| said: Club Hotel Riu Club Maspalomas, we stayed here for two weeks over the Easter period, the hotel is always kept clean and the vast majority of the staff are only too pleased to help however, there are one or two members of staff who I would say need to be re-trained in the art of customer relations.
The food as many reviewers have said is of a very high quality, however even on a day to day basis the salads can be very repetitive with little or no variation; the fish on offer for instance in my opinion was not presented as well as could be expected but that’s only my view. The implication from some of the literature is that the specialist meals are of an A La Carte nature this is not the case these too are buffet style. The two main eating areas are capable of accommodating 728 people at any one time, this during our stay was simply not enough, and the problem here is that in one of the two areas are dedicated to Canarian or Andalusian cuisine most of the guests did not want this and opted for the international meals, this is where the problem occurred there were over 1200 people at the hotel over the Easter period and the and it seemed the most of them wanted to eat at about 19:30 – 20:00 some guests were told that they would have to wait upwards of 40 minutes for a table.
The entertainment team is excellent they never stop working all day, there is something for everyone if you want to take part but if all you want to do is simply lazy by the pool then they will not pester you.
Talking of the pool area this again is very crowded, there is a notice that all towels left on unattended sun beds would be removed this was not the case, also that the reserving of sun beds would not be tolerated, this again was not the case some of the guests were reserving beds before 07:00; if you want a sun bed then my advice is get there early.
The mix of nationalities during our stay ranged from the normal mix of Spanish, German and British, but also included French, Belgium, and even Basque, for southern Europe to Scandinavian, Norwegian, Russian guests.
The rooms of the hotel are kept immaculately clean by the maids and they work quickly and efficiently considering the task they have, we are early risers and once the maid was aware that this was the norm for us our room was very often the first on her list to be cleaned.
Overall the hotel is of a good standard, however you need to be aware that all is not what it seems and that things can go slightly amiss; the hotel is give a 4* rating I think this needs not to be taken on face value as some of the facilities are very cramped (i.e. the pool area) but then again the quality of the service from the bar and (99%) of the restaurant staff is very good.
Would we return to this hotel, I think not; but this is a personal view; and would probably not be one held my many,

| said: We spent a week here at half-term and enjoyed it very much. We too were lucky enough to be upgraded to an apartment with a great sea-view. Much better for our son than being on a campbed in with us as we expected. He even had a proper bed in the sitting room, not just a sofabed.
The food was good and suited all of us. Teenager glad to find chips and icecream at every lunch and dinner. I especially liked the roasts carved by a chef at dinnertime. The one part of the food which was a little disappointing was the dessert table. A lovely selection of fresh fruit and cheeses, but little in the way of wicked gateaux to tempt you ! The Spanish do love their 'flan', but unfortunately I do not! The lemon mousse was nice, but one grew weary of it after a few meals.
The big disappointment, though, was the swimming pool(s). The brochure claimed it was heated. Well it certainly did not feel like it was and there were no signs up quoting the temperature like you usually get. So don't go here in winter expecting to be able to swim.
By the way, an earlier review stated there were no loos at the pool. In fact there are, they are at the back of the pool bar.

You can even dine in a specialist restaurant at no extra cost. All of the staff very friendly and keen to help you.
Plenty of bars with the drink measures very generous! You can self serve beer/soft drinks/wine and hot drinks. The hotel is spotless - very well maintained with beautiful grounds and great sea views.
The evening entertainement was good with regular professional acts although the entertainment did finish quite early each night.
We were on our wedding anniversary and were given an apartment with the most amazing sea view.
Would definitely go back.

| said: Well I cannot recommend this hotel enough, we are just came back from an excellent holiday we were 7 adults, 2 kids and a 20 month old, everything from the excellent bar staff, reception and waiters were first class and I work in tourism on the mainland of Spain and I am very critical of everywhere we go!
The waiters in the dinning room came straight over to say hello to the little one with a high chair and a little fork and spoon ready for her and we were treat fabulous even though we spek the language they all spoke a very good level of english.
If you want peace and quiet I can recommend it for your teenagers too as we have a 14 year old and an 11 year old and we never saw them for a week hence never spent a penny on them, all the activities going on day and night, the entertainers were excellent and really work hard for their money say hello to Henar from us!
Negative points:- Nº 1 - WISH WE HAD BOOKED FOR 2 WEEKS as no one wanted to leave the hotel therefore saw absolutely nothing of the island.
Nº 2 I am honestly not biased as I say I work with all nationalities in Spain but some of the germans were extremely rude and think the hotel should be for them alone!
Nº 3 Lack of public toilets in restaurant and pool areas.
Nº 4 The guy who works in the hotel kiosk is pretty ignorant and abrupt so never bought anything from there.
ADVISE Take plenty high factor sun cream we are all really suntanned (I,m burnt) and have got prickly heat the first time in 21 years living in Spain. Hope you enjoy yourselves as much as us.

| said: This is the second time i have stayed at the Riu Gran Canaria and i wil definetely return! Fantastic hotel in all respects, really, really clean and tidy and staff work hard all day making sure that all public areas are kept beautifully. Grounds are gorgeous and are constantly being worked on and pool area is big enough for number of guests.
Rooms made up every day even on sunday and cannot fault the service they provide. Staff on reception are really friendly and helpful, really made us feel welcome at check in and are more than willing to have a laugh and a joke! Restaurant staff are also very friendly and will do anything they can to help and make sure you're enjoying yourself! Very secure hotel as well with security guard on front door and back gate to keep out those not staying at hotel but also nice to see their presence.
Food is fab, i'm a really fussy eater and i find something every day that i liked where as the others in my party couldn't speak highly enough of it! Definetely worth going to the Mexican night which you need a reservation for, and drinks are excellent, not at all watered down as you find in some all-inclusive hotels and also plenty of name brands on offer as can be seen behind the bar and in store-rooms!
Evening entertainment is fab, in many different languages mind but still good fun! Couple of professional acts a week but largely performed by animacion team who work unbelievably hard! Conduct daytime activities, kids club etc throughout the day and perform every night!
Location is fantastic, 5 - 10 minute walk to all shops and restaurants along lovely promenade straight out of back gate of hotel.
Something for every-one whether it be families, couples or friends, as a travel advisor for Thomson i cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and already making plans to go back!

| said: Just got back from a 2 week holiday at the Club Hotel Riu Gran Canaria. We had a great time and are obviously now fed up being back at home. This is the first time we have been to an all inclusive hotel (we usually go half board) and we were impressed, particularly by the standard of the food. The food was as good as some of the 4 star plus half board hotels we have stayed in. We heard some people saying they thought the food was a bit repetative, but I wouldn't agree. There was so much choice you could pick and choose and have something different virtually every night. As well as the international restaurant, you could choose to eat authentic canarian cuisine several nights a week in the adjoining restaurant. Plus themed nights - Mexican and Asian could be booked at the pool bar restaurant several nights a week too. We tried both the Mexican and the Asian nights and the food was great. We found the drinks to be pretty good and didn't notice them to be watered down as somebody has previously suggested. Some branded drinks are available if you ask- just have a peek behind the bar counter and see what you can spot. We didn't bother as we found the locally branded drinks to be just fine. The wine wasn't the greatest but was good enough to have with your meal. Wouldn't have drank it all night though. The cocktails were pretty good - considering they are made in bulk and machine dispensed behind the bar. Some people seemed to be a bit miffed that the cocktails weren't all freshly prepared before your eyes, but lets face it - it is a very busy all inclusive hotel. The cleanliness of our room was excellent. It was great to have fresh pool towels every day too (you just swap them by the pool each morning). The pool itself was great - it was split up into 3 seperate ones, one of which was heated. The jaccuzzis in the middle were fine, but not heated. The reserving of sunbeds was a problem however - the worst I have ever known it in all of my holidays ever! We used to get to the pool for about 8.30 to 9.00am and 90% would be reserved, the remainder of which would be really rubbish ones. We gradually noticed after a while that some people were actually reserving them the night before! In fact some people had even pegged the towels down! The hotel should stick to it's 'no reserving' policy and start removing them. Also, whilst the pool was very clean, the poolside floor was quite grubby & not cleaned so often. We saw some fag buts and dirty straws which hadn't moved during the whole 2 weeks we were there. Just make sure you wear your flip flops to and from the pool, or else your feet will be filthy when you get back to your lounger. The terrace around the pool is rather extensive but still no excuse . Evening entertainment ok. The Animacion team obviously worked very hard. Staff were generally pretty friendly although some far more than others. The niceset staff were in the main restaurants, and were particulary good with my daughter who is two. Staff did seem to prefer the German clientel, perhaps as they are by far in the majority. This could be annoying at times, especially as many of the Germans (but to be fair not all) seemed to have left their manners at home. I would say that this is typical of most hotels we have stayed in though - particularly in Gran Canaria. The location of this hotel is very good. It is in an upmarket area. The surrounding hotels are all 4 star upwards. The promenade is lovely. A 15 minute walk out of the back gate (turn left) takes you past lots of shops, some of which are quite swanky, past a lovely lighthouse and straight to Maspalomas beach. I wouldn't bother turning right out of the gate as not much there. Overall fantastic holiday, just let down by a few minor things as mentioned above. We would consider a return visit in the future.

| said: We could not fault the cleanliness of the hotel in all respects. The staff were more than friendly, and could not do enough to please us. Our 2 year old grandaughter made many amigos among the restaurant staff!
We asked for and were given a room upgrade to one of the self catering apartments past the pool, which was lovely, enabling us to have a separate lounge area.Food excellent, but slightly boring and "sameish" after two weeks. Would we go back - NO, simply because of the sunbeds. They ask you NOT to reserve beds, but we are sure that many of the German?Dutch tourists left towels overnight. It was a nightmare. I had to go out at 7.30am to reserve beds near the shallow end for our grandaughter, which spoilt it somewhat. We have previously visited the Riu Vistamar in Amadores on several occasions, and they were HOT on removing any towels left on beds before 9am.Entertanment geared to the German/Dutch contingencies.

Stunning hotel to look at, food was the best, location was ok, entertainment was good but a but repetitive.
Only problem we came across and I always thought this was a rumour that people actually reserve sunbeds but its true.
This is this first time I have ever witnessed this but people were going down at 4am to save there seats so by the time we got down which would be at 9am they were all taken and the seats would stay empty until they decided to come down at 11am.
Lovely hotel, good place to stay if you want to get away from the British but not for us.

| said: we have just returned from 2 fantastic weeks in gran canaria.
the hotel itself is spotlessley clean, the food is fantastic. theres so much choice, there must be at least 10 different desserts to choice from in the evening alone...
the location of this hotel is in the resort of melonares, which is very upmarket and has 4 and 5 star hotels only.
the promenade is beautiful, which runs along the back of the hotels. there are lovely bars and restaurants and wonderful shops(mostly designer), it was lovely to walk out at night and sit in a bar overlooking the sea.
the staff are extremley friendly but on the down side, the entertainment does not come up to scratch for a 4star hotel. we only saw 2 proffesional acts in the 2 weeks we stayed. the animation team are the entertainment and to be honest it was poor....
so thank goodness for the bars along the promenade..
the only gripe i would have about this hotel is, you have to get up at 7am to get a sun bed arond the pool areas. if you are any later than 8-8.30am, you probably won`t get a sun bed at all!!!!!

The staff were very friendly and the reception staff all spoke excellent English.
We stayed in a garden view room which was definately worth the extra money. We had an uninterrupted view across the garden to the pool and the sea.
The food was plentiful and always hot/cold as required but did get a bit repetitive. Some more variation in the fresh fruit for dessert would have been good. Being all inclusive the soft drinks and wine were on tap which was an excellent idea.
The entertainment team were great fun and very persuasive but not pushy.
All in all a very, very enjoyable holiday with excellent facilities and excellent weather.

| said: Just arrived home after two fabulous weeks in hotel. On entering reception was very welcoming.
We booked a garden view room well worth the extra.
Food was different every evening with at least 4 or 5 hot main choices, we took a child of 2 and maitre de carlos rang our room to ask if any special food was req for baby as they would make sure it was available.
Every area of this hotel was spotlessly clean day and night.
Lovely promenade outside to walk to a shopping mall!
Only one downside we need more English to go to this hotel as only 50 English to 900 Germans and at times they were quite rude in the queing system!
The entertainment team are one of the hardest working team I have seen to work day and night some shows not everyone's taste but if not there are plenty seating areas outside and in reception to enjoy.

| said: I stayed at this hotel with my girlfriend and my parents based on the reviews we read on this website.
The room was tidy and clean with air con and a ceiling fan, plenty of wardrobe space and comfortable beds. Although each morning we did find ants crawling around our sink and on two occasions cockroaches, whether this was due to being on the ground floor I'm not sure. Any drinks left lying around in glasses would soon be infested with small bugs. The shower/bath was good apart from being very slippery, my mother had fallen in hers and was badly bruised, she complained and a shower mat was provided for her.
I thought the food was average, a good selection but now and again the rice would be crunchy or the pasta overcooked. My girlfriend found bugs in her brocolli which was removed after she complained.
The bars were good, with excellent service but the beer was a local brand and the spirits were cheap alternatives to name brands.
The location of the hotel was a bit far from any nightlife (cab ride into playa del ingles). Beaches were a short walk away along a beautiful promenade with a supermarket and shops along the way.
Hotel staff were freindly and always helpful.
Entertainment was poor, out of the eleven nights we had maybe 3 nights we enjoyed. Although the german guests seemed to love everynight. Daytime entertainment was good, always something to take part in everyday no matter what age you are.
The swimming pools were lovely with plenty of sunbeds and sun brolleys.
Would I visit again? No, it's a good hotel and I had a lovely time, but I've stayed in better 4 star hotels.

| said: Beautiful hotel with fantastic views. Although because of its cliff top location and our two children aged 3 & 1 this meant going for walks with pram was a bit of a nightmare as the terrain was hilly to say the least. Also pools which were on the whole lovely were not great for small children as childrens pool is very small and separate to the main - but with no sunbeds nearby - so you cannot watch them as sunbathing. Bigger pools did not have steps you could walk into which would have given alot more shallow.
Hotel was on the posher side which was very nice, very few if any 'undesirables'. Lots of Europeans which was fine as they dont talk to you anyway! But this did mean the entertainment was multi-lingual so you come home being able to say 'welcome to tongiths entertainment in 6 different languages - which does grate a bit by the end, but entertainment itself was very good, staff very talented, give it their all, soemthing for everyone.
Kids club great, really look after them and they really enjoy it. Loads of activities for adults throughout the day to. Get up early for best sunbeds, they chuck off the towels at 8.45am before pool opens at 9 which is no bad thing.
Maids were superclean taking approx 45-1hr every day per room, thorough scrub, but still did see odd cockroach but think you do anywhere in canaries from what I hear and they really did keep everything spotless, even mopping concrete around the pool where people put their drinks during the day!
Staff really polite, really tried to make everyone feel special, particularly good to those with children. Food was absolutely fantastic, we were not bored by the end of two weeks there, so much choice, everyday, anyone with fussy kids would not have a problem. Drinks on tap apart from pool bar does not open until 10 not even for soft drinks so you have to get them with your breakfast and closed at 6pm - not to reopen til 9pm, which is a little annoying if you do not want to watch the entertainment (which is all inside) as you have to keep going down lifts/stairs everytime you want a drink.
Bottled water, as much as you want for your fridge in room, which is great. Good power showers in room, always had hot water.
Overall fantastic holiday, would definately like to go again when the children are older and going for walks to get them asleep has finished.

| said: From the moment we arrived we were really impressed with the hotel and the resort. The hotel is set within a row of four stunning hotels which are 4 and 5 star hotels and look very impressive. At either end of the row of hotels are two very classy shopping areas full of designer shops. You can easily access these shops via a promenade which runs next to the sea outside the rear of all the hotels - the sea isnt accessible from here. There is a small shingle beach to one end of the promenade and to the other end of the promenade is the lighthouse, which pinpoints the start of the Maspolomas sand dunes and a lovely long stretch of beach (nudist at the far end!). It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the dunes.
On arrival we were greeted warmly, given mineral water and our cases were taken straight to our room and we were telephoned to check we were happy with our room etc.
The hotel is very clean throughout and all of the staff are very friendly. The hotel bedrooms are large and spacious with a free safety deposit box and mini fridge and were kept spotlessly clean with frequent linen changes and daily towel changes.
All inclusive was superb - easy access to soft drinks, beer, wine etc - this was also the case in the restaurants. The food was fantastic - lots and lots of variety and was plentiful whatever time you ate - no set times to eat unless you booked a table at the select restaurant which served Japanese some nights and Mexican others. At peak times the restaurants got quite busy and some holiday makers could be quite rude - pushing etc.
Hotel provided pool towels that could be changed daily. The pool area was very attractive - set in gardens with a huge amount of sunbeds and parasols but in order to have an actual poolside sunbed (important if you have to keep an eye on children swimming) you had to be up at about 7am to get one!!
The hotel was truly international and there were quite a few Spanish, Italian, French and a great many German holiday makers there. In our first few days there were hardly any other British people but as the holiday progessed this altered and our 8 yr old son soon made several friends.
The entertainment team tried very hard and were kept very busy. There was always something going on during the day - somedays it was very busy/noisey around the pool with aerobics or water polo etc. The children were well catered for but were allowed to come and go as they pleased from the childrens club (not okay if youve very young children), they had early evening entertainment for the children as well. The evening entertainment was well thought out and a mixture of in-house shows and professional shows - we only caught two performances and they were very good.
0verall we were very impressed and would definitely visit this hotel again.

The room was cleaned everyday and their was not one sign of the normal cockroach or ants. The RUI Hotel provided safe keys and ample room for sitting at the 2 buffet restraunts which had varied selection of cold and cooked foods. It was nice to see the food cooked to order.
Beware that you have to get up ealry if you want prime spots at the swimming pool, which again was of a high stanrad of cleanliness. Additionally you were a minute away from 2 snack bar areas which served drinks and cakes on tap. Loads for the kids to do with Tennis courts, games room and gym.

The resort used to be classed as Maspalomas, but is now its own little resort. It is very upmarket and there are some fabulous hotels nearby. Riu Gran Canaria was one of them. I have no complaints at all about the hotel.
We went on our honeymoon with our 7 month old son and the staff were so friendly. The waiters/waitresses knew our sons name and always came up to us.
The food is unbelievable. Something for everyone. The salad bar is huge! They had pizza/chips for kids who are fussy and then a huge range of different meals. Apparently if you stay for 2 weeks, you never have the same meal twice. I drink Baileys and it was proper Baileys not the cheap stuff. Lots of wine and beer, also cocktails that you can try. Breakfast was fantastic. Full English, croissants, tea, coffee - the works. I ate so much!!!
We took a taxi into Puerto Rico for the day which cost us 17 euros (about 12 quid). This was a nice day out and it was 30 degrees. It is always 4 or 5 degrees hotter there. Temperatures ranged from 18 degrees to 25 degrees. One day was very cloudy and a bit chilly, but we had 2 glorious days of pure sun.
Would definitely visit again.

| said: The food was varied and to an excellent standard. The mexican and asian menus at the Las Brisas restaurant were very good. You never queued in any of the restaurants on any occasion. The special menus served on Xmas day and New Years eve were great.
The Animacion team that provided most of the entertainment, both during the day and in the evening were enthusiastic and very entertaining.
The Best Animacion team we have ever seen. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Security was strict.
There is a very good , up market , shopping complex only 3 minute walk away , with "designer" shops just outside.
We will definitely be returning to this hotel.

| said: This is a completely all inclusive hotel, no hidden extras, you could even collect a bottle of water from reception for you room whenever you required it.
Drinks were not only "local", We enjoyed the Beafeater Gin!
The food was excellent my only complaint was that I ate too much of it and couldn't help mixing foods because it was so nice. Breakfast was fantastic. I think if I had of stayed for two weeks it would have all got a bit too much.
The cleanliness of the hotel is 5*.
Location great, only 30 mins from the airport. There is a lovely walk down to the sand dunes in Maspolomas and some really nice designer shops on the way.
We could not fault the staff, each and everyone we dealt with was very pleasant and polite and nothing was too much trouble.
Ok the entertainment was not brilliant but the young people tried their best and they played out the phantom of the opera brilliantly. The same young people who performed in the evenings also entertained the children during the day and they did a brilliant job.
Our 12 year old son had a fantastic time playing football, volleyball etc.

| said: This is one of the best hotels that we have ever stayed at, it is set in beautiful grounds with flowers and cactus and grass everywhere. The main entrance is made from marble and is air conditioned as is most of the hotel.
We had interconnecting rooms, all rooms are spacious with lots of room in the wardrobes, drawers etc, the air conditioning is wonderful as it is very hot out there. There was a fridge, hairdryer in the room as well as a TV which had a few German channels and CNN Euro Sport and BBC News.
The Pool area is vast it is one large pool split into three with 2 Jacuzzis - there are plenty of sunbeds with cushions and also loads of parasols which you will need as it is very hot in the afternoon.
The food is excellent catering for every need - all the drinks are brand names and plentiful.
The only thing that let the hotel down slightly was the evening entertainment. The animation team put on a "Show" which is basically adults dancing and miming to songs which can be slightly tedious. As this is an all inclusive hotel there is not a lot to keep you on site of an evening. There is a small disco called Kiss which was used mostly by the teenagers and is open till 1.30am but it is located out behind the pool area so you are not disturbed by any noise
