Thought all staff were brilliant.. maids turned up most days... bar staff were fantastic..funny and found that they were always on hand when needed.. especially Paulo.

good bits
3 swimming pools
fairly spacious rooms and our's had two balconies
clean
maids turned up most days
friendly and helpful staff fairly priced food/drink at the bar and supermarket
bad bit's
very noisy rubbish collection at 3 o'clock in the morning if your staying by the apartments road
rooms need updating maybe this could have been done instead of building another apartment block

Stayed in 2 bed roomed apartment.
Very spacious. 2 balconies, 1 on each side so always has some sun. Very well equipped kitchen. Perfectly clean. Swimming pools very clean. Lovely grounds. People were sweeping and cleaning all the time. There were 100 steps to beach but not as strenuous as we expected. Beautiful beach. Food in bar very good but didn't try restaurant.
Complex shop reasonably priced and very well stocked. Fantastic for children as 2 children's shallow pools and great, safe play area.
If you're looking for reasonably priced evening meal, turn right out of complex, down hill then up hill 15 minutes, 3 Marias restaurant. Under 10 euros for 3 courses plus half bottle very nice wine. We went 3 times and were very impressed with quality.
The zoo marine is definitely worth a visit. Bus collects you outside complex and brings you home at end of day. Fantastic. Fairground rides, swimming pools, dolphin show, sea lion show and bird shows all included in entrance fee.

A Short taxi into the old or new town is only 4 to 5 euro's.
A Few cats and dogs seen around the apartments.
The apartments are slowly being renovated so some areas were a bit noisey first thing in the morning.
Definatly worth a visit.

| said: Overall we really enjoyed our time at the Alfagar and it was generally suited to all age groups.
The hotel was very clean and the maids came very regularly.
The location was beautiful - and the steps down to the beach aren't half as bad as they seem!!!
It was also only about a 20 minutes walking distance to the Strip - a very lively and entertaining place. A taxi to the Old Town also only cost about five euros.
We did stay in and eat at the bar a few times during the holiday - the food was nice but the waiters were quite slow and somehow always managed to avoid you when you needed them.
The entertainment wasn't always as good as it could have been. The best entertainment would probably have been the magician or Carlos Lara and Sons.
However there were a few things we did not like about the hotel - we could not check in until 2 o'clock which we were not told about. There were a lot of stray cats and dogs wondering around the hotel.
Also the accomodation varied quite a bit from room to room - some rooms had a much bigger balconies and were bigger inside than others and one thing we did find very poor was the size of the beds. A bed that two people were expected to share was hardly bigger than a single bed.
Apart from that, everything else was great and it was definitely a holiday we enjoyed!!!

Then location whas wonderful, with a veiw of the sea.
The food was a pleasent varity and lovely deserts.
The staff were polite and willing to help, but will not call you a cab so you have to wait. The cab prices range from 3-4euros for the strip and 4-5 for Old Town.
I recomend anything but self catering and under because I spoke to some people on self-catering and they said they spent alot of money and regretgoing self-catering.
I would go again!!!

| said: The Alfagar apartments are set in beautiful, safe and very clean grounds. Some apartments have a wonderful sea view.
Rooms are very clean with cleaning ladies in every day apart from weekends (unless checking in on that day.) Towels are changed every two days which we have never experienced before -made a pleasant change!
Our apartment got very hot at night but large fans are available for hire at reception and every room has a safety deposit box.
The location was perfect for us. There are no restaurants or bars in walking distance but taxis cost(on average) about 4 euros to 'The Strip' and 5 to the Old Town.Supermarket at hotel reasonably priced and has a mixture of english and local branded products.
All staff were kind and helpful. Taxis can take a while between 7pm-9pm but hotel reception try hard to call the taxis and even took us to the old town in one of the hotels cars once!
We didnt go to any of the hotels entertainment so can't comment.
Cliffs down to the beach are not as bad as they sound!! You need to be careful on the top path but the steps down the cliffs are not particularly steep and quite safe (even when carrying numerous inflatables as we did!)
We would definately visit these apartments again and are ideal for families and/or couples.

The rooms were clean and well equipped. Although when we arrived it seemed like they were putting us in the basement (the rooms were quite dark) but outside the patio doors was a lovely terrace with sun lounges and a grassed area which was perfect for the children.
The staff were pleasant but as we did not stay in the hotel at night (only 3 times in 2 weeks)can't comment much.
The entertainment wasn't very good but it was open until 1pm so we sometimes went into the bar for one for the road!!
The food in the bar was good - wouldn't really recommend the restuarant though - there's better in town.

| said: Perfect location above a beautiful beach, ok there's 160 steps down to it, but the 160 steps back up meant that I spent the week eating loads of gorgeous food and had lost a pound when I got back!
The hotel staff were brilliant. Eclipse had forgotten to tell them we needed a cot and a highchair, but no problem they were there within 5 minutes.
Can't comment about the entertainment.
The shop was well stocked and reasonably priced.
The food in the restaurant was very good, but there are also lots of other good restaurants around (the restaurant at the club, the other hotel right on the beach does fantastic pancakes!!!!)
We had a brilliant holiday, we did hire a car and I would recommend this. If I had to moan, our bedrooms were a little on the small side, there was no microwave (travelling with baby), and the sheets didn't get changed all week, so there was a lot of sand in the bed by the end of the week. But we would use this hotel again!

| said: Wonderful accomodation, set in beautiful grounds and with excellent facilities - three large pools, one dedicated solely to children with a playarea and plenty of sun-loungers close by, tennis courts, well-stocked mini-market and access to Santa Eulalia beach (altho' by a very steep set of stairs - not suitable for those who aren't moderately fit!). Bar food was very good (didn't use the restaurant, so can't comment), with friendly staff but quite frankly awful entertainment! And every night!! Despite asking for a quiet location, we were put in an apartment over the restuarant, which meant that we faced the bar. This was open 'til 1am every night, which meant getting an early night was not an option. But our kids saw this as a bonus, so hey! The apartments themselves were the best equipped of any we have stayed in (oven and hob, ironing board/iron, toaster, kettle etc) and were very clean and well-maintained. We would recommend these apaprtments to anyone. Plenty of trips on offer by the reps - we went on the Portuguese Night (dreadful, especially for children) and to Slide and Splash (fantastic, for everyone).

The reception staff will not call you a taxi you have to queue outside which can take up to and hour to wait, it's quicker to walk.

Will not be returning again and I will not be recommending this holiday resort to anyone.

Food in the restaurant was of a very high standard and food in the bar was good with a slightly more limited choice.
All the bar staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful especially Manuel, Carlos, Paul and David.
The entertainment ranged from pretty poor to excellent. One of the best nights we had was with Zambese Pula Pula, although hes not the greatest singer in the world he's an absolutley fabulous entertainer. Carlos Lara and Sons were also very good, especially the youngest son Marcos Lara who has an amazing voice.
There are three pools one kids one adults and one both (which is the main one used), be there early!

| said: I loved our stay at the Alfagar, and i would definitely return again.
The rooms were very clean and spacious, and the view was lovely as we had a sea view with a balcony.
The location was very good, it was about a 20-30min walk to the strip, and about 40-50min to the old town, i would recommend a taxi for 4-5euros to get to the old town, or catch a train called the Wally trolley on the strip! In the old town off a road from the town square is a strip with a tunnel going to fisherman's beach...the best beach ever, if you carry up the road their is a restaurant called Tasca D'Alkhaz see Alex outside for a table, the food includes a mix of local Portuguese dish's, or a traditional burger & chips! Also on the way to the strip is a new restaurant called Mangello, which has Chicken Piri Piri, ask for breast if you dont want it on the bone, and beware sardines don't come in a tin with tomato sauce, they have head, guts the lot!!
The staff were very friendly and helpful, try Carlos' rum and coke!! Very strong!!
The entertainment was really good, Carlos Lara & sons are so cheesy but so good at the same time!! With Carlos singing Cliff Richard- Summer Holiday, Everyday- Buddy Holly and Amarillo- Tony Christie!! Buy his album for only 5 euros!!
I would recommend the Alfagar to anyone, it is good for families, with a park, children's pool and two normal size ones for all the family!!

| said: The Alfagar is set in beautiful gardens overlooking the sea, we had a two bedroomed apartment (with en-suite) with the most fantastic sea views, fold out bed in lounge was comfortable, whole place was very clean.
The three pools were gorgeous though you had to be up very early to be sure of a sunbed, being July.
On site bar/restaurant was fine, food lovely though service was a bit slow at times, kids waited an hour and a half one night for pizzas!
The Strip is half an hour walk but you are spoilt for choice when you get there, Coyote bar was a favourite stop for a rest! Opposite Chinese at roundabout, cheap drinks, good food and lovely ice creams and the most friendly staff. For a great 'Scottish' breakfast try The Kilt n Celt on Strip, also fantastic steaks. We would definitely recommend The Alfagar to everyone but would like to point out that at the top of the complex the path runs from the top pool to the steps for the beach, the path is so close to the edge of the cliffs with only a single length of rope between you and a sheer drop! We would have been very nervous had our children had been younger, so a word of warning to anyone with a young family,(not the route to take after a night out and a few drinks too many either)!
The Alfagar is a lovely place for your holidays, clean, spacious and would not hesitate in going back again.

| said: The cleanliness of the Alfagar was probably the best we have come across in our varied visits to sunny destinations.
There is a bar restaurant which serves basics throughout the day, the staff are hard working and will be as friendly to you as you are to them.
There is also an evening restaurant which has a far more varied menu and the food is cooked freshly with each order and is excellent.
The complex is situated on the edge of a cliff which means a sloping stairway to the beach. This was steep but not impossible due to the newly constructed steps.
Beach was clean although sun beds were 10 euros each so we lay on the sand as did many others. Entertainment at the complex was low key but some nights good fun - check out Carlos Lara and sons but leave the Freddie Mercury Soundalike who doesn't sound like him at all!
We all thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would return to the Alfagar.

Great location overlooking the sea.
The grounds/gardens were kept immaculate, as were all the pool areas (3).
Plenty of sun loungers for everyone.
The reception staff were very polite and professional, nothing was a problem.
Maid service everyday. We ate at the bar area a few times, food was good and very reasonable.
The mini market was very handy, stocking everything we needed for a self catering holiday.
The taxi service is good to the strip and the old town.
Great choice and restaurants and bars.
Our only complaint was on our first night, we had a room above the bar and it was very noisy. We were moved to another room which was much better.
We would definitely return to these apartments.

| said: The Alfagar Apartments were very nice. They were always cleaned every morning by the maids.
The hotel was set in wonderful well kept gardens on a cliff top. The Alfagar was spread out over a large speace and is a low rise complex, the highest floor being 2/3 high which was nice.
We only had lunch at the bar once which was nice, just snack food is sold there all day and night long. There is a restaurant to eat in of an evening, between 6 - 10pm, but we went out every night into town so never tried the food there.
The hotel was located just outside the Albufeira resort which is quite commercialised. It was about a 30 minute walk to the strip or 4 euros in a taxi to the strip (new town) or the old town.
Didn't appear to be a lot of entertainment at the hotel, there was a couple of nights when we returned but that was about 11pm, so it may have begun and ended!
The staff were very helpful at reception, they would answer any queries you had and book trips for you. A couple of staff at the bar were a bit rude, or felt as though it was a chore to serve you.
The hotel and location was wonderful and there are private steps (102) to the beach which is a very nice beach where there are pedalos and jet skis for hire.
I would definately recommend the Alfagar!

Location was ok 20 mins walk to strip stop at Coyote bar for cheap drink for everyone plus staff are nice also good chinese across road from Coyote. Would recommend going to old town most nights, better atmosphere about the place, would also recommend the Royal Orchid Thai restaurant-excellent best meal of holiday sorry we found it on last night.
Dont know much about entertainment as we went out every evening but what we did see didn`t look that great.
Overall Alfagar was ok and enjoyed holiday but would stay closer to old town next time.

Location approximately 15 minutes walk into the new town area and 40 minutes walk to the old town. Taxis easy and always there within 5 minutes. 5 euros to the new town and 6 to the old town.
Staff in reception, bar and restaurant were friendly and helpful at all times. Highly proffesional standards at reception, many speaking better English than us.
Entertainment for families was good, nice bar to start and finish the evening.
We would certainly visit again, with sea view room being a must just for the breathtaking views of the Atlantic ocean.

The Walk to Santa Elulia took about 10 mins (watch out for the Coyote bar as its only 1 euro a pint) then another 5 mins to the Strip.
Entertainment was different every night but stays on until about 1am.
We asked to be moved because the first room was noisy but our next room was lovely and came with a great terrace and sea view.

Good spacious & very clean apartments
Friendly staff
Food is nice enough - but a limited menu if you like trying local dishes.
Entertainment was fine but the crowd did not join in much except for us & a few Scots.
The price for tennis listed in the apartment was incorrect, so double check first.
The rock climb to the beach is not too bad, I found the road way much worse. The beach is nice & quiet.
I noticed the apartments were only a 3* but our brochure gave it a well deserved 4*.

The beach access is down a fair few (rickety) steps so perhaps not the best if not very able bodied, but the pools would be fine!
Well Worth a visit! Families & couples would be best suited.
The weather in June was fantastic (Both 2003 & 2004)

| said: On arrival, staff were fantastic and allocated us a room on the ground floor next to pool....(Pool was freezing though and actually too cold to swim in)
Rooms and grounds were spotless...The amount of work that goes into landscaping is fantastic..
Location of hotel is a bit of an issue however nothing major...There is a beech about 200m from the complex, but you have to climb down very steep stairs to get to it..(with small children a bit of a problem) worth the climb down though as beech was lovely.....Its a 15 to 20 minute walk into the town where all bars and restaurants are, but a taxi is only 6 euros..
Entertainment was varied but nothing for children. no clubs etc...karaokee most nights and a singer..Ok for adults wanting a quiet drink, but not really good for people with kids as theres not a lot for them to do..
I would 100% definetely visit this hotel again, I know the hotel lacks some ammenities, but it makes up for this with its setting and calmness.....(but I would go there again with children)

| said: We have just returned from a fortnight away at the Alfagar Apartments.
We booked late on a Thomson 4T allocated on arrival basis and were pleasantly surprised by the apartments, location etc.
This complex is actually rated at 3* as advertised everywhere on site on arrival.
Apartments were supplied with all necessary ameneties including a toaster, kettle, coffee maker, oven, hob, fridge and cutlery so really didn't have to provide anything ourselves.
Located directly on a cliff-top, I would recommend trying to book a sea view room or a room with a view of the pool to make this break much more special.
Apartments were clean and tidy and were cleaned 5 days per week (cleaners have Sat & Sun off). Towels changed twice weekly officially although ours ended up changed each day.
The resort is ideal for couples of any ages, several of the older spectrum tend to arrive in the region for 6-8 weeks so speaks volumes really.
Apartments are located a good 10-15 minute walk from the strip of which we visited each evening. We tended to spend most evenings in the Coyote Bar which is the first bar you come to and is priced at just 1 euro a large beer (come on, I am from Yorkshire, I expect a bargain). Would strongly recommend the Royal Chinese restaurant opposite this bar as we visited twice and was of equally good standard. Several other holidaymakers spoke highly about this establishment too.
We were not massive fans of the Old Town due to the sheer number of scratchcard people pestering so didn't venture there very often, however, it appeared that it would be quite lively on an evening so maybe in high season we would have done.
Vilamoura is the Milton Keynes of the Algarve with everything brand new, it seems to lack some of the character of the Albufeira region.
Back on the strip, there were plenty of places to enjoy good food, and with us being self catering, we tended to eat out at breakfast and would recommend either 2 Fat Ladies cafe (turn right after Coyote - dead opposite the Mexican restaurant)or the Dubliner Irish Bar as they provided pleasant surroundings with friendly staff and nice food.
Didn't stay in the complex on an evening often so have rated entertainment at 3 withouthaving anything to base it upon.
Hotel staff were friendly and the shop reasonably priced.
To summarise, we would definitely return to the resort and the accomodation and at this time of year provided a nice temperature of around 18 degrees, much better than 5 or 6 in England!!

| said: Myself and my family have been visiting these apartments for the past seven years. The on site facilities are great. Three swimming pools, one designed specialially for younger children. The staff are very friendly, and have not changed in the past seven years. The cleanliness is second to none. The complex is safe and enclosed. Last year we took my father for the first time, and this year we are taking out 16 year old daughter and her friend. This complex has something for any age and well situated with easy access to shops, resturants and the Old Town.

| said: Although we were self catering (mini market has everything) we enjoyed our main evening meal at the complex main restaurant, the food was reasonable and excellant. The location was exceptional (we had sea view rooms). We travelled with my brother & sister in law who had visted this resort previously and had recommended it. We had a fab time and will definately revist. Families with small children should however be aware of the cliff tops but don't let this put you off. The entertainment was brilliant something different every night and if it's not to your liking Albuferia is a short taxi ride or 1/2 hr stroll away and has everything for everyone. I've rated the cleanliness a 3 due to the pool being a little mucking one day but this was dealt with immediately and was crystal clear within 2 hours.
