| said: Third time to this hotel and already booked again for next year (8 of us!) I always said I'd go to a place only once but we have fallen in love with here.
Food was good. Plenty of choice at the dome, great steak at the sunset (huge) and the Thai restaurant was lovely. They did struggle to keep pace at times in the dome but it was considerably busier this year. Spotlessly clean and the staff are excellent. The animation team are still naff and the joker bar for entertainment has gone down. It seems the kids ages have dropped much younger this year, lots of 7 and under, and the entertainment reflected this. We spent most of our time in the Stan Getz bar which was really good. The bar staff are quite unique.
No problem at all getting a sunbed despite the fact it was so busy. You still have the problem of people grabbing the sunbeds with towels at the crack of dawn but there is still enough left over.
All in all, standards have slipped a teeny bit but it is still a fabulous hotel and I would recommend it to anyone.

We had things stollen out of rooms, duty free aftershave, tweezers, shaving gel, magazines and gold earrings. put everything in your safe. The rep wasnt very helpful! The entertainment is rubbish and if your there for 2 weeks you will see everything twice!! Be very careful what and where you eat, the dome is awful food hygiene not very good. The italian, the tai and Botanical gardens is lovely and well worth a visit. Get your sunbeds early, by 7.30 all the beds are gone!

The hotel is spotless, in every area. The staff were very friendly and were always willing to help. Enjoyed ourselves so much were going back next easter.
Only down side to the hotel is that guests at the Makadi Palace next door can use all the facilities at the Grand Makadi so you eed to be up early to get sun beds etc.

| said: we stayed in the grand makadi the all inclusive package was fab.
the hotel was spotless you could eat off the floor. the room was huge with a beach bag and towels there for you. the rooms were attended to 3 times a day which was a little too much.
the food was great something for everyone the fish in the buffet resturant was really tasty.
the staff couldn't do enough although when we went it was very quiet so when the hotel is full that could be a different story.
my daughter loved the kids club the only issue there is is that there is no communication as to what they are doing. they went to a party in the grand resort in hurghada and took our daughter we didn't know where she was so that was very distressing but our fault to. she really enjoyed itand that was the main thing.

The Hotel is spotless, you could eat off the floor.
The food is of a very high standard, we eat at the Thai, Lebanese, Carribean and both Buffet Retaurants. They were all a fantastic experience!!! As we were all inclusive the drinks were free. The red and white wine available free on the All Inclusive are very drinkable
The Hotel is in a quiet location with easy access to the beach where the snorkelling is great.
The Staff were excellent. They always smiled and were pleasant at all times.
We hope to return as soon as possible to this wonderful Hotel

| said: Just had a week at the Grand Makadi, and loved it.
I wasn't expecting too much having been to Egypt before, but was surprised at how much I liked this hotel. It's ideal for a quiet relaxing week.
There are three a la carte restaurants, Carribean, Italian and Lebanese. The Caribbean and Italian are also open for lunch. Be sure to get there sharp at 1230 when they open or you may struggle for a table until about 1.45.
The Lebanese was good enough, just we weren't sure what we were eating, and as out table was outside it was a bit too dark to see. The belly dancer was good though.
In addition to the main buffet( pretty standard usual stuff) there is also a pool restaurant. Very limited menu and not much to the portions.
Outside the kids club there is a restaurant doing burgers, chicken nuggets etc our kids liked to go here by themselves for lunch.
Be sure and book your restaurants as soon as you get there. You have to do it direct with each restaurant. We went at lunch time on our first day and couldn't get in for the next two nights. Also double up on your reservations, we went to the Italian twice. We also went to the Thai in the Makadi Palace, which was wonderful.
At the moment the Palace guests can use our facilities but we can't use theirs unless you upgrade your wristband. This can be done with reception. It cost us £17 for two adults and a child for 24 hour access to The Palace. We used their hotel for a buffet lunch the next day also.
I found the Grand to have more atmosphere in the evening than the Palace.
The Palace are doing a huge extention to their hotel at the moment. I would imagine once this is completed they will have more of their own restaurants and stop their guests using the Grand for free, but that will be a while away.
The pool area is great, lots of space and plenty of sunbeds. The water is freezing though, once your in it's fine. The usual activities go on - volleyball, water polo, aerobics etc.
Snorkelling is a MUST! The coral is amazing .If you are not a into swimming just walk out in the water and you will see load of colourful fish. Take some bread or banana from breakfast and you will have them eating out of your hand. Be sure to go in the morning though when the tide is out, it's much clearer.
You will need to buy the special rubber shoes. They are 5 Egyptian form the shop or 7 Euros on the beach. Snorkels can also be purchased. The beach gives them out but they go quickly in the morning.
The main focus of the hotel is the terrace bar. There is a limited cocktail menu, but you can opt for others at an extra charge (£3.50), as you can with wine other than the house. We found the house red to be very drinkable!!
At night there is usually something going on, a singer , a small show from the animation team or a local dancer or musicians. Nothing too adventurous but enough to keep you amused. There is a disco but we never bothered with it so cant comment.
We did tip the staff who looked after us every now and again, it doesn't need to be much but it will help get you a drink quicker and a seat found when you need one. The bell boys are a nightmare for their tips when you are departing, which I found very rude. They follow you about and let you know they have your case and you have not tipped them. No one else in the hotel was like this.
Be prepare for the Germans and Russians. They have no manners and can't recognise a queue when they see one.
Overall I would recommend this hotel, it's ideal for a winter break. Just remember you are in Egypt, their 5* is not the same as ours.

| said: Came here last year. Lots of the building work from last year has been finished. The new reception is really nice.
The new joker bar is the centre of the nightly entertainment and is an improvement on the previous year.
I cannot recommend this hoyel enough as it is simply one of the best I've ever stayed in.
The only derogatory comment I can make is that they have some excellent tennis courts which in the 2 years I've stayed have never seen anyone play on day or night? £120E seems a bit steep for an hour!
Staying next year at the Makadi Star complex which they are building onto the palace. These are more spacious rooms with 2 bedrooms. Can't wait!

| said: The Grand Makadi is an excellent hotel situated on the beach which was good for snorkeling the children enjoyed feeding the fish in the sea that can right up to you and took the food out of your hand.
The hotel provided snorkels for you to use which was a great help beach shoes were also available to buy which at about £4 they were needed in the sea because of the coral but an under water camera is essential but are quiet expensive out there.
The hotel staff are very friendly, the Italian and the Carribean restaraunts are excellent.Excursions - the Luxor trip is a great experience but not advisable for really young ones because of the heat, the shopping trip about £5 adult £3 child was of interest as they give you some great tips, also went on a water park trip which was also excellent about £20 adult £10 child great day out

| said: I have recently returned from a holiday at the Makadi Palace. I have stayed in Riu hotels in the Dominican and Mexico and this hotel is certainly on par with them.
There are a couple of things that need to be addressed by the hotel management, the first being the entertainment, it just is not suitable for a family resort, the animation team try hard, but it just isn't right. The shows are much too late for families 10.45pm and Moulin Rouge did not go down well with me let alone my 7 year old son!!!
The second is the lobby bar which unfortunately is not "all inclusive" at any time, which obviously means it is deserted. The lobby opens onto a beautiful terrace with views over the whole resort, but as this area is served by the lobby bar, yes you guessed its deserted too! We mentioned this to Rory the rep (excellent), who said he was constantly telling them but to no avail, I'm surprised they haven't caught on yet. Usually the reception area of a hotel is a hive of activity with people coming and going, meeting up for a drink etc, but here at times it felt almost library like, I wouldn't have been surprised if someone said "ssshhhh"!!!!
So now I've had my moan the good bits. The hotel is beautiful it looks like an Arabian palace. The whole layout and design of the place is one of space and relaxation.
This is a large resort with several pools all well maintained and exceptionally clean all have sunbeds with umbrellas surrounding them, there are even terraces slightly away from the pools if you want even more peace and quiet. We went main weeks Jul/Aug and getting a sunbed at anytime of the day wasn't a problem. The pool area's are served by drinks waiters who will bring you cool drinks all day.
The beach area is large with many sunbeds and umbrellas, if you walk to the right of the hotel you can walk straight into a sandy part of the sea. The snorkeling was fantastic and even if you don't snorkel the fish you can see just below the surface are breathtaking.
The food in the main buffet restaurant was always well presented and hot. The choice of the speciality restaurants when we stayed was fabulous. The Thai was exceptionally good, as was the Caribbean in the Grand next door, the Italian and Lebanese. The Discovery in the Palace was closed for refurbishment, but looked ready to re open soon, as did the Botanical Restaurant. The Rendezvous was a popular choice with my children, lots of freshly cooked pancakes and ice cream from 12 each day along with burgers, hot dogs etc.
The suites were always very clean, very large with the biggest bed ever!! Plenty of wardrobe space, TV, mini fridge, safety deposit box etc and a huge bathroom with separate loo!!
The hotels virtually in the middle of nowhere, but this certainly did not affect our enjoyment. If you want shops etc outside the hotel this probably isn't the resort for you. The hotel does run a service to Hurghada which was an experience and Makadi Bay its self is a sort taxi ride away and has shops, pharmacy etc.
In all if you want a fantastic hotel, great food, total relaxation all accompanied by the friendliest people ever then this is the hotel for you.

| said: We have just returned from a two week stay at the Makadi Palace Hotel. What can I say? It was fabulous.
The hotel in general really resembled a Palace, particularly at night when it is all lit up. The all inclusive was fine apart from the mini bar in the rooms for which you had to pay. This was not made clear in the Airtours brochure. Also some items in the a la carte restaurants also have to be paid for e.g. if you have prawn dishes at the Thai Garden restaurant. (Only about £3 extra and worth every penny). You can eat at the a la cartes as many times as you want to, by pre-booking the day before. The buffet restaurants for breakfast & lunch had a good selection of food and you will not go hungry.
The junior suite rooms are very spacious and kept spotlessly clean by the housekeeping team. I have never seen such clean hand basins in my life! The pool towels are brought to your room every evening ready for the next day. On my birthday a cake was put in our room when we got back that evening - a very nice touch.
All the hotel staff were superb. Very polite, friendly and hardworking. The waiters by the pool bring you drinks all day long. We made sure we tipped them well. We never had to fight for a sunbed by the pool.
The animation team try very hard but the evening entertainment was a little lacking - not what you get in the Caribbean, but we didn't care too much. There are activities during the day but it was so hot (at least 39 in the shade) not many people participated.
The location of the hotel is wonderful. Right on the edge of the desert and the beach. Plenty of sunbeds & umbrellas on the beach. You will definitely need sea shoes to access the sea. The coral is lethal. The snorkeling was amazing.
Take a bread roll from breakfast and you can hand feed the fish. So many different kinds to see. There are a few areas of the hotel that are not quite finished - a couple of restaurants and some little shops on the beach.
Would I visit this hotel again - you bet I would, but probably when it is not quite as hot. We didn't see a cloud for fourteen days. I can't wait to return.

the pool was absolutely freezing, but very clean. the sea was so hard to cool down in as you had to walk sometimes 150 metres to get deeper than your knees, and in the process get really cut up by the coral.
Would definatley go back to this hotel ,but maybe when the weathers warmed up the pool a bit more!

There are several swimming pools, 5 restaurants, 2 kids pools, 7 tennis courts, one kids club, 2 clubs, and life entertainment, day and night, by an external foreign company.
Arabic and (sometimes) English and German spoken. The hotel has 1400 staff and can accommodate around 2000 people.

| said: The Makadi Palace shares it's facilities with the Grand Makadi (and vice-versa). This means you have a choice of over half a dozen pools, a dozen restaurants and many bars.
The rooms were spacious and very clean, the only let down was the finish - the hotel is new and it looks like the builders were rushed! AI meant all soft drinks and locally produced alcohol included, the local beer and wine was perfectly drinkable. Non-alcoholic cocktails for kids.
The restaurants were all good, worse was the seafood restaurant in the Grand, nothing particularly wrong with it just not as good as the others. Best buffet restaurant we found was Al Fresco, oriental theme.
The pool area was excellent, lots of sunbeds available any time of day, frequent waiter service. Several pools, very clean but exceptionally cold! Around the pool area there were a couple of bars/restaurants for lunch, we found the best was Rendevous where they had a daily barbeque, pancakes and ice-creams.
We avoided organised entertainment but found the piano bar, Stan Getz to be very good, relaxed atmosphere with good piano player.
Hotel staff were all excellent, we would definitely go back.

While we were staying in the hotel there was construction work onsite not far from the rooms and I must say how impressed I was that I didn’t even notice they were there! Had it not been for the staff apologising about the work being done I truly wouldn’t have noticed!!
The food was of a very high standard and all restaurants were brilliant. The high light of our holiday was the animation team!! The team that worked there during August 05 were so polite and friendly they truly made our holiday!
I am looking to return to the hotel again this year only saddened by the thought that the animation team has changed, but I am sure as with the high standards of all the staff the new team will be the same!.

| said: The hotel isn't quite finished and there is still some building work going on during the day.
The Hotel itself is spotlessly clean. Although the design and planning of the hotel is such that it takes a few days to work out where your going!!! The appearance is marvelous but if there is one critisism to make it is that it is a nook and cranny layout. A map to get you around the hotel would be a great help.
It is actually joined to its sister hotel the Grand Makadi bay and it seems you can use eithers facilities (at the moment).
Food wise there are the normal buffet restaurants plus 3 a la carte (Asian, Italian and Oriental)restaurants. The food is of a high standard but can get a little repetetive if you use the same place so move around the restaurants available.
The location is in the middle of nowhere. Makadi bay is in its infancy development wise and there isn't a lot about. You are about 20 minutes away from Hurghada and there is a shuttle coach service which runs 2 hourly from 10am till midnight from the hotel to the Grand Resort hotel in Hurghada, returning again on a 2 hourly basis from 1pm till 1am. A taxi should cost around 50 Egyptian pounds either way.
The Hotel staff are excellent and do go more than the extra mile. They obviously put a lot of effort into this and it does show.
As for the entertainment the animation team are like most other teams (NAFF)so we steered well clear of them.
There was nightly entertainment at the discovery restaurant which doubled up as one of the all inclusive bars. There would be a dance act on every night, oriental, russian, african dance groups, your spinning dancer. This was filled out with a couple of resident serbian girl singers, karaoke style. The waitors and barstaff are a great bunch and are possibly more entertaining than the entertainment.
The pools are lovely and the beach is nice and sandy but you will need footwear to go into the sea as it is very rocky.
