| said: Hotel Palm Royale & Suite is situated about 10 minutes walk from the centre of Garda in a quiet district.
It is an unattractive concrete building and has a '70's feel about it.
There is a good pool but the area is spoiled by the terrace which is full of weeds growing through the paviers, the sun loungers need a good wash as they are grimy and there are creepers & bushes which need to be pruned back from pathways. I can't understand why the ground maintenance is so poor.
Rooms are a good size and have a sofa bed as well as the twin beds. The maids do a good job and the air con works well.
We were on half board as hotels in Italy tend not to offer B & B, but only ate breakfast as we prefer to eat in local restaurants. The breakfast buffet was fine (usual watered down fruit juice, lots of cold processed meats, no daily variety) although I was not impressed enough to try an evening meal. Reports from fellow guests said dinners were adequate, but felt it was all a bit regimented.
Staff were pleasant & friendly although there was an annoying tendency to wake you up when you were sunbathing to take drinks orders.
Signs are posted around the pool forbidding food & drink consumption if not purchased from the bar....fair enough, but I don't think you can insist that people only buy small bottles of water at bar prices. This is not a luxury....it's essential for good health in hot climates.
Entertainment a couple of nights a week consisted of a man singing old favourites.
Although classed as a 3* in Italy, JWT placed it as a 2*. You could certainly have a reasonable stay here and with a bit of a face-lift, the overall impression would be so much better.
