| said: A family run place, the Lucia Guesthouse is an ideal place for those wanting clean, basic, affordable accommodation.
This little gem is tucked away down a quiet lane in Sinquerim, just past the Lui Beach Hotel, offering a bit of tranquillity from the mayhem of Calangute/Baga, but still within easy reach of more varied nightlife of Candolim.
Rooms vary from single to two bedroom, with shower room, A/C and a fridge that is stocked with minerals and beer, all at supermarket prices so no fear of a "bar bill" that will shock you at the end of your stay.
From the start Joseph, his wife Lucia and son Lawrence greet you with warmth giving the feel of staying with a family rather than a business run enterprise. If you are a Goa novice, Joseph will gladly impart his knowledge and expertise of Goan way of life, and offer many things to see and do. This exchange usually takes place as he brings breakfast to your balcony each morning as the warmth of the day creeps in and all you have is a sea view and the birds for company.
The guesthouse is the last in the lane so only a small palm plateau leading down the the beach, ideal for early morning walks, the best time to spot the odd dolphin. All in all a great place to stay and my time there was memorable and would not hesitate to return and recommend to others. Looking forward to 2013 and fingers crossed i will be able to book again as the guesthouse is popular with people returning year after year, to what is really a home from home.

The accommodation is lovely with en-suite bathroom (rooms only), spotless! so near to the beach, 2 mins literally! and 3mins walk to the restaurants etc, yet you are in such an oasis of peace...no noise. "Lucia" is a fabulous cook and is always happy to cook, help or do anything for you! (you don't feel invaded tho which is so lovely. Also she knows all the best deals for trips, shopping and anything you may want to know!! I miss her already not to mention Candolim! See you again Lucia! love from Gillians daughter Nicky xx

| said: This was our second visit to Lucia, Joseph and Lawrence's wonderful guest house, and it certainly won't be our last. Truly delightful as ever and we were greeted like long lost friends.
The location is perfect, just a small field behind the house and the ocean just beyond it. A quiet location but close to the buzz of shops and restaurants in Candolim (an easy walk).
The rooms are big and clean. Our room had two rooms, a shower room and balcony overlooking the field, with a useful frige. Breakfast was served to us on our balcony every day by one of our hosts, always accompanied by a good chat. Joseph has been in Candolim most of his life and was very good at identifiying all the colourful species of birds and wildlife that we could spot from the balcony.
Joseph and Lucia could not do more to help make our stay enjoyable, hiring a motorbike for us, giving us tips on places to see, hints on prices, what to do in our six hour stop over in Mumbai, and even inviting us down for 'nibbles' on one of our last nights (delicious king fish and prawns over a glass of beer).
As another reviewer mentions, this is not a Titos or a five star resort but in terms of value for money, it is top notch. And it is worth considering when you book a holiday where your cash is going; would you rather pay a big company for your stay when you have no idea how the money is used and what people are paid, or put it right into the hands of those who have looked after you so brilliantly?! We'll definitely be going back again - like so many guests, one stay and you become a regular. The only worry is that we might not get a room next time we try to book!!

Lucia'Guesthouse is simple and basic but what you need more when you have Lucia, Joseph and Lauwrence on your side? The room was oké, we had two big rooms with a large fridge wich were filled every day with cold drinks, also the cleaning of the room (every day) was perfect even like the towels , the breakfast on the balcony with the amazing view of the Arabic Sea was great. Everyday Joseph and Lucia asked us what kind of breakfast we liked, pancake with coconut, strawberry with cream, yoghurt, fruit, bread and omelet. Also Lucia was cooking for us one evening, the food was very good and we enjoy it to be in their living room for diner, they are so kind! Lucia, Joseph and Lauwrence have a mission, to feel by them like home. We did.............!!!!

| said: We booked Lucia's based on the rave reviews we had seen on various internet sites like this one. I've been to Goa on 6 occasions in the past, so am under no illusions about the hotels etc.,
The booking was made by email, and we sent the deposit by Western Union, no problems there, and Lucia and Joseph are very honest decent people, who work very hard.
However, we booked an air-con room facing the sea, only to be told the week we were due to fly to Goa that we coudn't have the room, the people who were already in there were staying another 3 weeks.
When we arrived at Lucia's, we were given a room with a bed with a 2" thick foam mattress, no air con and windows that hardly opened. We literally couldn't breathe in there, and didn't even bother to unpack. Joeseph found us another room across the way from them, but the accommodation, whilst a lot better, was still not great.
Joseph or Lucia brought us breakfast most mornings, or we went over to them, but we didn't find the food that good, and usually had a second breakfast on the beach. The room was also not cleaned daily, there were piles of dust in the corners, and dead insects.
The cockroaches turned up on day 3, and we spent a jolly hour killing them. The wasps nest outside the bedroom window was the final straw, and we moved up the road to the Lui Beach.
I honestly can't recomment Lucia's to anyone.

| said: We decided to book the Lucia beach guest house after reading numerous excellent reports on the internet and from personal recommendations.
We arrived early morning after a long flight via Sri Lanka and were met by Lucia and Joseph’ driver who soon took us to the guesthouse, which is at the quiet end of Candolim just past the Kingfisher Villa.
We were warmly greeted by Joseph who speedily made us a delicious breakfast and a much needed coffee! Lucia followed shortly afterwards!
Our first room was facing to the front of the guesthouse had a good size balcony, the room was cleaned regularly the towels and sheets were changed every other day, I don’t know how he did it but Joseph would bring up the breakfast as soon as we were awake!
We then moved to the back of the guest house facing the sea and looking over the trees, It consisted of two large rooms, air conditioned with a fridge and shower/bathroom. Every morning we would sit on the balcony while eating a freshly cooked breakfast looking at the local wildlife Kingfishers, Bee catchers, wild peacocks, dancing birds and say hi to the beach shack owners as they take their supplies (approx. 5 minute walk) to the beach.
From the moment we arrived to the time we left Joseph & Lucia and their son Lawrence made us part of their family, Lucia came with us to the local markets and ensured that we were not ripped off. She showed us how to make real Goan curries, buy fresh fruit, fish and bread from the local sellers, crack coconuts and make chapatti, we travelled on the local buses as we were getting too much hassle from the taxi drivers. We had several delicious meals in the guesthouse and Lucia often popped up with snacks!
Here you get real Goa not a plastic imitation and do not regret one single minute we spent there, you do find ants and bugs, but we have stayed in four star hotels all over the globe and seen many more creatures in those establishments including snakes and huge rats.
It is not the Taj or Titos but then again you are not paying Taj or Titos prices! We cannot recommend Lucia Beach guest house enough and are counting the days until we return.
The telephone number above is incorrect +91-832-2479351

Nice restaurants nearby and only a short walk to main Candolim 'strip' - or, local bus trip only 5 rupees or taxi 75 -100(3 people!). Lucia's at end of quiet road so no traffic noise - a good night's sleep followed by Lucia's delicious breakfasts - different everyday and delivered to your room to eat on balcony at your leisure. Both Lucia and Joseph treat you like family members and nothing is too much trouble -a chat, a drink, even washing our beach towels!!! We loved it so much we got very cheap last minute flights in Feb 2009 for 2 and turned up on the doorstep where we were lucky enough to get a room. Our personal preference is for either of the top floor rooms facing the front but our daughter was given a ground floor room in December facing the sea and loved it. Hopefully we shall return!!

| said: This is very basic and you definitely get what you pay for. We ordered a taxi from the owners only to find he never turned up to pick us up from the airport. we waited an hour before deciding to make our own way.
Hotel room was very small and was shared with 4 different species of ants and a host of other insects. There was also so building work going on right outside our room every day which was very noisy and annoying.
I think they was offended when we never ate the breakfast and never got the free meal either. The hotel is in a good location for the beach.
Candolim itself was OK but not OK for young couples as you get too much hassle particularly my girlfriend, lots of beggars too.
I would only recommend this place for people who dont mind hundreds of ants and likes budget accommodation. If i came back to Goa I would be staying in 5 star accommodation like the Taj.

From the very moment we saw it we realized we were extremely lucky we had an opportunity to check in. We do highly recommend everyone to book beforehand for Lucia Beach Guest House is very popular among guests and rather busy. The hosts are a lovely, friendly and helpful couple. They were too kind and served us a different type of breakfast every morning. The guesthouse is perfectly located—not to close to the main town highway, so we were lucky to spend evenings on the spacious balcony being not disturbed by the noise, and 5-minute walk to the sea. We loved holidays spent there a lot.

| said: My family got back from Candolim on Jan 23rd, 2008.
We stayed at Lucia Beach Guest House.
The staff are amazing just like everyone else says.
They will do anything for you. Tehy even let us use their kitchen for our son.
We traveled with our 20 month old son.
There are 6 rooms I believe and they are usually booked. Just write them an email and wait up to 2 days for a response. We paid a 20-30 % deposit through Western Union. The family is very honest who run this place, so don't worry about losing your money
The hotel is clean enough by India standards. There is no restaurant in the Guest House, but there are so many restaurants nearby, so that is not a problem at all. We had a huge fridge in our room and they stock it with drinks and water, and they charge the same prices as the stores, so it is so convenient.
each room has a big ceiling fan and hot water
We looked at most of the rooms. It seems it is more or less the same people who stay at this Guest House year after year.
All rooms have a terrace. Ours was huge. You get good breakfast served to your room. It is so much better breakfast than you will get at most hotels.
1 room has a small kitchenette. (stove/sink/fridge). ANd one room actually is split up to two rooms with a big bed in each (great for family). The rest of the rooms are normal hotel size rooms with bed and bathroom
As far as Candolim goes, it seems to be growing very fast, just like the rest of Goa. The only negative is the ocean has a pretty strong current, which makes it tough with so young a child. For that reason alone, I would suggest another beach, if your child is a wanderer and fearless like ours.
Although It is beautiful water for an adult.
The Guest house is about 250 meters from the beach. You really can't get much closer than that in Candolim. It is on the quietest street ever. No cars can even drive all the way to the Guest House.
There is a hotel with pool only 30 meters away and if you order food/drinks, you can use it.
If I go back to Candolim, I will definitely stay here again.
The crowd in Candolim is high 40s- high 50s in age, so it is relaxed. We saw very few younger couples and young families.
If you go to Candolim, stay at this Guest House (it is actually in Sinquerim, which is the south end of Candolim).

It was a pleasure to meet Lucia and Joseph and they ensured we enjoyed our stay at their guest house. The breakfasts they brought us every day to our balcony were excellant.
The room was cleaned every day with fresh towels and sheets. The view from our balcony was lovely and you could watch the sunset every evening.
The location of the guest house is good just on the outskirts of Candolim but within a couple of minutes you can reach the closet bars and restaurants. It has an excellent location with only 2 minutes walk to the beach from the back of the Guest House.
I would defintely recommend this to anyone and would return here on my next visit to Goa

It's location is perfect, away from the hustle and bustle of Candolim's main street, but only a short stroll to the beach and several good restaurants.
It's about a 15 minute walk up to Candolim's main beach road.
Joseph and Lucia are a lovely couple, they cannot do enough for you. The rooms are cleaned daily, fresh sheets and towels every two days, Lucia even asks what you prefer for breakfast and does her best to please you. Nothing is too much trouble for them.
You wont be disappointed staying here, you are treated as one of the family, their home is your home.
We will definitely go back.

Joseph and Lucia are so friendly you'll feel like one of the family in days, what other hotel will invite you to eat with the family on your last night?
Breakfast would be bought to your room every morning and would be something different every day.
Stayed in a beach facing room with great views of the sunsets. Early morning you sit on your balcony watching numerous brightly coloured parrakeet's, kingfishers, rollers and bee-eaters flying close by, palm squirrels running up and down the palm trees.... Heaven!! Absolutely no other buildings between you and the beach!! Right next to the Taj one one side and the Kingfisher Villa on the other..
Will definitely be going to stay with them again.

We had one of the upstairs set of rooms , facing the ocean. The rooms are light and airy, with a little balcony, just perfect for breakfast (lovely fresh fruit, tea and toast -brought to you just when you need it , Joseph and Lucia have an uncanny knack of knowing just when you are back in the land of the living!), and Sundowners!
If on holiday you like to have your own space ,where you can relax in peaceful, beautiful surroundings yet you are only a short taxi ride away from the hustle and bustle , then the Lucia Beach Guest house is the place to go. We loved it, and will be back again just as soon as we possibly can, and for 3 weeks at least!

| said: Lucia beach guest house is a small family run bed and breakfast in Candolim. It is situated right next door to the Taj at the Sinquerim end of Candolim!
It has about 6 rooms that are let out, for any period of time, we stayed for three months! The rooms vary, the one we had, had a fridge, bathroom and bedroom. Some others are larger with kitchen and air con, if you want it! Fans are adequate! we had a room looking straight out to the beach. It is about 100meter walk down through the sand dunes to baywatch beach shack! Great place, great owners!!!! Good place to watch the sunset, or you can watch it form your room!
The guest house is owned by a Goan family and their son. They clean your room every other day, and change the sheets!!! They have lots of stories to tell! Speak English to! They also have there own taxi driver (their nephew) and before you travel you can arrange with them for him to pick you up from the airport!
It is in a very good location, at the quite end of Candolim, down the same road as the Lui beach hotel. You can also use the pool in this hotel if you buy drinks at the bar!!!
There are taxi drivers waiting at the end of the road if you don't want to walk, and the bus to Mapusa, Panjim, Calangute also stops at the end! We use to walk up into the main Candloim beach road and it takes about 20mins! it's good walking down the beach or along the road!
Satying here doesn't feel touristy! The houses surrounding are local Goan house, with their own pigs! The grand Kingfisher mansion is next door to!
It is a very nice place to stay, you won't be disappointed!
If you do email the owner it may take a few days for a reply!!!! just to warn you, he isn't ignoring your emails, I just don't think they check it everyday!!
