This is the third time we have been to the Maralen and each time has been wonderful. The rooms are cleaned every day and the staff are really friendly, especially Oksana from the Ukraine, she works very hard every day for long hours and you can often see her around the pool making sure everything is ok. The Maralen is not far from the main strip of restaurants/bars. The restaurant we enjoyed the most was the Diaz, which is just off the main strip from the 'Drunk Corner'. But this name is nothing like it sounds - it is a family friendly place and there are lots of children there with their parents, playing pool, etc. The main attraction though is the big screen TV, ideal when there is a British football match playing!

Step outside the Maralen and turn left and walk approx 200yds and you are on the beach, excellent location, all in all, a fabulous place to visit!

We have all come back having a wonderful holiday at the Hotel Marelen, with wonderful staff, great food, beautifully presented gardens and a fabulous position. Its not very often to go on hols and not have any complaint at all, be we really dont.

The kids had a ball with the kids club and games room, the entertainment at night was superb and for all ages. A must is the bbq, and greek night and pizza night. the local singers were excellent.

Nick and mikila are the married couple behind the bar do the entertaining and will keep you in sticthes just listeneing to them heckling...although you will see mikila behind the reception, shop, and snackbar I think they must live in the hotel.

I don't know where they get there energy as they were always smiling.

So yes great food, great fun, great hotel, great cleanliness, everything was great, so we are all ging back next year in August to endure the heat!!!!!!!!

Just back from a great week in Zante, and at the Marelen Hotel! Its a really nice hotel, and family run I believe!
Checked in at about 7.30am, this was done quickly, however there may have been a problem with the details because when we asked for a safety deposit box(which are located in reception, the ones you get in the room i think are a lot better) she said €25 for 2 weeks, even though we were only staying for one! This could be the reason we got a double bed room with a bunk bed in it, and a poor view, because they thought we were there for 2 weeks! However she showed us to the room promptly!
The rooms are very basic, at first I wasnt impressed, but i think this is because I walked onto the balcony and the view was poor, we stayed in room 450! However there is sufficient space, with a small bathroom and shower, however the shower is not hung on the wall you have to hold it yourself! There is a walldrobe, drawer space, and desk with mirror!
After we had unpacked we headed down for breakfast! It was rather nice, although spicy sausages, not really what you want for breakfast! Other than that it was eatable!
The pool area was a fair size, and we never had trouble for a sunbed! The pool however is freezing, but refreshing, except when the sun is under cloud cover then it does tend to be cold while you are in there! The snack bar is cheap and the food is really nice, it is very quick service! The entertainment was good what we saw of it and they try to get everyone involved! The only problem with the hotel is that the reception staff seem to be really friendly for a couple of days, and then after that they appear to be a little bit a*sey! The rooms are cleaned everyday to a high standard and overall the hotel is looked after really well!
The beach is 1 minute away... the Marelen lies on a strip of hotels and is on the edge of Kalamaki, however once you are on the main street it doesnt seem a far walk to all the shops and bars! The bars are really cheap and some resturants are pricey, whereas others are not, however you will find the food quality is the same! You must have a meal at the Vine tree i think it is called, next to Coconut Joes, and Drunk Corner is really cheap for cocktails and the staff are friendly! The bar at the end of the strip 3 cocktails for €8 is really nice and the people are exceptionally nice to you!
We did try the boat trip. I would reccomend not doing the full day one, as after you have seen Smugglers Cove it is a little bit boring, but well worth it to see the cove!
The beach is really nice, and although your not allowed on it at dusk, during the day it is really busy and you can go really far out to sea and its not that deep!
All in all a good holiday, I would go to Kalamaki and the Marelen again, however in a couple of years time after the airport is sorted(nightmare) and because it would get boring going to the same street again! 1 week is enough, and enjoyable!

Stayed for a week at the Marelen and really enjoyed it.Hotel is really nice great pool space and loads of sunbeds.Staff are friendly and helpful and the hotel is really clean, though the entertainment could be better Rhiannon who organises the entertainment is really nice but it wasn't up to much. Breakfast was basic but acceptable with something for everyone. About 2 mins from the beach and 10 mins from the strip. Would definatley go here again

Just returned from the Marelen after a fantastic 2 weeks there.

Kalamaki is just starting to liven up at the begining of the season so many hotels are empty and dead, not the Marelen.

It was quite busy both weeks especially with people who have been before, in fact we spoke to 2 old ladies who had been going for the last 11 years. I think this proves what a good place this is. The pool area is great. Sunbeds are free and even if you go down at midday there are still plenty left.

The staff were very friendly and always spoke and had a smile. The rooms were basic as are most anywhere in Greece but they were clean and comfotable.

Nick the barman is great and will stand and have a laugh with people until the early hours of the morning, in fact he's a bit of a nutter and the type of guy who makes your holiday. Most nights he is assisted (?) by Eddy who seams to be the odd job man. He looks after the gardens, pool area, maintenance and dozens of other jobs from early morning to late at night and always with a smile.

Michaella looks after entertainment and most other things. The entertainment isn't bad but is limited to the usual Greek night with a meal & local dancers, live singers and bands and popular games. You have to pay for some of the nights i.e. Greek night but the price is ok and if you don't fancy it she doesn't pressurise you which is great.

The location is great. The brochure said 5 mins to the beach and 10 mins to the resort. You are only 2 mins from the beach which is great and only 5 mins from the strip where there are enough bars and resteraunts to suit everyone. We ate there regularly and the food is excelent and reasonably priced. We paid between 22 and 40 Euro's for a meal for 2 including starters and drinks and sometimes a sweet.

There are no motorised watersports on the beach only pedalo's and sunbeds. This is because it is a protected area due to the Logahead Turtles who come on to the beach to lay their eggs. You can walk into the sea fo 50 metres and still only have the water up to you chest which makes it safe and great for kids. You can also spot many turtles in the water and even swim with them. Most are over a meter long.

You are VERY close to the airport but this never bothered us. You can virtually see people waving at you from the planes as they come in to land. The brochure said the transfer time was 10 to 15 mins. This ended up being well over an hour due to going to Argassi first and then to Kalamaki. I would recomend getting a taxi from the airport. You will be at your Hotel in 10 minutes and it will only cost 10 Euro's each way.

All in all this was one of the best holidays we have had and we are already looking to book the Marelen again for next year.

It's location and the staff make the Marelen a brilliant place to stay.

We chose this hotel and resort for its close proximity to the airport (3km to resort), the transfer took 1hr 15mins, due to making several drops at Lagana 1st!!!!

We got a taxi back to the airport on the way home, it took 5 Min's and cost 10 euros, well worth it. The hotel itself was very clean and well maintained, but we were disappointed with our room as it was very small with insufficient storage for a family of four and being in a thoroughfare for the rest of the rooms, it was noisy at night, bearing in mind that most nights the entertainment didn't start until 10pm!

The pool was cold but I am sure as the weather gets hotter it will be better. The breakfasts were fine, a good selection every morning.

The Location of the hotel is perfect, about 2 minutes walk to the beach and a 5 minute walk to shops and restaurants.

Staff friendly and helpful. The beakfast was very varied for Greek standards.

The entertainment was O.K. but Coco The Clown is on to a very good thing with the Bingo, collecting 90 euros in and paying out 17 euros in prize money!!!!!

All in all I couldn't fault the hotel in any way.

Hi have just returned from 2 weeks in this hotel and we all had a great time. the rooms were clean, spacioius and very comfortable.

We were overlooking the pool so had lovely view. There was a fridge in room which you had to pay extra for, but was well worth it for chilled drinks. We also paid extra for air conditioning which was welcome.

The staff were friendly enough when we needed them, we had breakfast which comprised of toast, cheeses, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, beans (these varied on a daily basis) cereals, fruit juices, tea coffee, cakes, porrige an jelly. sometimes we had croissants.

We sometimes bought lunch at the hotel if we stayed around the pool all dy. lunches were always very good, hot and cold sandwiches, burgers, chips, greek salads, no omplaints there and quite well priced too.

Was not happy with the bar though. Cocktails were 2.5 euros each between 6.30pm and 8.30pm. after that they were 5 euros each and were not as good as the cocktails on the 'strip'.

The hotel is literally 5 minutes from a beautiful beach and about 15 to the main strip full of bars and resturants.

The pool was lovely and clean with plenty of sun loungers for all. a kiddy's pool there also. there was some sort of kiddis rep who enetertained then throug the day but only briefly. we did not stay much in the hotel at night so can't rally speak on entertainment, but they had bingo, karaoke and a greek night which was very popular with guests.

All in all it is a lovely hotel and am sure anyone would enjoy there stay there.

Food repetitive. Hotel quite clean. Location 15 mins walk to bars and restaurants. Staff very unfriendly. Entertainment poor.

I would not visit again. Air conditioning can be hired for 30 euros per week, fridge hired for 25 euros per week, no kettle, cooker or cups saucers etc found this diabolical.

We have just had a fab holiday at the hotel marelen, and cannot fault it. The food was exceelent and always willing to help with new ideas, the kids club is only run mon-thurs but well run and the kids love micheala she has a special knack with children, by the way she also does the entertainment and is always around when you need her, we never paid for any entertainment except for bbq and greeknight which were excellent!

But if you went for a meal you would have to pay as it doesnt't come free!!

The reception are always friendly and they organised a wheelchair for us without any hassle.

I would reccommend this hotel to any family or couple wanting to have some fun, if you are the type to moan you will always find fault in the best of the best......

We stayed at the hotel Marleen in May. We went with our daughter who would be turning 1 whilst we where there.

When we arrived at the hotel we were pointed to our room, we were told it was on the ground floor, so we spent a while walking around trying to find the room, we soon found out that it wasn't on the ground floor but up three flights of stairs, we had to carry the baby, pushchair and suitcases up these.

We had our welcome meeting the next day and spoke to our rep about us moving, she said she would sort it out and let us know what had happened. Later that day we noticed that the rep had gone and so we went to the reception and asked them if we were being moved. They said the rep hadn't told them that we wanted to be moved but if she had then we would of been moved but now it was too late and all the ground floor was booked up. So we had to carry the baby and pushchair up 3 flights of stairs everytime we had to go to the room.

The key you have for the room also has a key on for the electricity, so this means that one person can't go out with the key because the lights go off, so when my boyfriend stayed out a bit later than me it meant he had to wake me up to get in the room, or if he took the key I was left in darkness!!

While we were are the hotel I had my purse stolen from beside the pool when I reported it the staff where very unhelpful. I was very upset as I had just over £200 and my boyfriends credit card in the purse and they did nothing to help.

We went back to the reception a few times during the day but they just still didn't help. The next night the receptionist called us over as we where leaving and showed us a purse that had been found, it was mine, but all the money had gone except for a few euros, when we told them the English money had gone they said if the money had been taken why hadn't they took the euros as well. So they where basicly calling me a liar.

A few days later my boyfriend remember he had left his top by the pool and when to see if it had been handed in. The reception shouted at him and asked why we kept losing things, we never got the top back.

The entertainment at the hotel was rubbish, they had a quiz, a b.b.q (not value for money at all) a clown for the kids (at 10pm!) who did face painting for 2 euros each and bingo (at 3 euros a go). So you had to pay extra for the entainment.

There was meant to be a kids club on but it wasn't because the grass haven't grown, but there was nothing to stop them playing games with the kids in the hotel. They did nothing with them.

We were self catering, but our friends we made there said the breakfast was rubbish and not worth getting up for, the breakfast was from 7.30 until 9.30. this I thought was odd as they didn't put any entainment on until after 10 so most people where still in bed at 9.

In our room we had a fridge, a kettle( had white bits floating in it, so couldn't use it for the babies bottles) and two cooker rings, it was impossible to cook a meal in the room because they gave you nothing except 2 pans and 1 frying pan.

The hotel room was kept very clean and we had the maid come 6 times during the 7 days.

The hotel is located at the bottom of the run way. i was quite worried about the noise of the planes but it was quite good watching them come pass as they where quite low. They didn't come at night and didn't start until after 9 ish.

We spent a bit of time in the hotel across the road as the hotel and bar was really nice and the staff where very friendly.

Would not recommend the hotel marelen to anyone, staff are unfriendly, entertainment is totally rubbish and a rip off (shouldn't have to pay for face painting)
the internet was 3 euros for 15 minutes!!
pool table was 1.50 euro

If you are planning to go to zante on holiday I would recommend staying nearer to Zante town.

If you are going away with a child in a pushcahir I wouldn't reccommend Zante at all as you are walking down the road all the time as there is hardly any payments for you to use.

Never when on any boats trips and I heared a lot of bad things about them and it is cheaper to go to the beach and pay the boat directly.

Not a great hotel at all

First time in Zante and we loved it. Ok first off the hotel, its set just a few 100M from a long sandy beach and 10 minutes walk from the main bars and restraints. We thought this to be ideal.

The hotel grounds were very well presented and the lay out of the low rise apartment blocks was good. The pool got the sun all day with refreshments at hand at a fair price.

The rooms were very good for Greek standards with any problems we encured rectified immediately. But why wouldn't they give us a plug for the bath?. The hotel bar was well stocked with mad bar staff pouring cocktails for 2.5 euro and kids soft drinks for 1 euro.

We only ate one breakfast at the hotel as we were to lazy to get up in time for it but yet again it was cooked well and good value.

The staff were very friendly and even charged my mobile as I forgot my charger. All in all the hotel was very good value indeed.

All the local bars and restraints are geared for the quitter holiday maker and families witch is just what we wanted, to wind down and relax.

I think all the prices are standardised as most restraints charged about the same for the food and drink. Yet again the food was good on the whole and service was always with a smile.

Taxis to Lagana were 7 euro so a noisy night out wasn't to far away, but as its the end of the season most places were closing down.

The beach wasn't that clean, it could have been much better but we always managed to find a good spot to relax on.
The turtles lay there eggs here during the summer months and your not allowed on the beach in the evenings for this reason.

I must recommend divers paradise for a great diving trip, it’s a must if your into that sort of thing.

My only concern about our holiday were the dozen or so earthquakes we experienced during our 2nd week, the locals shrug the off but we found the to be a bit nerve racking especial when we found out the island was almost shaken apart in 1953.

We had a great stay here in this hotel!

The rooms are laid out lovely around the pool.

The apartment we stayed in was a large studio type of apartment. Full equipped kitchen (but we didn’t make much use of this as we ate out alot!)
You can rent out air conditioning in the room & is recommended!
Rooms were cleaned just about every day (apart from 2 days out of the 3wks).

We stayed self-catering but ate everyday by the pool. The food was really good and had a good variety too.

It is quite close to the beach, only a 2 min walk that was really handy but we stayed by the pool most days, as it was quite large.
Didn’t have problems getting a sun bed, which really helps (even though we were there peak season July-Aug). The weather when we were there was unreal!! Up in the 40’s!

We never really drank much in the hotel; we just met up with friends along the main strip so I can’t comment fairly on the entertainment side!
We did go to other bars in other hotels and none of them around

This was a perfect hotel for us but the only drawback was that it would take us about 6-7mins to walk to the central part of the town.
For this reason and the steps up to the apartment, this property would not really be suitable for disable people.

You can see the planes coming in and out which nice and surprisingly, they don’t make too much noise!

Most liked: Pool area and pool bar!
Most disliked: The walk to the centre

We had a very pleasant stay in the Marleen Hotel. We found it very clean and nicely laid out. Rooms were cleaned daily and bedclothes changed every second day. Each room had a balcony aswell
The pool was great, had loads of sun lounger’s aswell! Ended up spending most of our time there even though the beach was 2mins down the road!
The food in the snack bar was lovely and cheap aswell.
The walk in to the main strip is a good 5 mins (and its uphill) that would have been the main thing that annoyed me.
The planes can be heard, I got a fright the first morning but never really noticed it after that!!!
All in all I found this an excellent hotel.

Visited Hotel Marelen from 16th June to 30th.

First time to Greece,& wont be our last. The Hotel was well situated, beach at one end of the road, shops at the other. The hotel was clean, the staff friendly. The owner was walking around every day making sure all was well. We had a two bed apartment, corner, ground floor(406)which was very spacious, no-where to sit really though, only the chairs in the kitchen, but that wasnt really a prob as we were out exploring every day.

The rooms are very hot at night and you have to pay for the air con about £35 a week. We also had lots of wildlife visiting us at night, green tree frogs,& Geckos, wonderful.

The planes were not annoying to us, one of the reasons we booked this hotel was so we could plane spot, the run-way is at the end of the road, they started around 6 in the morning and stopped at 10,fantastic.

We are not sunbathers,so we hired a car(Eurosky rentals,on the left walking up the main strip)for the first week, and went touring,we visited all the beach resorts,& saw some fantastic sights. We hired a Suzuki Jimny jeep the second week and did some rough roads(dirt tracks!!!)what a laugh. You must visit Zakynthos town by day and by night,Brilliant.

We also liked Argassi,visit waves bar,on the sea-front,good food,& staff. Also alykes(nice beach)and Keri beach,very picturesque.

Our favourite restaurant in Kalamaki was Dias, the food was great, the staff very friendly,(Hello Nikos XX Zoe misses you..)

The weather was fantastic(one bad stormy day )after that it was in the 40's,Phew.We had a fantastic holiday,we did so much I could go on & on.

So sad were back)o:Hotel and resort, highly recommended, the people very friendly. We will definitly be returning,to the Hotel Marelen and Kalamaki,.Go....you wont be dissapointed.

We returned from Hotel Marelen yesterday and were generally happy with everything. Kalamaki is a much nicer resort than Laganas which is like Blackpool on a bad day. Worth renting a car/quad or moped to get out and see the island which has much to offer. Avoid the Airtours tours at all costs as they are a rip off and you can do exactly the same tours much cheaper from local tour operators.
Kalamaki beach is lovely - lots of beds available and gorgeous blue sea - no sign of the elusive turtles though!

Booked last minute holiday for £108 (night before) on 'allocation on arrival basis.' Weren't expecting very much but were very pleased with what we got. Staff are very friendly, the hotel has a great location, there is a lovely pool and it is kept really clean (maid service 6 times a week). Would definately go back again.

The beach is a 2 minute walk away and shops, bars and restaurants only 5 minutes away. The island in general is very clean and there are some great places to eat out at very reasonable prices. Airport is 5 minute ride away and although the planes come over really low all flights are stopped at 10pm for the turtles on the nearby beach. Zante is a great resort with something for everyone and the Marelen is sure to please everyone.

Great holiday, being in the flightpath (as mentioned in someone elses report) not really a problem and certainly doesn't interupt your holiday. Yes, Nick & Costas the barmen are brilliant! funny, friendly & entertaining, however other staff could maybe do with taking a leaf out of their book. Hotel & grounds itself..... Lovely, no rush for sunbeds or lengthy waits at bar/food counter etc. few minutes walk to shops/tavernas, which are also nice, kids club has limited places (only 15 places) UNACCEPTABLE! however this is down to airtours not the hotel itself. Lots to see and do on the island which is easy to get around. Have re-booked for this year, just hope airtours will employ more than one member of staff to run kids club so that there is no need for parents turning up and queueing half an hour early to ensure their child is included in the days session. GET A GRIP AIRTOURS! don't put a downer on what is a potentially fantastic holiday.

We found this to be a very good hotel as most in greece are very basic. It was kept very clean. The continental breakfast was more than adequate, you could help yourself to as much as you liked. We are pensioners and it was lovely being so close to the beach and Taverna's. Yes planes did come in very low, but we did not find this a problem at the end of September/ beginning of October, in facy we were quite fascinated . They stopped in the evening so they did not disturb your sleep. A nice long beach with gently shelving sea nice for walking along to Langanas. All in all we enjoyed our holiday, and would think about staying there again.

This is a well-appointed hotel with only one drawback .. but it is HUGe. The airport runway is only 1000M away and the planes fly DIRECTLY over the hotel at a height of approx 200M"!!! You will get NO PEACE WHATSOEVER

I had a fantastic holiday...The staff were excellent, especially the BArmen Nick and Costas..Never make a bet with Nick he ALWAYS WINS!...The hotel was very clean, and the rooms were very nice, alot better that I expected. There was a snack bar which served excellent food, and the hotel in itself is walking distance from all Tavernas, and most importantly, 5 mins up the road is Laganas! Watch out for the barmens dances on the bar......I miss them already, we love you both...C U NEXT YEAR!!!!

The Hotel Marelen is an excelant hotel. The rooms are all kept very clean. The pool and snack bar are truely superb plenty of room around the pool. The Bar area and eating areas are all very spaceious , however evening entertainment is a bit limited. All the staff are exstreamly friendly. I have 3 children and they where more than happy to stay around the pool all day making friends. It really is a good family atmosphere and i would recomend it to anybody, and would certainly revisit the hotel again.
