This hotel is one of the best that we have ever stayed in.

We were welcomed by a glass of champagne on arrival and from then onwards the service was second to none. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable, and cleaned to a very high standard.

The food is great with lots to choose from. The location is right on the beach-front and just a very short walk to the square where you will find some restaurants/bars and a supermarket.

The entertainment is just what you expect when on holiday and adequate for our needs, a couple of show nights and live music the rest of the week.

We were unable to find any faults with this hotel. We could even pay a deposit of 10 Euros and have clean towels for the pool every day.

This hotel is one of the best we have ever stayed in. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the rooms were very spacious and immaculately cleaned every day. The food was to die for - something for everyone. There were four adults in our party and every meal was fantastic especially breakfast. We didn't stay in the hotel at night so cannot comments about the entertainment. Location for us was perfect for a totally relaxing holiday but if it's shops and clubs you're looking for then this is not the place for you.

As we have stayed in a RIU hotel in Mexico we knew this hotel would be fine.

It was better than fine, every aspect was great. The hotel was spotless, the variety of food was important as my wife is a vegetarian, and again no problems here. We chose the earlier seating time (6.30pm) as we thought the 8.30pm time was to late-but there is no problem with changing the time you eat.

The staff could'nt do enough for you. We never saw the entertainment so cant comment on this although there were different shows on each night.

We will definatly be visiting this hotel again!!!!!

Riu hotels certainly know how to look after their guests.
This is the third hotel in their group that we have enjoyed. The others being in Mexico and Torremolinos.
The standard is just amazing.

Owing to a delay at Manchester airport we arrived too late for dinner. Staff were still on hand with our welcome drink of Cava and to check us in with a smile and a friendly manner. The hotel management put on a late cold buffet at 11.30pm especially for our group, it was much appreciated.

The room was superb and spacious with a lovely view over the river estuary and gardens. The patio style windows are double glazed so very little disruption from the fishing boats sailing with the tide in the early hours. Thoughtfully the windows had a secondary set of heat reflective curtains which also cut down the noise, heat and strong sunlight in the early morning.
The room was well furnished plenty of hangers in the wardrobe and plenty of drawer space. The air conditioning was perfect and operated independantly to the electric which switched off when leaving the room. We found that by removing the plastic card (this controlled the electric supply)from the key ring and leaving it in the slot on the wall all was well and the minibar fridge stayed on!
The TV had a fair selection of English speaking channels, although OK for us BBC and ITV were tuned to BBC and ITV Wales, odd!

The Main bar/lounge and the reception lounge are exclusively non smoking. The public areas are vast.
The thing that stuck us most was that although the hotel was reportedly full the hotel public areas always had spare seats and never seemed busy. Same by the pool so many loungers that even the Germans could not cover all of them. One negative thing, around the pool the tiled area sloped away from the pool side so water splash from bathers contantly ran under the longers soaking anything in its path.
The Thompsons rep was a little odd, no very odd, and very abrupt with one word answers to any questions. The trip to Sevilla booked through the rep was poor value for money at 56 euros each for a 3 hours bus ride round trip. The sights were extra paid locally.

The hotel runs a free bus into Ayamonte the nearest town, you need to do this if you want to buy gifts and tobacco goods. They do shut down in the afternoon for Siesta.

A small critism of the hotel was that no late check out room was available. However the changing rooms in the gym proved adequet for a quick freshen up and change of clothes before leaving.

We booked our holiday through the Thompson Platinum brochure, so we expected a reasonably high standard of accommodation. However, what we found far exceeded our expectations. The hotel was fantastic, brilliant out of this world. From the moment we arrived the "feel" of the hotel was of the highest order.

The staff were very friendly to us(especially to our 15 month old son) and we were made to feel welcome at all times.

The room was huge (corner room overlooking the front entrance)and all facilities were to a good standard. The room was cleaned every day.

The rest of the hotel was just as pleasing. The main pool was immaculate with life guards in attendance at all times. We lived in the kiddies paddling pool which was just right for our son.

However, the best part was the food. We were allocated the 7.00pm sitting and which was perfect for us. The head waiter made us welcome from the start and ensured each night that all was well. The standard of food was to the highest order. My mouth is watering just thinking about it now.

We enjoyed the Riu Hotel so much that we are booking the Hotel Riu Ferrara (Torrox) later this year.

This was our first visit to this hotel and I certainly hope that it is not the last. It is rare to return from holiday and find that you cannot think up a single improvement to the hotel but that is the case with the Atlantico.

The hotel staff from cleaners through to management went out of their way to be helpful and friendly, and in a sincere not forced way.

There was an extensive choice of good quality food with something for everyone.

The entertainment was some of the best that I have seen in any hotel.

This hotel is pure quality and a credit to the staff and the Rui group.

We have just come back from our second visit to the Riu Atlantico and can't wait to go back. As we found on our first visit in 2004 the staff were just as friendly and helpful.

The hotel is situated in the best position on a beautiful beach and was just as clean and spectacular as we remembered it.

The restaurant offered a wide selection of food both morning and evening with the poolside restaurant offering an equally good selection of snacks. The poolside staff worked tirelessly offering a waiter service to guests on sun beds around the pool.

Our room had spectacular views overlooking both the sea and the inlet to the fishing harbour and the marina. One afternoon we watched seven / eight dolphins following one of the fishing boats back into the harbour it was absolutely fantastic. The room itself was very clean and spacious and had two full size wardrobes and plenty of chest of drawers (for all those clothes we take and never wear).

The entertainment team I can only describe as simply the best they worked very hard to ensure all guests had the opportunity to be included in a great programme of daytime and evening entertainment and respected those guests who did not. The daytime entertainment (cocktail games) certainly gave everyone who took part and those who watched a great laugh and enhanced the friendly atmosphere between staff and guests.

Just returned from this faultless hotel.

The food was fantastic as were the bedrooms. I feel it is touch and go with the rooms, as some people have commented on them not being up to standard, the 2 double's we had were like brand new.

The resort of Isla Canela is made up of newish, 'up-market-ish' apartments owned mainly by the Spanish. There is a nice harbour, around which there are a few bars/rest's- no tacky shops or pubs at all, which we really liked.

On to the entertainment - I am not one for it really (not abroad anyway!) but the Riu animation team were superb for our children, bits and bobs of things during the day (not in your face) and shows of an evening (Grease etc...) They loved it, so they told me!

All in all we had a fabulous time in a superior hotel with the best food ever. I would say one thing, and this is only my opinion, the hotel is more suited for families during July/Aug as it was very busy with lots of children, if you are a couple I think May/June/Sept would be just perfect.

I have stayed at the Riu Atlantico several times and always go back there.
As with all Riu hotels I have stayed at they are spot on.

The food is excellent, the service is second to none and the price (including my Riu Club Card) is very reasonable.

We are staying again in September this time with our baby daughter and have no reservations about our stay.

I would advise anyone to make this your preference when visiting Isla Canela Half/full board (or hire our apartment for self catering!!)

Riu = class all over the world.

This report follows my second visit. Little has changed since 2002. The hotel interior is sumptuous, the food excellent and all members of staff are extremely helpful and genuinely friendly. We asked this time if we could have a room on the riverside, the staff obliged and we had a room with a fantastic view.
This hotel location is in a relatively unspoilt part of Spain, close to the Portugese border. Although the area is being developed, there is no night life to speak of, which suited us anyway. Evenings can be spent watching the hotel entertainment or chilling out in the winter garden area of the hotel.
The only thing that spoilt the holiday was a noisy all night rave type party, going on all night across the other side of the river for two nights (not the hotels fault).
This hotel is a must, for those who enjoy a laid back break.

The Riu Atlantico has to be the best hotel we have stayed in. The moment you step through the doors of the hotel and into the spectacular reception area you can see and feel the superior quality and friendliness of the hotel and its staff. High standards of cleanliness are apparant throughout the hotel all times of day and night, the food was great and the service was second to none, ALL the staff were smiling and friendly towards guests and each other (always a good sign). Entertainment was varied and good especially the themed nights which was carried through into the restaurant through its excellent, wide and varied choices of food, the tastefull decoration of the area leading into the restaurant and the costumes worn by the staff. There were also area's for guests who did not want to be entertained to simply relax, chat and enjoy the surroundings. The location suited us as it was quiet with no major shops other than a couple of supermarkets and gift shops but it is developing. The sea on one side and the harbour on the other made for pleasant strolls both day and night. A hotel we would definitely visit again and again.

Absolutely perfect!

Food I think I counted 15 types of bread. If you wanted something that wasnot on the menu, you only had to ask. Three different flavours of ice cream, with every conceivable kind of topping to suit any adult or kid. I challenge anybody to fault any part of the dining experience.

Something else I have not seen before, we did not drink all our wine one day. The next day the rest was brought out without even asking for it.

Whilst we were there, the Real Madrid football team stayed. They all had the same treatment as the rest of the guests, dining in the same area, watching the entertainment.

Which was nice knowing that the standards are good enough without putting preferential treatment on. I think that said a lot.

I would not hesitate to recommend this to anybody- first class from start to finish

One more thing, we went on a very early daytrip to Madrid. I went to change my travellers cheques and there was not enough cash to give me. So the person at reception woke the manager up to bring cash. you do not get that very often.

Well done to all of the staff

The thompson rep was lovely she even put up with me tormenting her about the football team being gay.

A good time had by all

The Riu Atlantico is in a fabulous position in the resort of Isla Canela. It stands on the end of a large stretch of clean white sand. The beach is absolutely beautiful.

The hotel is of a very high standard, lovely rooms all air conditioned (which you will be grateful of in high season!). They are kept immaculate, and all of the staff were friendly.

The food was buffet style and at all times had something on for every one. Although the food was buffet if was of a good standard, I cannot think of one bad meal over the 2 wks.

We could always get sunbeds around the pool, at different times of the day!, which is a refreshing change.

My only critisism, was the entertainment, although the staff were great and worked tirelessly to entertain us, sometimes it was a bit naf.

But with everything else being so good that was not a great problem

I visit this area approximately twice per year for the last 4 years and have stayed in the Riu Atlantico once. The room was excellent although not as large as in some hotels but cleanliness was extremely high as was the hotel throughout. Its location on the corner of the small complex and on the lovely, uncrowded, sandy beach (every bit as good as the Algarve) couldn't have been better.
The staff, on our first visit, couldn't speak English but now most of them do (a little) but a phrase book is a must for the area in general.
The food, especially in the restaurant, is the best in the area for selection, quality and price.
The entertainment in the hotel is certainly adequate for those who like a quieter holiday i.e. me.
Our first visit was when we stayed at the Riu Atlantico but now we stay in our own apartment just next door to the hotel so have the best of both worlds.

This was our first experience of a Riu Hotel and as a consequence we have stayed with them again in another resort. Everything about the hotel was fantastic.

It is situated on a very pretty pedestrian promenade which you cross to reach the beach.

The room, food and location could not have been better.

As for the hotel staff, nothing was too much trouble for them. This is how a hotel should be, clean, spacious and with staff that are attentive without being overbearing.

Riu are without doubt the best hotel group we have stayed with and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone. We will definitely being paying a return visit in the near future.

Situated in a newly developed area, Hotel Atlantica is a recently built modern hotel with excellent facilities. Located virtually on the beach, the hotel has good pool facilities, both indoor and outdoor. The long beach is quiet, clean and being on the Atlantic coast, attractive to windsurfers. Rooms are good size and maintained well. Buffet style dinner is served in two sittings, 6pm and 9pm. Food selection and quality is of a very good standard.

Because the area is still under development, facilities outside the hotel are somewhat limited, with a few bars and a supermarket situated near to the harbour area. The great majority of visitirs are Spanish who travel from all over Spain.

This is a modern stylish hotel, situated almost on the beach and next to a fishing port. The hotel has a feeling of grandier its interior is eminates a comfortable laid back atmosphere. The hotel has two good sized swimming pools (one of which is inside).
Dinner is served in a formal but relaxed setting, the quality of the food is exellent, with a good variation. A hotel not to be missed, in fact I am returning to the same hotel this year, which is a first for me.
