Disappointing
After a warm welcome at the hotel we were disappointed when shown our room as there was only 1 double bed for us (2 Adults & 8yr old Daughter), I straight away asked to be moved but was told the hotel was fully booked, so we had to have a very hard & uncomfortable camp bed put in the room which made the room quite small. We then found that the safe did not work and took 3 days of continuous chasing before it was fixed.
The first night we ate at Café Andaman, the food and service was excellent. We booked the Panwa House through the Reception Staff for the next night for 8 people, when we arrived they had no record of our booking but after 20 minutes we had a table. The starters were lovely so we thought we were in for another night of excellent food, but we were sadly disappointed when after ordering our main meal we were told 30 minutes later that there was no chicken left, so we ordered again, another 30 minutes went by and the rice and noodles came out, 20 minutes later only half of the meat dishes came out and were either cold or the the wrong dishes, by now the time was 11pm and we were past eating and with 3 tired children we just left, the staff at the Panwa House did not seem to care or be able to cater for a party of 8. We complained the next day to Tim & Claude and were told that the bill would be waived. This then took until our departure day to get the bill taken off our room.
Next night we booked the Top of the Reef through the Reception Staff, again for 8 people and again told no reservations, after reporting this straight to Tim we had a table within 20 minutes. The food and service was excellent although a little pricey.
Highlights
We ate at the Sawasdee Restaurant next to the Bay Hotel a couple of times, the place was always busy so we sometimes had to wait a little while for a table, so we had a drink in the clockhouse. The food & service was always excellent and paying about £40 for eight of us.
We also went to the Royal Indian Restaurant four times again excellent food and service the best we have ever had, I would definitely recommend a visit here.
We also tried the Hilltop, fantastic views and good meals.
The staff at the Beach Bar, John, Sandy & Jennifer were excellent, by the end of our first day they knew everyone’s name and could not do enough for you to ensure our stay was relaxing, they even sorted out our sun beds every morning, it was a shame that the reception staff were not as good.
The beach was lovely and clean and never crowded, it was great that that there was no beach sellers to hassle you. The sea was very warm and inviting just like a bath, although you are not able to swim at low tide. The kids loved the concrete path for standing in the water watching and feeding the fish.
The kids used the pool at the beach most days rather than the one up at the hotel, but did have fun going up and down in the tram.
All in all we had a great time at the Cape Panwa and would recommend this hotel for its beautiful setting, location and the peace and quiet, not sure if I would stay here again as we like to try different places.

On our first stay at Cape Panwa (2004) we travelled as a couple and fell in love with the place and the people, so much so that we went back but this time with my wifes parents, brother and sister.
On arrival we were very pleasently surprised that many of the staff who were there on our previous visit remembered us and from then on we felt like we were treated like royalty.
The place hasn't changed much and the food at the Cafe Andaman was as good as we had remembered. The hill hadn't changed but we had to prove to ourselves that we could still walk it, and we did.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were sad when the day to leave came. Our travelling companions are still talking about the holiday now. (Over a month since we returned!) We will definitely be going back.

| said: Brilliant hotel, just as good as first visit in 1989 when it had just opened. It is a taxi ride away from most of the hotels and nightlife, so not ideal for everyone, but if you want a beautiful private beach and two gorgeous pools (one on the beach) then this is the place to be. Tranquil setting, delightful hotel.
Lovely food with masses of choice. Don't however, book the full board option if you have a child. They pay the full amount but only get half the credit. We managed to cancel and it was OK.
We've stayed in many great hotels all over the place but this is the one I would choose to go back to for a relaxing break. Wish I was there right now....
