| said: This was our first time in Crete. We thought the hotel was in a very good position and very clean. However, the first day we arrived we found we were in a basement room, with little natural light. We were
given another room a few days later..no complains there.
But the fact that ALL the entertainment was in Italian,
and very LOUD, was disappointing. The food was also
geared to the Italian taste, which is what I would
expect, as they were in the majority.
personally, the above didn't spoil out holiday, although some other brits were very disappointed.
We feel that Thompsons should have mentioned that this
was an hotel with international clientele, then we
would have been able to make up our decisions based
on that.
We found that staff , especially the bar staff, very
helpful, but would not go to this hotel again, because of the above reasons

| said: I stayed there with my husband and 3 lads (2 teenagers & a 12yr old)in August 2005.The hotel,rooms and poolside areas were kept very clean.
The location of the hotel is superb as it is a stones throw from the beach which again is also kept clean plus there is always a lifeguard on duty as the sea (because of onshore winds) can get quite rough at times and the currents are strong.
We had no real problems with the food -good variety each day. My kids aren`t the best eaters but they always found something they liked.
All the staff were brilliant and so friendly we felt we had known them all of our lives
(we still keep in touch with one of the waitresses) The only problem was the Italians!! Yes they were very loud and quite rude even to the greek staff, but I have been told that this year they wont be there! I suppose they were quite entertaining in a funny sort of way.

I have not long returned from this hotel and yes the news it right the hotel has been taken over by Italians. We were told that in 2004 they could not fill the hotel with just English and Germans so the Italian companys have said they will fill the hotel and have put on an animation team.
So everything is catered for them The muisc starts from about 10am and then stops for lunch about 1pm and restarts again about 3pm till 6pm.
The music can somtimes be a bit loud so I just went to the beach 3euros for a sunbed and retured at 1.30pm for a quite lunch.
The hotel is very nice the rooms are very clean and the staff are great and if you like a drink the evening bar staff are also easy to get along with. We had some great nights with them.
The hotel is a great base and near all shops and bars and local bus stops.

| said: Hotel could do with renovation looked shabby in certain areas. All Brits seemed to be placed in basement rooms which is not acceptable, while the Italians seemed to get the good rooms.
Food was not great, breakfasts were the best, while evening meals were rubbish, only two choices.
Location of hotel was the best thing it was very central.
Certain hotel staff were very unfriendly, especially waitresses at evening meal.
Entertainment was all in Italian and very loud, as this hotel caters for Italians more than any other nationality.
Would not recommend this hotel to any one other than Italians.

| said: My wife & I visited the "Minos Mare" for the 5th time in late May 2005 & found the food, cleanliness, & staff all still 5 star.
Our big disappointment was the Manager & the entertainment programme.
Entertainment has never been a big priority with M M but it was acceptable previously. Now it is diabolical if you are anything but Italian - everything is geared to them and all in Italian.
The manager, although this was our fifth visit never spoke to us which we think is insulting on his part, although the owners were their usual friendly selves.
The staff are brilliant without exception (this excludes manager) and more than made up for our less than happy treatment from the manager and the Italian entertainment group who were ignorant to say the least.
We shall wait 2/3 years before going back as by then the Italians will have lost their enthusiasm for the area and in the main will have deserted - as they have done on Rhodesa and other places.
