double bed and one single. Only thing lacking was drawer space.
The main buffet restaurant had a good choice of international dishes each day. I would have liked to see more local dishes as I like to try the food from the area I am visiting. The standard of food was very good particulary the vegetables. We tried both the Chinese and Italian restaurants and they were also both very good.
The hotel is situated about an hours drive from Mombassa, although with the Kenyan road network this journey seemed much longer.
The staff at Sun n Sand are the most friendly people you could wish to meet. Nothing is too much trouble for them.
The entertainment was fairly low key, but the local dancers and acrobats were well worth seeing.

| said: Nine of us stayed at sun n sand for 14 nights, and all of us had a great holiday.
hotel very clean, rooms cleaned daily, bottles of water, clean towels each day.
Main buffet good, a fair choice, chinese restaurant good, BBQ also good, the Italian was a let down, bland food, cold no atmosphere.
Have a drink outside in maggies bar and meet the locals, very safe. Beach boys o.k but they seem to want more each time this is our 3rd time in Kenya and we have noticed that they seem greedier.
Staff are brilliant and cannot do enough for you always with a smile, no one will pass you without saying jambo.
Entertainment quite good singers dancers etc.
If you can, fly to the Masai Mara for your safari and stay at Mara tented camp, luxury tents, excellent food and surroundings, shower and loo in tent. Saw all the big 5 and more, drove off road most of the time, 3 drives a day.
We all said we would go back to Kenya and stay at the sun n sand hotel.

| said: We had a fab time here at this hotel. Hotel grounds are very clean and spacious, never any probs getting a sun lounger.
The rooms are quite big but are a little basic, but what do you really want other than a bed, shower and wardrobe. You also get a mini fridge, free safe, hair dryer tea and coffee and fresh bottles of water everyday.
The staff here are very very friendly and can not do enough for you, a tip often gets you even more though. They are very grateful for anything, money, clothes, tea/coffee, toiletries etc.
The beach boys ares all very friendly too, they can look a bit scarey when you first see them as they are all grouped together but they leave you if you want them too or they help you and sell you as much as you want, they are just earning a living. One of the beach boys, HENRY, walked us to the coral reef. The walk took around 3 hours and I'm certain that if we had of gone alone without him we would not of seen all the things we did and we would of got many sea urchins in our feet, he was well worth the 600ksh (approx £5) we gave him, even though he never asked for anything.
We also bought some would carvings from him as there is a little shop on the beach which is run by the locals, they will also take you to visit their village, Kikambala, sweets, pencils, paper etc are recommended to take with you for the children, they are so happy when you give them these.
We also did the over night safari to Tsavo East and stayed at the wildlife lodge. This is highly recommended a fab time and what a fab experience.
Food at the hotel was plentiful too and you could get all sorts. The chinese is a must!!!
A fab hotel, a fab destination!!!!

| said: We were very disaapointed with our standard "5* Room". It was more 2 star, so upgraded (free of charge) to a deluxe which was the same but bigger. We had been on a 5 star Safari with Somak staying in the Serena Hotels which were stunning so this was a little disappointing. The Hotel itself was beautiful, the staff were very friendly and there was plenty of choice of food and restaurants. The rooms were cleaned every day and the beds were turned down for us on a night.
The hotel is set in the local village of Kikambala and is very poverty stricken, but the locals are very friendly and welcoming. They want you to buy things from them but that is understandable when you see what they have compared to ourselves.
We got very friendly with 2 of the Beach boys who really made our holiday. ARGASSI AND RINGO (AUGUSTINO AND CHARRO) (they both have safari hats on) were great and took us on a 2 hour sea safari, which we gave them 1000ksh (£8) for. some people were being very tight with the beach boys but we went to their village and met their familiy and they have nothing! No running water or electricity.
Anyway back to the Hotel. The entertainment is very poor and can put you to sleep! Only one night they had acrobats on who were very talented. We went to the Bar just outside the Hotel call Sel-shas (Argassi took us). I wish we had gone on the beginning of the holiday as the music was lively, the beer cheap (80p for a 1 and a half pint bottle) and the people friendly.
There is not a lot of beach at the hotel, probably about 10ft wide and there are no sunbeds on it, but the beds in the hotel go right up to the beach wall so you get the benefit of the sea breeze without the sand getting everywhere!
If you have any old T shirts, football shirts, trainers, or baseball caps, take them with you to give to the locals or to barter with the local shops. you can swap football shirts for beautiful carvings. Haggle with the price though .

| said: Had a great journey with First Choice - everything on time and better leg room on the plane.
Not prepard for the journey through Mombassa to the hotel - my first sight of the poverty that runs through Kenya.
However, found the hotel to be spotlessly clean in all areas. The gardens were manicured.
4 great pools - one to suit most tastes and one including a swim up bar.
The room was 3* the bathroom was 2*. Room cleaned daily. Fresh towels daily.
Food was good but repetitive - we used the Chinese, Italian and grill to break the holiday up.
(However, many guests suffered sickness and the 'Dheli Belly', including my wife who was very ill.)A lot of flies in the dining room.
Entertainment was low key - this suited us, however, those travelling with kids struggled to keep them amused.
The staff, overall, were friendly and helpful but we saw no evidence of the tipping culture others have commented upon.
Beach blighted by 'beach boys' - hassle. Be firm and say no. Beach disappointing, sea warm but again a little disappointing.
Safari is a must and is wonderful. The lodges are fantastic. Every single guest was delighted with their own safari - worth the visit to Kenya alone.
Please be aware Kenya is a desperately poor country and you will see it - it can be very upsetting and at the same time humbling.
I personally would not visit the hotel or Kenya again (it's a big world out there) but would definately go on Safari again. However, for what we paid for an all inclusive holiday we certainly could not complain.

| said: We stayed in the Sun N Sand and were pleasantly surprised by our first trip to Africa. The hotel was spotlessly clean which is not something I normally notice so the standard must have been high.
The buffet restaurant was very good, choice and quality of food was good although the waiter drinks service could be slow, an easy solution is to get youself a drink from the main bar to take in with you. Theme nights included African, Indian and English (get there early for the steak)!
You will be a target for the infamous Kenyan Beach boys and in this hotel they will shout for your attention from the beach as you walk by the poolside. They offer to take you on reef walks, to their village, sell you keyrings etc and they can be very persuasive. If you rise with the sun you can beat them for a peaceful walk along the beach. At the hotel entrance there is a market village which you are encouraged to visit but beware, some people returned without hats, t-shirts and the shoes they were wearing as a result of meetings with the persuasive but friendly villagers.
The entertainment staff are excellent here, plenty organised activities if you want to join in with a separate programme for any kids. Bar staff also were very polite and friendly. Be aware that the night time entertainment isn't great and some is repeated for those staying two weeks. The focus is on early nights and early mornings.
