| said: What can I saw about the Lyda Beach Apartments , oh yeah, terrible, terrible, terrible,.
My wife myself and our teenage daughter shared a studio apartment which was too small for three adults even though it is advertised that up to four people can be accomadated in these rooms.
The room itself was tiny no table or chairs in the room . Bathroom and shower area tiny, always flooded. Kitchen area ( not even a kettle ).
Our studio was on the first floor overlooking the dining/entertainment area , very noisy ( Kareoke night the worst )there is 24 hour activity around this area. All apartments is this area are very close to each other ( no privicy what so ever ). When on the balcony you can literly reach out and touch the people on the balconies to the left and right of you.
There is a car/quad/moped rental shop plus a very lively music bar ( which never seems to close )near the front apartments , I was informed by residents staying on this side of the complex that the noise from all the activity (motors, music bar, people coming and going )was 24/7.
I have to say that the cleaner who was allocated to our area was one of the nicest and most helpful member of staff that myself and my family have ever met ,

| said: Just back from Lyda Beach apartments. Was staying in maisonette, compact, but clean. Cleaning staff lovely, very pleasant.
First week was lovely, ideal if you are looking for a relaxing holiday, bit out from the village but had been in this area before and loved it. Beach right across the road.
According to the Holiday brochure the Lyda Beach is suitable for Families and young couples, this only applied to the first week.
Second week, holiday from hell. Complex was taken over by approx 70+ students who over ran that complex and ruined the holiday. Al night parties, pool overtaken, choldren could not get in and then when it was frre advised to stay out as a result of the partygoers.
Would never stay there again!!!!

| said: My husbandand i went self catering to lyda beach apartments and were very disappointed.First off to get to our apartment we had to carry our luggage down one flight of stairs with and up three flights.We felt we were being totally ripped off when we discovered that for two weeks we had to pay €150 if we wanted air conditioning considering it does not cost us that for two weeks to heat our four bedroomed house in the winter,so we bought a fan for €21 it did the job.When we went to make a cup of tea in our self catering apartment and discovered no kettle we were informed we had to hire that also. In the first week we went for four days without our rooms being touched and i had to resort to emptying the bin myself.When i asked if i could have two cereal bowls for our self catering app i was informed that whatever was there when we went in was all we got.Entertainment was very poor also two nights out of seven, not good enough.

| said: We went for a holidays with budget travel in June 08.
Start wasn't so great because our plane was 2.5 hour late and when we went home the plane was leaving at 7am so we had to leave hotel at 3.40am so that was crazy..
But except that all holiday was excellent. Room brilliant. On other part of complex than was night bar. room was new and spottless. Three pools only for guests with sunbeds and umbrellas. Therewas as well minimarket in complex.
We rented a buggy so we had a lot of fun.
And budget rep organised for us brilliant jeep adventure, boat trip and waterpark day so we had a lot of fun all time.
p.s. best restaurant in Gouvee is Medusa. Exelent food and brilliant staff.

| said: Stayed at Lyda appartments for last 3 years.staff very friendly and helpful. 3 relly nice pools that are never crowded even in high season. very safe place for our 2 young kids who made great friends every year. Rooms cleaned every day, bed linen 3 times a week, even the cleaners are very pleasant.Food to suit everyone if not they'll make if for you. very cheap and excellent food. we've nothing bad to say, its so good we've booked for 3 weeks this year.

| said: Re the Lyda Beach Apartments; pulling up off the coach the exterior looks nice - but unfortunately the inside does not tell the same story. First off Staff are very nice, Reception is nice, Pool is grand, Bar is fine, but the rooms are terrible. Really; our apartment was on 1st floor first apartment next to front entrance - walk in and 2/3 steps you've passed your 'kitchen' - hob, draining board, few presses sink - old. Bathroom was the worst - you can't do a 360 in it and we're normal size, shower curtain held up by wire, seriously, ceiling panels loose, gaping, I didn't want to look further up when I saw the concrete blocks above…….walk past kitchen 5/6 steps you are at the 2 single beds - really old bedding, yuck, seriously - I was glad I brought 2 pillow cases and a sheet, shudder,..... another few steps you are on your veranda, small and unfortunately the footpath at front of the hotel was literally there, so close our towels hanging there were brushing against peoples arms passing by - so you couldn't exactly sit out and relax over a glass of vino there casually. We asked to be moved - no problem to show us other rooms - but they were just basically the same, so we chose to stay where we were as we were only on 1 wks holiday, as opposed to moving down to a basement apartment we kept the one we were in, as the view was spectacular - [apart from the public walking past!] - the beach is literally across the road - superb views. lovely restaurants up along to your right to choose from, locals very friendly.

| said: I have to say reading the other reviews from these apartments i was very surprised. June 2007 was my fourth time to visit this complex and i love it. its not just the quietness you find in goves that attracts me to it the people are wonderful.if you are out for a hoilday were you can get away from everything and have a laugh lyda is the place to go.i spent most of my time at the chill out bar with george(the barman). while on hoilday on this occasion the staff from lyda studios and lyda beach brought me to a greek night club it was very different but also very fun it just shows how nice the staff are that they would bring me with them i was on hoildays with my mother this year i'm going back on my own and cannot wait.altought the appartments are basic there is entertainment everynight in the snack bar, the food is lovely (try the lyda speical sandwhich) but the staff make your stay in creta all the better.

I'm just back from the Lyda beach and I must say it was fantastic!!! On a cleanliness level its ok not too bad the rooms are quite basic however but its up to yourself if you want to wallow in the room or visit the brilliant bar staff!!
They are just amazing ..especially Andreas he is the ticket!!! They all love the Irish so if your up for a bit of crack these guys will facilatate you no problem!!
I'm going again in June can't wait..its in the middle of no where but the suroundings are gorgeous...just hire a car like I did..because its the nicest place to stay but is kind of isolated and buses can be a pain.

| said: This year was our third visit to Lyda studios so that tells its own story.
The hotel staff and location was the main attraction for us. It's child friendly and safe with three great pools, two great bars and good food.
The staff are all friendly and helpful and the Wednesday night greek night was not to be missed.
We will be back again next year.

| said: My husband and i arrived at this hotel it was worse than fawlty towers, the lobby was disgusting and the staff disorganised. we arrived 3am and the partying was still on from the night before, the girls in the room next to ours sounded like they were running a whorehouse. being sick outside our room, crying, trying to get into our room etc. the staff were indifferent. when i asked the rep the next day could we move hotels there was nothing else available so we did get to move rooms but that took two days. also it was awful in that there were irish flags everywhere. I am proud to be irish but do not feel the need to hang my flag from my balcony, and certain people would be upset by this.it was awful. gouves itself was a lovely little place but i wouldnt stay at this hotel again if you paid me.

| said: We stayed in Lyda Studios - there are two Lyda properties, Lyda Beach is right on the beach and the studios are about 10 minutes walk from the beach. Both are in Gouves, which is not your typical loud resort. Yes it has a strip of restaurants and bars with people trying to get you in, but in general it is smaller and more low key compared to Hersonnisis etc. We had a great time, as it was so peaceful and lad back.
The Lyda studios are basically in the countryside, with most amenities about a 10 - 15 minute walk away...great for really getting away from things.
The apartments are your basic Greek style, don't expect anything swish but its great for the price you are getting it for. It has three pools which is brilliant - if kids are annoying you at one pool you can simply move pools.
The bars are good fun and lively enough - there is a small poolside bar run by Gianni where we spent most our time - he plays nice chilled out music and creates a warm friendly atmosphere - great for those nights when you can't be bothered venturing or out, or when you get back early from the restaurant. By our final night, we were on first name terms with most of our co-holiday makers by hanging out at that bar.
The other bar is noisier and serves food, which is pretty edible and cheap. They have karaoke and stuff like that there.
I would definitely recommend Lyda studios, if you want a relaxing, quiet holiday, where you will get away from it all, and you don't have to spend a huge amount.

| said: Lyda Apartments. Don't stay there, I made the mistake to choose this place. Choose, instead, Hersonissos. Gouves is the ugliest place in whole Crete (confirmed even by cretans). Just road, and ugly beaches, but Crete is beautiful.
The bad location of the apartments plus the fact that you have to give 100€ deposit, are two main things to consider, given that Budget Travel doesn't mention this in the contract.
And even more: It's 7 days holiday: BUT the first day is over, because you take the plane of course on the first day of vacation, but... at 22:00 in the night, so you reach the Hotel at 6:00 in the morning of the supposed second day of vacation, that you have to spend sleeping, of course.
And the 7th day, you wouldn't mind travelling over the night... but instead, at 16:00 the bus comes to pick you up... that means only 5 full days, and they charge 7.
