| said: Transport to and from hotel
We pre-booked a small car from Eurpcar for our holiday and even though we paid a second additional insurance for the excess to be wavered in the event of an accident, we were still offered a third additional insurance to cover the car interior and under body. We were told at the airport that this car was an upgrade, but it had obviously seen better days, nevertheless it never gave up on us.
All inclusive and (AI) all inclusive light (AIL)
The web page for this hotel remained unchanged from our last visit, it only advertises an AI option.
We were informed by the holiday provider (Holiday Hypermarket) that we would be AI
On arival, we were given wrist bands appropriate to AIL by the receptionist. We upgraded the day after arrival to full AI at £5 per head.
Lack of clarity was vividly commented upon by other holiday providers.
Initial impression
The hotel looked clean tidy with plenty of grounds. The reception, lounge, shops, bar, entertainments area and coffee shop were all in one large area which reached up to the second floors. The area was tiled.
The bar opened internally into the main hall and externally onto a large patio. Grounds were expansive and well kept. Children’s and adult game furniture were placed within the grounds.
The swimming pool was broken up by a bridge, fountain etc.
We were hastened through the check in procedure. On this occasion all they were focused upon was that our signatures were made on the appropriate areas.
Accommodation
We were given a room on the mezzanine floor, which overlooked the main hall. Our room was one of a series on the mezzanine, some of the mezzanine was covered by one pane of glass and there appeared to be a second mezzanine above us.
During the holiday our ability to sleep was dictated by the people in the bar. those returning late at night and the maids cleaning first thing in the morning. Solid walls in the main hall ensured excellent acoustics, the ability of our bedroom door to stop this noise was as good as the proverbial chocolate fireguard.
We asked to be moved on the first night, but were told that we would have to see the manager the following afternoon. First meeting with the manager seemed favourable with a suggestion that we would be moved, but we would have to come back the next day. We dutifully returned the next day only to be told the hotel was full and that we would have to stay put.
No evidence was given as to the decision making process, I believe that the hotel was and had always had been full, someone had to put up with these rooms, it may just as well be us.
An unwelcome complaint from the entertainments manager that the entertainment had to finish early due to complaints from holidaymakers suggested that others were in the same position as us . Irrespective of what entertainment was taking place, the noise remained until the last person left the bar and lounge area.
Food
Breakfast, lunch and diner took place in the main restaurant. There was a “themed” menu every night, the Cypriot night was good, but other international dishes are best experienced at appropriate restaurants. The restaurant was busier late morning and early evening.
I suffered from acute food poisoning on the Wednesday, which can only be attributable to the food I eat at the hotel, it was over 40 hrs since I eat elsewhere. It took 4 days for this to pass through my system.
Drinks
Drinks were served from the main bar by competent and efficient staff. The pool bar and coffee bar never opened.
Entertainment and amenities
No different to normal hotel entertainment. Warm enough to use the outdoor pool.
CONCLUSION
Would I go back to a Horizon Crown Resort Hotel again, the answer will be never.

| said: I agree with a lot of the other reviews of this hotel regarding the food, it was tepid on most nights, poor quality fatty meat, i ended up with fish fingers and cold chips on Saturday night, not what i expected from a supposed 4*. The pool was lovely and clean animation team worked very hard with only 1 day off per week, 1 or 2 of the bar staff friendly. We went all inclusive to find on arrival we were on AI light so it cost 153 euros to upgrade as the cost of drinks in hotel would have cost more for the duration.
The room was reasonable size, towels changed regularly All in all the hotel itself was very nice but felt very let down by the food.

| said: Hi Would not retunr to this hotel . Very often read these reviews and think are the hotels really that bad .....yep.
1)The bathroom was ropey and towels had holes and frayed edges to them . The rooms had hangers for trousers only . lived out of case for the week.
2)If you are used to normal all inclusive - youll be dissapointed . Because this hotel does various board types ,if you want a sandwich out of the designated time ( an hour before main meal) then youll have to pay . Also drinks are limited . My mother that does not drink alcahole also found it hard to find a drink that was not a kids drink so settled for coke.
Also the staff serve the paying guests first even if they thay turn up after you have been waiting 10 minutes to be served.
3) The brakfast is ok . The luch is last nights dinner. dinner is last nights dinner served differently ie last nights liver salad , todays liver pate. It is so obvious. Also the head waiter just shouts his other waiters and you if you dont move fast enough when he wants to serve you . Be warned on there website they say they serve sandwiches between 2 and 3 (which would be a welcome change from the repetative food) but they do not honour this they are served from 5 til 6 and hour before dinner!
4) Entertainment is not that great or bad. You are on main road if prefer to goto local bar for the evening.
I would not return to this hotel. But must say they had 1 really nice bar man on 3 evenings and the guy doing the pool bar was really great as well....he did not expect every person to have to queue for their own drinks as some did at the main bar .....very silly !

| said: The hotel is set in pleasant gardens with plenty of sun-loungers. There was an excellent gym in the basement spa area, also a small indoor pool.
We had a 3rd floor room with a mountain view. The room was fine, with a small but private balcony, and was kept very clean, with fresh towels every day and sheets changed every other day. The bathroom could have been better, as the hairdryer was falling to bits and the hand-held shower didn’t work very well.
We used the kettle in the room, but bought our own tea bags and milk as we didn’t want to pay CP2.50 per day each for the hotel to provide these. There was often a smell of sewage which I think came from the hotel’s septic tank.
We had read the previous reviews on this hotel and have to agree with the negative comments about the food. There was very little choice at dinner, and often the food was not well cooked and didn’t seem fresh. Some of the staff (the junior ones) were pleasant and helpful, but the managers seemed to have an attitude problem – we were frog-marched to our dinner table each evening, and woe betide anyone who turned up in jeans!
Overall, I would not class this as a 4* hotel and will not be going back

| said: Having read the previous reviews I was a bit concerned, but arrived with an open mind as different people have different expectations. However, I found all the other negative comments to be well founded. The hotel itself was well appointed, excellent bedrooms, good sized communal rooms, a decent pool and very clean. A real shame that it didn't live up to it's surface image.
The food was usually cold, unimaginative and repetitive. Having gone all inclusive, the lunches were totally inappropriate - who wants a heavy meal in 30 degree temperatures? The few salad items that were provided looked as if they had been there for days and used ingredients I would have rejected in my supermarket (brown edged lettuce, over-ripe tomatoes etc). The evening meals were always luke warm, poor quality ingredients, and the same things most evenings. And the restrictions on the all inclusive choices were never explained, and they seemed to change according to who you spoke to, so maybe even the staff didn't understand! The head waiter wouldn't have been out of place as a prison warder and a couple of the bar staff never managed to raise a smile in the 2 weeks I was there. Saying that, a couple of the bar/waiting staff were excellent - shame they all couldn't have been like them. The staff at the reception were equally as unhelpful and miserable. The entertainment was typical of resort hotels, fire juggling, magic shows and some truly dreadful cypriot music!
The location was OK if you wanted some shops within a couple of minutes, but as Coral Bay is a purpose built resort, there was no atmosphere. I could have been in any resort. There was a good bus service into Paphos, cost 80 cents, very reasonable.
The only other comment is that the beach is far further than the 200-300 yds stated in the brochures, OK going down, but an uncomfortable 15 minute hike uphill going back to the hotel.
Certainly not one of the best hotels I have stayed in recently, certainly not deserving of the 4 star category and certainly not one I would recommend. In fact everyone I spoke to said they would not be going back.

We found the food to be excellent with plenty of choice as it was a buffet style. The hotel could not be faulted on cleanliness our room was cleaned and the sheets were changed twice. Hotel staff were very friendly and polite.
The location was the Coral Bay area of Paphos, local buses to Paphos Harbour every 15 mins and very cheap.
We would definitely go back. There was limited entertainment most nights.

| said: Well when I visited this hotel I enjoyed it thorougly. The staff were very pleasant, and came and spoke to me often. The breakfast was delightful, but the evening meals weren't very varied and were just foods that I did not like. There was only certain meals, and no second choices. Some people there may have been vegetarians or vegans, and most of the food consisted of meat.
I don't really like many foreign foods, and the whole menu was basically Indian, Chinese, Greek, French and a whole bunch of other types of foods. The only food that I was used to and liked were chips and nuggets. (Not very healthy)
After about the 4th day I was sick of the sight of chips and nuggets.
The location was ideal, about a 5 minute walk to the beach. The beach was delightful.
There was hardly any entertainment.
Although when we first arrived, the bathrooms water supply was faulty, as the taps wouldn't turn off, the shower would run scolding hot, and then ice cold. The toilet flooded after every flush. And the sink would clog.
After a complaint that we made, we were moved to another room, a better room on the third floor with a splendid view of the beach and water.
Although there was a bit of noise outside which couldn't be stopped, and a few drunken holiday makers outside at night shouting and arguing. It wasn't my best holiday, but I would probably visit this hotel again. But maybe as a self-catering.

| said: Chose this hotel after a friend told me that Coral Bay is a lovely area.
Hotel is an excellent location short walk downhill to the beach. We had a seaview room so we were at the front of the hotel but even having the balcony door open the noise from the strip of bars and resterants did not bother us at all.
The hotel was very clean but some evenings there was a smell like sewage. The food was always cooked well and unlike some buffets it wasnt sitting for ages and was replenished frequently, The only bad points on the food front were that there wasnt always much for the vegetarians. The staff were friendly and always said hello some of the staff in the restaurant were sometimes slightly rude.
The entertainment was good for a hotel, didnt see it everynight but there was a good selection.

| said: We arrived late and missed the last sitting for food. (If this happens, go through the gardens to the strip of shops good assortment of restaurants to the left of the garden gate).
There is an offer of a day trip to Egypt for about £100per person (& Worth budgeting for)
Entertainment is ok but limited and is finished by 11pm you may what to take some bar games/ cards to whist away the evening.
There is a frequent and cheap bus service that runs to Phaphos at the end of the garden.
Only down side is the outdoor pool is very cold.

| said: Arrived about 10pm so had missed evening meal but we were given a meal voucher for lunch during our stay. Check in was quick and efficient. Reception area clean and attractive with sofas dotted around and a T.V area with comfy seats. Next to that was a "Cocktail Bar". Two computers with internet access (50cents for 8 minutes and definitely not broadband! - soon eats up your money). Also on ground floor was the Crown restaurant where breakfast and dinner was served. You could also eat al fresco adjacent to the restaurant which we did the majority of the time. On the Mezzanine floor was another T.V room. There was bar outside where we ate lunch and drinks were served all day.
Our room was a decent size with a sofa bed for my son which we folded away during the day. A T.V showing several channels but only Sky News and CNN in English. Bathroom was a nicely decorated and very clean. The maid cleaned every day - fresh towels if you needed them and linen was changed every other day. We had a lovely view over the pool and the bay.
Food was very good. Heaps of choice at breakfast including low fat options. Different theme for dinner each night. On the odd occasion I didn't find a hot choice to my liking I opted for the salad which was plentiful.
The hotel is located at the end of a "strip" of shops and restaurants not more that a few hundred metres long and you could simply walk through the gardens to the reach it. The staff at the hotel always had a smile on their face and were very helpful.
Entertainment was the usual Hotel fare. A "fakir" show (fire eating and walking on glass etc), Greek dancing, singers etc. The best was the magician, a Scottish man, who was very good and got a few people up to help him and a group of dancers who danced a mixture of styles and were certainly the most popular act of the week.
The pool area is lovely and well designed with a separate children's pool and swim up pool bar. The only down side was the usual problem of sunbed reserving. My father, who is always an early riser, was on his balcony at 6am one morning and witnessed people putting towels on beds!!
That little gripe aside I would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing break.

Staff were nice and friendly always polite. Some couldn't speak good English, but come on we are in a foreign country we don't try to learn their language - but we always managed to get what we wanted. Wouldn't disagree with it's 4 **** rating -have had plenty of other good holidays but this rates as one of the best relaxing holidays we have had. Plenty of sunbeds around the large pool and garden area.
Cannot fault this hotel and location at all.

| said: This hotel is not a 4 star just an average 3 star.
The rooms are ok but only for 2 persons. The bathroom was tiny, the balcony was the smallest I have seen and at times you got this horrible smell around the hotel.
Air con in the bedroom was good but in reception and restaurant it was turned off, so at meal times a lot of guests would eat on the terrace.
The staff are young and I would say not trained properly. A waiter one night overfilled my wine glass spilling onto the tablecloth, which was never changed, and they were very slow to clear used plates from tables and when they did they would drop cutlery.
Pool area was crowded mainly because of the shape, and not very deep. Large grass area away from the pool to sunbathe.
You pay for the safe, mini bar, tea-coffee and pool towels.sunbeds were damaged and parasols.
I will not be staying at this hotel again and have told my friends not use it.

| said: Right in the heart of the small resort of Coral Bay with a selection of shops, bars and restaurants a stones throw away.
Despite this the hotel was very quiet with no noise.
Hotel spotless with good maid service daily and clean towels daily. Air conditioning avaliable but only needed to use it a couple of times despite it being very hot outside.
My only and main gripe is that although there is a fridge in the room, it is locked and you can only use it if you pay for the mini bar, which is not cheap and even if you do pay for it you can't keep your own drinks in it.
Entertainment Ok, much the same as any hotel! Food pretty good but quite a poor choice. I love fruit and found that it was melon and kiwi every evening when usually you get a great selection of fruit.
The chef regulary does bread and butter pudding, apple pie and custard which was superb!!!
Main resort of Paphos a short, cheap bus ride away and bus stops right outside hotels beautiful gardens.
Pool area nice but smaller than it looks in brochure. To get a sunbed round the pool you have to be up very early, however there was never a problem finding sunbeds or umbrellas in the gardens.
