| said: I thought this hotel was in fantastic location, it wasnt the best presented but it was perfect fr what we paid.
It was basic but what do you expect or a two star??? staff were Fantastic loved them, made me want to go back to the hotel after tea time. we were self catering, but the staff gave us all a free buffet night because the wetaher had been so terrible.
All we had to pay for was drinks! It as fab! pool was huge. and the only complaint i had was the weather but that isnt the hotels fault. Loved it and im booking again for this year. don't doubt this htel one little bit, its just fab, basic and clean. Loved it. Definitely boking again!!!

| said: I have not actually visited the Alexander studios, my reason to which I will explain, however this is a WARNING to any one wishing to book a holiday to the Alexander apartments.
Last week (approximately 4 weeks before our holiday to the Alexander studios was due to begin) we received a letter informing us that we had been moved to a hotel in Kalamaki as the hotel had over booked!! Obviously you can understand we were not happy about this as it was a family resort and approx 30 minutes away from Laganas‘ nightlife.
From here our options were limited, we either moved to Kalamaki or accepted a full refund, deposit included.
A group of 4 18 year olds looking for good nightlife don’t want to be moved to a "quieter family resort" or have to pay for taxis every night to get into Laganas. So we decided to take the refund, however we got our holiday very cheap (£400 pp for 2 weeks) mainly due to our early booking (November time) and we realised that we were not going to find anything of the same quality, at the same price, in the same area at the same time of year (July)! Luckily we found (on the internet) a 2 week holiday in Laganas for £409 (pp for 2 weeks) which isn’t much more considering how late we booked, however it is only a 2* instead of the original 3* and it was SC instead of B&B, so not of the same quality or value.
Also after the holiday me and one of my friends planned to go straight from Zante to Malia (as we went on holiday there last yr and enjoyed it) to look for a job and spend the summer over there, 2 days before the letter arrived from Sunset me and my friend booked our flights and accommodation for Malia, incurring more costs and upset as now it is looking unlikely that we will be able to go to Malia for the summer. This is the last thing we wanted through the stressful period of revising for A - levels and this summer was the main thing motivating me to revise and also in our weeks half term holiday I’ve got no revision done because we‘ve been trying to sort out our holiday!
Since then I have heard another story of the same nature about the Alexander only this time the tourists had arrived in Zante only to be moved to Kalamaki, it turned out to be 4 days before the date we were due to depart!! It seems very coincidental to me that this has happened to 2 people (that I‘ve heard of) at the same time of year, it seems like a money making issue to me whereby customers are left with no alternative options but to put up and shut up or fork out more money. What you’ve got to ask yourself is could it be you and is it worth it?
Obviously like i said I’ve never been to the apartments and they may be very nice but be warned!! Is it really worth the risk of losing your holiday a few weeks before your departure date?? Or even arriving there only to be moved, you don’t want this inconvenience when you’ve booked and paid for your holiday (especially if you‘ve booked it as early as us). If i was somebody planning to book a holiday here i would be very wary and perhaps look for other cheap deals in similar accommodation before jumping into booking this hotel, trust me its really not worth the stress, the owner seems like a con artist to me!! Up to you but like i said be warned!
May I also add that the holiday was booked at Thomas Cook and they did very little to help. Will not be booking with them again!!!
I hope that my experience has helped people decide on where to spend there holiday, don’t let this man get away with it! Don’t be fooled!!

| said: When arriving at Alexander Apartments we were very pleased with the standard of our room. On the whole it was very clean an spacious. However there was a problem with our lock on the door but there was a hotel handyman to quickly sort that out for us! Rooms were cleaned everyday, including bedsheets changed and fresh towels. Not bad!
There were 3 pools to choose from however we tended to stick to the main one which played decent music an was very large. We never had problems with sunloungers, there was always enough to go round an also with there being 6 of us we always managed to sit together.
The food an drinks prices were reasonable an a happy hour is available between 8pm an 9pm in which all drinks are cheaper. On a night there was a disco in the bar in which the music was very good an it was always good to have a drink before you went out and when you came in! The Bar Didnt shut till 7am.
The staff were very friendly an you always mentioned to have a laugh with the barmen, especially one who we nicknamed dave!
Hotel very close to the main strip an beach, however the beach isnt too nice! There is a free bus though to st.nicholas's beach everyday apart from sundays. (This beach is gorgeous!)
Nightclubs were fantastic, however best to drink elsewhere as they are very expensive! Would strongly recommend Zero's an rescue!
On the whole a fantastic holiday!!

| said: Before staying in this hotel last August, I was dreading the idea of going to Greece after alot of bad reports. However, it was one of the best holidays me n my mates have had!
The hotel IS basic but has air-conditioning throughout, a little shop indoors to buy papers, snacks, cameras, sun creams & aftersun and souvenirs e.t.c. It has games rooms.
The bar is open while 7am so there's always a drink available and music playing, (however they do turn the music down after 1, so it's not too loud!). There's a room to the back of the pub where you can leave all your luggage and sit comfortably on leather sofas whilst your waiting to depart home. There is a pool bar which does everything you can think of, there's a pool entertainer who plays games like 'water polo' and darts e.t.c with guests to encourage getting out of the sun in hottest times of the day.
This hotel is pretty basic but I never had complaints of it being un-clean at all!
Location is fantastic, as it's just around the corner to main strip and side street shops.
There's a laundrette on the way to the beach which is cheap and very good.

It was the best holiday ever, the hotel was brilliant.....clean rooms, great staff, fantastic atmosphere and a bar that opened until about 7.00 am! We enjoyed it so much in zante that we decided to stay on an extra week, unfortunately there wasnt any room in the Alexander so we had to change accomodation.
Anyway, we was so impressed with our stay that we are going back on the 28th of june 2007, cant wait!
If your young and up for some good fun then I really do reccomend this hotel.

| said: Me and my boyfriend stayed at this hotel on the 23rd of July 2005. We had never been to Zante before but out first impression was very good.
The Alexander hotel was clean and in the brochure it only printed a picture of a small pool and the front of the hotel. When we got there we discovered that the Alexander hotel has a massive pool area at the back of the hotel which was great, always had a lot of sun loungers.
The hotel was quite noisy although we were out most of the night anyway so it didn't really bother us.
The location is great. About a 5 minute walk from the main strip with all the bars, clubs and eating places. You can exchange money at the reception and hire a fridge and pay for air conditioning (not a lot) The hotel has a disco at night which plays good music and is alright to have a drink at before heading out. There is also a games room with pool tables etc.
We stayed bed and breakfast although we never got up for breakfast. The pool bar serves snacks and there is a cafe called Tweety's right across from the hotel which does great breakfasts and beans n toast etc. There is also a place called Fatso's just round the corner which does buffet breakfasts etc which is also quite good.
We loved Zante and would definitely go back, we wouldn't have any problem staying at the Alexander Hotel again.

| said: We went on our summer holidays on 24th July 2005 for what we thought would be a relaxing holiday in the sun we stayed at the ALEXANDER HOTEL on a bed and breakfast basis.
The hotel was a sheer and utter disgrace I wouldn't have let a dog live in there let alone eat in there.
The staff didn't care about the holiday makers all they were interested in was MONEY MONEY MONEY.
The swimming pools were disgusting the steps leading down into the pools were broken, covered in lime scale, slime, it was absolutely disgusting.
The reps were never available they were a useless waste of space. Sunset reps need adequate training before been given the jobs ion the first place.
The hotel wasn't even a 1 star and talk about filthy I wouldn't have given it a 1 star rating the food was disgusting.
The hotel staff were shocking and the evening entertainment was shocking the disco and barbecue were rubbish and the fakia show was not worth one pence of your money.
I would never ever visit this hotel ever again and would advise people especially couples and families to think before they booked up to stay at the ALEXANDER HOTEL

The entertainment was great and most of all the staff made our holiday, they were hilariously funny, extremely friendly and would do anything for you and made you feel right at home, so much that I didnt want to leave.
The staff who were the loveliest were Vangelis, Polis and Timi, they were never in a bad mood and always had you in stitches of laughter.
The food at the hotel was also delicious and they were serving from early in the morning until the evening and was always of a high standard.
The location was perfect, it was ten minutes away from the beach and about five minutes away from the restaurants bars and clubs and was just a bus ride away from Zante town.
I loved every minute in the hotel.

Rooms were cleaned every day and the hotel staff were fantastic! Mike the entertainer is a good laugh and a great guy.
The hotel is in an excellent location only 5 mins from the beach and 5-10 mins from the main strip. The pools were very clean and really big.

The drinks in the bar were also well worth it. 3 euros 50 for a cocktail. Then during happy hour down to 2 euros. The hotel was 5 minutes away from the beach and it was also situated right next to a long strip of restaurants, bars and clubs.
Perfect location.
The staff were great. Van and jimmy (barmen) were absolutely great. Made the holiday well worth it on their own. They were really entertaining when behind the bar. They were really friendly, always happy to help and looked like they enjoyed it.
The pools were clean and there were plenty of sun beds to use. i've already planned to come back to zante next year and Hotel Alexander is a good possibility of where I might stay.

| said: On the 20th August 2004 I traveled as part of a Sunset package holiday with Thomas Cook to the Hotel Alexander in Laganas, Zakynthos (Zante). On arrival we were appalled at the inadequate service we received and the general standard of the hotel. After the long flight we were faced with a queue to check in. After 30 minutes we were shown along corridors which resembled a prison wing to our room. After struggling with the lock to open the room we were confronted with the dark and dingy prison like cell. The ground floor room opened out on to a patio area which overlooked broken fences, rubble and unused building materials. Security was inadequate and we were forced to keep the doors closed at all times in fear of burglary.
The kitchenette was greasy, unhygienic and nauseating. The draws had rotting crumbs and the work surfaces were not fit to prepare dog food on. The bathroom was also substandard and the drains really smelt. Also the television did not work, the floors were not properly cleaned, the wardrobe smelt too musty to put our clothes in. The room was only catering for two people as there were only two outside chairs and two bath towels.
During a walk around the hotel I saw the swimming pool was dirty and the edges were covered with litter. The staff were generally not very helpful.
We complained persistently to our rep and we were told that we could be moved to another hotel for an additional fee. We asked the representative for a price as we were not willing to stay in the hotel for any longer than was necessary. After phoning the headquarters the rep told us we could move free of charge to another hotel.
During our holiday at the second hotel we were told that we would have to vacate our rooms at noon on the 26th August in advance of our 7am return flight on the 27th August resulting in another day of our holiday being lost. Apparently this is Sunset holidays policy!
Basically if you don’t have any standards you might like it. If we didn’t change hotel it would have definitely been a holiday from hell!

There is a lot of noise due to banging doors, children running around, and groups of people returning to the hotel after a session on the lash! when we stayed at the hotel we simply took ear plugs, and no noise!!! please take this as a true representation of the hotel, as its no where near as bad as some people make out.

| said: The hotel is large and as far as Greece goes on par with other hotels. However, we booked alloction on arrival and as we are in our early 50's felt the hotel was inappropriate.
Although advertised as a family hotel, in July and August we were told by rep that it is really an 18-30. We only stayed one night and the morning after the queue was lengthy to complain. The night was horredendous.
We were woken on numeous occasions by groups of youths coming in, drunk and generally being loud. There was glass round the pool from the previous night and we only actually saw 3 families there - mostly groups of youths of both sexes.
General opinion - if you are 18-30 then this is the place for you. Loads of music and pool tables etc. and close to the main drag of the resort. If you are thinking of a family holiday or over the age of 40 then think again. We were move dthe following day to Kalamaki - approx 5 mins up the road and this was heaven.
Point to note the reps were excellent - Helen Gregory and Ben. Both understood our concerns and moved very quickly to move us to another hotel.
Air con and fridge were extra 70E per week.

| said: We visited this hotel in July - on arrival we were put off straight away by the receptionist who was very rude and snapped at questions that were asked. However we were taken to our room by a maid fairly quickly - the room was pretty basic but very clean - one plus point was that it overlooked the pool. The maid came in to clean our room every day and sheets and towels were always changed. However the trouble started at the night time - the noise was really bad - it would start at 2am and finally stop at 7ish. Screaming and banging on your doors, they did not seem to care about the other people in the hotel. This was complained about on many occasions but nothing was done about it. People that I spoke to on the way home have also advised the same thing.
The holiday reps (who where they!!!!!) were only seen on the first day and after they had sold you the trips where nowhere to be found.
The entertainment was very poor - the girl there (Melanie) did try hard but no one was interested. She was lovely and would alwats sit and chat. The bar staff were great!!!!!!!!!
Location of the hotel was very good and loads of places around for good food.
Would not visit hotel again - only due to the noise though

We arrived, very tired at 8am and were greeted by the hotel manager, Costas, who offered us all free drinks. Shown to our rooms by Ramus (security man). Breakfast was continental (as you'd expect) but we had the option to pay a little extra for English. Excellent hotel staff (including the cleaners). Hello to Vangelis and Alex (barmen) - keep juggling those bottles! Entertainment provided by Suzy and Simone was excellent. Real party atmosphere until 2am! Rooms downstairs are soundproofed pretty well so we couldn't hear anything from downstairs if we fancied an early night - only disturbance was the late night drinkers who didn't really care who they woke when going to their rooms (only happened a couple of times - security man was around to try to keep everyone quiet). Pool was clean and plenty of sunbeds. They have a half-built swimming pool at the rear of the hotel which should be ready in 2005. Met a lot of friendly people from the UK - hello to Kim, Matt, Eddie and Elaine. Hope to see you all again soon!

Clean, bright and not in the middle of nowhere.
We were the first people to arrive at the hotel and the welcome we received was excellent. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and willing to help with anything including fixing my bed which broke. Whilst I was asleep I heard a bang and realised I was on the floor none of the slats on the bed were screwed in and as you moved around so did they. They decided to screw them all down whilst laughing at me and my boyfriend. (I'm glad they saw the funny side.)
The food that we got as part of our bed and breakfast was reasonable (the strawberry jam was great)
As for the entertainment the karaoke bloke Thomas was really good he made everyone laugh.
I am going back to the same hotel in 7 weeks time!

| said: After reading the many reports on this page I feel I have to put my points across.
Myself and my partner and another couple booked to go to the Alexander from the Sunset brochure, as it was a fantastic deal we booked bed and breakfast.
First impressions from outside the hotel were not so good, things changed when we got inside, we had to queue for about 10-15 mins to check in but what else do you expect when a coach full of other holiday makers are doing exactly the same thing!
We were shown to our basic but clean rooms by a member of staff, quite a small room but were only sleeping and showering there anyway.
Over the next few days of our holiday we made some lovely friends with other holiday makers and the bar staff. Hotel manager was very friendly.
Pool areas were clean and plenty of sun loungers available.
Food from the pool bar was great - the usual thing like pizza, English breakfast etc.
Not right in the centre of the nightlife but a short distance to walk to.
All in all we had a great time and would definitely come back to this hotel.
Can I just say that anyone who reads all these holiday reports actually needs to see for themselves as nothing like some people make out.
I would say that this hotel is ideal for young couples and families in low season (May, Sept, Oct).
Great value for money hotel.

We found everything here to be great, its very clean, maids come round every day. In fact they start cleaning the pool area at about 0730 and are still cleaning the hotel rooms into the late afternoon. The staff are really helpful and friendly, but the barmen are the best, as are all the Greek people we've met. We were SC and there are enough restaurants in the immediate area giving BF for approx 4-6EUROS. FATSOs does 'eat as much as u like' for 6E for adults and about 3E for kids.
Met some great people....LIZ and JILL from somewhere in Scotland, ROZZ and kids, some great guys from Newcastle/Sunderland area. All the kids in the hotel mixed well.

| said: We stayed here last year and what a dump! We were worried before we went as there was a picture of it in The Sun a week before departure and it looked like a building site. I phoned the travel agent who phoned JMC who said all building work had been completed. Luckliy, it had but that was where the good news ended. It took over an hour to check in which as we had been on a night flight and it was then 6am, we just wanted our beds. The rooms were very basic and the air conditioning wasn't switched on as it wasn't the right time of year! We had a birds nest outside our room (inside the corridor) with hatchlings in so when we were trying to sleep they were constantly crying for food. People would notice and discuss them in very loud voices at 3am right outside our bedroom door. There were people that were constantly arguing and slamming doors at all times of the day and night. The bathroom was disgusting and needed ripping out. The main entertainment was awful and the only quiet place for a drink was in the roof top bar which was very peaceful and pretty at sunset and very expensive as it wasn't included in the all inclusive price. You had to go up there by a very small lift and thankfully we were already up there when there was a power cut. The food was awful and there were many complaints by all to the manager. We could put up with breakfast and lunch but didn't eat there in the evening. The JMC reps were usually no where to be seen and when they were they totally disinterested. All they wanted to do was sell day trips. We went on one to the famous Smugglers Cove. Were were told the boat was a brilliant boat with 3 sundecks which would go right into the cove. There was 1 sundeck which about 30 people could get on however, there was about 200 people on this old thing that resembled a ferry like the type you see on the news when they have sunk! There was hard wooden benches to sit on if you didn't get on the sundeck with the plastic patio furniture. The small kiosk had sold out of sandwiches by 11am and there was only 1 female and 1 male toilet. It took hours to get to the cove and another hour to moor the boat about 200 yards from the beach. If you wanted to actually go to the beach you had to swim from the back of the boat. When we eventually got back to the coach in the evening someone asked for a show of hands of anyone that had enjoyed the day. Not one hand was raised. When it came to check out, we had to leave the room by 11am but our transfer to the airport wasn't coming until 3am the next day. We had to book a time when we could have a shower in a room by the pool toilets. All the baggage was left unattended and insecure at the quiet end of reception, next to an open door to the road. Anyone could have taken it. The bar closed at midnight and there were only 6 semi-comfortable seats to sit on between 15 of us. Laganas itself is OK but I'm glad were weren't staying in the middle of it. However, the beach is beautiful and it is worth going on a small boat trip that goes from the beach or taking a scuba diving course at the PADI qualified school. Also, it's great fun to hire a peddalo and go in the search of a loggerhead turle. The only good thing about the hotel was that the pool was OK with plenty of sunbeds. If you are thinking of going here, do yourself a favour and book elsewhere. We went as a last minute deal at 1/2 price. I felt sorry for the poor people that had paid full price. Incidently, the place was featured on Watchdog earlier this year and it didn't look like anything had changed.

| said: after reading reports about this hotel i was not looking forward to staying!on arrival it did take a long time to get checked in but they were giving the kids drinks and sweets for free, and something stronger for us.when we got our keys and showed to our room we couldint belive how many corridors and steps we had to go up and then back down it was like a hotel that jack built.the room was very basic but clean and the view was ok over looking the pub called captain morgans.the location was ideal for us as july is busiest time but no noise heard when you went to bed, which is ideal when you got kids.the bar staff was lovely with the kids making them feel very welcome, but the rep well what can i say(useless)it took 3 days to get a new fridge as it was not working when we arrived. we were getting a bit stressed by the 3rd day with the rep and then finaly it came.the pools were clean but of course when you got there around 10 there was lots and lots of towels on the sunbed,so get there early, apart from this we had a great holiday in zante and the kids loved it,will defenitly be visiting zante again but will be looking for a diffrent hotel.

| said: when arriving at the hotel i was pleasantly surprised, the pool area looked nice and so did the bar and reception, but inside its a bit of a maze,we remember trying to find the roof top bar it took us half an hour, theres that many corridors and steps but once up there its lovely and peacefull the views are amazing.didnt think much of the staff not very helpful, there was often films on for the kids and plenty of pool tables to keep them busy.happt hour was 7 till 8 which was ideal for having a drink before hitting the town.the bar stayed open as long as you were still buying, there was always something going on when arriving in from the centre.we were horrified one day when we had storms never seen rain like it the hotel corridors were flooded every body was complaining there was just loads of people shouting at staff as there was water all over and becoming very dangerous, couldint belive our eyes when we saw big drills coming from the corridor celings,so the water drained threw but with that came all the cement,it was awful but didnt let it get to us we just had to laugh it off.if you just wanting a good holiday and just somewhere to get your head down the alex isint that bad i suspose,if i was to go back it would have to be cheap.

| said: I don't normally do things like this but after reading this review, I felt that I had to tell people my view of the hotel, which differs so much it's untrue! Before going to Laganas in July of last year, I had read many horror stories about the hotel and was a little worried that the hotel would live up to the reputation. From what I saw of the hotel whilst staying there, my only solution is that the people writing reviews of the hotel stayed somewhere else and got the names mixed up!
As soon as we got to the hotel, we checked in pretty quickly, with free refreshments being offered around, and our bags were carried to our room for us (which I didn't expect at all!). Upon getting to our room I was surprised that it was as spacious as it was, but I have to admit I was a little disappointed with our balcony (which overlooked the room opposite), however we were one of the unlucky few to have this - most balconies have nice views. Our room was cleaned daily, as were the corridors, with towels and linen being changed every few days.
With regards to the entertainment, if you've got kids it would be great! There were themed evenings with karaoke and discos, with quizs and stuff later on for adults. At times the entertainment was a bit cheesy, and occassionally the entertainer was annoying, but isn't that always the way?! And anyway, who goes on holiday to sit in the hotel bar all the time!! During the daytime, many sporting events (Wimbledon and the World Cup whilst we were there) were shown on a big screen in the bar, with the bar being specially opened during match time.
We stayed bed and breakfast so I can't comment on the evening food, but the breakfast was fine. There was always a choice of what to have, with toast and cereal every day. I think there was a cooked breakfast twice a week, and on the other days you had the choice of yoghurt, fruit or chocolate cake!!! We ate at the poolside bar most lunchtimes, where there was a good choice of food all at quite cheap prices.
We chose to do the island tour via boat, booked with an outside agency (book on the street) which was a really good day out, and a lot cheaper than that offered by JMC. We did go to Zante Town with the reps, stopping off at a vineyard where we sampled wine for free! Speaking of the reps, they were often seen around the pool (quite a lot of the time actually in the pool) just talking to people and / or playing games in the water. The male rep was a tad annoying last year (just a bit too cocky for my liking!) but the girl Jo was really friendly and helpful.
All in all, I have no complaints about the holiday or the hotel, and I had an absolutely fab time. I would advise anyone staying here to ignore the nonsense written about it and just get out there and have fun!
