| said: The Torremar is the sister complex to the Apartemntos Balansat, and they sit next to each other, you can use facilities at both.
The reception of the Balansat serves both complexes, which had us a bit worried when we arrived, but in reality it doesn't make the slightest difference.
Reception is open 24/7 and does exchange currencies, but takes a commission too.
Puerto San Miguel is only a small resort, so you are very close to the beach & shops.
There are 2 swimming pools, 1 at the Torremar and 1 at the Balansat. The Torremar pool is slightly larger, and the terrace area is a lot larger.
There were plenty of sunloungers available, and the entire area was kept very clean.
The Torremar's bar/restaurant is right next to the pool, anda has an open front, with a large awning onto the terrace, so you can choose to sit in the sun, in the shade or inside. there is a stage outside on the terrace for entertainment
The Balansat has a smaller bar/restaurant, again next to the pool, and also has a Sports Bar and indoor stage.
We had a 4 bed apartment, comprising of a double bedroom, 4 piece bathroom, and kitchen/living room that had a sofa bed & a pullout bed.
The kitchen come with small toaster, kettle, 3ring gas cooker with oven & fridge.
There's only one electrical socket in the kitchen.
Cutlery & crockery for 4, plus some kitchen knives, 2 large pans, 2 small, tin/botte opener etc.
Each room had a large pedestal fan, a door to the balcony (which had a 4 seat patio set on and a clothes horse), and a television (no meter, and a reasonable channel selection).
The apartment was very clean and in good repair, but could definitely use more storage space.
As is standard, there is a safe in teh room (in the wardrobe), this was €12 per week + €6 deposit.
The bars serve a good selection of food, ranging from breakfasts (9:30-11:00), to snacks (9:30-23:00), to main meals (12:00-16:00 and 18:30-23:00), with drinks available from 9:30-midnight.
The Sports Bar in the Balansat is indoors, and opens until 3am.
Food prices were a little higher in San Miguel as it is a small resort, but still reasonable. a Full English with OJ & Tea or Coffee was €5.60.
On average, a meal for 4, with 4 drinks & a couple of sweets came in at ~€30.
Be warned though, like almost all places aimed at the UK customers, it's a case of Chips Chips Chips :o
Soft drinks were €1.60 per glass, but most people used the Spar shops where cans were €0.55ish, and the staff weren't too bothered.
Estrella Damm was €2.60 a pint in the bar, with cocktails ranging from €4.60 to €5.80.
The food is mainly prepackaged & heated, although some items are freshly cooked, such as breakfasts & Jacket spuds etc.
the menu carries things like spag bol, lasagne, pie & chips, pork chops, steak etc - each day they have a special meal on, which occasionally comes with mash, and incldes a specific sweet.
Overall, the food was quite nice, despite not being freshly made, and was always piping hot.
Entertainment wise, this place get's a full 10/10 from us.
The entertainment is shared between the torremar and Balansat, and is currently run by a Dutch guy called David.
They run a full program of activities in the daytime, with things like volleyball, water polo, darts, pool, rifle shooting etc, and all ages are welcome to join in.
At no point was anyone told they were too old, too young, too big or too small to take part (though a 4yr old with an Air Rifle is a scary thing - almost as scary as the women were ;) ).
Every evening, they present awards to the winners of the sports activities, with diploma's and medals, followed by Bingo (€1 per ticket, free drink for a line, all the cash taken for a full house), and then a show.
5 nights a week, David puts on a show, ranging from Karaoke to Sketch Show, and he does it very well. He is an extremely friendly and funny guy.
Twice weekly they bring in a professional show - the week we were there it was a Blues Brothers/Commitments tribute and a gread double drag act.
We actually stayed at the Torremar each night for the entertainment, as we all thoroughly enjoyed it.
Other facilities include 3 pool tables at the Torremar & 2 (I think) at the Balansat, Volleyball court, Table Tennis (balansat), darts, a couple of video games & a grabber machine at each bar, and an Internet kiosk in the Balansat (€0.50 for 5mins to €2 an hour) with various other bits & bobs available on request.
The pool (we only used the Torremar one) is a decent size for the copmplex, has a seperate shallow area for toddlers etc, and the main pool starts off at ~3feet or so.
The water was clear as a bell, and the pool is closed 9pm-9am for cleaning & chemicals. Each morning, the cleaners hose down & brush the terrace & pool surrounds.
There is a laundry you can use for €4 per load. there's no drying facilities other than the clotheshorse on the balcomies, and to be honest, the clothes don't come out much cleaner :P We ended up washing everything in the bath.
Bed linen was changed once, as were towels. The bin in the room was emptied every other day.
There's a couple of minimarkets attatched to the complex and a Chinese Restaurant.
Whilst not exactly "in" the Torremar, they're worth mentioning - especially the Chinese, which will also do a takeaway. The food is all freshly cooked, and wonderfully tasty.
All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful - especially the staff in the Torremar bar - Especially Jason and Derek (Derek does a mean fryup btw), and went out of their way to make everyone's holiday enjoyable.
The Torremar seemed to have an entirely UK customer base (almost entirely families), with the Balansat getting a few French/Spanish in, so everything is aimed at that market.
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday here, and would not hesitate to return.
