| said: This was our second visit to this hotel and would return again in a few years after trying somewhere new. The hotel was vey clean as expected. Miriam our maid was fantastic, almost a magician! As the report says before this one( I think we actually met! we are the ones who went on the lazy day cruise-fantastic!) if you venture off the salads you gain weight simple!!! Oh and we did! The meals were fantatic as they were two years ago! One thing I would add though is on the 1st September all the kids junk food isle ended (so no more burgers, hot dogs pizza etc at every meal)! This did not bother us as even with a vegetarian 7 year old there was still plenty of choice and with microwaves a plenty its amazing what else you could create for the fussy eaters! I also noticed hand blenders for creating baby/toddler food!
All five entertainment staff-amazing energy xxx

| said: This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel as, when we arrived home last year, we booked again three days later. The whole of the hotel was very clean, including the dining hall, grounds, pool area and apartments. The maids came nearly every day and cleaned where possible. This was not always easy as, with two young children, the apartment was full and sometimes messy. The food was good and there was something for everyone. I recommend that anyone who goes should eat the salad because otherwise they will return looking like a bloater!!
I fully intended doing this but due to the choice, i ate as much as possible.
The location is good and in a quiet area, which we knew, and this suited us as there was enough to do on site. You could laze all day or join in the daytime activities with the entertainment staff. There is Chepas bar at the side of the complex but i would not recommend it as the owners are miserable. I wanted to see the England/Germany game so went to a Restaurant bar, run by a local, near to the beach. This was much better as the staff were very friendly and the beer was much cheaper.
The beach is small but the cove is excellent. I suggest buying a snorkel and swimming further out.
The hotel staff were excellent and very friendly. The waiters were helpful and efficient and i also had a problem with the apartment electrics. This was fixed asap and with no fuss.
The entertainment staff were very good and worked so hard throughout the day and night and made the games fun.Water polo is a must but take some bandages with you!
Although i am staying in Menorca next year i will be at a different hotel but would certainly return to this one and i would also recommend it anyone, especially families. Please dont go if you wish to get embarassingly drunk and act like a British lager lout. YOU ARE NOT WELCOME!
There is a good mix of nationalities, most people were very friendly.
Finally i met a lot of friends there, some from last year and some new. You know who you are and you are a good set. See you soon.

| said: We have just returned from 2 fantastic weeks at Mar de Menorca.
The hotel and grounds were immaculate and our room was cleaned 5 days out of 7 and each time the towels and bed linen were changed. Air conditioning would have been great but fans made the nights bearable (at an extra charge).
The food had something for everyone. It was not repetitive and so varied that I had trouble choosing what to eat and often had a second plate (reason for half a stone weight gain!!). The waiters are very keen to clear your plates away so watch out if you've not finished but put down your fork!
The staff are helpful and polite. The bar staff rarely have smiles but maybe they're not paid well! The miads are very nice. The reception staff are good too.
The entertainment is basic hotel stuff but great fun. They speak in 3 or 4 different languages whilst doing each show so it can be a bit long winded but is obviously necessary. The entertainment staff worked really hard and made us all laugh day and night. The kids absolutely loved it.
The location is very quiet and a bit remote but we were aware of this and were happy to be in a quiet, unspoilt resort. The beach/coves are small but very sweet and the water is crystal clear. There were jelly fish in the sea so beware!
The pool is huge and clean. There was always a rush for sunbeds in the morning and although you're not supposed to do it, everyone reserved beds with their towels by 8.30 each morning. They don't mind kids using inflatables and there was always plenty of room even with loads of airbeds etc.
To sum this hotel up .... it's brilliant and the first place we've been to to which we'd return. Pool, beach, staff, enetertainment, food, rooms, gardens, EVERYTHING is A1 .......
...... I have only two complaints and they are:
1) The water they offer is definitely not bottled mineral water. It is very salty and must be tap water - which is safe to drink but because of the different mineral content to our UK water it may upset your tummy. This makes it too much of a risk to drink - especially for kids - so we had to buy bottled water every day. I think that's a bit out of order when it's all inc. and we all know we should drink lots of water in the sun.
2)My other winge is that the All Inc bands are cut off your wrists when you check out at 12 noon on day of departure. We didn't leave until 4.30pm so it was a pain and considering we didn't arrive until after 7pm on our day of arrival they should have been happy to feed us until we left. Apparently your all inc runs from 12 noon on day of arrival to 12 noon on day of departure. I think this is madness as most people arrive and depart at roughly the same time, don't they??
We LOVED it,our moans are small ones and we would go back!!

| said: The Hotel is located in a lovely are of the Island, very peaceful, ideal for a getaway type holiday. The Hotel is large but you never seem to trip over anyone, always plenty of sun beds around the massive swimming pool which was always clean.
The gardens are well kept with wonderful palm trees and other vibrant coloured plants and bushes. The rooms were always kept clean and ours had a lovely view, make sure yours is not located too close to the pool unless you want to be up early next day, bit too mush noise first thing.
The food on the resort was reasonable for the price we paid, dont expect 5 Star. The drinks too were acceptable but you wont get brands you know.
The entertainment was very well done, the young team did really well and the kids loved it. The hotel staff were not very friendly, only wanted to do the basic amount of work, would not go the extra mile.
The only ones who worked there socks off were the cleaners.

Beach very small and not very clean, but water is clean and clear. Hotel staff were great.any problems sorted straight away and all were polite and friendly.
The entertainment was set up for the german holiday maker but if you have kids they will enjoy the mini disco and most of the entertainment.
Entertainment staff gave there all and were great with the kids. This hotel is great for kids but if you are going on a adults only holiday I would go elsewhere.

| said: We stayed at this complex in May and after reading some of the reviews we were going to change hotel. I am glad that we did not as we had a 1st class holiday.
The complex is out on its own but saying that they put a free bus on each day to a beach location and you could also order a packed lunch to take that was also free.
All the accommodation was apartments this was great as you also had a kitchen and they tend to be bigger than the bog standard hotel room.
The hotel mix was about 75% British and the rest German and dutch but everyone seemed to get on ok.
I am a picky eater but i found something to eat every day, lots of food and very nice.
Entertainment was a bit hit & miss but our 3 year old thought it was good.
The pool was fantastic one of the largest that i have seen, no trouble getting sunbeds, but I suppose that in high season this may change.
15 min transfer from the airport that was great, I would advise anyone to hire a car for 3 day as we did and explore the island, it cost us 85 euros for 3 days with a booster seat, 2 car hire shops on location.
Would I go again ...yes for the money we paid it was real good value.

| said: We had read the other reports on this site about this after we had booked .
We were a little dismayed but decided to go any way. I personally wish we had not.
Our initial view of the resort /hotel on arrival was mixed, a bit dated ,sort of like a British holiday camp of the 1960s. Our fears were confirmed when we entered our apartments.
For the money we had payed,it was basic and drab. We had damp coming through the ceiling and our bathroom smelt like raw sewage due to a nasty leak on the soil stack(probably) and the plastic ceiling cladding ;in the bathroom had been disturbed and not replaced properly.
The floor tiles were cracked and both the bidets had been torn out and crudeley capped off.
After a few days the smell in the bathroom had become unbearable, so we spoke to the reception staff about being moved to a different apartment, but they told us that the hotel was full. Instead they sent a cleaner who sprayed the bathroom with disinfectant ,air freshener.
The food was totally geared to the Germans; I personally think that if you go abroad; then you try the local cuisine. If I had wanted to try German cuisine then I would have booked a German holiday!
The cleaners cleaned every two to three days, but only a quick flick and a change of towels and bed linen. The floor was dirty and the crooked bathroom mirror wasn't touched!
We didn't know that it was a German resort until we had arrived, even the kids club was for the Germans!
The resort is in the middle of nowhere, with one local Spar selling overpriced items, two gift shops and one English style pub/bar. The soft drinks and even the mineral water in the water dispenser in the restaurant tasted salty as they were mixed using the hotels artificially softened water!
The best bit of the hotel was the pool but after three days I caught an ear infection from the pool, had to call a doctor,80 euros and travel to the next town 4 miles axay to get my pescription.
The hire cycles were death traps and the gym was two rowing machines and two exercise bikes and two walking step machines which were broken.
Everywhere you looked there were signs of neglect and hurried repairs.
The only bright spot was that hotel entertainment staff were good with the kids. After three days they had made friends and did the football and volley ball ect so we hardly saw them.
At meal times the kids were living on pasta, toast and ice cream as there was nothing else they liked.
The entertainment was boring and repetitive.
The staff were good ,quite friendly even if there English was a little stiff.
After two weeks I was stir crazy and couldn't wait to go home .I would never go there again.

| said: We booked this holiday on the internet last year for myself, husband and 10yr old twins (Boy & Girl) after reading the reports on Holiday Truths and we are glad we did!!
The hotel was lovely, the staff very friendly and the weather gorgeous. My children particpated in most of the activities through out the day with the entertainment team and also made full use of the free cycle hire & mini golf.
The resort is quite but plenty of opportunity to travel to Mahon the capital by bus or taxi. The only down side to this holiday was we were unable to hire a car as the 2 wks we chose happened to coincide with shut down weeks in both Spain & France so is worth checking these dates out or book car hire with holiday.
We did manage to get around quite a lot of the island on the trips we booked, our favorite was the sunset cruise & the fiesta night we went on. All in all a top holiday which we wouldn't hesitae to recommend to anyone.
In fact friends have booked this hotel for next year already. MANY MANY THANKS TO PAUL KING OUR REP WHO WAS FANTASTIC THROUGHOUT he even managed to find me some books when I ran out.

| said: Just arrived back and and would not recommend this hotel. We were there only one week. My advice this was too long DONT book for two weeks you will go insaine!!
The rooms were uncomfortable and the bathroom smelt like raw sewage. We had just 2 single beds and they expexted a 3 year old to sleep on the sofa. The sofa was not even a sofa bed. It was bits of foam. So we ended up all in two singles. We approached the manager who I may add was not helpful and rude to us. I asked if he could arrange for us to have a put up bed and he gave in and said that he would send one. We never got it!!! The plastic cups you pay a Euro for were always dirty!
The food in the resturant was never labled correct. Once they had beef and it was liver! To top the lot my son got a very bad stomach bug the journey home was a nightmare as he was so sick and this lasted a week we had to take him to hospital back in the UK.
I work in travel and I would not EVER recommend this hotel.

The apartment in Mar de Menorca was small and could have been alot better had air conditioning been fitted. The room and complex was very well kept and clean.
The swimming pool was huge and was cleaned twice a day when we were staying there, only complaint was too many children with blow up sharks and canoes. The garden around the complex were lovely, very well kept.
We were staying "All Inclusive", the food was ok although after a few days you got bored.

| said: On a whole we enjoyed our visit to this hotel. Our one bedroom apartment overlooked the pool, which was lovely. The furniture was basic but adequate. The maids came every second day and the room was thoroughly cleaned. Even though we where all-inclusive the kitchenette in the apartment was handy for storage and the fridge was great. There was plenty of wardrobe space for a family of 4 for 2 weeks worth of cloths. The Hotel offers hairdryer hire but it could become quite expensive for a week or 2 so I would recommend brining your own. There was no iron in the room. The TV in the room had BBC 1 & 2 so you always had something in English to watch.
The pool area is very nice and the staff kept it immaculate. There where no life guards by the pool so you had to keep an eye on the little ones. I did mention this to our rep and he said he would bring it up with the hotel, as a pool of this size should have 2 lifeguards. There are plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas to go round. The pool was a bit cold however the kids did not mind too much. There are some sunbeds available away from the poolside if you don’t wish to listen to kids all day. There is a self-service bar in the centre of the pool it is reached by a walkway from the poolside. This has soft drinks and water available. The pool is lit up at night and makes a beautiful centrepiece for the hotel.
The mini club was fine for younger children but my 5 year old was not interested. There is also a nursery that looked very nice. It was on 5 mornings a week there is also a small gym, tennis courts, Basketball, Football pitch, mini golf and bike hire on site. It is free to hire the bikes you only have to leave a small deposit. There was also Internet access at reception it was very reasonable at 1 euro for 15 minuets. There is an arcade on site with pool tables and games. Most of the games cost 1 euro. At 5 o’clock every evening a bouncy castle goes up. This costs 2 euros per child. This allows them to play on the bouncy castle and a trampoline until 12pm. If they want to have a rest they are issued a ticket that allows them back on without having to pay again. The hotel runs a free beach bus ever day to different beaches around the island. It leaves at 10am and returns at 3pm. You must book your seat before 7pm at reception the night before you wish to go. If you don’t do this you will not be allowed onto the bus. There was a washing machine on site that you paid at reception to use. However this was broken when I was there.
The entertainment staff, Monica, Meril, Martin and Ruud where loved by all the kids, they ran the programme during the day for both adults and kids. They also hold a mini disco at 8pm for little kids then provide the entertainment at night. The entertainment was very much geared towards the children and did become a little boring for adults however the team did try their best and all the kids had the time of their lives. The bar stops serving at 12pm and closes it doors at 12:30. Everything is in darkness by 1pm. The bar staff where friendly enough, however you did feel they where rushing you out of the door come 12:30pm.
We thought the food in the hotel was very good with plenty of choice. Breakfast became a bit boring the second week. Dinner finishes at 8:30 however at 8:10 they are starting to clear away the trays of food. There was not much choice of snacks mostly salad, cold meat, bread and cheese. Fruit, ice cream, cakes and biscuits where also available but had to be eaten in the restaurant.
The thing that really lets this hotel down is the location. There is a spar near by that opens at 9am then closes at lunchtime then is open from 3 until 9. There is also a souvenir shop and a small bar ran by an English couple that serves food. As dinner finishes at 8:30 there is nowhere to get a snack at night. So it is a good idea to stock up your fridge with goodies from the spar. The beach is a 2-minuet walk down a steep hill; the beach is small but nice. The water is amazing and I would recommend a pair of goggles, as there are lots fish to see. There is a small reasonably priced restaurant overlooking the beach. There is car hire available and I think this is a must for staying at this hotel. It is really easy to drive in Menorca, the roads are really well sign posted. This hotel is really only suited to people with children, I spoke to a few couples there without kids and they where not having that great a time.
I would return to this hotel again though this time I would probably only stay for a week.

The entertainment staff kept the children occupied throughout the day with various activities. The evening entertainment was mostly just the in house team, with one night out of 7 having bought in entertainment.
Cleanliness could not be faulted, and no food is allowed out of the restaurant which keeps the pool area and grounds free of rubbish and food. The food was fine, but lacking in variety sometimes, though plenty of it. It isn't 5 star, so don't expect 5 star food.
The snacks had to be eaten in the restaurant too, though maybe in the height of season they open the snack bar near the pool.

If you have a family room try to shove the kids into the bedroom as the sofa beds are way more comfortable!!!
The hotel food varied and was rarely hot, especially the chips and beans, food was also a little repetative.
A warning also about the "buzzard" style waiters who actually pinched my plate of bacon as i turned to butter my bread!!!
But on the whole the hotel staff were excellent, especially Nasser,Cris and Greet the entertainment staff who worked their socks off with little resources.
There was a wide range of activities to suit everyone in the day time but at night the entertainment was of a professional calabre only twice a week.
This hotel was 90% German and was difficult to get them to participate in the evening entertainment as they prefered to play cards amongst themselves whilst us few Brits made fools of ourselves on stage!!!(which was very good fun indeed)

The bar & pool areas of the hotel were very clean however although the apartments received clean linen & towels they were not cleaned enough.
The staff were pleasant & the entertainment was good if a little long winded as all game instructions were given in 4 languages.
The food was fantastic with something for everyone.
The only thing that would stop us going again would be the location. There is a very small cove down a very steep hill but to go to a bigger beach you really need to hire a car. There is a courtesy bus from the hotel which you have to pre book tickets for but it only runs once a day leaving at 10.30am & returns at 15.30 The other thing to be aware of is that the all inclusive bands you are given are cut off at 12.00 on day of departure, so if you have an evening flight you will have to pay for food & drink after this time.

The food excellent and if anything we felt spoilt for choice.
The staff friendly esp the entertainment team Nasser etc, Very surprised by other comments about catering for Germans, we found that the hotel was a mixture of Brits Italians, Spanish and Germans, although on the second week of our stay we knew it was school summer holiday time back home because of a few loud Brits arriving, and I can honestly say they bought the resort down a bit. So I recommend taking the kids but book out of school holidays for a really enjoyable holiday.
The island itself is well worth seeing and don't be worried about hiring a car the driving is not as difficult as you would think and virtually impossible to get lost.
We will definitely be looking at returning to the Mar de Menorca because we all had such a fantastic time.

This is definitely the only one with a life guard. The pool is super and the staff are very friendly and polite. The only problem was it is on all different levels so there are steps everywhere (no good for disabled my aunt has arthritis and she found the steps a big hindrance)
It is a shame this hotel is in the sticks it would be my ideal hotel where I would go back year after year if it was on the outskirts of a good town where you could walk to have a look around the shops.
We also found this hotel catered more for Germans and there was plenty of them but if you don’t mind that you should have a very good holiday as it is the safest place I have ever taken my children. I did not see my 9 year old most days!!

| said: Aparthotel, Mar de Menorca, Canutells, Menorca. This accommodation is rated 3 star and is all inclusive.
We read several dismal reports about this place , but honestly it was all very good.
The room with one bedroom and single beds (there -in), was very clean . The seperate bathroom was also well appointed ( why the bidet was removed - i do not know? ) nice hot water and plenty of pressure. The sofa beds were excellent for the children ( 10 and 12 yrs ). Towels replaced every 2 days. Safe Available at extra cost.
The pool was very large and especially clean , very popular , but sunbeds still usually avialable.
The grounds were kept nicely too.
The bar was excellent . 1 euro for the plastic glass- good enough for a nice cold 'san miguel' beer !
The main resturant was very busy at certain times. They really need better toast making machines at breakfast - you need to queue up and then wait 5 mins whilst the low powered thing slowly browns the bread !
Other food was plentiful, a little boring as many items regularily appeared each serving ! Not really complaining as you would not expect it to be like 'at home' !
Our arrival was at tea time ,and we managed to get the evening meal . We stayed 7 nights , but had to 'book out' and vacate room at midday on the last day - We were not allowed to have a 'free' meal in the restaraunt prior to our departure , we found this a liitle odd. They insisted our wristbands (indicating 'free' meals and drinks ) were removed at the midday departure !
Overall the holiday was excellent . Use of a hire car is recommended, so you can see more of this beautiful island. Yes we would love to go back there again.

| said: The hotel was as stated in the brochure quite in the middle of nowhere! Yet this particular' middle of nowhere' was beautiful with a lovely little cove.
The hotel was absolutely fantastic. Very well laid out and extememly clean. Now onto the food...what choice there was and it may have looked a little 'different' at times but tasted great! You do not go away to eat British food.
The staff were fantastic. They all spoke many, many languages and from the onset with the recepyion staff to the bar staff, to the waiters( who are very effecient at taking away dirty plates!!) onto the maids and Gemma who ran the mini club! Fantastic! Last but not by any means least were the 4 staff who worked the hardest and always with a smile for all were the Entertainment staff. Nasser, Klaas, Greet and Christina....Wow what can I say? They were the icing on the cake for us. These four not only speak many languages fluently but include everyone from youngsters to the grandparents.
We were gutted to leave what was our best holiday ever and will certainly be returning next year if not later on this year. 100% fantastic.

Without a doubt this is the perfect holiday for families and we can only speak the highest praise of the hotel and the staff.
This is from my children age 9 and 11 - the staff are the greatest the pool is fab, the food is fab we love to go back every year and that will not change.
We love the Mar de Menorca and all who work there. Can't wait to return next year, and the year after and the year after that. In fact would not go anywhere else.

| said: I had to write a review after I had read the reviews from others as I nearly cancelled my honeymoon!
This hotel was beautiful. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment - it was very clean and quite spacious, it had all the utilities you would expect to find and if you wanted to you could hire kettles etc. My only problem was no air conditioning but you could hire fans from the reception.
The pool was massive - enough room for everyone and it never felt cramped. It was very clean and I suppose because of the time of year there were plently of sun beds around. The staff did contribute to this by removing the towels.
The dining room was clean and staff were always changing table cloths and cleaning but it did get very busy in the restaurant. The food was catered for the Germans but there was Spanish food as well and minimal English food but after all, I wasn't on holiday in England so I found it quite nice for a change. There was a good selection and it was always hot.
The hotel is very secluded but it was in a lovely location and the little cove 5 minutes down the road was beautiful. There were trips available which we took advantage of and had a wonderful time as well as the daily buses to other beaches. There was also a daily bus to the capital but it got rather full so we had a taxi but it was worth visiting.
The staff were very friendly and helpful especially the reception staff. They did everything they could to make sure we enjoyed our honeymoon. Thank you.
There was entertainment every night exept Sunday. It was very basic but we enjoyed it (probably something to do with the free drinks!) We enjoyed the shows and even the bingo.
I would return to this hotel but either when we have kids or with other couples, it was nice for a honeymoon as I don't like flying and it was just what we were looking for, but we wouldn't go as a couple again as it was too quite for our usual holiday likes.

| said: We went to Mar de Menorca as it stated by First Choice that it was suitable for those wanting a quieter holiday.
This was by no means a quiet holiday. The hotel was very clean. The pool lovely.
There was a few things that we did not like. It was very isolated. Nothing around it. No village etc. There was a bus every day to take you to a different beach every day, that's if you could get on it.
The hotel staff were very nice and friendly. The food catered for Germans. The entertainment catered for Germans. Just about everything catered for Germans. We felt particularly sorry for the English children who went up onto the stage only to sing songs, yes, you guessed it, in German?
The glasses were plastic and you had to pay a deposit of €1 on each one, which is in a way a good idea, but they were scratched to bits and looked like real germ carriers.
I myself hated every minute of this holiday and spent most of the week with my head down the toilet being sick as quite a few people were. we would defiantly not recommend this hotel to couples who want a nice relaxing break.
Mealtimes were a nightmare with hundreds of kids screaming.

| said: We arrived on 24.09.04 and after reading some of the reviews, didnt expect much but we were pleasently suprised to say the least. The hotels very clean and you dont see cups lying around everywhere as you pay 1 euro deposit for the cup so as you can imagine people take their cups everywhere with them (very clever idea!). Also you can only eat the food, snacks inc, in the restarant so there are no plates and spilt food all over the place. That can be a pain at first but its not a problem. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere so hiring a car is a must even if you're like us and never hire a car. The island is gorgeous and its well worth it. Go through your rep rather than book downstairs. Son Bou beach is an absolute must! We didnt know the med could look like that and weve done all the islands. The staff were great and couldnt help you enough especially the boys at the bar. The entertainment was quite low key but the shows at night were very good especially the reps river dance. We tried to stay for another week but it worked out more expensive but we would definitly go back.

The hotel was very clean, food was great for kids and adults alike, we never had a problem with getting a sunbed by the pool.
The beach near the hotel is small but it was very safe for the children.
As for the hotel being remote, yes it is but there is free bus to a different beach each day and there was a regular bus to Mahon. All in all we had a fantastic stay and would definately go again.

Staff were very good at keeping people to the rules of not entering certain areas wearing wet swimwear.
We found the cove a lovely change and there was also a great restaurant/bar there.
Although remote, there is plenty for childen to do at the hotel.Bus to Mahon always on time. We watched a couple of shows in the evening which were good.

Yes the location is very remote and the public transport around the island is poor and it would be an advantage to hire a car. The food throughout our stay was excellent with a good variety and choice in both the restaurant and snack bar. The rooms were clean as was the whole complex. The pool is one of the best we have seen and was never over crowded. The entertainment was 'so so' but if anyone wants a relaxing family holiday we could recommend this resort.

| said: we have just returned from a fantastic holiday at the mar de menorca.
Appartment was great, big enough for the four of us and very clean. We had a ground floor room right next to the large freeform pool- would recomend it.
A good selection of food which was served from 8 in the morning until midnight-there was always something the kids would eat. They made a cake for my daughters birthday and set up a special table in restaurant.
The hotel was completely isolated but this did not bother us as we were quite happy staying put. If you wanted to go out the hotel ran a free bus service to other beaches in the area and we did go to Punta prima and Cala Bona. There is also the public bus stop right outside with the bus to the capital costing a mere 1 euro.
Staff were friendly - reception staff very good and helpful.
The entertainment was done by 3 very hardworking staff from the hotel. We also saw 4 professional shows over the two weeks.
What we really liked was the way the staff collected in the towels every morning when people tried to reserve sunbeds. Had a good laugh watching their faces when they came back. There was a large proportion of German people there aswell as English, Dutch and Belgians.
Made some great friends had a fab holiday and would definately return. Good value for money.

The food was excellent, a wide variety, hot and fresh. I preferred to eat at main meal times but my daughter (5 yrs) preferred snack time as hot dogs and hamburgers were readily available! Hotel was clean, rooms cleaned and towels changed 3 times a week and linen twice a week. Pool excellent, although no deeper than 120cms. The staff work very hard and were always pleasant. Full multi-national entertainment programme, Irataxi kept me fit with aerobics!. First Choice withdrew their kids clubs after I had booked my holiday but the hotels own 'mini-club' was excellent, Gemma is a star. Cantuells is a small resort with only the hotel and a restaurant beside the beach, but other resorts are within easy reach. The hotel runs a free bus service to a different beach every day. During our stay I only heard a few complaints, mostly about the food. Some people expect British cuisine where ever they are.

The whole complex is very family orientated and safe, our children had a wonderful time.
The food was beautiful, good variety catering for all. Minerals and ice-cream all day went down a treat with the kids. The staff were very friendly and the apartments and gardens and surrounding areas were spotless. The entertainment was good, pity it ended so early approx 11.45, bar closed at midnight but the entertainment started early evening. The cove near by was not great as a beach but our children enjoyed looking for fish with their fishing nets.
The main town of Mahon was a short journey away and was really lovely ,I would recommend a visit to the Port and the boat trips.Mar de Menorca is well worth a visit I would definitely recommend it to anybody for a holiday.

| said: We have just come back from this hotel. We had a pleasant enough holiday but wouldn't return. We found the food good and despite the other comments found it to be your typical Med buffet. Living in Germany we did find as much german food as we would have liked. The Menorcan night was really excellant with a wide range of food. My three picky children found something that they enjoyed every night. My three year old especially like the idea of on tap ice cream. I can safly say that he is all ice creamed out!!! I will agree that the entertainment on the whole was awful and came to an abrupt end at 11 pm. so if you are up for a bit of dancing be it on your own or with the children then you have lost out. The drinks were in constant supply if not a bit on the weak side if you know what I mean. I would be very careful of the water as we were a bit suspect that it was actually bottled water and decided to be better safe than sorry and bought it. There is not alot to do around the resort and believe it or not that the resort is set around the hotel, but there are local buses which are both cheap and easy to use. We hired a car for one day and went out and about and there is a lovely beach at punta Prima which is not far along the coast. As A holiday it was ok but for the money I didn't really think that we got what we paid for. but you always live and learn. One last comment I would like to make is that I must also have very unruly children as I found all the children to be well behaved and there was noone running around disrupting any thing after all they are on holiday so give us poor families a break!

We hired a car for 6 days to get out of the resort it cost us a fortune - but we are so glad we did it Menorca is a beautiful island - Cala Canutells just doesn't do it justice. Everthing away from this hotel was wonderful - I would never take my family there again !!!!

The food was a bit of a downer good for the first day or two and then repeated again and a again and again, the day they put kebabs on for a change the greedy people there went mad and ate the lot in the first 45 mins of dinner, leaving the rest of us with the chips and the pasta and the breaded somthing or other. Hot food was available from 8am to midnight, but you had to eat in the resturant and you and you had to be dressed, they also had a ruleing that you were not allowed to take food out, every one kept to this rule so there was never any food left around the pool. Finaly the enterainment was appauling, everything put on by the hotel on NO budget so not worth watching. also you had to get your dinner done quick to get out to get seats for the entertainment because there were not enough to go round. Location very pretty countryside and villas but nothing ells.To round up not bad but would not go back.

| said: This aparthotel, opened in 1990, consists of a number of accommodation blocks sited around a large admin/restaurant/bar/pool/entertainments complex.
Accommodation:
The accommodation blocks are mostly on three floors. Go for 1st floor if you can. Ground floor studio accommodation is not very private on the patios, while the 1st and 2nd floors (one & two bedroomed apartments) have very private balconies. On the 2nd floor you may regret the absence of lifts. Having said that, the standard is very good. The only complaint we could manage was the lack of BBC World on the TV (in fact, there was only one English speaking channel, which seemed to carry CNN most of the time).
Pool:
The pool has to be one of the best we’ve seen. It’s large, with plenty of shallow areas where kids can play easily. The hotel’s stated policy is that sun beds may not be reserved, and that towels will be removed. Unfortunately, we saw this done only once, but there’s plenty of room so it wasn’t really a problem (the biggest offenders were several English families).
Bars:
There’s a self-service pool bar for soft drinks only, which works very well. The main bar, looking onto the pool, opens at 10:00. They may not serve the brands you recognise from home, but this is a fully inclusive hotel so you’re not paying any extra for drink, and it’s perfectly good. I’d advise steering clear of the ‘good’ brandy though (it’s sweet) – go for the ‘Imper’ brand. Unfortunately, the coffee is poor, being Nescafé. If you want proper coffee, pay for it at David’s bar downstairs – it’s not expensive, but it is very good.
Food:
Food is excellent. There were just one or two times when we found some food was not heated properly, but overall, we were very impressed, and enjoyed every meal. Choice and quality were much better that we had expected, and there was something for everyone. Remember that this is ‘abroad’, so not everything offered will appeal to everyone. And make sure that you stay in for the Gala nights. We were treated to a Menorquin night on our first week and a Spanish night on our second week - both were delightful. Don’t forget that the published meal closing times are the times that the food is removed from the buffet. But also remember that ‘snacks’ are available from 11:00 to midnight. We managed to turn ‘snacks’ into 3-course meals without any problem. Given that there is only one other eatery within walking distance (and you have to pay there), they don’t really have to try very hard – but they DO, and they succeed. And if ever you intend being out for lunch, you can order very decent picnics.
Entertainments:
The entertainments were fine. There were organised physical activities during the day, and good, wholesome family entertainments in the evening. This was a mixture ‘home produced’ stuff, and visiting professional entertainers. We were treated to circus acrobats, jugglers and African dancers, among others. Some was good, and the rest was very good. Those who found the entertainments poor should perhaps try Las Vegas next year.
Staff:
Some of the staff have little, if any, English, so it is difficult for them to be very communicative. But we found that if you made the effort, then they would mostly respond, and with a smile! The reception staff are all multi-lingual, slipping between Spanish, German and English with ease (and Menorquin as well, no doubt). They were as helpful and as friendly as you would wish.
Location:
Location is probably the worst feature of this resort. Canutells is at the end of the road, so getting about is not that easy. (But, there again, almost every resort on Menorca is at the end of a road.) There are four buses each way per day (not Sundays) to Mahon/Máo. These are cheap and easy, though queuing early for the 1st bus on market days is advisable (we wouldn’t recommend the market for anything other than tourist tat). There is a good bus network, and connections are available to other parts of Menorca, but they do not really allow you to spend much time at your destination. If you want to see any more of Menorca, and particularly if you want to do justice to Ciutadella (which you should), then you really need to hire a car. It cost us 140 Euros for 7 days hire of a car with air conditioning, but it had been 200 Euros the week before (high season)
Beaches:
The beach at Cauntells isn’t as poor as some have suggested. It is fairly small, and the sand is damp everywhere, and therefore hard. But it’s in a beautiful setting at the end of a gorge, and the swimming in the sheltered cove is easy. Also, the sand shelves away very gently, so it’s good for children (who will love the resident chicken families). If there ever was a ‘fridge cemetery’ here, it was cleaned away a long time ago. The nearest really good beach we found was at Cala ‘n Porter, about 10-15 minutes drive to the West. Here there is plenty of parking, sun beds & parasols, beach shops & bars, showers & toilets (both free), lovely white sand, and a stunning setting at the end of another (larger) gorge.
Conclusion:
With the large number of families staying here, there are bound to be wailing children at times. Just moan under your breath and enjoy your stay. All in all, we would recommend Mar de Menorca to anyone planning to visit this lovely island. It’s good for families and couples alike, and we would certainly consider staying there again.
(For the record, our children are old enough not to be holidaying with us.)

| said: After reading some of the reports on here I felt I had to leave one. Although we stayed here 2 years ago I think it is only right to add what I felt about this hotel.
The hotel is out of the way from any town so if you want to get about you will need a car. Although there is a small cove beach it was not long after a severe storm so the beach was a mess. The cove was rather more a fishermans base than a holiday beach to go and lay on.
The pool and hotel are so good though we didn't need to go anywhere else.
There were more Germans than Brits but they were friendly and we had quite alot of brits versus the germans games.
There where lots of things to do water polo, five aside,
volley ball, archery, shooting(air gun), darts and pool.
The evening entertainment was always your typical holiday shows but some were better than others but what do you expect Broadway style shows!
There was 2 bars the hotel all inclusive one and a private one downstairs aroun the back. The hotel one was good but did get busy later on it did shut at around 12 though but it is a family resort not 18-30 club med, otherwise good beer. The one downstairs around the back was good and run by a nice English couple good for watching the footie in resonable prices and full of Brits. The pool side bar had cold soft drinks all day long and plenty of wasps.
The food was very good and lots of choice partically good late on in the evening was hotdogs and burgers which we all loved. Lot's of choice and so many puddings if you liked that your laughing. Didn't feel rushed while eating and anyone with kids will know how long it takes to get a 3 year old to eat somthing before going and diving in the pool. You couldn't take food out of the resturant but I can't see why you would want to.
Breakfast was nearly always missed but when we did make it it was good, lunch started early so we never really bothered to be honest.
The pool is something else very big and always room even when there was water polo on. Kids Pool was good not very big but big enough, tip get a sun bed early here as these are always popular.
The staff were polite and did speak English.
There was a kids club but mine were to young for it. There was a couple of shops around the back of the hotel and a couple of car hire places.
You can get a British paper here after 12 I think it was.
If you want a beach there is a better one down the coast a bit, short taxi there and back not much a few euro's.
There was a fireworks display in the mian town Mahon when we was there that is not to be missed with lots of markets stalls and one of the best fireworks diplays I have seen.
If i didn't do so many of the sports events I would have surely put on a stone at least.
The hotel complex was a self catering resort so the apartments were kitted out to this effect, but were always clean and well looked after.
Sorry no BBC on the telly what a nightmare that must be for some people! 2 weeks without British Telly.
To sum up then a very nice family resort great place to take the kids for a relaxing holiday with plenty of activites for adults who can be bothered, otherwise sit on your sun beds let the kids run riot and get fat eating like a king.
Went to the USA last year and tried to get back to here again but First choice are asking way to much, leave it late like we did and I think we paid £350 each for two weeks would not want to pay more than £500
to be honest though.
Thanks and make your own mind up after reading all the reviews.

| said: When we booked to go to this resort in May, it was because we were given ten days to find an alternative holiday having received the dreaded "severe building work" letter relating to our first choice of holiday. Canutells was the only other all inclusive deal we could find on these dates, so it wasn't a case of moaning about something having read the brochure. It is in my view not unreasonable at all to expect decent food at an all-inclusive property and we did have a comparison to make. This place is truly dreadful and also dangerous - the food was always tepid despite complaints to the hotel and reps. Several people were ill while we were there. What makes this worse is that if you don't hire a car (we did!) you are literally marooned there - the only alternative is a fish restaurant on the harbour front. The beach is filthy and uninhabitable. Menorca itself is a beautiful island and we have stayed in Son Bou and Cala n'Bosch before. Hiring a car is a must if you are staying at the Mar de Menorca. Because there is literally nothing else to see and do in Canutells, we started to feel institutionalised after five days in the hotel and this, combined with the truly awful food and poor service from the hotel, got us down. One tip, the hotel's own brochure states it has a washing machine and tumble drier for residents' use. There is no tumble drier. This might seem a small point, but if there is the inevitable upset stomach and you need to wash clothes/towels and the weather is cold and windy as it was for us, this causes you a problem! Some of our stuff had mildew on it as we couldn't get it dried properly. In summary, I would never, ever go again to this resort.
