| said: Nice apartments but as already mentioned the steps to it are a pain especially in the heat.
During our week the maid cleaned the room twice and changed the towels.
If you stay on the lower levelin block 'c' during may-june 2008 look out for the Kittens which kept us entertained!

| said: Just back from a week at the Cala dor and had a fantastic time. We had a quiet room (305) with a lovely view.The rooms and public areas are very clean and the pool bar serves reasonably priced food. All the staff are very friendly and helpful especially the lovely Kathy who does the entertainment. Shows are varied(singers, comedian,reptile show etc) and good so you needn't go out if you don't want.As mentioned before there are approx. 166 steps down to the centre but for the less sprightly there is a longer route on the flat or taxis are very cheap.
Found the best restaurant right next door beneath the castillo del Sol, its called Minanas and is an absolute must if you like top class food and fantasic atmosphere.We have visited Puerto Rico for twenty years and this is the best restaurant we have found.
We will ceratainly be returning as we had a lovely relaxing stay.

The staff were friendly and the entertainmemt with Kathy was fantistic, she was a buss.
We are going back in Febuary next year and August with the rest of our family the rooms were very clean and nice with great views.

| said: Very clean hotel and rooms. Rooms cleaned 3-4 times the week we stayed.
Pool and other hotel areas cleaned every day. From the balcony you can see pool the town below and the sea.
You have to go down several flights of stairs to get to the commercial centre below and then you can walk through the park to the sea front. It is a bit noisy as you can hear and even watch the entertainment downstairs from your balcony.
Staff helpful and friendly.
Would not visit hotel again as would stay in another resort.

| said: Just arrived back from a weeks stay at the Cala dor, we found that it deserves more than the two star it's been given.
The apartments were very clean and spacious, would definitely benefit from having air con fitted, as it was averaging 32 degrees in November.
Didn't, eat a great deal in the hotel just the odd snack but even those were good. Shame about the 197 steps, didn't bother us too much as we used to walk down to the centre, and for 2 euros we'd get a taxi back up.
Hotel staff very friendly, entertainment was good, the noise from the centre below did go on a bit, but as the bedroom was at the back of the apartment it didn't bother us.
This was our first holiday in 22 years on our own(without the kids!)and we would definitely go back, would recommend this hotel.

| said: The Cala D`or apartment building is an older building but has had some refurbishment. Rooms are all one bedroom with kids sleeping on couch. There is the usual kettle, microwave etc.
It is very clean and tidy and every one of the staff will go out of there way to help you. The noise is the biggest factor, the apartments don't have air con and at night it isn't possible to leave doors or windows open because of the noise coming from the shopping centre below, which when we were there went a bit quieter about 3.30am.
The walls in the apartments are paper thin and you can here next door having a conversation, which proved a little bit embarrassing for us explaining to our young son what the strange noises were coming out of next door ( Honeymoon couple !!!)
The apartments are in a handy position for everything but to get down to centre you have to scale an awful lot of steps or walk round by the road. The entertainment in the apts is basic the usual karaoke - bingo - local singers etc... But as everybody else in these reviews says Dave the entertainer is excellent with kids of all ages.
The only downside to the entertainment was when it finished 1230 - 100 am the kids tended to roam around the apartment blocks unsupervised making lots of noise waking up the younger children and adults staying there and on a couple of occasions were asked to keep the the noise down by other people staying there they were given a lot of abuse.
I wouldn`t recommend staying here for anyone without kids or if you have younger ones looking for a quieter holiday.

| said: Had a brill time here at the cala dor.
Arrived here mid afternoon, with everyone very excited. Unpacked and straight in the pool.
Don't usually go to welcome meetings, but found this informative, as Rixy the rep, did very well.
Make sure you do go on at least one excursion, Sioux city is fab, family enjoyed it, you may get the excursions cheaper, but personally, can you really be bothered looking around for cheaper ones when your on a stress free holiday.
Rixy very easy to talk to and always around when we needed him.
Dave the rave was ace, although he did cheat at water polo, he was fantastic with the kids and made our 2 weeks stay must enjoyable.
Reception staff, cleaners and bar staff all worked hard and I will defo be back next year.

Only problem was all the steps but taxis cheap enough 2 eurors usually.
Best places to eat would recommend San Miguels had to queue some nights but worth it. About 30 to 35 eurors for 4 of us with drinks, Catarmaran trip is worth it all food and as much as you can drink included in price. Dave was good with the kids and provided entertainment for adults, walter polo, pool etc.
Would definitely go back again

| said: Great hotel - planning our trip for next year now. Manuel and Mr Burns were great on receptioon and behind the Bar - couldn't do enough and very funny.
Only issue was Dave the entertainer - he needs to get back into this country as the heat is getting to him - he believes that Middlesborough are a top club.
Entertainment great and enjoyed the waterpolo despite the cheating and Dave's cheating.
Look forward to going back again next year.
Thomsons - were rubbish and as for the rep I can honestly say a DVD confirfming the excusions and an order form at reception would have doen the same job as Rixy.
The one time he was needed when one guy at the hotel got injured he advised "Im on my day off tomorrow so I hope you get things sorted by the time I get back" luckily Dave stepped in and got things sorted. We were also delayed 12 hours on our return flight.
Shows how good the hotel and staff are as even after that we are still going back, pitty we can't book through someone else though.

The Bar staff very friendly and polite.
Prices in Apartment were reasonable.
A bit too many steps for our liking, to get to the town, but taxi's only 2 euros back up.
Dave was awsome, great with the kids (Shannon, ceejay & Morgan)thanks, and great with the adults, killer pool in the afternoon for the kids, then killer pool for the adults followed by water polo.
Entertainment in the evening was great, kids dancing, bingo followed by the acts. (excellent)

On arrival the Cala D'or was impressive in its location, appearance and its cleanliness which was a super start. A very warm welcome was given by the reception staff that also opened up the shop for us at 1.30 am for milk!
The apartment inside was roomy and extremely clean (I am an obsessive nit picker regarding cleanliness) and remained so throughout the holidays as the cleaning team were very thorough on daily visits.
The views from my balcony which was a good size were fantastic overlooking the pool with the harbor in view.
I found all staff to be very polite and helpful in the reception and bar area.
Entertainment was good, they have some very good acts on to suit all tastes.
The Cala D'or owes much of its success to its staff - in particular Dave who is the sole entertainments manager - he was absolutely first class, genius with the kids and very patient! A genuinely helpful guy and tries to involve all in the daily activities he arranges without any pressure. He kept everyone smiling - children and adults alike and just makes everyone’s holiday so good.

I most highly recommend the Cala D'or and will be going back later this year simply because my family and I had such a brilliant time as did all other holiday makers we were there with !!

Rixy the rep was friendly and easy to talk to.
Found the cost of drinks and ice creams more expensive than in the commercial centre so with a young family could be quite expensive!

| said: We stayed at the Cala D'or in December 05. Hotel was very clean, towels were changed every day. Pool area was clean.
Didn't actually eat there so cannot comment on the food.
Entertainment laid on every night for a couple of hours, but by midnight the hotel was quiet and never noisy.
There are 188 steps to the hotel but this is stated in all holiday brochures (good for keeping fit) after eating all the excellent food in the resort. Taxi only cost 2 euros anyway and they were constantly available.
Would definitely recommend to anyone thinking about going!

| said: OK for the money. Don't go there for a quiet time.
Rooms are clean and tidy. But little noise insulation. If you get one of the lower levels.
Bring plenty of cat food. The feral cats are so tame that they try and get into your room.
When the brochure says "Steps up to the hotel". Believe it! There is the alternative of a 2-3 Euro taxi ride, or take your walking boots. Wheelchairs and pushchairs be warned!

| said: The Cala D'or is a nice hotel but not very good if you aren't very mobile.
Me and my girlfriend (both 18) even struggled with the steps after a while, so i'm not sure how older people could cope. I definately recommend getting a taxi back up the hill after you've been somewhere, it's cheap and much easier.
We didn't watch the entertainment but it sounded pretty annoying from our balcony, but cant really fairly comment. The hotel was clean apart from one attack by a cockroach on the last night, but he regretted it more than we did. The staff all seemed friendly.
I wouldn't go here again as I want to travel to other places yet I would recommend this hotel to people having a first holiday. Safe, easy and nice.

| said: We had a self catering apartment on the 4h floor, though this was a plus - could get the lift so no stairs but also there was no way anyone could get on our balcony from outside so we felt safe to leave the doors open at night.
The view from the blacony was ok, just across the valley. The apartment was nice, larger than we expceted, a pleasant surprise, looked new and was very clean with linen and towels replaced at least once during the week, but kitchen area cleaned daily.
The pool is very small so not good if u want to stay there the whole time, but beach very nice, amadores beach is worth the walk/bus/taxi - even better!
Overall would recommend the Cala Dor it deserves a higher rating just because of the standards of the rooms. Didnt try the bar food so cant comment, shop is expensive but theres a supermarket down the hill so walk there if you want more than milk.

| said: Cala d'or apartments proved well above average.. Very clean and well presented. Staff are extremely friendly and rep (Emma) was always at hand!
As far as a 'girls' holiday there is a mix between youngsters going clubbing and families which i feel is a bad combination.
The steps to the Hotel was never an issue to us.. we had to work the alcohol off some how!! Whilst going home at night they are well lit and it helps if you sing :-)..
Pool area was sun-trap.. really hot at times which is very good! Water polo is real good laugh - girls always win ;-). Shop on complex is as good as anywhere.. a tad picey but saves the walk up and down the steps to the super-market.
Pleantly to do if your goin on a clubbin holiday; Bar Crawl, Booze Cruise, Aqua Park! Pleantly of clubs/nightclubs to explore in the evenings!
Felt we paid alot for holiday, speaking to other guests we noticed Tompson charged us the same for one week as some people paid for two!!
Overall, a fab holiday, throughly enjoyed ourselfs.. would recommend to anyone..

Lots of steps to restaurants would walk down them and get a taxi back.
Evening entertainment was really good.
